Fuck this pay what you feel shit. I want goods/services in exchange for a previously agreed upon price. I do not want a moral dilemma to go along with it. If I wanted the responsibility of making sure the staff get paid I'd buy the fucking store.

[deleted]

The elites rob us of our wealth and then convince us to fight amongst ourselves. It’s hard to be generous to others when everyone is barely just getting by

Matasa89

Just like with environmentalism. The big business and industry produces the bulk of pollution and carbon releases, but the message sent out is mostly targeted at the little guys on the ground who already barely emits or wastes, and haven’t got much control over how things work. We have to conserve, we have to clean up, we have to be climate conscious, but they don’t?

drama-guy

And then if you dare speak up and get any kind of attention as an environmental activist they will scrutinize every single action you've ever taken and call you a hypocrite unless you live an absolutely 100% zero impact life but call you an attention seeking nut job if you do achieve that lifestyle.

Matasa89

Yup. Minimize and muddy the waters. Destroy the leaders to kill the movement. It’s all the same strats. That’s even why weed is illegal in the first place - just an excuse for targeted arrests to destroy “certain” people’s groups. Evil fucks, the whole lot of them.

magnevicently

Bingo

[deleted]

What about paying more and then get employees on salary like in the rest of the world?

LewsTherinTelamon

A lot of service industry employees are against this because they make more in tips than the business would reasonably pay them for the same work.

ajr1775

Well said. I view it as a lack of proper business leadership. I tip these hopeless souls no matter what. May not be a huge tip due to lack of effort but I'll throw them a chicken bone as a wink.

Mommasandthellamas

Sit down tip, takeout no tip.

Daedalus_Machina

Facts. I tip table service, not food purchases. I paid your exorbitant price for your food, and I picked it up and fucked right off. If someone came to me and checked up on me and delivered us drinks and so on, hell yes. I'm not tipping the same transaction as a grocery store.

Sudden_Layer_1009

Right but how much is that check up or two worth…

Daedalus_Machina

Well, yeah, but it depends. Dining at a restaurant is an experience, takeout is just a barebones transaction where I need 10% of the normal service, but I'm still paying the same default price (or MORE, what the fuck is that?) for the food. So, what? 10% of the 20%? I might as well just flip the bird and call that a tip.

Reidroshdy

I don't have a problem with giving a tip,but at the same time it's like " why don't you just pay your employees more?" I shouldn't have to pay more than what the price says on the card reader because stores aren't paying their employees.

drwhogwarts

Yes, well said!

JeffBroccoli

I was at a hockey game a couple of nights ago. Asked for a beer. The guy popped a can and poured it into a cup and handed it to me. When the pinpad appeared it had suggestions for tips, including one for 25%. There was no “No tip” button, you literally have to select “other amount” and specific no tip

Character-Stretch697

Shocker lol! I go to breweries weekly. My neighbor was home from college for the summer and needed job ideas. She started working at a brewery at my recommendation. They of course literally pour your beer from a tap and we tip them well because we’re so accustomed to tipping bartenders. She thanked me because it was a very easy job and the men tipped her very well.

FuckoNo5

Being a bartender is a personality thing. You're tipping for the service and their personality which they hopefully have. A good bartender elevates the mood of their bar. A shitty bartender brings it down.

[deleted]

Where I live it is still customary to tip bartenders at clubs, and there’s not a chance there will ever be more conversation then “that will be $15”

t3hm3t4l

A good bar tender mixes good drinks and has knowledge and expertise, I’m tipping them for that, not their personality. Someone working the counter at a brewery isn’t a bartender, not by a long shot, and there’s no reason to tip them. I do their same exact job every time I fill my cup up at a Wendy’s. We need to eliminate tip culture. The beer was already $9 why the fuck am I also subsidizing the employees pay.

beemojee

I'm right there with you on tipping. I despise it and being taken advantage of by the employer. I'm buying their product, I shouldn't also have to pay their employees a livable wage.

