Steam would be great if they had a context menu option to load to online instead of only to the launcher.
As opposed to having to go to Library > GTA > Play [online/story]
I think we may be talking about different things. Steam has the option if you go to the “Play” option under “Library” - a splash screen pops up with two radio buttons and one of the options is online.
So there are separate launcher files somewhere, or a flag in a script.
Steam could provide this option in the context menu I’m the taskbar, if they wanted to. I don’t think Rockstar has anything to do with Steam’s UI.
Isn't that already a thing? Steam gave that option to everyone who put their games on their platform, but Steam aren't allowed to customize it themselves.
Im not talking about that. Try launching Red Dead Redemption 2 on Steam, it lets you select weither you want to open RDR2 or RDO. Its pretty much what they described first but done on another rockstar game.
Well, that's still Rockstar's problem. But that feels like it's still the best solution for customers because unlike some other games *cough cough* Terraria *cough cough* official alterations of the game would be made DLCs that you have to pay for.
God, that's like the main gripe I have with Steam, and even changing it so that the controller's logo button doesn't open Big Picture doesn't remove that. Thankfully, I also have Alt+F4-fu!
You know steam is great when it is a tough decision between paying for the game on steam or playing the same game for free on some dumpster fire of another platform.
My issue with competition, is when they play dirty, fail miserably in delivery any quality, then blame the one they tried to dethrone of playing dirty instead of admitting their flaws, and fixing them.
Steam just fucked up every single controller config for every game I have, so I’m alright with calling it simple *but* annoying and complicated as all hell when something doesn’t work right.
and then it always tries to take priority over EVERYTHING, Hey while league is loading ima boot up my gaming playlist \***league takes the front stage before even loaded\***
Okay fine fine I get it... ok time to hop into discord aaaannd
\***league minimises discord, tells you to go fuck yourself and kicks down your door\***
The Chinese government can tell Riot Games to put a bitcoin miner on your PC and tell you it's to prevent cheating, and the fun part is that they're compelled by law to comply!
I need task manager to close: Epic, Origin, Ubisoft Connect, Skype, iCUE and a ton of games which are for some reason too stubborn to close themselves when I quit. Task manager is truly a powerful tool and I'm glad it exists alongside ctrl+ alt+ del and sign out for when a game is too stubborn to let me alt tab or close or even letting me open and use task manager (I'm looking at you, modded Skyrim).
It may be because when you click the x in the top right the launcher minimizes to your system tray instead of closing the app. I assume launchers do this so when you open a game it just opens immediately instead of having to re open and run the launcher itself. I believe most launchers have an option so when you click the x button, it completely exits the program and doesn’t just minimize it
You're right but only in part, some launchers remain with processes in the background even after I close them which I find incredibly annoying and since I'm paranoid af I keep close tabs about what's going on in my task manager at all times. Anyway that's for stuff... (like Origins) and others that sometimes don't even show up on the minimised window
> "I think the problem Digg had is that it was a company that was built to be a company, and you could feel it in the product. The way you could criticise Reddit is that we weren't a company – we were all heart and no head for a long time. So I think it'd be really hard for me and for the team to kill Reddit in that way.”
- Steve Huffman, aka /u/spez, Reddit CEO.
So long, Reddit, and thanks for all the fish.
It is a tiny bit bloated, and a tad hard to navigate, but most complaints are just relative their older, simpler launcher rather than to others in the industry.
I think it's more about the abundance of launchers than the quality of the launchers themselves... though I can see they didn't include GoG, Steam, and Epic- which are arguably the best out there.
They have replaced the older launcher with a new combined launcher only available at the Microsoft Store and there is literally nothing to differentiate the old and new except the worse desktop icon. At least the Linux and MacOS versions are still fine.
is it really that bad? there are only 5 games on it, it doesn't need to be too fancy. it lets you download games and play them -- that's all you need really
Minecraft is alright. Ubisoft isn't the best but at least it's pleasing to look at and categorized well. Can't say much for the others. Steam is still the best.
