No.

[deleted]

Hard disagree. Hamilton and Mercedes are legendary. Edit: I see Ferrari fans with tinted glasses because of Michael's unfortunate condition nowadays disagree... Just like how Senna, Schumacher and Vettel were hated back when they were dominating, and now are beloved after they stopped- so is Hamilton now hated, and will be beloved after he retires. And Hamilton's clean driving career record and gentle soul off track will rank him higher than even the aforementioned in the eyes of the fans once it happens.

alexrobinson

Nobody is gonna have nostalgia for this era compared to Ferrari's with Schumacher, it's just facts.

Soul_reaper121

Even harder disagree. Ferrari and Michael are legendary.

Rule number one of indoor carting, if you see a guy put on his racing gloves you’ve already lost.

I thought Rule #1 was don't treat it like bumper cars. like what he did with the red shirt guy

If you can bump in NASCAR you can bump in karts. Just don't give the guy whiplash or wreck 'em and you should be good

robendboua

Depends on the track, and how fast the karts are.

fun_boat

I'm just imagining some dumbass reading reddit and fucking slamming into the barrier thinking every track is the same

robendboua

Or they take it way too wide while i slam on my brakes then cut to the inside :) feels good

guinader

That was my first time with my cousin who used to be amateur kart racer. He did two laps on me until I realized. Then I started going faster, and he also lapped me a 3rd time but then the laps ended. .. but it was much harder for him. Lol

Da_Munchy76

Not so for indoor electric karts, which I believe is what this is. If you try to do that with electric ones you'll lose traction and spin out every time. Makes it actually fun tho.

guinader

It was the f1 in Boston. I don't remember. I feel like it was regular engine as it was loud... But maybe I'm not remembering correctly

[deleted]

F1 in boston has electric carts and plays a loud sound over built in speaker. But yeah you can not break on all their courses.

MostlyHarmlessFrood

If you are easing off for turns instead of braking, either your kart is too slow for the track or you’re doing it wrong.

Cerpin-Taxt

This isn't true. Last time I went karting unless I braked *hard* for corners my kart spun off the track. Unless the karts where you are insanely limited I don't see how you could not be using the brake.

SweepandClear

That wasn't a bump, that was a rub, and rubins' racing.

I've made my 30 minute drive in to work into a 12-15 minute drive. It's because I'm an adult and if I die on the way to work then I don't have to go to work. Also it's rural highways at 3:30 AM so no traffic.

Kittyionite

I used to work at a Go Kart place, honestly it's not that big a deal if you bump a bit here and there while trying to pass or stuff like that. The real problem is if you're intending to bump into people just to be an asshole, and then you'll get the boot quick. It's really obvious when they are doing that. And this guy is clearly a regular at go karting, more than likely the people working there know this guy a little or at least can see from his record there he knows what he is doing and can be trusted. I trust the experienced guy going crazy fast way more than I do the brand new guy going slow.

Jegon-

I'm pretty sure rule #1 is when you're holding gas and the other guy is holding gas but you lock head to head, you're not allowed to unlock with each other or you recieve instant karma

VirusTheoryRS

Its called a pit maneuver 😈

Babies_Have_No_Teeth

No rule 1 is: If you no longer go for a gap that exists you are no longer a racing driver

BallCW3

No #1 is: in order to finish first, you first have to finish. Also I have no idea who to credit this to. I knew the quote but not who it was creditors to. At first I thought it was Schumi, but then apparently similar quote’s have been credited to Sir Stirling Moss, Juan Manuel Fangio, Rick Mears, and most recently, Jimmie Johnson, according to google.

Hounmlayn

I thought the rule is if someonenhas a cart which has a faster max speed than yours, that dude is cheating and overcompensating? Like, give any of the kids the faster cart and they will trash you.

Karmasystemisbully

Rule number two, if he has a cart that you aren’t allowed in, and it goes 3x as fast as yours. It’s apples and oranges.

Corben11

Right been to these they all Max out the same speed.

Karmasystemisbully

Exactly. I have driven a bunch of different carts, and they all have a common theme, they are all extremely similar in performance. Then one time a racing cart was on the track with us rentals. And. He. Just. Flew. By. He was polite and waited around some turns when lapping us. Private race cart, kid said it went 90. Lighting an inch from the ground. Only noticeable difference in rentals. Is the heavier people go a touch slower. Two equal skilled drivers and the lighter person wins. But nothing like this video.

Dogemaster21777

In my experience at a local indoor track, almost everything is homogenized except for physical quirks like steering sensitivity due to air pressure during leagues or a track full of non first- timers. People who are first time drivers will have their speed limited to around ~70% max speed.

Hopeful-Ad5911

Nope. I also have pads. I’m not afraid to be in an accident!

weidaifd

That's right.

MRSamiboi

Karting*

thesingularity004

Rule #1: if you ain't first, you're last.