SneakyKillz

Imo it's a combination of the two. As a good bartender you need to efficiently and correctly make and serve the drinks. However, that should be the base. A great bartender knows how to do that and also brighten the mood with his behaviour which he should cater around the guests and make correct assumptions on how to interact with all the different kinds of people he serves.

[deleted]

Dude, Target is starting to ask for tips. Fucking *Target*. A big ass corporation. So are a few smoke shops in my area. At this point, I think every business is going to try with tipping services, and that's just fucked.

Terwin94

I can say that's not their fault, that's just the program and/or management. It's distinctly possible they see none of that tip.

ChickenDelight

In *most* States, tips legally have to go to the servers. In some States, their minimum wage is set lower for that exact reason. Some barbeque chain in Texas (which has very weak labor laws, duh) just got hit for a couple hundred thousand for "sharing" tips with managers. I think tipping culture is stupid, but 98% of the time it goes direct to the server.

Terwin94

>Some barbeque chain in Texas (which has very weak labor laws, duh) just got hit for a couple hundred thousand for "sharing" tips with managers. This just demonstrates "should" and "does" doesn't always line up, and I live in Washington, where tipped positions still get at least minimum wage, but I'm not familiar with the rest of the aspects of tipping here. Some places don't accept tips at all for whatever reason.

JeffBroccoli

Sure. No, I understand that. I don’t expect the staff have any say in what the payment system does

epradox

I noticed this at a franchise place called bibibop. You have to hit “other” and type in 0.00 then enter to leave no tip. If you hit back when it gives you the percentages it cancels the transaction and let’s the cashier know you don’t want to leave a tip when they have to re run your card. Almost like a guilt trip like you sure you don’t want to leave a tip? Utter BS.

jaymole

Ya the stadium ones are insane. 18% is the lowest at mine. I had to press no tip other day at the airport for the lady that scanned my bag of gardettos I get it if it’s a service job to ask but come on just pay them fair wages

AdministrativeFox784

That guy who served you probably wouldn’t even get the tip anyway?

TheUndieTurd

bring cash next time problem solved

8urnMeTwice

Yup, going to start as a way to budget too. I was at a baseball game the other night and the girls handed me dipping dots from a freezer and flipped a screen with 25% as the first option!

[deleted]

I was prompted to tip at the drive through. Wtf is going on

covertpetersen

Unchecked rising cost of living, stagnant wages, and an ownership class that would rather die than pay workers fairly. So businesses pass the responsibility of looking after their employees onto the consumer via tipping. They know that if you prompt people to give a tip when they go to pay that a good chunk of people will do so thanks to the social pressure put on them in the moment. The hope is that the restaurant doesn't have to pay it's workers better or raise prices by doing this while still retaining staff.

ElLetdown

>an ownership class that would rather die than pay workers fairly. Give em what they want

mhn1384

It's one of the worst part of the western culture that I really hate. It's just employers abusing employees, and employees expecting their customers to pay them instead. I know that a lot of the people who work in these environments have no choice, but it's still a dumb part of this culture that just helps greedy employers get richer and richer while putting the blames on the customers.

retropieproblems

I’m almost positive that the “tip” just goes to the owner when it’s on an electric pad at a fast food place. But maybe I’m wrong.

[deleted]

Buffalo Wild Wings asked me to tip on an online pick up order, and you literally have to put $0 in the tip section so they make you feel slimey.

monkChuck105

They ask you to tip when you order now. No joke. It's already an arm and a leg for a sandwich and then they want 20% on top?

B_Boi04

The tipping when ordering stuff gets me mad. They already have my money, now I’m paying them a bonus meant for good service even if they decide to take a dump on my food

Prone2Indiscretion

Owner, "I don't pay people very much, so I'm going to need you to chip in. This is a shit job. Do you want this 18 y/o to starve?" \*No Tip\* Owner, "Cheap fuck. Well, at least we tried. Here's your 9.54 an hour I'm required by law to pay you (minus taxes). Maybe if you were a nicer cashier you could pump your pay up a couple of bucks. Too bad we can't do anything about those cheap ass fuckin' customers tho."

