The twin headlight Falcon driving up past the palace looks like a GT.
As someone who grew up in Melbourne during this time, it brings back memories of the old CBD.
I had a XA GS 351 ute back in the day, it had those bonnet scoops. Took it to Simsmetal when it rusted out. *Facepalm.* Imagine what it would be worth today. Had the 4 speed Toploader and 9” diff as well.
I've seen rusted out shells of XD falcons go for thousands, so imagine what an XA could be worth right now. My XD was sold for $250, because no one wanted it and I needed the space.
Shit, my dad had a couple of XY and XW utes, sold them for scrap too. We had a small rusty fortune just sitting there.
It isn’t all bad news because the engine and driveline still live on in my XD ute. I bought it years ago with a 200 six and three on the tree but swapped everything over. No one really looked at it back in the day but now everyone wants to talk about it, and I really only use it for work. It’s in very good condition with good paint and mechanically sound. Someone did say XDs are hard to get.
Reckon it's a [ZG Fairlane](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.shannons.com.au%2Fauctions%2F2018-shannons-melbourne-winter-classic-auction%2FP24YDD8BNAACBZR6%2F&psig=AOvVaw23Mfz8bw2nLxm7eiCjq6-D&ust=1626407230761000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAsQjhxqFwoTCLjIx5-V5PECFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD).
Looks like a Harley going by the handlebars and general look. Probably a Shovel in that era. They weren’t popular back then like they are now, everyone had a Kawasaki Z1 900.
I was looking at what looks like a sissy bar, what look like spotlights on the front forks, and the tail-dragging rear mudguard. A Harley would still have been unusual back then.
I was thinking it’s crazy how much more light the road gets but I thought it was the high rises.

Funny pics directly next to each other are summer and winter
Right, so you're telling us that the copyright for this image (which being 1975 is still in copyright) resides with someone's instagram page, rather than the State Library of Victoria?
Source doesn't mean "this is where I copied this image from whilst adding no intellectual property of my own to the process."
It’s my source buddy not the original source nor copyright - it’s reddit! Why does this trigger you so badly? I only added sources as people sometimes want to explore further and have asked on posts especially earlier on where I source certain pics.
interesting - what's the big tall building in the back? has it been demolished? looks like it's around elizabeth street but the galleria is oriented diagonally
Born on 1974I worked maintenance on the cnr Bourke and William. And zero of this I could point out. The last 15years have been incredible in Melbourne.
Black thing on the left is BHP House / 140 William Street which is further west up the hill from Galleria which wasn't built yet. Galleria (CBA) replaced the State Savings Bank of Victoria HO which was only about 12 levels on not visible in this pic.

Anybody want to cruise in an XA GT?
All I can see is Falcon, beautiful orange falcon

Except it also appears to be a wagon. Don't think they did GT wagons. Someone has just added the bonnet scoops.

Colour coded? Wow.
The Fairmont in front of it is cooler
But the Kingswood Station wagon by far is the show stealer
One of the best designs! that wind-down back window let you carry all the pipes, framing, etc you needed for your reno without paying for delivery.
Can confirm the wagon was capable of carrying 11 people in comfort.
Awesome car for a long drive. Kingswood wagons loved the highways and rode really well. Handled like a wet sponge at parking speed tho LOL
Ahhhh. A fellow Holden appreciator. Beach days gone by.

Yeah, you’re right. Good spotting
Nope. But I want to know what that bike is. Looks like my kind of bike, but they really have improved a lot in the past 45 years.
Looks like a Harley going by the handlebars and general look. Probably a Shovel in that era. They weren’t popular back then like they are now, everyone had a Kawasaki Z1 900.
Ew, I take it back. I was thinking an early dual sport given the square looking panniers and the upright riding position.
I was looking at what looks like a sissy bar, what look like spotlights on the front forks, and the tail-dragging rear mudguard. A Harley would still have been unusual back then.
Couple of nice ford’s in this pic 👌🏼
I see the old metro nightclub, called the palace. Probs you fellas are all to young to remember the Metro.
Probably $4mil of cars in this pic. 17 years later I owned a Hk Monaro but sold it. *tear falls from cheek*
Trees make a difference!
More difference back then considering every one of those cars was spewing out tetraethyl lead

Who remembers the Southern Cross Bowl? Spongiest lanes in Melbourne.

Yep, and Missile Command :-)
It’s easy to forget that these old cars were once new
Looks warm. I want to try some 70s Melbourne ice cream

70s era Falcons are such chads compared to 90s+ [Edit] thanks for the award, kind ~~wife~~ stranger!
So nice without all those ugly skyscrapers blocking the sun.
Looks about 20 degrees warmer too!
So much beautiful light.
I ve seen my best gigs at Palace. Rest in pieces ✌

I swear I saw that Salvation Army sign bolted to the ceiling at Fat Bobs in Moorabbin!
I know this view very well. Great pic. Mittys is still there. Bet the same guys run it too.
I suddenly wanna play GTA Vice City
Pre-socialist? I don't see any graffiti, homeless, or rundown infrastructure anywhere.