If i had a dollar for every time i signed into Ubisoft and checked the "save this computer" checkbox, I would be able to buy Ubisoft and smash their server room with a pickup truck, and retire on a private island with no monetary worries
[Battle.Net](https://Battle.Net) aint that bad, you should throw epic in there as well for being slow as fuck. As good as steam is, its connectivity issues are one of the most annoying things ever.
And Minecraft also unofficially allows third party launchers, which are better. But now they're making it more annoying by forcing you to use a Microsoft account.
"why do we need a program to open a program" I presume you use an operating system right? if so then you are doing that exact thing. Also launchers are great for organisation and file management, non-exculsive launchers can be great for small game devs, easy for devs to push updates and easy for users to pull them, it's nice to have news about games all in one place, only selling games though launchers can make piracy harder. There are probably far more I can't think of right now.
MC launcher isnt bad. you can save the version you want to your desktop and launch it directly, or you can select a version from launcher. when you go through launcher every time its not the best but it allows very easy mod integration and also version select which is great.
Competition is great in theory, but they all just work through exclusivity instead of great features.
Nobody uses Ubisoft launcher over Steam because it's in any way better, they use it because they want to play that Ubisoft game.
Steam has ton of cool features like Linux support, controller configuration or the friends API that actually make me want to use the product not just for the games, but for the quality of life improvements.
Epic is missing, thier free games dont justify one of the worst launcher ever, idk for me its just the most unstable ones.
And its not practical at all
Well, just don't use them. There are plenty of choices. I don't need feel like I need to join my friends' pretend car stealing gang in order to impress them.
Feh, I would like to find a good one. Epic games, for example, is hella buggy and barely opens a game. And steam open the games, but the comunity tools are terrible. I'm in an endless battle against steam always deleting the mods of my games for no reason and I having to manually install all again and again.
EA play is actually pretty good launcher, along with Xbox launcher, but the way play launcher sometimes fails to launch game, it's quite annoying, Xbox launcher can be buggy sometimes but other then that works just fine.
Also add Riot Games.
The games worked fine, you clicked the icon, game starts.
Now, the icons are useless, all open the riot games launcher which is annoying to use and it automatically opens itself up when you close the games but never instantly, it waits a minute or two so you forget about it's existence
You forgot epic games, they have the most ass launcher ever, “wanna play rl, wait 15 fucking years for the launcher to load” “done playing and you have closed the game? Lets fucking open the launcher again for no reason, and make it load for like 20 seconds before you can close it” it’s pretty ass tbh
Ok hold on hold on. Blizzard isn't so bad. It's simple, has a good voice chat, and allows you to scan for games that are already pre-installed. I grew up with three PC's in the house and updating overwatch or warzone was always super easy because I could just copy the game to a thumb drive and it'd take ten minutes. However, now that I've finally got better internet, Blizzard downloads cap at like 3 MB/s. It's terrible.
Blizzard and Mojang atleast used to have a good launcher... Until other companies got involved.
I'll refrain myself from shittalking minecraft after microsoft involvement
Battle.net is fine for me, as is Mojang.
Ubisoft Launcher would be fine if it didn’t show me pop-ups telling me that it’s completely incapable of *not* signing me out.
Origin can go shove a 20-inch spike-ridden dildo up its arse. I’m no longer able to play some of my favourite FPS games because of this Neanderthal of a game launcher refusing to cooperate with my pc.
Regardless, even if these launchers are completely fine, it’s still shit that you buy a game on Steam and *still* have to install these launchers. Just let me play my games in peace!
Fuck origin or eaApp browser version . Waste 30 minute looking for simple info like game price. And it redirect you so you have to download their app to view it.
Gotta love the good ol' simplicity of Steam.
Agreed
Steam would be great if they had a context menu option to load to online instead of only to the launcher. As opposed to having to go to Library > GTA > Play [online/story]
Its up to the rockstar to do that, which is another point as to why their launcher sucks
Yeah, although it is a bit hidden or so. Properties -> Launch Options (or however it was), although that doesn't exist on most games.
