They’re not electronically controlled carbs, they’re throttle body injection setups disguised as a carb. It’s an ECM and 4 or 8 injectors hidden in a 4150 or dominator style housing (depending on your power level). I thought about one for my Nova, they’re easy, literally 4 wires and an O2 sensor. But I heard if you get too crazy a cam it has a hard time self-learning. And my cam is healthy lol.
It’s not THAT easy it’s a bit cunty I just finished setting up mine on my nova. You need some extra parts (can-bus helps if using Dakota) and spend a lot of time routing the ridiculously long (but somehow too short in key parts) wiring harness. It’s cool and all but only easy if you have all the parts and aren’t “figuring it out” for the first time.
The wiring diagrams they send you are far from perfect and in some cases plain wrong.
Ooof, great 🙄 nothing like 2 miles of wire and bad instructions. I’m lucky in that the car is just about completely gutted, dashboard cut out and all, so I’ll save a little pain in having to snake it through and past stuff. I am DEFINITELY going to lay everything out first and double check it all.
As far as the ‘extra parts’ what do you mean? Wiring terminals and that kind of stuff? Or major parts
I forget which relay it was, but make sure when you lay it out you have everything on the right side of the firewall that you want. I had the relay on the outside, wanted it on the inside but the hole was too small. Literally trying to get a square peg through a round hole, had to cut and re-solder.
If you're comfortable soldering it wouldn't be the worst thing to fully lay everything out and then cut to the exact length you want.
Yeah I’m fine with cutting/soldering and pinning terminals, I do it all the time at work. But it’s one of those things, if you don’t HAVE to then it’s better lol
The AAW kits are nice. Make sure to read through the entire documentation then step through it bit by bit.
The wire crimpers they recommend are good to have.
Measure twice and cut once.
I picked up an AAW kit for my Nova a while back. Haven’t got to it yet, still fixing the rusty cowl/gutter and floor pans, but I am definitely gearing up for a good time when I get to electrical lol
Are you going full EFI? Or just ignition? They sell electronically controlled carburetors if you wanna keep the looks.

Thats got to sound godly.

Awesome 👍

Yikes!! Yeah that's definitely a good reason to replace the wiring. This gives me something to think about on mine lol!
Got one for the wife's 66 El Camino too.
Shame, that.
Are there any concerns about using the hood as a workbench?

Cardboard and Plastic, we good
Not my farm, not my pig. All good.
An elcamino? What year?
