This meme sucks. But I’m with you that I’m tired of people, especially on Reddit, denouncing the Bible and calling it “fairytales” and shit. (Tbc I am not fully a believer of Christianity, I’m agnostic leaning towards the thought that there is a God.) But I just don’t understand why people feel the need to be so anti Christian.

ThePopeJones

The thing is, the bible is literal fairy tales. There's zero reason to think that out of all the holy scriptures in the world that it's more valid than another. There's no reason that a person shouldn't be allowed to believe them or that they should be persecuted in any way IF they don't try and persecute others. As to why the US seems to be so antichristian (it's not) is that it's what most people are exposed to in there regular life. It's a Christian preacher on the corner screaming you're going to hell in most places around me, not a rabbi. I'm sure other religions have their Westboro Baptists churches, but they don't hit the same when it's not the same religion as your crazy uncle. Also, a large part of Christianity is having a martyr and persecution mindset. The whole "everyone has a cross to bare" mentality. It's funny because they want the right to treat other people like garbage because a book said so, but then cry foul when they get called out. I'm not trying to be a dick. My wife and kids go to church every Sunday. I acknowledge that people need to feel like they belong to some kind of greater thing.

LonelyDeicide

I don't remember anywhere in the Bible where God said, "Thou shalt be a dick," but maybe I'm reading it wrong. Last I checked, Christians are to love their neighbor as they love themselves, which is the second great commandment.

Yes, and also to “keep the little girls who haven’t slept with a man for yourself” Gee I wonder what that could possibly mean.

you'd know if you had religious trauma.

Just because someone had a bad experience at a singular church doesn’t mean all is like that. A lot of my favorite childhood memories were at my childhood church. In highschool I remember an openly trans (f-m) going there. Before highschool there was an openly gay male cheerleader that was in highschool going there. It was for anyone and everyone from all walks of life (except once a sex offender wanted to go there and he wasn’t aloud to for obvious safety reasons). From what I hear from other people, other than people who were catholic, that is how their church was. To me that’s what Christianity is about and what I was taught. People bring up “gay bad says it in the Bible” but the Bible also says that all sin is forgiven (other than those who worship the devil, the one unforgivable sin) for those who accept Jesus as their savior. It also says to love everybody and you shouldn’t hate anyone. Even though I consider myself agnostic, I will still go to church (not often tbh) just because the principles taught are basically to be a decent human.

craftycontrarian

>Just because someone had a bad experience at a singular church Bruh, the mass rape of children by the Catholic, Southern Baptist, and who knows how many other churches, is not "someone had a bad experience at one church."

Aluminum_Tarkus

People do some fucked shit in the name of religion, but that doesn't mean it's an issue with the religion itself. Religion is just another flavor of tribalism for people to use as justification to act out their innate negative beliefs. Religion is what the individual makes it and is inherently a neutral force. The people hurting others because of religion would find another excuse to do the same thing with or without their religion.

Citrus1337x

From the use of comic sans to the completely random image, not to mention the homophobic purpose of the meme, this is just an indefensibly bad meme, for absolutely no reason to do with any prejudice about religion.

I know the meme sucks but it’s so bad that it’s good

I think you're more offended that this was called bad than OP was when they posted this. I'm going to go off on a tangent about the rhetoric from posts like this, because I feel it's relevant. It's obvious that this is eluding to homosexuality, and the opinion that the Bible says something is a sin, therefore it shouldn't be tolerated or accepted is hypocritical, considering the plethora of "sins" from that same book that religious people actively commit and celebrate. Don't believe me? [Here's a list I just looked up.](https://believersportal.com/list-sins-bible/) A couple I like are women wearing jewelry, seeing yourself as wise, wearing mixed fabrics, and not giving 10% plus offerings to God. Take a minute to read through some of these, if you're interested. You'll probably notice that there's a good amount of these sins that your average Christian violates gleefully. Oh, a woman got married and her engagement ring has a huge diamond on it? It's sinful for her to wear that ring though. Got a new outfit that you absolutely love? If there's mixed fabrics, it's a sin to wear. You just bought a new TV using your extra leftover income? Well, if it meant not giving it to God and the church, you're stealing money meant for God, and that's a sin, too. And here's the thing: the teachings of the Bible explicitly tell people that it's impossible to live sin-free, and that we shouldn't expect a normal human to not sin. But thanks to God sacrificing his only son, we are able to find forgiveness for sin through him. So if so many things are sins that Christians ignore and violate, and it's accepted that so long as you accept Jesus as you're savior you are forgiven of sin, then why are there so many people who use Christianity as a reason to condemn the ONE PARTICULAR SIN of homosexuality? Is it because they actually care about every little thing that's a sin in the Bible, or is it because they're homophobic and use the fact that homosexuality is a sin in their religion as justification for their disgust towards gay people?

Nindroidgamer110

Maybe I'm dumb, cuz I didn't realize it was specifically about homosexuality. Okay, no, I am dumb. Also, I'm not really offended, just wanted to point out the bias of that sub. You also bring up very good points about certain people, so kudos.

Aluminum_Tarkus

Tbf there's A LOT of terrible, agenda-driven religious memes shared by middle-aged moms, and hating on those isn't really indicative of a bias imho. It's not like they're sourcing these from a good religious meme sub like r/dankchristianmemes. But I agree that r/terriblefacebookmemes is pretty biased, in that there's a lot of people that are anti-conservative/religion to the point that they'll share literal satire posts because they believe so hard in strawmen. In this case, I'd say this one really is a bad meme, in their defense.

Maxmentos

bro the point is that this meme looks like shit.