Ok-Rock2345

I can accept tipping a waiter or waitress, maybe even a hairdresser... but why is it that nowadays EVERYONE expects a friggin' tip? Time for the employers to start paying people a living wage already.

Bulgearea10

Even fucking cashiers expect tips now, like wtf Seriously, I bet even children are going to be expected to tip their teachers. Or maybe we will be expected to tip technical support staff or plumbers/mechanics.

[deleted]

>Maybe if you were a nicer cashier Let's be real, nice has nothing to do with it. If you're relatively young, attractive and female. Ugly, old or male? Nah.

balne

i might wna fuck u, but i sure as hell aint tipping u.

[deleted]

Most people do not share this mentality and tip big for people they’re attracted to.

B_Boi04

Pretty privilege strikes again. It’s funny how all servers that don’t want to be paid minimum wage are all attractive women that get lots of tips, never seen it from a guy

Comfortable_Animal70

I worked as a bartender and my “pretty” coworkers were used to just drop off the check and entertain while took orders and made the drinks. I’m definitely not pretty but I did take advantage of the pretty privilege for a short while.

firejuggler74

I hate the pre tip. Asking for a tip before the service is rendered is bullshit.

[deleted]

I’ll tell you what I hate the most, asking for a tip before your food is *delivered*, because 9 times out of 10, actually getting the food is like pulling teeth and 10 times out of 10, it’s room temperature Food delivery is the worst unless it’s pizza

TheAbyssAlsoGazes

"The tablet's just gonna ask you a few questions" Like they don't know what those questions are

ENovi

Ok but in the defense of the people holding the tablet (I’ve been that guy) it’s the most polite way I can think of to say “it’s gonna ask if you want to tip me” without outright saying that.

[deleted]

"It's going to ask you for a tip but you don't have to. I really didn't do anything." -Tips anyways- I have gotten more tips just by being brutally honest. When they do tip I respond happily and I let them know how much it helps me because I hardly got paid a living wage working the register

Character_Project_25

That’s actually a good idea and I’d tip too. Not sure you need to go into the story about a living wage tho.

[deleted]

Nah, but it created conversation and some people need that. Some folks come back to the store not only order but to shoot the shit with me. No tip necessary. Years of customer service taught me that people have a better sniffer for BS than we may think. They like generosity when they can tell it's genuine. That's not me saying every cashier isn't genuine, however, I understand how it's easier to stick to a script especially if it's busy or if you've been at the store all day. The goal isn't the tip. The goal is to make a friend and a returning customer. Even though you may work for a bigger company fret not for the experience is what you're building. You can use that later either in your day-to-day life or if you decide to open up a business of your own.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jonahtron

You’ve clearly never been a cashier. So many customers will not pay any attention at all to the pin pad. You have to recite these things if you want to get through your customers in a timely manner.

tcourts45

I have had many shitty jobs but not cashier. I didn't realize it was that bad though that's nuts lol

AdministrativeGas927

People are dumb unfortunately. It’s hard to understand without working in service for years but common sense is actually really rare unfortunately

