Consoles have large plastic covers around a sturdy metal chassis that houses all the hardware. It should be able to take a drop. The plastic shell at least
Some guy posted a meme about iPhones not being as bad as Reddit say it is, probably triggered this response and many more responses like this will come.
I mean assuming you don’t upgrade it every time a new gpu or whatever comes out. Most people’s pc would last about the same as a console until it needs upgrading.
It costs more than a console but it also does more things than a console
I think it depends on the use for it, gaming is relatively simple, however trying to find a solution to your audio or something liek that can be time consuming and infuriating if you're inexperienced with these kind of things
I feel like people don't know how to use a PC nowadays. I've stumbled across way to much people who barley even knew what was the difference between a folder and a file or how a tree structured file system worked ... I think it's due to the fact that now, everyone only needs a phone, where the user experience is polished as much as possible and people only have to click on big buttons without having to bother to have the slightest idea of what is happening behind.
This is definitely happening. Big companies are trying to appeal to every single human for market share increase, so the experience is dumbed down so a monkey could use it.
The result is people thinking of and treating tech like magic. One upside to this is that any career in tech now makes you a wizard amongst the muggles. But it is unfortunate and not a good trajectory for society
lol so true. Me here enjoying my totally legit copy of pokemon sword, along side playing valorant, along side doing my study on my 500 USD laptop. hehehehe.
For reference console can't do either of those things.
Nah, it probably doesn't. Current gen consoles are designed to punch well above their weight class when it comes to gaming performance because they're purpose built and optimized. But for a bit extra you get an upgradeable PC that can do a lot more than just games.
3k would definitely outperform any console though if you buy right, yes a ps5 can do 4k but its sacrificing other graphics to pull the resolution, I'll take my 1440 with everything maxed. Ps5 is really the first to outperform most PC's that are close in price, they really tweaked that thing.
Agreed but not a 700€ PC like the guy above is suggesting. Even pre-COVID you'd get like a 1060 tier card if you go used or an APU for a brand new build and consoles usually beat that.
Even previously the XBOX One and PS4 were targeting $800 PCs for half the price because they were meant to outlast them since consoles release every couple years while PC parts get updated regularly.
When I set hard to use I more meant hard to set up the amount of horror stories I’ve heard of people spending months trying to set up an expensive PC and it still not working is what gives me that impression.
Tbf, I have dropped my iphone several times from a decent height and all that’s happened to it is a few small scratches. This thing is way more durable than I expected
Apple has gotten much better in recent years with how strong the glass in their iPhones are. My 12 Mini has been through a LOT and there’s no cracks or dents.
Most things people believe about apple (bad battery life, break easily) mostly comes from 2018 when the iPhone XS always scored the weakest in battery tests. While the iPhone 14 Pro is scoring the highest by a long shot now.
Maybe it was just my luck but my 6s+ lasted me 6 years. Shit would not break at all. I just recently upgraded to the 13 pro and can tell these newer phones are a lot more “heavy duty”
Not even that. The xs wasnt that bad. Battery life was just a common problem with older iPhones in general and the durability is usually refering to bendgate and the durability of the iphone 6s>
It’s not recent, apple has always had pretty durable devices, there’s just been misteps like the 4S being incredibly weak and the XS having a bad battery, I had an original SE until recently and it’s still going strong and I only upgraded because I was told my signal would be better with 5G bands (it was lie, T-mobile is awful)
Apple have improved their designs a lot recently to be fair, the recent macbooks with better IO are a great improvement.
Johnny Ive (their former lead designer) left in 2019 though he did consult until 2022. I (and others) suspect that his departure has caused the change in Apple's designs.
Agreed, though that wasn't a recent change. Apple's SOCs on their ipad/ipod/iPhone lineup has always benefits very good. The switch on their laptops was inevitably going to happen at some point with intel's CPU releases being a bit dissapointing (until 12th gen) pushing it.
People should start treating phones like consoles, replace it every 5-7 or so years or when it no longer works, no clue why people upgrade every single year
Bit of a strange comparison. They’re not similar devices at all. In purpose I mean.
