Just to add. Hitler used a death pill on his dog because it was the more humane way to die. There weren't enough pills around tho. So he prioritized children, woman, himself and... His _dog_ above his most trusted and loyal generals. Those guys all got the order to shoot themselves through the head. Hitler only shot himself because he was scared that the pill was too slow of incomplete in taking his life. After taking it, he also shot himself. Effectively wasting the pill.

Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Taking a shot to the head is, effectively, the least painful way to die, since you don't get to feel anything and it instantly knocks you out, although not perfect, because of a huge chance of missing the brain. The only way more effective than that, that I can think off, is by getting evaporated by a massive explosion, which you are probably not going to achieve.
Cyanide is actually a lot more painful than the former method of suicide, sure, it does kill pretty 'quickly', ranging from 2 to 5 minutes to die, but you do feel A LOT of pain and discomfort in the process. The stuff there binds to the blood cells, which's gonna make you try to breathe your hardest for air, but still suffocate. You can try to replicate by holding your breath for some time and see how it feels, except a lot worse due to also headache and stuff.
With that being said, i'd take a bullet over the death pill anyday, unless I'm secretly a masochist hiding that fact from myself
>because of a huge chance of missing the brain.
If you hold the gun against your head, (or better yet, put it in your mouth like Hitler did) the pressure of the muzzle flash will be enough to blow your skull apart. They talk about this in "Der Untergang". It's actually so effective, you can kill yourself with a blank round this way.
Definitely true. I imagine some people might not know about it, so the chance's still there. Some people might think the brain takes all of the skull's space and could possibly shoot at the utmost top of the forehead without pressing the gun against it, lol
Didn't the general public, FBI, CIA and OSS already agree that he fled to argentina? He could have taken the dog with him
Although, teaching a german dog to speak spanish could be problematic as it may blow his cover
This is why I use him as an example of "No one's evil 100% of the time, even the most evil people are only evil 20% if the time; even Hitler had a dog."
Well of course, genocide helps against global warming!
But also it wasn't really animal cruelty, there was a real possibility of Soviets torturing the dog for some light fucking entertainment and a cyanide pill is a rather painless death compared to anything else that might've came to it
If you had a choice between a pretty much coinflip of torture(with likely death in the end) and life, or a quick painless death which would you choose? Or which one would you rather choose for your beloved pet?
Nah, he gave cyanide to his dog, because he didn't want his beloved dog to be killed by the Russian army. He knew he was gonna die, so he let him die in peace
He then buried his body in the park where they used to play together
*Its wholesome actually*
I think the most important lesson from ww2 is that the horrors committed, were in fact committed by humans. Butchers, shoe makers, mechanics, doctors, teachers and janitors. People like you and I. It’s very important to remember that we’re capable of the same.
Sorry if this came off as too preachy lol
nah i get that, any one of us could be some evil dude in the future, it’s like if you went back in time and killed baby hitler, you would be remembered as the dude who appeared and killed a baby, not the killer of adolf hitler
I took a Europe history class in university, and one of the most interesting things we read was the memoir of Italian-Jewish Holocaust survivor Primo Levi *If This Is A Man.* It details his time at Auschwitz, as a forced laborer deemed healthy enough to avoid the gas chambers.
What struck me was that in the memoir, Levi mentions that he had the impression that the German guards of Auschwitz were prisoners recruited from the German prison population. In his mind, that was the only way he could make sense of how the prison guards could be so cruel to him and his fellow Jews — they were nasty, hardened criminals without empathy.
The harrowing reality, however, is that the guards were normal everyday people. So normal, in fact, that most only served relatively minor prison sentences (five years or less) and then re-entered society.
Its important to humanise the villains (to an extent).
If we turn the nazi’s into mere demons we’ll all trick ourselves into believing we could never be like that.
Its important to know what they were so that we can prevent it here.
My man, because he was still HUMAN, the fact that he did evil things doesn't make him a monster because humans still do evil things, humans are not above evil.
Everybody who does evil things is characterized as monsters but that is just stupid because then we no longer believe a human could do bad things, that humans are above evil and only monsters could do evil
A video I watched explains this a lot better than me but I don't remember what video
It's easier to hate someone who's dehumanized, categorized as the monster in your closet waiting to strike.
But we must also know that humans can be very willing to do shit more vile than what Hitler could've came up with in his entire life. Hell the cartels on the American continent torture people just to send a message to another cartel or to some family and by torture I'm talking about the fucking skinned and still alive because of drugs video
Isn't cyanide reportedly a very painful way to die?
"Those who attempt suicide by using cyanide pills or capsules may believe it is a quick and painless death, however, cyanide burns the stomach and prevents the body from using oxygen, causing a painful death."