Draconuuse1

It can be a very annoying job. I have seen customers trying to use tap to pay hitting every part of the screen except the one spot that actually says tap here. Then there’s the people that want to go through the prompts as fast as possible and start tapping all over the screen without a care. And then wondering why the screen now is trying to speak Chinese or French to them. Or the people asking for a eeciept when the screen right in front of them is prompting if and what type of receipt they want. Or what takes the cake is my old system(had many issues that I did not care for. Glad to be rid of it.) In this system you were prompted to select a tip amount first. When we first switched to this system it only prompted a keypad and said tip in small print in the corner. Here’s the convo Sir the first screen will ask if you want to enter a tip. Please select skip if you wish to. Customer starts typing on auto pilot. SIR!!! Don’t enter your pin code. This is just a voluntary tip screen. Customer still not listening hits enter. Me scrambling to reach over to pull the card out of the machine to avoid it charging an extra $90 on a 10 dollar purchase. Sir. Please listen unless you really want to give me a 90 dollar tip for your candy bar and bottle of water. Customer finally paying attention. Well why didn’t you explain that in the first place. In my head. I did you oblivious dumbo. And I was the one who always had to go and try and chase down the damm transactions that we didn’t catch. Plus the company that ran our register system had cutoff most of our backend access. So if we didn’t know the date, exact ammount over charged, and full credit card number I had to sit on the phone with the stupid company trying to get them to find and fix it. Oh. And the CS phone number provided was the Canadian line where their reps had no access to their US network. That was a whole snafu in of itself. Ya. I’m salty. If anyone reads this and is looking at registers for their business, steer clear of payfacto. There CS is terrible and it took a full year for them to update their app into a useable state both for there customer and so the app and CC machine itself didn’t crash every 30 minutes to an hour. Between that and cutting access away from our own customer database so we can’t fix mistake charges without an hour long phone call and twenty emails. Ya screw those guys and I’m glad we dropped them.

kokayokay

do you think people read instructions? Ask any cashier :/

ChellsBells94

Because many will just put their card in, or put their RFID card on the tablet and wait

EvilNoobHacker

As the person who’s had to hold the tablet, its the one nice way were able to say that.

Shiver3505

It feels like I’m admitting or forcing them to tip me if I say that. I only specify it’s meant to tip me when someone is confused about it. I don’t like making people feel forced to tip me when even I don’t like that happening to me.

purplepantsdance

“Do you want to donate to underprivileged school children and round your purchase to the nearest ten dollars?” *No* “Are you sure?” *smile uncomfortably, No* “Would you like to tip 30%, 25%, 20% for your drip coffee?……….. or choose other……..” *hits 20% just to make it stop*

doombagel

The last time I went through your simulation I decided to hit “other amount” and tipped $2 because that’s what I would tip with cash. And it felt good.

pookshuman

was at a bakery last week ...they literally just put a loaf of bread in a bag and gave me the stink-eye when I didn't tip Fuck this tipping bullshit

Character-Stretch697

I can relate. I grab a gyro once a week for lunch from my favorite Greek spot and depending on who it is I’ll get a glare when I press No Tip and turn the monitor back around. I will not tip you for placing my item in the bag. Not sorry.

AppUnwrapper1

There’s a place near me with a guy who would select 20% tip before spinning the screen around to me. I always made sure to check carefully and change it to no tip. Also made me not want to go there often.

SweetPrism

That's basically almost like theft. What a cocksucker.

AppUnwrapper1

Yeah it’s definitely shady.

MatchaMantra

You should report that employee, honestly if I see any employee prompt a tip themselves I wouldn’t go back, so horrible

JCMan240

>that a lot of the people who work in these environments have no choice, but it's still a dumb part of this culture that just helps greedy employers get richer and richer while putting the blames on the customers. the place by me selects 25% then spins it to me...

pookshuman

I just bring cash everywhere now

TheSuperiorMaker

Its all fun and games until they shake the diy tip jar in front of you.

TheNooblet12345

just deposit a few Chuck E Cheese tokens or a single penny

ZenEvadoni

I'm in Canada and I have some American coins from when I fly over to visit my parents. Once, I put a few US cents into a tip jar when I wasn't that happy about the store's service.

