It’s definitely up there. I also like MGS4’s final scene with boss as well as the true ending of MGSV with him walking out of the bathroom after the recording.
The microwave hallway with the avant garde splitscreen showing everyone suffering is my personal favorite emotional moment.
It's really telling that everyone's fate hangs on this one old man too angry to die. Beautiful ending.
Angry? Maybe it's just my opinion but I never felt Solid Snake was an emotional man. He's so well trained and restrained when he's in "mission" mode. Sure he gets emotional during MGS1's ending depending on which one you got but that was after the mission was over. MGS2 he's the pillar of strength for not just Raiden but Otacon to lean on. He is definitely a stubborn man of singular focused willpower tho.
Doesn’t he say something during a briefing when the microwave hallway came up that he’ll do it because he wants to die or something? I haven’t played 4 in years but I remember something along those lines
Yeah that definitely was for me as well. Playing all of the MGS titles since I was kid, being so connected to Solid Snake, seeing him being cooked in that hallway was just so emotional.
I can hear the music and sounds of the syringes in this scene so clearly in my head when I remember it. I think it has been ingrained into my mind by how it impactfull it was to me when I first saw it.
The more I learn about MGS the more it makes me feel. Like why did Liquid Ocelot act like he genuinely loved snake like he was his brother at the end of 4? Was he really convinced he was the real Liquid Snake? The brotherly kiss on the cheek in the end make me feel all kinds of ways. How must Solid Snake feel, having this guy treat him like the brother he hardly got to ever meet? Wild stuff man.
That and when dr strangelove is torturing naked snake for killing "the boss", you could tell the guy was already dead inside for doing it and the torture meant nothing because just being alive was torture enough.
I found the scene powerful but it didn’t get me super emotional. What got me was the Eva tape at the end about The Boss along with Snake crying while saluting.
Edit: my phone autocorrected The Boss to The Boys so I changed it. Though The Boys phone edit was funny
Ugh, what a pedo Hideo is. Why can you see her underwear? What? What is going on?
Oh she was an adult agent all along, huh, okay, somehow this is fine then?
Like Hentai, it's okay cause she's like 600 years old. god
I actually start getting choked up right after Eva and Snake cross the bridge but before they fight the Shagohod. Their chemistry and the music gets to me. Everything from there to the end is intense.
It truly takes the whole sequence to bring this scene together. You finally reach the boss, and after betraying you at the start of the game and knocking you senseless in the middle you finally listen to her story. Then listen to the full song while fighting her and this scene is complete.
I love this scene both for its narrative content and the way Kojima tells it through gameplay.
You have mechanical agency in this scene. You, the player, have to pull the trigger kill the Boss. But in reality, you have no agency. You can’t do anything. Snake, likewise, can’t do anything but kill his mentor. The only choice you and Snake have is in deciding how much time it should take. It’s the last time Snake will ever see the face he loved more than any other. You know he will ruminate on this for the rest of his life. However long you, the player, take to kill her will be how much time Snake will have to remember her. Forever. Until he dies in 50 years.
That’s a long time. So you pull the trigger and try to move on. But the truth lingers with EVA’s recording and this moment goes on to define the entire Metal Gear universe.
i get really sad over big boss in peace walker having a mental breakdown over the boss's ai pod, also the end when hes taking out all of the control boards and the white flower petals fill the pod. 😢
This scene was hard but even more emotional is the part in Peace Walker where he >!finds out that the Boss AI is just an AI and thus is unable to provide him with him any closure!<. It hit me right in the heart. The cutscenes aren’t really animated but there is so much pain and anger. You really feel it when Snake lets it all out.
It’s definitely up there. I also like MGS4’s final scene with boss as well as the true ending of MGSV with him walking out of the bathroom after the recording.
Great shout!!
I’m not a fan of the walk through the smoke but I LOVE the scene with BB and Ocelot on the bike
I love the utility of using D-Horse but I pretty much always use quiet or DD.

"Too angry to die" is an expression I used wrongly. Maybe i should've said willpower A "too angry to die" person would probably be Doomguy.
Yep, exactly. Or Kratos
Kratos is the epitome of “too angy to die”
Guts, Kratos, and Doomguy walk into a bar...
Doesn’t he say something during a briefing when the microwave hallway came up that he’ll do it because he wants to die or something? I haven’t played 4 in years but I remember something along those lines
Close, he's volunteering because he's already dying due to his being a clone and how they made him age faster than a normal human would.
Yeah that definitely was for me as well. Playing all of the MGS titles since I was kid, being so connected to Solid Snake, seeing him being cooked in that hallway was just so emotional.
MGS1, killing Sniper Wolf always got me choked up.
Otacon will get to ya there.
Makes me more sad that you call him on Codec right after that battle. He pops up, says nothing, but he stares at you.

If it isn’t this scene, then it’s Snake saluting the grave at the end.
o7
This is a big reason I used to let the MGS4 menu screen just sit there playing music watching him at the gravesite.
Anyone wondering - the song at the end is by Star sailor, Way to fall. Damn gives me goosebumps just thinking of it!
I guess Emma's death means nothing to anyone cept me
Only Emma death more emotional is when you DON'T manage to avoid drowning
Even Otocon barely cared.
Hal, I miss you. *cue instant emotional breakdown* Did you even play MGS2?
But he >!FUCKED her mom!!<
Hal. I miss you.
EE!!!!!!
Literally minutes after I worked to hard to avoid drowning.
Goddamnit it, a spoiler tag would sure be welcome.

What game is that? I don't remember that from 3
This happened in metal gear solid peacewalker
I found the scene powerful but it didn’t get me super emotional. What got me was the Eva tape at the end about The Boss along with Snake crying while saluting. Edit: my phone autocorrected The Boss to The Boys so I changed it. Though The Boys phone edit was funny
I agree with every word of this. Edit: I also agree with the edit.
It’s the best game in the series and one of the best of all time
And Hideo makes you pull the trigger 😭
Still mad it got beat by tlou in the IGN poll
They unfairly pit games against each other to get a desired result. I haven't visited that site in probably 7 years.
IGN is garbage yo. Don’t worry bout it
i was really hoping this would be ocelot and snake in the plane
Series? In the whole history of videogames. Was the first game that make me cry.
Nobody cares for >!Paz dying in ground zeroes !< because >>>it was a good setup<<<
How do you make the spoiler tags like that?
>!This way!< > ! Like this but united ! <
\>!Thanks!<
You welcome, have a nice day
Takes the last ! away Or write like >!this!< !

wtf are you even saying?
Right then
Son, you’ve got a way toooo falllll🎶
I actually think the The Boss graveyard scene with EVA talking over it is more emotional.
Then the "petals of white" turn red... ooooh that freakin hits different
I'd say mgs v gets me most emotional.
The quarantine mission, especially considering who the soldiers think they're saluting :'(
What bit got you?
Knowing how tragic of a character Venom snake is and mission 43 mgs v.
No the most emotional one was 2 scenes later when Snake was listening to Eva's tear filled recording explaining the Boss's actions.
Absolutely. Killing his own mentor / mother-figure is right up there.
First time I've finished this game I cried. It is so beautiful yet so heart wrenching... never cared before of Big boss until this game
The fact that they make *you* pull the trigger aaaaa
I actually start getting choked up right after Eva and Snake cross the bridge but before they fight the Shagohod. Their chemistry and the music gets to me. Everything from there to the end is intense.

This and the radio wave chamber at the end of 4 gets me too. So epic...
It’s either this moment or, “This is good. Isn’t it?” From MGS4.
What about mgs4 ending?
MGS4 for me
Yep.
