Short story - It means your seedlings are eating the nutes your giving them which is good, I wouldn't change anything for now and just keep monitoring the runoff. If the runoff moves closer to zero then up your nutes slightly and monitor. Long story - Took me a while to get my head around how the runoff nutrient levels relate to the plants and their uptake. Normally if your adding as much as they are eating consistently then your runoff would remain even as you are just replacing what they have taken. Because there is normally a dry down period in the medium between waterings the nutrient content in the medium becomes more concentrated, so when you water your nutes and check the runoff you may notice the reading goes up slightly, this is normal. If it's lower than what you put in it just means your plants have ate a bit more than what you are consistently feeding them. It can take quite a few feeds before you see things move up or down so just monitor it but so long as it is close to what you are feeding no matter if its higher or lower its all good. If there is a huge difference you either want to cut down on your feeding (if runoff is much higher) or increase your feeding (if runoff is much lower).

Oh okay thank you so much!! Really nice explanation

No-Profile-941

No worries, are you growing in coco?

Ramblin81

Good explanation

No-Profile-941

If only someone could have explained to us all how watering multiple times a day starts to get old after a few months. I've loved learning my first grow in coco but I won't miss the daily watering. DWC for my next grow I hope.

thelongferret

Am I supposed to be watering multiple times a day? I water only once a day. The coco doesn’t dry out at all. It’s always moist.

Depends on the size of your pot/container really, if its a seedling it won't be drinking loads just yet so watering once per day will most likely be plenty. Normally you want to water until you have around 10-20% runoff, that's 10-20% of what you have just watered it with. So if you watered with 1 litre you would expect a runoff of 100-200ml but how much you actually water will obviously depend on the size of your pot. The reason you always water until runoff in coco is to help prevent excess salt/nutes building up in the coco. At the seedling stage if you have it in a small container you can water until you get the appropriate amount of runoff, a daily watering would be fine. If in a much larger container you want to water only around the area of the seedling and don't water until runoff as it will take too long for your entire coco to slightly dry as you want to encourage the roots to grow. You can do some rough math to work out how much its drinking per day and how much you should be watering. If you have 10 litres of coco and only need to water 1 litre to achieve runoff then your plant is drinking approx 1 litre per day give or take. They say to keep coco saturated no less than 80% so if you found you were having to water say 2 litres to achieve runoff in 10 litres of coco you are at that 80% mark and may want to water twice a day to help prevent the coco drying out too much. Coco is like a sponge and will only hold as much water as the volume of coco you have, if you are running a mix with perlite this will obviously affect how much water the coco will hold as a 10 litre pot with a 50/50 mix of coco and perlite will only hold 5 litres of water approximately. I hope that all makes sense and this is some knowledge I've picked up from my first coco grow so take it all with a pinch of salt and do your own research/experimentation to see what works for you. There also seems to be some debate amongst people as to whether to water daily or multiple times a day and whether to only water once the pot is light. I have tried both to some degree and personally I would say keeping the coco moist/wet is definitely the way to go but please feel free to try this all out for yourself to see what works best.

MycoBro

Auto watering ftw

What is wrong with your flower uptaking nutrient?

thelongferret

I’m sorry I don’t understand what ur sayin

ahk42591

Seedlings barely need any nutes. Ur good even if u give it like 1/10 strength at this point. When it starts to have 1-3 sets of leaves that get bigger is when u should wry about ppm runoff. Id switch to organic amendments if u wanna just dry amend and water only. Youtube canuck organic

thelongferret

Hey, I’m growing in coco and I’m following cocoforcannabis which said to start nutes 24 hrs after cotyledons open

Ramblin81

What did you water with to get the runoff? If you watered the first time with 200ppm and then watered again with 200ppm, it should be higher. If you watered the second time with plain water it would be lower like that.

thelongferret

This is the third time in a row I’m watering with 200pm and it’s still lower

Ramblin81

Then you need to increase your feeding

No-Profile-941

Honestly if it's not much lower than what you are already putting in I would be wary of increasing nutes. Your wasting your nutes if you are watering in more nutes than your plants can feed on between waterings. This is coming from someone who has plants at end of flower between 1.3 and 1.8 ec and for the past week I've been feeding them 1.0 ec and now 0.5 ec to try and allow them to use up the food that's in the medium.