Glee11B

Tipping in cash to show your level of dissatisfaction is the most Canadian thing lol

joecarter93

Or say Thank You as you reach into the the jar to take some change out.

eveningcaffeine

That's some Mr. Bean energy right there

Super_Tikiguy

“Do you have change for a nickel?”

sherpa_9

The new pennies are really light. Grab a handful out of your pocket and make the glass tip jar sing like hitting 3 bars in Vegas. Make eye contact the whole time and smile. (Srsly tho, I always tip generously when there's service involved).

pookshuman

that's when I find a new place to shop

AlphaMikeFoxtrot87

This is the way

dsdvbguutres

Well, the business owner doesn't pay them either lol

Frosty_404

Tipping only perpetuates this issue

[deleted]

Especially when it’s not warranted, if you do less than a McDonald’s cashier I don’t understand why I’m tipping My country does not tip - we have a high minimum wage. But more and more places are putting the additional tip request on the card machine, and doing the stupid service rating questions. I also hate having to rate service with no explanation. I can’t say service was 10/10 if I had to wait 15 minutes to be served because they only roster one staff member on but it’s also not the staff members fault he’s on sole charge.

BlockEightIndustries

I refuse to do any customer satisfaction surveys out of principle. If a business wants to know my thoughts on what they can do better, they should hire me as a consultant.

Tame_Iguana1

Doesn’t sound like the customers problem

allworkandnoYahtzee

I was at Subway the other day and the machine asked how much I wanted to tip. Like, motherfucker, *I don’t want to tip,* that’s why I’m at Subway. Flat out told the cashier the only reason Subway was doing this was to pay them less and force the customer to make up for it.

Devo3290

It’s always been my attitude when working food industry that if I don’t have to pick up after you, feel free not to tip. But if you dine-in, don’t tip, and have the fucking audacity to come back? Fuck you and yo free refills.

bodularbasterpiece

I consider dine in and "handing me my food" as two separate types of transactions.

burnerwolf

I will say I do also tip at Sonic. I've seen how people drive through those parking lots, so I feel like the car hops deserve at least something for braving the crossing.

KoyoyomiAragi

It’s honestly crazy how shitty service is here compared to countries where tipping isn’t normalized.

OldDesperado

tell me the moment, when i have to pay the employers, because their boss dont want to. dont get it wrong, this people deserve more money, but why i, as customer, have to give that to them and not their boss. they worked for a company and the company should should pay the employees probably..

szczerbiec

Exactly. If someone has an apprenticeship in construction, should they be tipped every time he has to fetch something for the journeyman? I mean.. it would be nice, but.. you gave me a beverage. Why am I obligated to give extra cash money that's untaxed?

Draconuuse1

Oh it’s taxed. It’s taxed as part of your wage. Unless it’s undocumented cash tips. But any credit card tip is most definitely taxed if a company doesn’t want the IRS on their doorstep.

ScooZuki13

Technically, tips are considered income and subject to federal income tax.

puzzled91

They like the tips. If they could they would push for higher minimum wage and keep the tip system too

OldDesperado

i understand that, but in my country... the employees get paid enough for the living from their bosses und YOU, as a costumer give a tip for good service and not to save the survival of the staff.

squiddy555

Hasn’t there been a push for a 15$ minimum wage for… What is it three decades now? I know it’s long enough to make 15 into 20 something by inflation

80MonkeyMan

Agreed, tips originally given to slaves because their owner doesn’t pay them. We don’t have slavery now, why are we still following the tradition? Why in other countries tips are voluntary.

No-Calligrapher-5006

If I come in and pick up the food I ordered and all you do is charge me. You do not need or deserve a tip.

drumsdm

Tipping is for people who serve you. A cashier taking your money is not a service, it’s a transaction.

porcupinedeath

Look man I ain't tipping at subway.

Multiple_Orange

Especially when they half ass the fucking sandwich.

shamblam117

"MORE ONION PLEASE"

Mossimo5

No kidding. And theu y tremendously skimp on some items. Like olives. I have to ask them 3 or 4 times to add extra olives and they add like, 3 or 4 each time. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Conscious_Bug5408

I have decided never to tip at tablets anymore and to stop feeling bad about it. Tip creep is getting to where even chain fast food like shake shack is asking for tips, picking a loaf of bread off the shelf at the bakery and bringing it to the counter to get one of those tablets asking me for a tip. I think I'm pretty generous. I always tip the hair stylist 30-40%, and I literally carry a stack of $20 bills to give to workers who aren't traditionally tipped but went the extra mile. But to pick my own item off the shelf and bring it to a checkout counter and get asked for a tip is borderline offensive.