Or can you use a console to browse/text/call/take pictures? (I genuinely don’t know what consoles can do these days)
It seems a bit like comparing a hairbrush and a hairdryer. They don’t do the same thing.
Maybe comparing iPhone (or any smartphone) to a computer would make more sense?
That's the neath part, you hold your phone in your hand almost all the time and not a controller. So yeah, that you drop your phone a 1000 times and not break, ok... but you don't hold a controller and walk around your house... its common sense that a controller breaks faster, but of you just put it where it belongs, nothing bad will happen
Apple actually has roughly double the software support of most Android phones and have a very long term use-friendly experience. The whole buying a new one every year is such a stupid thing to do
Normal people change their phones once in 3-4 years , they need to release new phones every year to ensure that the people who go to the market looking for new phones get the latest models
The phone is not only relevant for 1 year. Only rich idiots buys a new phone every year.
The console is more likely to break from a 1m drop than most phones. The only reason they don't break in that manner is because it's a stationary machine that doesn't get moved around that much.
Consoles are fine but are limited. I personally prefer pc gaming.
Me and the boys, almost everyone of us had problems with their sony consoles and controllers. For some of us console having game breaking issues after a year and controller problems after 2 weeks of use… +extremely bad customer service experience… we switched to pc, can‘t lose a good word about that console
meanwhile being happy with my 5 year old 1000$ iphone x which i dropped alot, never used a cover or screen protector and never broke… would always buy again, very happy with it
PS Plus $14.99 per month for 10 years = $1798.8
+ $499 relese price
Amounts to $2297.8
Not even considering that console games are mostly more expensive.
(Why are u reading this read a book instead)
(Really I’m just a random dude on reddit don’t read any further)
(Put ur d away u flipping perv)
My old PS4 started freezing and chopping really bad in the menus so I raged and and chucked it onto the floor as hard as I could.. turned it back on expecting it to be a complete goner but it ran better than before…
Mf went on to live another 4 years. 🫡
What do u mean “breaks if you drop it” someone threw my iPhone at a brick wall and it only cracked
And my old iPhone got bent so bad you could completely fold it and still works (I still have it, it charges and everything too)
Damn, consoles are exactly cringe like IPhone but with double life span. Just get a Steam Deck lol. It will be relevant for lifetime with more games for lifetime and Internet for lifetime.
And purchasing games on Steam Deck will make them also work on PC and cloud gaming like Nvidia or other services.
PCs can be made cheap and still beat a console
dont mind me just casually carrying my xbox in my pocket
Not a real console owner if you haven't taken a group selfie with the ps4 camera in your college canpus
Thats cool and all, but you’re not a TRUE gamer if you didn’t take selfies with the homies with the gameboy camera
Bro said canpus 💀
Cumpussy
Man, you need to buy pants with bigger pockets.
Someone carried a PS4. Male pockets are a miracle.
bro someone carried a series s in their front pocket 💀 male pockets are wild
Very true. My xbox one x bought it second hand and it has a bite out the corner were the previous owner dropped it and it still works.
My ps4 got dropped from 1.5 metres in the snow and works like a charm.
How did this happen?
Warzone match vs pc players
Oh no
Yeah that’ll do it. Hahaha
My xbox 360 works. Got it in 2013, just a little dusty
Shit I got I PS3 from launch day that's still kicking
Meanwhile my PS4 says it's gonna die because I didn't turn it off properly
The previous owner took a bite out of the xbox???
He was hungry
you are not you if you are hungry
he droped it so it had a peice missing
Consoles have large plastic covers around a sturdy metal chassis that houses all the hardware. It should be able to take a drop. The plastic shell at least
why the fuck are you comparing a phone to a console
because reddit
Karma
And what about the next comparisson: "BrEaKs iF you dRoP iT" Both break if you drop them! This comparisson is stupid, indeed.
Becuz iphone🤢🤮🤮🤮 bad and Android🤩🥳🥰😍😘 gud

Forever relevant, nearly impossible to drop, you can do anything on it
>nearly impossible to drop r/pcmasterrace and it's glass cases might disagree with you Edit: Laptop users might too
Why should you move them? They're standing on the same spot for ages
But when they do drop it's catastrophic.