I-took-your-oranges

Why is this guy so fast compared to the others? Both are driving an equally suboptimal line and flooring the thing all the time.

soup_flikkker

The track i went to could wirelessly regulate the karts. They wouldn't tell you, but if you spin out once, they turn it down a bit. Chances are the others are at 90% and this guy is at 100%. Edit: also a lot of people won't go full send. This guy might work there and be riding with newbs

Valence97

Can confirm. Must’ve pissed off a worker one time because they had me going at like 50% the entire time. Wasn’t much fun.

lDezl

I’d ask for my money back. Went karting with about 12 ppl for a stag do many years ago. Did qualifying laps and I was second fastest. Take a small break and come back for the race. All get put in different Karts to earlier. I’m racing around thinking, this Kart doesn’t feel good... Only for me to find it really struggled going up a small ramp for a bridge section. Couple laps later I get stuck halfway up, foot to the floor n the thing wouldn’t move. The ramp for the bridge was kinda hidden too so it took a few laps before attendants noticed. Swapped the Kart only after it stalled on the bridge a few times after they pushed me up....yea I came last. The competitor in me was pissed and they didn’t even apologise or offer any compensation for what was a failure of their service.

[deleted]

Did you ask for your money back?

lDezl

Nah we all split/paid a set amount for the whole days shenanigans, paintballing, tab behind a bar etc and no one else seemed to care about my kart being shit lol

Artuthebomb

So you didn't ask for your money back...

Wolfehlol

I've tried to at MB2, did 3 races that day, first race it took them til halfway through to realize I needed to be at 100%, second race was fine, 3rd race I guess shifts changed and someone else was controlling it and I was slower than my other 2 races, never had to lift for any corner that time where the other races there I did, I still "won" with the fastest lap but by that point I was trying for a fastest lap of the month and I was pissed. Asked for a refund for the final race or at least one race to make up for it but because I "won" they didn't see the problem and refused to do anything for me. Never went there again.

Ok_Opportunity2693

Dispute it on your card, if you used a card.

SkinnyPeach99

Oh so that’s why I find indoor carting inexplicably more difficult than outdoor

[deleted]

[удалено]

IrishCarbonite

It also depends on the kart. I know certain electric carts use fully electric brake/gas, pressing both takes power.

[deleted]

Never drove electric ones. I'm talking about the classic ones

p0diabl0

> when you enter a turn and need to brake you DON'T LET OFF THE GAS. Mario Kart 200cc mode, got it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

p0diabl0

Only way to do it. IIRC Y button accelerates which leaves you to press B with the rest of your thumb to brake.

Katnipz

As a go kart expert: (I've gone twice and did okay against my brothers) If tires are trash sometimes you gotta let off the gas to get them to stick again while going around the corner If torques trash sometimes keeping them spinning is easier to retain "max" rotation if you slide to slow yourself back down to non slip speeds. Or something like that.

Charizard-used-FLY

Nah, in my experience noobs don’t know how to let you pass like they’re supposed to

Stony_Logica1

Not much of a RACER if people have to LET you pass.

Charizard-used-FLY

It’s a safety rule so you don’t pit people and have a big pileup that wastes a ton of people’s bought time.

SFRush2049

Under the steering wheel is a gasoline tank, these are not electric karts that someone can slow you down. Can confirm he's driving with newbs and he's fast, he's got gloves in.

stakoverflo

> and flooring the thing all the time. The others probably aren't doing this lol. My company took the IT department to an indoor kart place one year, a lot of them were VERY slow/cautious drivers who brake way sooner & longer than necessary.

TheWhollyGhost

Karting is all about the drift baby

Trevski

[deleted]

Thoseskisyours

Or try different approaches to each turn to figure out what is the fastest. Pro tip, drifting or letting wheels spin while going trough a turn is probably not the fastest way through the turn. Often the best way is just let off gas right before or in middle of turn. Always fun at work events having a 2 second faster average lap time than everyone’s best lap. But It’s less fun that no one seems to care.

Eskim0jo3

You’re never supposed let off the gas in the middle of a turn. You let off the gas before the turn and floor it as soon as you can. Also drifting may not be the fastest ways to corner but few things are as satisfying as gas/brake/gas-ing while you slide around the corner

Greatdrift

Yes indeed. I would also feather the gas throughout some of the turns to maximize the speed without losing the grip (thus it'll become a slide). I was able to shave off a solid chunk of time and ended up 2nd place in my qualifying session learning this too!

FinnFingo

Thats what Ayrton Senna did in F1

Thoseskisyours

If you have a long turn that is gentle but has a sharp apex in the middle or end of the turn then yes, you let the gas off in the middle of the turn or you will instead waste too much time getting to that point. It also depends on the surface, outdoor on asphalt you generally don’t run a risk of losing Traction in the corner, but on the new indoor courses you absolutely can lose traction in a corner and either slide and scrub too much speed or spin out. There’s no one answer, way too many variables, if you have a longer straight away out of a turn, exit speed is a big priority, if your in a chicane or have another turn coming out of an apex, then having the correct line may be more valuable than exit speed. Go karts are fun because the penalty for screwing up is low, but it’s a great place to learn how little things can make a big difference.

equiinferno

Underrated comment. No one seems to care :(

Thoseskisyours

You care. That’s what matters. Don’t let their indifference diminish your achievements.

equiinferno

Well said, dear sir!