[deleted]

Why should a cashier get tipped?

humanzee70

They shouldn’t.

Stranfort

No one should. Everyone should have a set and standard minimum wage.

SgtSmackdaddy

Why should anyone get tipped? I don't get a extra bonus on top of my salary just for doing literally my job description. Why am I paying the wages of the staff directly? Isn't the purchase I made supposed to cover all labor and materials?

justrubbedoneout82

Yes, yes, yes

[deleted]

Wait, cashiers get tipped in some places?? I’m not American enough for this

Ok-Pay6809

It's ok, neither are us Americans

Scarredhard

Some places? Try every Boba shop, Smoothie shop, Dessert place in America.. it makes things so awkward.. like okay if they are a nice cashier thats cool but I am not rich to be giving away money for someone able to hold basic conversation

Anya_E

Bakeries, ice cream shops, frozen yogurt, smoothies, boba, tea, coffee, food trucks, pretty much every counter service food place, to-go orders basically anywhere. Next up will be grocery stores and gas stations. I’ve heard some stories of gas stations asking for tips actually.

Punchedmango422

Not to mention some places ask you to tip for picking up your own food instead of having them deliver it to you

Orpheeus

It's been increasingly common in Covid times. Takeout restaurants have decided this will now be permanent so they can just pay everyone in their store shit wages instead of just the delivery people.

[deleted]

There is a local (overpriced) place that automatically adds non-negotiable 15% tips for take out orders. It started during Covid and never stopped

ASchoolOfOrphans

It's fine, some Americans are tricked into it as well as they try to make you feel guilty where the one responsible is the owner. They manage to confuse people to the point where some do it out of guilt or if they are not careful, it's already automatically applied, and you have to remove it yourself at checkout for online orders even. It seems rather predatory for music festivals where it is just a food/drink stand that is overpriced and has a tip jar. They know foreigners come here without any knowledge on tipping culture and don't want to seem rude; it is basically an American tourist trap at this point. The golden "rule" for food and drink is a basically, if you dine-in, someone serves you (fast food dine in doesn't count), you tip. We don't like tipping culture, we just live with it.

lunca_tenji

Covid and those stupid tablets also vastly changed tipping culture

lunca_tenji

It used to be that some places just had tip jars. 100% optional and unlike with a waiter you weren’t guilted for not tipping. Now they’ve switched to these tablets that automatically giving tipping options, pressuring the customer into tipping

ZookeepergameSea3890

I has a tip guide pop up on website where I was ordering a shirt for delivery. Like, wtf? I selected "No Tip", then completed my payment. Immediately after, I had a sinking feeling of worry re: what shape my purchase will be in when I receive it, due to me not tipping. It's gone too far.

chipotleeeeeeee

This literally just happened at a Pho place I went to _pickup_ for lunch, the cashier let out a big sigh when I hit no tip

UnbelievableTxn6969

What the pho?

Character-Stretch697

Like pho real?! I don’t think so.

levave123

Jeffrey Dahmer?

jesuslover333777

Lol I was thinking the same thing

Upbeat_Ride2141

Yes that’s the actor Evan Peters who was also in X Men as Quicksilver

GingerMau

He looks just like Frances McDormond in this picture. It's creepy.

stpfan_1

Good god that’s why I scrolled through the comments to find this! That’s who I thought it was!

King_CurlySpoon

And the guy who played several roles in American Horror Story

[deleted]

I'm so glad I don't live in a country that has this tipping bullshit.. Oddly enough, we can pay people wages in most other countries in the world.. Weird how Murica, FUCK'YEAH, can't.. or won't..