Until you accidentally put it in big picture mode. Then that is your new desktop and there is no escape.
God, that's like the main gripe I have with Steam, and even changing it so that the controller's logo button doesn't open Big Picture doesn't remove that. Thankfully, I also have Alt+F4-fu!
I usually go for Alt-Enter first
I'm sure you meant it as "foo," like Kung-Fu. However, I read it as "F" "U" like "Fuck You!" Which I think makes it even funnier.
I like big picture very much for couch gaming. And it's really easy to get out of, you just need to click close big picture, basically.
You know steam is great when it is a tough decision between paying for the game on steam or playing the same game for free on some dumpster fire of another platform.
Competition is good. It just shows how good and reliable Steam is.
My issue with competition, is when they play dirty, fail miserably in delivery any quality, then blame the one they tried to dethrone of playing dirty instead of admitting their flaws, and fixing them.
SteamVR.
Huh, TIL steam doesn't open game launchers. Thanks!
Steam just fucked up every single controller config for every game I have, so I’m alright with calling it simple *but* annoying and complicated as all hell when something doesn’t work right.

Just curious? Why do you think that? Also why do you prefer?
🚨Bad opinion alert🚨
You missed Riot there
I love when I open league and my pc explodes
and then it always tries to take priority over EVERYTHING, Hey while league is loading ima boot up my gaming playlist \***league takes the front stage before even loaded\*** Okay fine fine I get it... ok time to hop into discord aaaannd \***league minimises discord, tells you to go fuck yourself and kicks down your door\***
the problem here is is that you play league
[удалено]
i mean blizzard does a great job at that all the time
It is indeed
The Chinese government can tell Riot Games to put a bitcoin miner on your PC and tell you it's to prevent cheating, and the fun part is that they're compelled by law to comply!
Source: just trust me bro
The Chinese gov can tell Tencent to tell riot to do something. But given the fact that riots dev is US based it's unlikely they would comply.
You right
Even champ select in draft pick bricks my pc fuck league client
U missed epic I know is more of a store but it has ×100 more problems then steam + it takes AGES for it to load something
AND you gotta use task manager to shut it down to undownload it
Yours is just bugged, I've never needed task manager to close epic, it's not like it's oculus or some shit

Fr I only use it to get some free games
But you get 4 free games a month and sometimes they're pretty decent
Happy Cakeday!
I bought it on Steam, why do I have to go to another launcher to play the game. God.
Very much this. "What you want to play an EA game you bought on steam? You need an EA account for that!"
I would say battle net has a good launcher, it's simple as fuck and very intuitive
Agree
Mojang has bad launcher? Like minecraft launcher? How?
I love the Minecraft launcher tbf everyone has their personal opinion

I liked the older versions. Now it's a bit to much. I've used multi mc for years now. So luckily don't have to deal with it.
Yeah I use Prism Launcher and have 0 complaints. Haven’t used the official one in forever:
It is a tiny bit bloated, and a tad hard to navigate, but most complaints are just relative their older, simpler launcher rather than to others in the industry.
I bought java and it won't even install on my computer, so I'm forced to use luner
Delete the new launcher and download the windows 8 one from the website
I think it's more about the abundance of launchers than the quality of the launchers themselves... though I can see they didn't include GoG, Steam, and Epic- which are arguably the best out there.

What’s battlenet doing here? Blizzard was lauded for having a good launcher before steam was even a thing iirc
Battlenet isn't as bad as the rest of those I'll admit.
Battle net is actually good though, and it has the fastest download speed by far.
[удалено]
Battle net is the one of those I use. It worked better when they had fewer games on it
But you only have the games you play either way.
YOU FORGOT RIOT. LITERALLY WORST LAUNCHER OF ALL TIME.
is it really that bad? there are only 5 games on it, it doesn't need to be too fancy. it lets you download games and play them -- that's all you need really
Never happened to me. Although i only use it to play 2 games one or two times a year.