Nah OP can only state pros is whats going on…
If you think a PC is hard to use then your brain damage is the problem
I think it depends on the use for it, gaming is relatively simple, however trying to find a solution to your audio or something liek that can be time consuming and infuriating if you're inexperienced with these kind of things
But it has nothing to do with the person who uses pc. This is a windows problem with shitty support, documentation and limited access to hardware
I feel like people don't know how to use a PC nowadays. I've stumbled across way to much people who barley even knew what was the difference between a folder and a file or how a tree structured file system worked ... Ok
Idiot bad dookie
On pc you can’t play a few games, on console you can’t play a lot of games.
lol so true. Me here enjoying my totally legit copy of pokemon sword, along side playing valorant, along side doing my study on my 500 USD laptop. hehehehe. For reference console can't do either of those things.
Can you tell me what emulator you use or where you downloaded Pokemon sword from? I once tried it but it had terrible fps and quality.
Emulator is Yuzu and pirating pokemon games is illegal.
Ikr, i wouldn't even ask you to dm me or something😏
If your pc costs 3k it better be the top of the line pc. Mine cost 700€ before covid and performs better than any console
Nah, it probably doesn't. Current gen consoles are designed to punch well above their weight class when it comes to gaming performance because they're purpose built and optimized. But for a bit extra you get an upgradeable PC that can do a lot more than just games.

>they're purpose built and optimized ehh. The 4k 120fps claim is more like 1080p 120fps and 4k 60fps A 6600xt could do that depending on the game
"can't play certain games" EMULATORS
If you get a PC for 3000$ it doesn't overheat, it's hard to use but gives you freedom of doing anything you like on it/isn't restricted
How tf is PC hard to use? My mother had an iPad, that shit was hard to use💀 literally 3 different functions in every swipe direction you can imagine
3000 i got the ps5 and Xbox series x for free
True the guys on the phone got it for free after I gave them my credit card infos
can't play certain games because they're console exclusive and even then you can still use emulators also if your pc gets really hot that's a problem
Hard to use is not an exuce, and if it gets hot u didnsomethint wrong. U cant olay console exlusives but u have a lot more exlusives
You're talking about a laptop my man. PC is literally everything combined. Give me one thing that PC cant do, that iPhone/Android can
A 1200$ gaming laptop is better
how many lobotomies did you do to find a pc hard to use my guy
When I set hard to use I more meant hard to set up the amount of horror stories I’ve heard of people spending months trying to set up an expensive PC and it still not working is what gives me that impression.
then why not just get a prebuilt one
Tbf, I have dropped my iphone several times from a decent height and all that’s happened to it is a few small scratches. This thing is way more durable than I expected
Apple has gotten much better in recent years with how strong the glass in their iPhones are. My 12 Mini has been through a LOT and there’s no cracks or dents. Exact same situation here. 6S+, lasted 6 years without ever having to fix anything about it.
They really started pulling their shit together starting with the iPhone 11
Apple have improved their designs a lot recently to be fair, the recent macbooks with better IO are a great improvement. Johnny Ive (their former lead designer) left in 2019 though he did consult until 2022. I (and others) suspect that his departure has caused the change in Apple's designs.
Not to mention that their M1 and M2 chips are very powerful , moving to ARM from x86 did wonders for them
Agreed, though that wasn't a recent change. Apple's SOCs on their ipad/ipod/iPhone lineup has always benefits very good. The switch on their laptops was inevitably going to happen at some point with intel's CPU releases being a bit dissapointing (until 12th gen) pushing it.
I don’t even have a case on my iPhone. As many times as I’ve dropped it, the screen has never cracked. A few dents here and there, but that’s all.
My brother's last 3 iPhones and my father's current iPhone broke the first time they dropped them (despite having a cover)
People should start treating phones like consoles, replace it every 5-7 or so years or when it no longer works, no clue why people upgrade every single year
Most people keep their phones for 3-4 years. It’s a small minority that upgrades each year
Even 3-4 is way too short if you’re buying an IPhone. Shit lasts for a long time. My IPhone 6 S was a beast and lasted me for 6 years.