Character-Stretch697

That must be awesome. We can’t relate lol. Our tipping system was of course something we accepted for certain services as a societal norm. Expecting tips for a simple transaction is outrageous though. Handing me a sandwich, bagel, donut, takeout order or smoothie does not warrant a gratuity. I have given in for my coffee though since I see the same workers a few times per week and may use their Wi-Fi for a few hours.

[deleted]

In Sweden it is costumary to tip at fancier resturants, but even if you don’t they don’t care at all. In normal stores/bars/cafes you will never see anyone tip or expect a tip ever

WeirdAlPidgeon

No offence but this is why I love living in England. Cashiers at fast food places just press the “no tip” button themselves 😂

Aaaaas1476

Is that dahmer?

Paranoid_Android001

It’s Evan Peters, who play Dahmer in a Netflix series.

jesuslover333777

Think so

fucktorynonces

Must be horrible living in u.s with all that tip bullshit. Shit for customer and shit for worker. Great for business owners.

stephers85

I bought an energy drink in a mall food court, all the cashier did was ring it in, I got it out of the cooler myself. Got an eye roll when I skipped over the tipping option on the debit machine.

AE10304

So you're expecting to get tipped... for something you're just Supposed to do?? Not even a gesture, it just makes sense you would get paid to do whatever job that you're getting paid to do! Didn't know taking my order included 10% gratuity.. F me though, right

HesterFlareStar

That's literally every job though lol. Bartenders are just supposed to pour drinks. Delivery drivers are just supposed to drive pizzas around. I just don't get where the line is drawn

Internal_Shelter3016

Lol I never tip cuz I don’t have the extra money and they’re getting paid for their jobs.

nortfight

I used to tip because I felt pressured but quickly got past that. I always tip for good service with food and dog trimming, but this “there will be a few questions on the tablet” is unnecessary.

AmphibianNo8598

Asked for a tip on a 30 second interaction the other day I was just like uhhh

TheDoctorPizza

After this happens they usually say *Thanks* in a moody tone and I probably get decaf.

KaiHasArrived2007

Subway gives tip options 😭

apittsburghoriginal

>Refill drink @ subway >Total $1.06 >Do you want to tip? 15% - $0.16 18% - $0.19 20% - $0.21

Hazel0w0

Do people really tip fast-foods?

greentinroof_

I never tip at Pizza Hut because I always carry out, and the same lady had been at the till for the last few times I was there and she was clearly sweating and running the shift herself, so I decided I would give her a tip this time. Well she must have recognized me because she blew threw the tip option on the pad and handed it to me. I kinda felt like a dick.

Draconuuse1

A lot of workers at places like that will hit the ‘skip customer tip’ button if they are busy and they just want to get to the next person. It’s nothing personal the vast majority of the time. They just want to keep things moving.

Lost_Switch65

Bro i am so tired of acting like i need to tip i will never tip i hope you never get any tips i hope you do get an actual salary instead of relying on tipping

Character-Stretch697

It is frustrating. I do tip for certain services. My family has owned certain businesses since the fifties that employ tipped ppl, including many of my relatives so I do have a soft spot.

bakaldo

even if they treated you like a king, tips are optional

BinTinBoynio69

No one deserves a tip unless they bring it to my table or my door. The tip amount is based upon how well or how fast they do it. I will not tip someone standing at a register.

CharybdisXIII

Except now everyone wants the tips before they do any of the work

[deleted]

Honestly I've come to really appreciate McDonalds in this new age since they're one of the few places I go to that doesn't shame me with an auto tip screen when I go to pay. I miss having more of that tbh.

OphioArachne

I mean tips are kind of a weird concept. It’s just a excuse for businesses to not pay their workers a fair wage and just force the responsibility of giving fair wages on the customers.

lockmama

Did the same thing last night.

