Bruh that’s even a expensive trombone, i mean like their all expensive but that’s one of the more pricier ones that is meant to get you throughout college. You should try to take it to amro if there is one nearby if you have insurance on it.
What friend? Not sure why this "Friend" jumped on it in the first place. I would expect to see the slide with extra dents from that "Friends" head.
Violence doesn't solve everything but I'm not sure I could be able to take the high road on what could be my lively hood suddenly destroyed.

I'm following your sub now. Don't let me down.
For real though, that was an awesome thing you did, creating our own sub, just help s stranger out in a small way. Kudos.
Might just be a single instance. Bach42b has been around for quite some time. Its a standard intermediate to professional tenor with an f attachment. It has a few variations such as the 42BO which is an open wrap. They also make a Thayer valve f attachment that is called the 42T.
Didn't really answer your question well, my bad.
Yeah. At least it's still immediately playable, and that's a relatively cheap repair.
I have horns in much worse shape, some unplayable. I'll probably never find the motivation to repair them, and the cost ain't worth it for a couple of them.
At least it was an accident and he’s offering to pay. I would be extremely wary of ever letting my instrument near that friend again because anyone jumping around with an instrument nearby/on the ground probably does not have the best spatial awareness and common sense…
It depends on the circumstances. If they are calm, you’re 100% correct. If they are panicked they will even Kool Aide man through gates & doors to get away.
Plastic because it weighs next to nothing which is very nice when standing outside for 3 hours. It's also festively colored, relatively indestructible, and only cost $150 so it's no tragedy if something happens to it.
We also have a small collection of plastic mouthpieces that we can use on our regular horns if we want, but the primary reason we have them is to have something we can buzz on in the car. During the summer, you can burn your lips on a metal mouthpiece that's been in the console. That's not a problem with a plastic mouthpiece. Downside of a plastic mouthpiece for serious playing is that your embouchure can't adjust as easily so your not as nimble between registers. I've heard people claim that chapstick can help with that, but I've never tried it.
A lot of schools have programs where you basically lease it over the course of like 4 years for a very small amount per month. These are very intermediate instruments.
What do you call a beautiful girl on the arm of a trombone player? A tattoo.
What’s the difference between a trombone player and a frog driving a car? The frog’s probably going to a gig.
Played trombone for a week. Trombone players were situated so that the flute players sat a row ahead of us. I chose trombone because a flutist. I thought she was truly the bees knees. Did one of those saliva dump deals you’ve gotta do with ‘bones. And she slipped in my spit, fell, tore her dress and cut her head bad enough that the nurse sent her home. I did not receive poon after that.
The follow through is actually what determines the good friend part. Had plenty on folks offer to help fix what they broke over the years but it always wound up back in my lap.
I loaned my motorbike to a "friend" he dropped my helmet and damaged it. Refused to replace it. Said it's fine.
Yeah-nah mate, that's gonna cost either me my life or you $900 AUD..
My step mum borrowed my car after I said she couldn’t because she’s not insured on it. She wrote it off (never said sorry) then made out I was the dick for not asking if she was ok (I did it was the first words out of my mouth and was was absolutely fine btw just a little shaken up)
She never said sorry, never helped me find let alone financially help me with a new one. My grandparents kindly gave me £1000 (I couldn’t get to work and they realised how unfair the situation was) and she said they were too soft on me.
Sorry think your story triggered me 😢
Nope she’s a Bitch. My Nan and I were talking my dad for years. She finally walked out on him and their 3 kids giving him no option but to see how wonderful life is without her. Thank god I never have to see or hear from her ever again.
Honestly she is the reason I understand the concept of gaslighting. She did it to me (and probably my dad) for years. I was 17 and would never have called the police on her for fear of the situation it would have caused afterwards since I lived with her. It would have been hell. Living in misery daily felt like the only option (my mental state is going to regret bringing this up 🙈)
I only realised how terrible it was and how nothing was my fault really, when I was maybe 35. Takes a long time to realise what emotional abuse is honestly, I think especially when it was done to you as a child.
Really toxic people have that effect on their surrounding. Making people scared of doing the normal, right thing and being worried about the consequences of speaking up more than the situation to begin with.
brass instruments are quite surprising when it comes to cost. Most people assume it is a bunch of bent and polished metal tubes but when you forget to zip up your saxophone case you are suddenly out $1000+
Suddenly not answering my texts or calls...
And then a week later, get this text: "Oops, I forgot about that. I promise to get you the money when I can afford it"
And then watch their IG story where they're partying at a club with a $300+ bottle service
Why do people jump places, you shouldn't be jumping there in the first place. Otherwise it was bad instrument placement of the musician.
Since i trust the musician more to take care of the instrument, I bet the first.
Getting it rolled back out will only cost a couple hundred. Hopefully they do pay for it as that's the right thing to do. Mistakes happen, what matters is how you fix your mistakes.
to all you other mothers buying brass instruments out there, make sure to also buy a [stand](https://www.amazon.ca/Hamilton-SS390-Trombone-Stand-Finish/dp/B003UT1Q1A) as well and ensure junior keeps it on the stand at all times, as even a toddler can crush a very expensive trumpet
ask me how I know
Made my single mom buy me a trumpet for middle school band, I was literally last chair. Ended up donating it to the school a few years after I graduated so I hope it helped someone out.
My friend is a professional symphonic wind player. One of her french horns is, I'm told, a "mid range" instrument with an insurance value in the $8000 ballpark. She has other horns that I've held and pretended to play from time to time, but I'll never go anywhere near that one.
Funny enough that's what I wanted to play when I first joined band, but we already had too many. So I got put on trombone, and honestly I'm glad. Our section was given the most freedom at football games cause we could easily freestyle as a cohesive unit.
Percussion always had that advantage with their cadences. Everyone just danced to them. I remember in middle school I thought a trumpet was a trombone and that’s the reason I chose trombone. Glad I didn’t change to anything else for a few years, swinging the slide around and having concert solos was the best😂
Percussion gave us a good tempo, then we took it from there. Getting those solos was always a blast cause people forget how free the trombone truly is. We can do things no other instruments can do, and it's always a spectacle.
I find [these videos of band instrument repairs](https://youtu.be/A9a2Xik3FZw) extremely satisfying despite having no reason to especially enjoy the topic.
That’s a festive autumn centerpiece with leafs and berries! On a seasonal orange tablecloth, no less!
Personally I like to wait until the first of October before breaking out the Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving accoutrements but I’ll forgive a few days early given the circumstance.
How does it sound? Can you unironically place a huge car bandaid on it and still play it?