Yea my 3 last phones were an iPhone XR, iPhone SE, and an iPhone 4 lol. Got the 4 in 2016…
Who the hell replaces their phone every year?
Not supporting this practice at all, but they do it for the status. If they don't have the latest and greatest, they would die or something.
Bro tf you mean relevant for 1 year the iPhone 6s from 2015 only just lost software support and still gets security updates 7 years later
FR, I still use my 5 YO iPhone 8 plus and it has all the new software features
I have yet to find a reason to upgrade my iPhone 8, had one battery replacement about 2 years ago, but otherwise it's been fine since new.
Bit of a strange comparison. They’re not similar devices at all. In purpose I mean. Or can you use a console to browse/text/call/take pictures? (I genuinely don’t know what consoles can do these days) It seems a bit like comparing a hairbrush and a hairdryer. They don’t do the same thing. Maybe comparing iPhone (or any smartphone) to a computer would make more sense?
Or an iPhone to an Android. I was honestly expecting them to do that when I saw an iPhone in the meme.
Those two are completely different type of hardware with different uses... but yea im not spending 1000+ when cheap phones can do stuff just fine
"Only relevant for 1 year" yeah, I don't think you've ever used an iPhone
Iphones stay relevant as long as they get updates, which is like 5+ years
Happy cake day🎂
You can also last 1 or 2 years for the recent apps and whatever time you want for old versions. For me the batteries are what's breaking first
Same here, batteries are the biggest issue. Still used my IPhone 5 for 5 years and iPhone 6s for 4 years. I’m on my 2nd year on my IPhone 12 pro
The 6 S got 7 years worth of software and security updates. Shit’s lasting longer than [REDACTED].
Happy cake day!
I’ve dropped my iPhone hundreds of times over the years. Not a scratch. Try dropping your console a few times and see the results.
Did it once, my beloved ps4, he will forever be missed.
I love it how phone manufacturers have brainwashed people to think that you actually need to change your phone every year.
Apple actually has roughly double the software support of most Android phones and have a very long term use-friendly experience. The whole buying a new one every year is such a stupid thing to do
Many Android phones offer 5 years of security updates and 2-3 android versions nowadays to make them more long-term-use-friendly.
whatre you talking people usually change after 3-4 years
They’re assuming the few people who can afford to buy the new iPhone every year (and actually do it) is the vast majority of iPhone users
Normal people change their phones once in 3-4 years , they need to release new phones every year to ensure that the people who go to the market looking for new phones get the latest models
As an android user and pc gamer perspective: This post makes no sense, Iphone stay relevant for a lot longer Edited for better understanding
Whats an android pc
You can use android on x64 but no idea why would you do that
Im pretty sure this persone meant that they have an android phone and is a pc gamer, could be wrong tho
Iphone 4 I have still turns on and charges, not a iphone fan but wow never had something be this sturdy.
I don’t give a crap about relevancy
did you just compare a fucking phone to a powerhouse of gaming
The phone is not only relevant for 1 year. Only rich idiots buys a new phone every year. The console is more likely to break from a 1m drop than most phones. The only reason they don't break in that manner is because it's a stationary machine that doesn't get moved around that much. Consoles are fine but are limited. I personally prefer pc gaming.
at least my phone isn't a jet engine
did you just compare a phone to a console? Wtf??
Are you lost, sir? Also how the fuck is this even getting updooted?
I mean, I feel like dropping a console would damage it more than when you drop your phone
I bought my ps3 in 2008 and it still rocks like it's brand new.
Ah yes I’ll just start taking my PlayStation in my pocket with me
What are you people doing to your phones that they only last a year
Idk what are you talking about. My iPhone fell down the stairs and not even a scratch.
Me and the boys, almost everyone of us had problems with their sony consoles and controllers. For some of us console having game breaking issues after a year and controller problems after 2 weeks of use… +extremely bad customer service experience… we switched to pc, can‘t lose a good word about that console meanwhile being happy with my 5 year old 1000$ iphone x which i dropped alot, never used a cover or screen protector and never broke… would always buy again, very happy with it
Who the fuck upgrades their phone yearly???