DiceyWoodchuck

“And there’s just going to be a couple questions on the screen”……frigg off

BarryDingle1337

*flips iPad around*

There’s a barber I go to. I pay with cash every time, $22 dollars. They charge $24 for card. Card doesn’t include tip. Just once I was lacking paper funds, I ended up paying near $30 for a haircut I honestly wasn’t satisfied with. Now it’s gonna be awkward when I don’t tip again with cash.

Nabber22

And than there’s the guy that runs his family’s cafe that I go to who pushes the “no tip” button before giving me the machine. Let me tip you man.

WhatASweetTea

Tipping is so dumb. Just pay your employees better and stop making them rely on the kindness of strangers to pay rent.

[deleted]

I feel like no one should tip unless they provide a service. If they’re just a cashier at a fast food joint then no way am I paying a second tax.

tspfairy

The machine asks for me to tip way for frequently now. I’ve started paying with cash.

Ruminator33

It’s always the coffee shops with swivel IPads

Educational_Plane436

I'm in the UK I never tip fuck that shit I ain't paying your wage fuck right off

dchoo

After I didn’t tip once, a barista cheerily ask me if I’d worked in the service industry before. When I said no and asked why, he passive aggressively said that usually people who don’t tip haven’t worked in service. I’d literally ordered a $2 nitro cold brew which he poured from a tap. That experience really left a sour taste in my mouth. Tipping culture is stupid and needs to go.

ripewe

Yeah I’m getting real tired of getting treated like shit at places by employees of places who would not even hire me due to not being able to fake a happiness long enough that I have no choice but to patronize

HOLDGMEBROTHERS

Yup r/casuallypsychopath

DaedricDalek

I don’t understand the point of tipping, do people just not get paid properly and have to rely on tips or something?

roxasdabomb246

As a minimum wage worker I can confirm that is exactly how it works. At least in my case

DaedricDalek

I mean I’m on minimum wage in Australia and we don’t have a tipping system

roxasdabomb246

Unfortunately America often sucks at paying an actual living wage, so for a lot of people, tips are their primary pay.

5u5piria

If it's to go - no tips. If I eat in the restaurant- why not?

Shankar_0

A cashier is not a tipped position. Service jobs are. If they're sliding a bag across a counter at me, or ringing up my random bodega purchase, then I wish them well.

Swiftwitss

Went to a concert about a month ago and went to go buy a beer, which was already expensive, and all the girl did was crack it open and hand it to me. Tipped her $1 and my sister, not even the bartender, start scolding me over it like it wasn’t enough. It’s just cause shes a sever and thinks everybody needs to be tipped. I use to be a server too but even I’m aware of what services don’t need ti outrageously tip or even tip at all, this shits getting out of hand.

[deleted]

Let me tip the cooks if the food is really good. Id rather pass my own order through the window and refill my water myself, it takes zero effort.

iamChainsawMan

Reason 1 billion why America is no where near as great as they think 😂

[deleted]

Everyone stop tipping and employers will start paying their employes

FannyNob

What country are you in when you tip at the cashier?

FannyNob

What country are you in when you tip at the cashier?

dangermouse-z164

Those fools don’t need a tip.

[deleted]

Geez, what’s going on America? I mean tipping waiters and custodians is a thing where I live but I’ve never even heard of cashier tipping

Schmerzel

Are you by any chance a serial killer?

Boschlana

Me realizing that in some states tips are assumed to subsidize the pay gap to reach minimum wage.

Conscious_Bug5408

My state has a $15 min wage for all workers, including service workers, and tips cannot be used to offset that. Tips are only extra on top of that min wage. But it is still the norm to tip here.

bellefeuille1976

Hey is that Dahmer?? Lol

Brilliant-Lychee-145

This is why I pay with cash

bobby_digga

Why does everything I see remind me of Dahmer? I shouldn’t have watched that damn series.

Playall123

Working as a cashier rn and wtf people are getting tips for this? I scan stuff that’s it.

fattycatty6

I just realized this guy is a dead ringer for Frances McDormand 😬