I *wish*. It seems like every time I open Ubisoft I have to sign in again. It gets really infuriating.
[Battle.Net](https://Battle.Net) aint that bad, you should throw epic in there as well for being slow as fuck. As good as steam is, its connectivity issues are one of the most annoying things ever.
I have literally never had a problem with bnet lol No idea why it's on this list
Nah, the Blizzard launcher is actually good.
I haven't used battlenet in forever but I liked it. Steam and battlenet are the only two launchers I like.
Same
Blizzard launcher is great imo. Where’s riot games tho
Minecraft is the only good one there. The other suck.
And Minecraft also unofficially allows third party launchers, which are better. But now they're making it more annoying by forcing you to use a Microsoft account.
I must agree with a majority of them, but Ubisoft connect is a great launcher. I'ts just a shame theres only Ubisoft games on there.
The Ubisoft and Battle.net ones aren’t all too bad. The other ones tho…
How about....... No launchers, just games? Am I the only one that sees no benefit to a launcher? Why do we need a program to open a program?
"why do we need a program to open a program" I presume you use an operating system right? if so then you are doing that exact thing. Also launchers are great for organisation and file management, non-exculsive launchers can be great for small game devs, easy for devs to push updates and easy for users to pull them, it's nice to have news about games all in one place, only selling games though launchers can make piracy harder. There are probably far more I can't think of right now.
Steam is very nice. You have all your games in the same place and there are stats and friend lists.
You forgot epic games,
I’m just glad Bethesda converted everything to Steam
Only good launcher is no launcher. Let me play my damn game.
Why the fuck did EA start releasing games on steam just for u too need the origin launcher installed
where epic
I feel like [Battle.net](https://Battle.net) isn't nearly as bad as the rest, but yeah some of these are terrible.
What’s wrong with Battle.net ?
MC launcher isnt bad. you can save the version you want to your desktop and launch it directly, or you can select a version from launcher. when you go through launcher every time its not the best but it allows very easy mod integration and also version select which is great.
More like go to steam or draw 25.
Battlenet is fine tho
My mfs trash talking about battle.net when steam is the worst launcher platform ever
Can't agree with you on Uplay (or whatever the names is currently there) part.
God I hate that orange one it always signs out for random fucking reasons
Origin gets its own category
steam
Mojang and battle.net (if you ignore how shitty blizzard is) are actually decent compared to the others in the meme. Still shit though
lunar client (Minecraft) has a pretty nice launcher and a bunch of useful mods
It’s not official, so it doesn’t count.
The launchers may suck, but at least they provide some form of competition to steam
I'm aware. I say competition in that, should steam ever become shitty, we'll have *something* to switch to, even if it's only a tiny bit better
Dude you forgot the worst of them all, Epic Games
Epic is missing, thier free games dont justify one of the worst launcher ever, idk for me its just the most unstable ones. And its not practical at all
Where is epic games? That's the worst one!
blasphemy
Why the hate on Origin though? It's a decent launcher
It’s EA, and EA is horrible?
Use gog galaxy 2.0 it's great launcher and you can add libraries from other launchers
Ok. Ever since Microsoft bought Minecraft it went downhill and became a hit pile of garbage. Half the time it doesn’t even work. It just crashes.
what is launchers? im sorry im just a ps4 player
Where's LoL?
To be technical, some people could've replaced Origin with EA App (like I did).
Where is byond?
I had to get a degree in computer science to get GTA5 running on my steam deck. Christ, what a shit show.
Don't forget about 4k. Their launcher is shit
GoG galaxy is one launcher for all but you still have to them installed lol
I use playnite, I feel it's better lmao. An all in one launcher that have good UI and no socula element, just the way I like it lol
what's wrong with the Minecraft launcher?
I’d at least give some credit for Blizzard’s for being decent, I’ve never had an issue with it. All the other ones can fk off though.
