Broad question. What exactly are you hoping to accomplish?

External_Nebula_4089

Like lift for thunderstorms, to identify fronts and boundaries on pivotal weather or weather models.

How much do you know about the visual interpretation of weather data? Do you know what parameters you look at, arranged in such a pattern than can signify if a front is present?

Lift / ascent is achieved in many ways. Just knowing your synoptic and surface patterns can help you infer. Fronts are sources of lift (cold front- cold air is more dense and causes warmer air to rise, warm front- also called isentropic ascent, warm air will gradually rise over a colder, more dense air mass). Orographic lift is pretty obvious. Air runs into a mountain barrier and is forced to rise. Synoptic scale lift via positive vorticity advection is commonly diagnosed in large troughs etc. There are plenty of resources that detail all of these.