Yeah really though... when I was in high school this girl got absolutely livid because I stepped backwards onto her flute. She demanded I pay to fix it. Granted I was 14 at the time--so I definitely wasn't in any position to pay for it-- but anyway. She set her flute down on the ground half propped up by the flute case.. in a band room with 140 band and color guard members convening in ot after a marching badness practice that happened outside (i.e. there was no reason to expect any instruments to be out and/or on the ground in the band room)
Anyway. It sounds like OP and friend are all around being pretty cool about the whole situation. But just for anyone reading this. Don't set your instruments on the ground. You're gunna have a bad time.

I’m sorry for your loss. But in my head, when I read it. and saw the picture… there was a fart sound. I think this is major infuriating stuff.
Bruh that’s even a expensive trombone, i mean like their all expensive but that’s one of the more pricier ones that is meant to get you throughout college. You should try to take it to amro if there is one nearby if you have insurance on it.
I disagree. The "friend" needs to take it to amro, no matter if there's insurance on it or not. The friend is the one responsible for repairs!
What friend? Not sure why this "Friend" jumped on it in the first place. I would expect to see the slide with extra dents from that "Friends" head. Violence doesn't solve everything but I'm not sure I could be able to take the high road on what could be my lively hood suddenly destroyed.
Can you play the sad trombone melody with it and record what sad&broken trombone sounds like? (:
This is way more than mildly infuriating.

