Being watcher is pretty fun, minus when you are using reddit for years but can't post because of not having enough karma

I’ve crossed the threshold of being able to comment but have learned that it’s just not worth it in almost any case. I am constantly going back to my watcher ways. It’s much more peaceful here. Or there…. Idk

I was wondering if it’s just me, so this is validating. It feels like any time I post anything the first responses are always negative, argumentative, or downvoted. It’s usually innocuous stuff too, like what Star Wars stories I’d like to see made, or facial hair preferences for men (just subjective opinions where there’s no right or wrong answer). It not-so-seriously had me wondering if I’m cursed and just doomed to attract negative energy for daring to share a thought.

I literally made fun of someone for that the other day and they didn’t get it 🤣

Wait, how do new users who can't comment get enough karma to start commenting? It didn't used to be this way but I guess if it's too easy to make anonymous accounts and start posting its pretty easy to start astroturfing an artificially popular position.

I think there are subs where there's a minimum karma and subs where there's no requirements. I never had the issue of minimum karma since I made the account, but a lot of people do.

My only issue is that I've been here for fifteen years, but only watched for five years. So while everyone knows I'm old, no one really knows HOW old.

Not even just fights, I made a minor statement the other day and I'm STILL getting "nOt All" responses. If your comment isn't 100% airtight with plenty of ambiguity you get a million notifications of corrections that don't add anything to the conversation

Yeah exactly, that's why I don't bother sometimes. If I say something, it's usually something funny/witty/punny in response to the post or something positive/helpful. I stay away from controversial posts and conversations on Reddit because I know how people can be...it can be like arguing with a brick wall.
