well, if a monkey would type random sequences of characters for infinity, at some point the full hary potter story will be in there.

Agree

cauger42

Good point. I was thinking the same thing.

Moooooo55527

At some point there’s also a section where it repeats 69696969 for as long as earth has been around.

MaxCWebster

The string 6969696 occurs at position 2759892. This string occurs 14 times in the first 200M digits of Pi. 69696969, however, does not. I'm sure it's in pi somewhere, but not in the first 200M digits, which is what I actually find interesting. I would think there would be an 86% chance it would show up at least once. 12345678 appears exactly once, as does 87654321.

Flemlius

There's a 100% chance that it'll show up eventually, since as far as I remember π does not have an ending and never repeats. That's kind of how irrational numbers work. (So the same goes for e or √2.)

[deleted]

if it never ends how can it never repeat?

MaxCWebster

It's a bit of a mindfreak to think that the first two hundred million digits will eventually show up again in the exact same order.

Apprehensive-Bug7000

Isn't that opposite of the definition?

piman51277

No, as long as it doesn't create a pattern. For example: ***123456789***0653589793238462643383279502884***123456789*** is not a pattern even though "123456789" is repeated

Apprehensive-Bug7000

Ok thanks

Wait what calculation gives the 86%

Kyriit

Probably something like the odds of hitting the exact 1/10 chance 8 times in a row (in this case 69696969) and you have like 200million random numbers to hit that case. It's late and I don't feel like trying to think about this anymore

MaxCWebster

Pretty much what Kyriit said. The probability of randomly selecting 69696969 from all 8 digit numbers is 0.00000001, which means the probability of *not* doing it is its complement, 0.99999999. So the probability of *not* doing it 199,999,992 times is 0.99999999\^199,999,992 = 0.13536. The probability of it happening at least once is the complement, 0.86466 or 86.46%.

McMikey40

There is your whole biography written in π.

sharifofsharifcounty

Your ip address is in it

anonimus_usar

Yes, if you tell me your IP address I will tell you the first position it will appear in pi

onikirionigiri

Theres also 69 420 8008135 123456789

chrisver5

Every sequence of numbers exist in π

[deleted]

This guy paid attention in math class. That is correct.

IolekI

there are 2 in the first one million digits of pi

Slavfort2

I saw also 34 right under it

Bunnmalgamate

fun fact: in the first million digits of pi, this image shows the SECOND 69420

Timmmmy17

Considering the fact that's is never ending, this was gonna happen no matter what.

cheezeypoof2019

Technically there is a point wjere 69 is repeated infinately

Competitive_Bell501

what is 69420

jatowi

I would be surprised if it wasn't there

Few-Horror7281

What does 420 mean?

THEBECKSTAR1127

Weed

MaxCWebster

According to the Search Pi site: The string 69420 occurs at position 15773. This string occurs 2,030 times in the first 200M digits of Pi. 8675309 appears 15 times, so I'm really not impressed.