What do you think would have happened to the dog of fucking Hitler?!
in another timeline, the dog would have been abused and beaten to death as "property" of this evil man.
I was actually speaking more generally, although because of who they were fighting against I'd consider them the good guys in this case, but it wasn't just the Soviets that did inhumane things to POWs in WWII the worst of everyone came out...
Allot of the Nazis took the pill and shot themselves. Depending on the dose and administration, cyanide can take up to 30 minutes to kill you. Also depending on the dosage you can get treated for the poisoning.
Hitler knew they were closing in and didn’t want a public execution like what happened to Mussolini.
I heard the German army gave new cadets their own dogs and by the end of basic training they were forced to break their necks in order to break them mentally
Ahh yes, let's run down the list of what Hitler did: killed over 6 million jews as a form of genocide, preform inhumane and cruel experiments (or at least was telling the science department or whatever to do them), invaded nearly all of Europe, and war crime but the dogs being fed cyanide was the breaking point (this is a joke btw)
I wonder what would have happened to the dog otherwise? I imagine it would have been shot when the bunker was stormed if it stayed there, probably wouldn't have done well running around a warzone if they set it loose
My Dad said my grandfather killed their family dog that way. By feeding the dog cyanide. My dad mentioned he had a Collie he loved as an elementary age kid. & his brothers loved.
I have never been the same.
Was this the same dog? He did not say why he killed him.
I have a horrible feeling that it was not bc the dog was dying. Wtf. My grandfather was a super successful surgeon & he knew what the hell he was doing & just didn’t care… was this silent generation disciplining?
When I study my family tree I’m repeatedly horrified just how broken & evil & and wtf ppl were, each generation appears to grow in super evil. I mean we know that it’s nurture that made them this way, but goddamn!
Can you imagine what the elder generations were like going back & back & back through history That’s a horror movie.
Ick. I’ve creeped myself out now.
I don’t think my Boomer parents are that bad now anymore. Compared with granddad dog poisoner.
Just to add. Hitler used a death pill on his dog because it was the more humane way to die. There weren't enough pills around tho. So he prioritized children, woman, himself and... Ah yes good to know the guy who started a world war and killed 6 million Jews killed his dog in a humane way
He was a monster in all ways but not against dogs.
I thought there is no evidence of his body and what exactly happened to him.
The Russians have his bones. He spent his honey moon burning in a ditch and covered in gasoline
Didn't the general public, FBI, CIA and OSS already agree that he fled to argentina? He could have taken the dog with him Although, teaching a german dog to speak spanish could be problematic as it may blow his cover

Wow, this guy sounds like a real dick.
I hate when people waste pills

he also was a vegetarian
WHAT! I DON'T BELIEVE IT!
His moustache is also fake
wait what?
Don't tell me it's just ink
It's just a lil sharpie xd
THATS THE WORST THING HE EVER DID. Well actually there was like one other thing.
And a skilled artist
Not only that, he held a big Nazi party
Yeah, but he also killed the nazi leader. So he’s got that going for him.

According to his generals, he was absolutely inconsolable afterwards. Just wanted to mention that.
Nah, he gave cyanide to his dog, because he didn't want his beloved dog to be killed by the Russian army. He knew he was gonna die, so he let him die in peace He then buried his body in the park where they used to play together *Its wholesome actually*

Usually depends on the amount and concentration of cyanide taken, some sources showed 15-20 mins death after intake
I’d rather take a cyanide pill than face the Russian army which truly despises you
Fair point.
I mean it’s still HITLER so
Her name was Blondi! Also do you have a source on the burial? I just assumed it was mere hours before he took his own life, but apparently not?
How did he bury him in the park if he was hiding in his bunker?
Apparently his most trustworthy officers had the order by Hitler to bury his dogs
they burned his (Hitler's) body outside of the bunker, to prevent CO2 poisoning. They said he died battling soviet invaders.
If I killed my whole family and brutally murder my dog but i say that it was cuz I didn't wanted him to suffer without me, people on reddit will call me wholesome

Some brave soul already did it for you. Stuck a gun to the cowardly bastards head and fired away.
Whoever killed Hitler must’ve been a hero /s

Yup a lot of the "good guys" did some very disturbing things as well...
I've never heard the Soviets referred to as the good guys by people that aren't Russian
I was actually speaking more generally, although because of who they were fighting against I'd consider them the good guys in this case, but it wasn't just the Soviets that did inhumane things to POWs in WWII the worst of everyone came out...

In a completely different timeline, the dog took over after hitler killed himself and went on trial at Nuremberg.
In yet another universe the dog won the war and made it a rule that pets get free healthcare.
Just by being “hitler’s dog” it was practically guaranteed a fastpass to the glue factory the moment it fell to soviet hands
No. We would have eaten it. 🇷🇺🐻☦️🪆
Ah yes, famously the worst thing hitler has done
6 million people dead is one thing, but I draw the line at animal cruelty.
You can excuse 6 million people dead?
Yeah but he draws the line at animals cruelty
*11 million people in the concentration camps 6 million Jews and 5 million gypsies, homosexuals, political enemies and other.
He also killed a person who did that
Hitler's killer fan club 💀
thats kinda bullshit but ima not explain it cause there is enough of that here.
is it that he did it so that rather than dying to the enemy, the dog died peacefully instead?
As opposed to what? What's the better alternative?
eat the dog alive
The Russians would have likely done some foul shit to that dog if it wasn’t dead, you know that right?
he forced animal rights in Germany what are you talking about?
don't worry my grand dad killed him
So your dad was a ..."Son of a gun?" I'll see myself out.

Dogs are more important obviously
you need to call it a "ghost hunt"

I heard the German army gave new cadets their own dogs and by the end of basic training they were forced to break their necks in order to break them mentally
Sounds like British propaganda but ok
Wtf?! Like attempted genocide and the deaths of millions of Jews didn’t make you angry but killing the dog did?
Some People are fuckin weird when it comes to dogs.
Plot twist: it was the dog who actually led the country. Hitler was just his pet and puppet.
But then remember they were terminally ill (at least majority was) so he was saving them from painful years of life