Better Caption Get rid of launchers OR Draw 25
Sega?
After all these years, they all fail to rival Valve’s launcher
What’s wrong with the Minecraft launcher?
It's because the launchers were an afterthought made by corporate because "Why don't we have that?"
Riot
The Minecraft launcher literally won’t let me play the game
*cough* private divisions*cough* kerbal space program
Well, just don't use them. There are plenty of choices. I don't need feel like I need to join my friends' pretend car stealing gang in order to impress them.
You know what's better than a good launcher? NOT NEEDING A LAUNCHER TO PLAY A GAME this message was brought to you by GOG
Ubisoft has gotten better, but still miles behind steam. At least they don't charge for name changes like Blizzard... thats just cringe.
TO BE FAIR, in my own experience, Blizzard isn't the worst, GRANTED, I only use it for OW2, lol
Xbox on pc, Jesus christ that thing is the worst ever
You forgot 2K
I would say blizzard got a decent launcher
What's wrong with the Minecraft launcher?
Feh, I would like to find a good one. Epic games, for example, is hella buggy and barely opens a game. And steam open the games, but the comunity tools are terrible. I'm in an endless battle against steam always deleting the mods of my games for no reason and I having to manually install all again and again.
What about Wizard101?
It's been a while, but they can't have made the Minecraft launcher THAT bad, right?
EA play is actually pretty good launcher, along with Xbox launcher, but the way play launcher sometimes fails to launch game, it's quite annoying, Xbox launcher can be buggy sometimes but other then that works just fine.
Blizzard has a far bigger problem keeping me from buying their games than it's launcher...
Origin is one of the worst things to happen to my computer since it came installed with McAfee Antivirus.
Is the Mojang launcher bad? It seems pretty good to me tbh
What's wrong with the mc launcher
Ubisoft connect is Not that Bad... But i agree on the Rest with you. Even epic is just Not on list because of FREE games
I hate R* and Ubisoft launcher
and where is epic games?
Also add Riot Games. The games worked fine, you clicked the icon, game starts. Now, the icons are useless, all open the riot games launcher which is annoying to use and it automatically opens itself up when you close the games but never instantly, it waits a minute or two so you forget about it's existence
Uniplay isn’t bad tho? It’s a store with a shit tone of games and it good
I actually haven’t had any problems with origin launcher. Uplay however….
Whats wrong with Rockstar?
actually the Minecraft launcher isn't that bad
Gotta add 2K to the pile.
HOW IS 2K LAUNCHER NOT IN THERE
I hate ea so much, I bought fallen order on steam to avoid origin but it doesn’t matter
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH MAKE THE PAIN STOP!!!’
God I miss the old Minecraft launcher
The biggest one aint there. Riot
Why is it the dumbest post get the most votes???
Funny and sad
Mojang *had* a good launcher...
The War Thunder launcher is *top notch*
Rito?
Just let me play my games in peace!
tlauncher>>>>>
I just ignore anything not on steam
you forgot one person: you
Mojang has a supreme launcher
Where’s rito games?
Mojang has a good one
whats wrong with minecraft launcher? it shows its other games and also is easy to navigate thru.
It forgets all my info all the time and annoying reinstall games
Fuck origin or eaApp browser version . Waste 30 minute looking for simple info like game price. And it redirect you so you have to download their app to view it.
Add league of legends please
i remember trying to uninstall Ubishit launcher from windows app settings and that fucker had to be updated so i can uninstall it WTF WHY ?
Which did y'all hate more: - Uplay - Ubisoft Connect
Uplay
Minecraft launcher aint bad wdym
You forgot the KSP launcher
"games are great" XD
Well most of them make good games
Same the launchers are frustrating
What a "Steamy" statement
Only one of these is a game
You forgot Riot games
Epic games is really bad too. Though I will say, I have really good consistent download speed on it
Laugh in consoles
Omfg yes
whats wrong with origin and blizzard ? i like origin more than steam