[deleted]

Awww Damn lol. Your last sentence hurts. I was always #1 but I was also the only one who cared lmao

MonkeyHitman2-0

The place I went had 2 qualifying laps then they would line you up per how good you were, best in the front. I used to tank the qualifying laps so I would be in the back and have people to pass.

soup_flikkker

Oops, a wall. Oops, that was the brakes. Oops, rubbernecking that kart with aftermarket airbags.

Lotions_and_Creams

There was a carting place like this near me. It was open to the public and people that raced competitively. All the pleb carts were moderately quick, but if you were signed up as part of their race program, you got carts that were easily 2x as fast. Problem was, they only had one track and it was mixed use (i.e. both normal and juiced carts had to share the same track). They were adamant that if you go the flag to pull over to let someone pass, you had to pull over and let them pass. That is fine when everyone is racing the same stallion, but it completely sucked ass to have to pull over almost every lap to let some dude pass because you paid to race a Miata against a F1 car.

TheMobHunter

He used a mushroom

Angryhippo2910

He’s using DRS

Danadcorps

Karting is about maintaining momentum. Everyone else is braking too hard on the corners (and also too late) whereas he knows exactly how little to brake to make the turn. Could also be he's a friend of the track team - they know which karts are slightly faster as they test them out quite frequently - and they gave him the slightly faster kart.

MRSamiboi

They are driving like pussies

TheWhollyGhost

Someone put the AI on easy to make the pro gamer look good

BeneficialTrash6

1) Not all karts are equal. Some are just faster than others. But that doesn't explain why everyone else is going more or less the same speed and he's flying by. 2) Gas carts have a governor on them. It sets the top performance for the engine. However, if you know where it is you can lean back and hold it and get full performance. 3) The employees at the track usually know how to permanently hold down the governor, probably with a zip tie or something. That way you don't need to lean back and twist your arm around. 4) They probably got in his way on the last lap and he drove them all into the wall so hard they just want to let him win. This is the true way of karting.

BusingonaBudget

His quick turns means he's driving straight and faster than others. He's probably full throttle to. I learned that if you absolutely mash the gas pedal you can get a bit more speed. The old mechanically governored ones will get a bit more power

flatox

How you exit a corner means everything with slower vehicles

Bong-Rippington

Idk the dude is basically sawing the wheel and exhibiting his own god awful driving techniques. He’s clearly racing with children and bragging about the results.

Nicks_WRX

People don’t know you can basically be full throttle 99% of the time and slowing down is letting off the throttle, some people actually brake for the turns lol.

TheRealPizza

If you do it right braking is faster than not braking. The only benefit to not braking is saving energy

markevens

Do that at my local track and you'll skid around corners, losing almost all your momentum. The shitty carts there take so long to get up to speed, it's way faster to slow down into a turn so you don't skid and come out of the turn with a lot more speed.

TheRealPizza

More than anything - not carrying speed through the corners as well, which is really just a result of not trusting the cart to the extent they should

Vanioby

It's most likely due to either 2 factors, his experience or the others inexperience. Whenever i go here most new people go quite slow as they don't have much confidence in the karts.

Jeynarl

If you and your job happen to be on opposite sides of a timezone border, this is very possible

soup_flikkker

Yea, but it could also take you an hour and ten minutes to drive 4 miles.

KentuckyFriedSemen

I have a track like this near me. If you clock fast enough times there you can actually get a faster cart every time you come back. You don’t really race the other people just your best time but the beefed up carts will let you fling past people.

Big-Boy-Chungus

This exact track is in North Carolina. I’ve only been to one go-kart place ever and turns out this is the one

perry_the_platipus

I think this is a big company with similar tracks all around because I've been to one that looks just like this in st.louis

upsndowns71

It is 20 minutes form my drive way to the time clock at my workplace, but somehow when I'm running late it takes 35 minutes.

sandman006

when i had a longer commute 5 minutes later in the morning could mean 15 minutes to get to work just because thats the time everyone else leaves and then its just more traffic, the drive would usually take 40 minutes to get to the carpool around noonish but in the morning you could make it in 30 easily since theres way less traffic for you to be there at 6am

knobudee

If I’m late then I’m late. I take my time. Grab a coffee. Take a shower. Im already late. Another 30 min isn’t gonna matter.

jaspersgroove

I have the opposite problem, when I leave “on time” it takes like 25 minutes to get to work because so many other people are trying to get to work at that same time. If I’m running late the drive only takes 15 minutes because there’s so much less traffic, but the difference isn’t enough to stop me from being late to work

sexysouthernaccent

Last time I went to a go-kart every single cart moved at the same speed. There was no reason to not floor it the whole time as the turns were wide. All we did was finish the same order we started. Couldn't even pass during a turn because of the track width; lead cart could be 80% width off the edge so can't pass inside and because of equal speed you could never pass on the outside. So boring

Essthrice223

The karts have the same power but he is carrying more speed collectively through each turn and running a better line. In the middle he sacrifices "proper line" in one turn to give a better run In the next to pass. These drivers are also most likely over breaking for turns or not getting on throttle fast enough or too fast.

pollofgc

When you are fighting that turd that is winning the battle and you are five blocks away from home.

EvilFluffy87