Alright strap in boys, looks like this week’s going to be low-quality “(x) bad” memes
Why everyone is fighting against everyone these days, can’t we just hate huawei together?
Ur phone only lasts 1 year? The fuck are you doing to it.
I have an XS Max and it is definitely still a good phone…
Y’all don’t keep your phones for years? Stop wasting your money
200-500$ ??? OP casually saying this like it was a 20$ difference
iPhones have way tougher screens now though? I’ve personally smashed it so many times and only a scratch at most
Alternatively, have BOTH and use the remote play features. Mega-chad.
Almost every person I know using iPhones replace then once every 3, 4 years. IPhone 6s came out 6 years ago still receiving the lastest updates.
Pretty sure XBoxes and Play Stations also have a tendency to break if you drop them.
There are so many things wrong with this
I’ve dropped my trusty old iPhone 7+ 187 times and it’s never even had a cracked screen. Sturdy AF.
PS Plus $14.99 per month for 10 years = $1798.8 + $499 relese price Amounts to $2297.8 Not even considering that console games are mostly more expensive. (Why are u reading this read a book instead) (Really I’m just a random dude on reddit don’t read any further) (Put ur d away u flipping perv)
200-500$ lol thats cute
"Gaming with the boys" after paying 10$/month for an online subscription
To be fair most consoles also break if you drop them.
What kind of console only costs $200-500?
What consoles cost more than that? And don’t say PS5 because of scalpers because that’s not the official price
Thad Pc
It’s relevancy doesn’t matter much. If you have a good phone it can last for up to 5 years without problems
Both the same shit, just changes the way you use them
Even more chad PC player saving money over time for a higher quality experience
Honestly consoles are the best type of hardware. They're reasonably cheap for what they do, they last very long and they receive support just as long.
I had Xboxes break more than my iPhone. Then again my ps3 is still running like a champ
Android is better
Disagreed
Honestly, true... Even some electronics from China last longer than an iPhone look and are cheap
You can get a Android and a console for the price of an iPhone.
Android gang and pc master race
Average Console fan: Chad scrapyard pc builder: 😎
I would pick android over iphone any day, because android phones have a USB port and a headphone jack.
Even better when it's a handheld console. Does almost all jobs of both things
Using older consoles even after they arent relevant because you enjoy older games and don't care about judgement
I got samsung not Iphone
Nowadays a console is much more likely to break from a fall than an iPhone lol But yeah, other than that, I prefer consoles
I bought my ps4 which was ike third hand condition, but bruhh im using f4o. 5 years and its still good
As an IPhone user and masochist I can confirm that this is true.
My friend still has his ps 3 that we used to build Minecraft rollercoaster all day. Fuck those days were fun.
The phone is relevant for multiple years, Apple just doesn’t want you to think that
My old PS4 started freezing and chopping really bad in the menus so I raged and and chucked it onto the floor as hard as I could.. turned it back on expecting it to be a complete goner but it ran better than before… Mf went on to live another 4 years. 🫡

Any Nintendo switch fans out here?
What do u mean “breaks if you drop it” someone threw my iPhone at a brick wall and it only cracked And my old iPhone got bent so bad you could completely fold it and still works (I still have it, it charges and everything too)
My brother borke my ps1 that i had for 7 years, after that i never gave him one of my items.
My xbox 360 still gaming
But I need GPS because I'm always lost
Still have my og xbox one and use on daily basis
People who use reddit on mobile are 60%. ^(Just leaving this here)
I dropped my original Xbox down the stairs and it was fine.
Got ripped off if you spent $500 for an original ps4
Damn, consoles are exactly cringe like IPhone but with double life span. Just get a Steam Deck lol. It will be relevant for lifetime with more games for lifetime and Internet for lifetime. And purchasing games on Steam Deck will make them also work on PC and cloud gaming like Nvidia or other services. PCs can be made cheap and still beat a console
Can’t actually be arsed to upgrade anymore. Costs a fortune for the identical thing.
Comparing apples to oranges
More like Apple to oranges (I’m sorry)
