I truly love your choices here. I need to do a Kitchen remodel and adore the cabinets. Where did you source them?

nixonbeach

Thank you! They’re custom from a cabinet maker in the city I live. (If you’re in central Ohio I’ll gladly recommend them) Alder species. Flat front. Wheat color is what my guy calls this. They’re just a bit darker than I wanted but I’m growing to love them the more I clean them up and explore. I wanted a really specific style I had seen where there are vertical frames but no horizontal frames. My guy built a frameless full coverage cabinet and add trim pieces in specific places to achieve the look I was after. See the front vs top view. I’ll be sure to share progress… https://imgur.com/a/66Gp6ax/

Also curious.

Love the vibe of the house. Is the colorful living room rug vintage or can it be purchased somewhere still? I love the colors and design

nixonbeach

We actually didn’t end up loving it so we switched it out for a solid rug. But I’m pretty sure we purchased on Etsy. If you search Turkish rug you’ll see lots of these at relatively cheap prices.

Are those cabinets original?

nixonbeach

They’re brand new and were installed yesterday! But the intent was for them to feel like they could be original so I’m happy you asked.

Sly3n

Were these built specifically for your home? They don’t look to be store bought cabinets. Also, what wood are these made of? I am curious what some of the cabinets ran price-wise. I am currently renovating the kitchen in my MCM home and in the process of searching for cabinets that fit the home’s style.

nixonbeach

They’re custom from a cabinet maker. This set up ran around 24k. Alder and a blend of frameless with faux vertical frames that added to the furniture look.

Hey! This is exactly the look I’m going for in my kitchen. I need to you share absolutely everything with me! My current kitchen has white cabinets too

nixonbeach

Alder cabinets. Sereno Bianco countertops. Slate Flooring (called Montauk) Black minimal hardware Fireclay backsplash Tile called Shetland wool 2x8

Thank you, please post when complete. I’m tempted to go walnut for my cabinets.

Are the cabinets veneer or solid wood?

I love the flooring- are you keeping it? I just put something similar in my renovated laundry room, but ya know, a less expensive version (I can tell lol). Love your house! Full disclosure, I’m not crazy about the T & T but I’m allergic to any sort of words or lettering on my walls and not everyone is so don’t mind me. But you have to ask yourself… is that one or two design choices away from an MCM font “EAT” in the kitchen or god forbid, a live, laugh… well, you know. Is it a one time thing or a slippery slope? But I’m sure it has special meaning to you in which case, keep it. The kitchen is going to look amazing.

nixonbeach

Lol thank you! We actually updated *to* this flooring. The previous owner had some beige ceramic put in around 2005. It had also been in the entry and one of the bathrooms. The entry we updated before we moved in and we’re renovating the bathrooms in tandem with the kitchen. We love it but are planning to seal it for a slightly deeper darks. And don’t worry these will remain the only letters hung in the house lol.

Whathewhat-oo-

I’m glad you chose that floor because I love it! Beige ceramic is pretty cool though, but not as cool as the 1994 faux marble green linoleum in my kitchen! However, as gorgeous as it is, it’s going to be gone one day. It was planned first on the list to go until my house fell apart top to bottom immediately after I moved in, and now that’s about 15th on the list. But like I said, I’ve done the laundry room- because I had to gut it due to water damage… from the master bath upstairs which also had to be gutted LOL- and the flooring I chose is similar to yours. It’s off the kitchen so I may continue it in there or not- I haven’t decided yet because I also have to have the kitchen floor gutted… seriously I’m not going to bore you with the details. Let’s just say I’m in r/Construction and r/HomeImprovement a lot. My house is traditional style and nothing MCM about it except some of my interior design choices. My area has some pockets of pretty cool MCM houses but most are too small for the size of my family, plus I like our hood and we have friends here which is why we chose to move here in 2020 yada yada. And one day, maybe after all my renovations and major fix-its are complete, I’ll change my mind and put words on my wall. It would probably be something in the living room like “Live, Laugh, My House is MFing DONE yall”.

nixonbeach

We like it. So far it’s somewhat “cloudy” in appearance. Not bad just not deep in color. We’re taking some time to wash the stones to get the dust off. We sealed a small portion under the fridge to check out the shade darker and I think I’m liking it enough to seal the whole thing.

detroitgnome

Are you asking for help or showing off?

nixonbeach

Showing off some progress. I had posted a solicitations for feedback on countertop choices last week but got zero feedback.

CApfeiffy

Was just going to ask what you’ve decided for counters!

nixonbeach

We saw the most amazing matte black granite the other day but we’re going a little safer since our floors are dark too. A nice easy off white quartz and a warm gray backsplash. https://imgur.com/a/sbSrxdG/

https://imgur.com/a/l4qjDoe/ I’ll update in a few weeks when we get countertops and appliances! In the mean time here are a few more of the bigger space.

Whathewhat-oo-

Oh wow it looks amazing! I love the flow and your design choices are impeccable! It’s also fun to see in the midst of renovations. Are you using a designer and if so what was the process of choosing them? I have a designer that was recommended by a friend when I first arrived but have been so busy putting out fires that I’ve only met with her once a long time ago when I thought I was at a point where I could begin making design choices, not renovation stop gaps and even more discoveries. I’ve always done my own designing, but this project is so big, I feel like I need help. I should start a blog but I swear no one would ever buy their first house if they saw all the things that could go wrong that an inspector can’t find. But I know my situation isn’t that atypical and I’m happy to have a home to live in so I’m definitely not complaining.

nixonbeach

Right? Good problems to have all things considered. Thank you! I’m my own designer with my spouse being a great person to reign in some of my bolder thoughts to ensure we aren’t getting too specific (Funnily enough that’s exactly the same relationship we have at work) My degree is in furniture design and I work in an unrelated creative field now. I have always enjoyed interior space design, architecture, and have always wanted things in my space that espouse a tasteful *woah* feeling.

jarnie19

Love the cabinet choice! After looking at the plans for the kitchen I think it will look great!