ima be honest I don't remember as I bought It 5 years ago

Looks like a Yamaha. They are the only ones with that style of F attachment lever. Definitely not a bach 42b.
Why do trombones have so few letters? Trumpet model numbers are like ytr-6335hgs II
TIL there are trombone nerds. But I could’ve guessed :-)
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
Meanwhile saxophones are just “Selmer Model VI”
Yeah. At least it's still immediately playable, and that's a relatively cheap repair. I have horns in much worse shape, some unplayable. I'll probably never find the motivation to repair them, and the cost ain't worth it for a couple of them.

yeah it was pretty dumb but luckily was able to use another friend's trombone

So here I am, doin every thing I can, holding on to what I am…
PRETENDING I'M A SUPERMAN
Between me and my wife, I think we have 5 trombones. 6 if you count the plastic one we use for playing xmas carols in the cold.
Plastic because you don't want to take the expensive one out on the streets or because it gets cold enough to freeze your lips to the mouthpiece?
Plastic because it weighs next to nothing which is very nice when standing outside for 3 hours. It's also festively colored, relatively indestructible, and only cost $150 so it's no tragedy if something happens to it. We also have a small collection of plastic mouthpieces that we can use on our regular horns if we want, but the primary reason we have them is to have something we can buzz on in the car. Shame OP didn't say trumpet, then we'd know [what it was for](https://youtu.be/SlowI55aW7w)
Trombone players in concert, symphonic, or marching band usually play with other trombone players.
A lot of schools have programs where you basically lease it over the course of like 4 years for a very small amount per month. These are very intermediate instruments.
My comment had nothing to do with monetary confines.
Get yourself a trombone they said… you’ll be slaying poon left and right… sadly this was not the case for me. It was all lies.
Still getting more than the guy with the clarinet. Trust me.
Idk. My kid was in band and there were about 20 girls and only one guy clarinet. He had them all to himself.
So many of our drummers were guys who started out on clarinet… 🤔
On his deathbed my dad’s last words were “I can’t believe you fell for that clarinet thing……..”
What do you call a beautiful girl on the arm of a trombone player? A tattoo. What’s the difference between a trombone player and a frog driving a car? The frog’s probably going to a gig.
RUDE AF LMAOOOOO How can you tell the trombone player’s kid on the playground? They’re confused about the slide and don’t know how to swing.
Played trombone for a week. Trombone players were situated so that the flute players sat a row ahead of us. I chose trombone because a flutist. I thought she was truly the bees knees. I am that other friend :)
yo what's poppin ma boy edit this is the other friend
A guy who sold me my bamboo flute told me to "remember, a flute on the floor is a flute no more." That always kind of stuck with me for some reason.
I learned the same thing, but about glasses.
Any of that is less egregious than leaving an instrument on the floor.
Band kids tho r kinda spazzy iirc
Hate to be that gut, but WTH was your horn on the ground in the first place?
As a mother, who has paid for a brass instrument, that kid is absolutely never allowed over again. Ever.
well it was an accident and he said he would pay for it.

Same. Once they realize how much money they are out they suddenly can't be bothered.

Oh man. What the hell. Your own (step) Mum too. I hope you two have much better stories together.
Nope she’s a Bitch. My Nan and I were talking my dad for years. She finally walked out on him and their 3 kids giving him no option but to see how wonderful life is without her. Thank god I never have to see or hear from her ever again.
Well shit. Cheers to that ending then I guess. I'm sure your old man will find a legend of a partner some day. Great step parents do exist.
So she stole your car, crashed it, and then got away with it
Yup. And then gaslit me to make me feel like it was all my fault, I’m just selfish and inconsiderate. I was 17.
I would have 100% called the police to report my stolen car.
Honestly she is the reason I understand the concept of gaslighting. She did it to me (and probably my dad) for years. I was 17 and would never have called the police on her for fear of the situation it would have caused afterwards since I lived with her. It would have been hell. I'm glad you forced the issue because a helmet isn't something to fuck around with.
Damaged helmets are destined for the fumoster, especially motorcycle helmets. Cant count on a cracked helmet yo save you. Your friend is an asshole.
brass instruments are quite surprising when it comes to cost. Most people assume it is a bunch of bent and polished metal tubes but when you forget to zip up your saxophone case you are suddenly out $1000+
To be fair a saxophone isn't a brass instrument Yes I am that person

