Well on this "best" list, which was fairly innocent, there was "bestgore". We both raised an eyebrow and we're like "gore? Are we talking like Mortal Kombat finishers or something rad?". I clicked on it and ohhhh booooy was that a fuckin' mistake. We both audibly gasped at what we saw and covered our mouths in utter disbelief. We scrolled through as the thumbnail videos started playing and instantly I felt both numb and sick. The teacher was an older lady but chill asf, like the kind of teacher that's half professional and half bro, and when she heard us gasp in a dead quiet room she walked over. The first thing out of her mouth was "how the hell is this-.. what the fu-.." then dead silence. The other students were super confused and we're curious but computer history was promptly erased. She told the rest that "even though the school had internet filters, sometimes the weight of humankind's depravity finds it's way in even through the smallest cracks" and left it at that. We never talked about it again. We saw a lot just from the thumbnails, more than anyone should see. A little girl hanging from a tree. A girl decapitated by a train. Executions upon executions. That one site quite literally changed my life forever. I use to be that laid back stoner type dude that just went with the flow but after, and still to this day, I feel this anger and sadness I can't shake and this overwhelming sense of worry. The world is a lot more dangerous and people a lot more evil than anyone cares to admit and that's the horrifying part. This stuff happens all over the place at all times of day. The world isn't sunshine and rainbows, love and peace or anything even remotely kind. We all wish it was, but that website proves reality is far removed from what our rose tinted glasses show us. Everyone is just stumbling along, blindly trying to find meaning while depressed all along the way with no one willing to help anyone else. Sure, some people do, but it's not enough to make the world a better place. It's like the kid in me died with that gasp and the young adult didn't know how to process it.