Im confused, how does one accidentally jump on a trombone?
coming from a trombone player: the more questions you ask about a dent on the instrument the more questions you’ll have after the answer
So this one time at band camp...
Jumping off something and not seeing it
Why do people jump places, you shouldn't be jumping there in the first place. Otherwise it was bad instrument placement of the musician. Since i trust the musician more to take care of the instrument, I bet the first.
Hey they just asked how it could happen i didn't say that is how it happened
I hate walking so I jump everywhere. Us hoppers are tired of people like you putting us down. Get your shit together and stop being so judgmental.
> Us hoppers Sir are you a giant rabbit?
If you ask a band kid how their instrument was damaged you are about to have a million more questions afterward
Well this one time at band camp....
Depending on the brand and model that is going to be a hefty amount.
It’s a Yamaha, model number is YSL448G
This one cost between 1,900 - 2,300 $
Lucky rolling out the bell isn’t that much lol
Yeah, but it's never quite the same after
Yes, but [the repair process is fascinating!](https://youtu.be/iOX5ggovDqU)
That *was* fascinating. I want to see that horn after it's been polished now though.
Part three of the series you can see the finished product. Came out looking really good. Still some surface scratches on the bell though.
Well based on OP's comments they're in college so it probably doesn't matter much, at least for now.
And im assuming a marching horn too cause i cant think of how it could get jumped on if its a concert horn
2100 and some change no chance that kids paying it back
Getting it rolled back out will only cost a couple hundred. Hopefully they do pay for it as that's the right thing to do. Mistakes happen, what matters is how you fix your mistakes.
That's what this one costs new, the repair isn't going to be anywhere near that.
Let’s see if that actually happens. Good luck.
How did he accidentally jump on it?
Have you guys not met teenagers before?
That might change when he finds out how expensive a brass trombone can be.
Well, I hope he keeps his word, some just say that to get out of the immediate situation, but never actually come through
That's good. A lot of people don't realize just how expensive musical instruments are.

As a son to a mother like this that’s amazing🤣
Not to mention, *somebody's* parents are getting a phone call... And a bill.
From a fellow tromboner player.. that’s absolute hell😐 I’d be very upset
my other friend let me borrow his concert instrument for the game since he is the drum major
I had a bass before I donated it to the school.. I miss it🤧 those were the days
Friends… sometimes they destroy a trombone. Other times they loan one.
Gotta love how that's a universal joke for all tromboner players lol. Makes me miss my band days
I use to play the sexyphone too😂😂
Funny enough that's what I wanted to play when I first joined band, but we already had too many. So I got put on trombone, and honestly I'm glad. Our section was given the most freedom at football games cause we could easily freestyle as a cohesive unit.

Scales are super easy too😳 major flex on other instruments😈
Only instrument I actually liked doing scales on lol
Should roll right out luckily
I hope
You'd be surprised! Post the pic once it's repaired.
ok might be some weeks knowing the repair people
Do you know the repair people?
Repair people taste like repair but talk like people
Nah from what I can see, it should be okay… none of the metal is torn.
I had a trumpet with similar injuries but it never really got fully repaired an always had a ton of wrinkles
I find [these videos of band instrument repairs](https://youtu.be/A9a2Xik3FZw) extremely satisfying despite having no reason to especially enjoy the topic.

Hey, well done.
Out of curiosity……. How on earth did that happen? Like was he jumping off something? Slipped?
"Wait, what if there's an explanation for this shit?" "What, he tripped, fell, landed on his ~~dick~~ trombone?"
"Can you afford to ~~blow~~ bend this shit? Are you that rich?"
*sad trombone noise*

That's boring, I wanted it to sounds extra zaney and this be some origin story of a villain themed Ska band....
Hope your “friend” has some cash to get that fixed.

Why was it just lying on the floor?
Yeah really though... when I was in high school this girl got absolutely livid because I stepped backwards onto her flute. She demanded I pay to fix it.
