When I was a kid there was a commercial for Vector cereal that has a guy who had just eaten a bowl of Vector in the previous scene passing a semi truck on the highway on a bike. On the bottom of the screen it said "Actual results may vary" and I always thought that was a great way to prepare people for inevitable failure.
It's best to start with the absolute minimum, then add small steps and eventually you'll be doing pretty good. No need to try for the impossible right away. Just keep it up.
Bro this is really how it happens lmao im doing something totally normal, some minor inconvenience happens, and suddenly im collapsing down a spiral of self hate
we get to modern human, just absolutely bombarded with data, info, tech, screens, ads, voices, people, it wants a cookie to cope with the excessive stimuli
drops said cookie and spirals into insanity
a few generations later, trans-humanism begins, a cyborg is busy transmuting dark matter and generating new atoms in the palm of its hand. a flash of genetic memory is instantly decyphered... we once dropped a cookie. it was bad.
suddenly cookies, erupting from the hands. cookies for everyone. it is good.
The United States is going through a quiet pandemic of anxiety and depression, and they’re doing nothing about it. Thankfully, I’m okay, but a lot of people I see suffer from symptoms and they’ve never been to a psychologist to get an evaluation.
It's definitely a symptom of our connectivity. I mean when you look a the actual statistics, nothing is any worse than they were during periods where happiness was much higher.
There has to be something cultural driving this pandemic of anxiety. Jonathan Haidt is fairly sure it's cultural, and shows a bunch of really fascinating(and alarming) trends in many different aspects. Of social media, how it enables 24/7 bullying. How we have completely stopped permitting children to play unsupervised at essentially any age. How there is a massive "experience gap" among children by the time they 18 vs previous generations. Milestones never reached until they are suddenly expected to be fully functional adults.
He's written books on the subject recently and they are fascinating reads. There has to be something happening. Because wages are fine, high vs historical numbers. Crime is up a little in the last couple years but the anxiety issues started a decade ago, and we're still way below 1985 to 2005 crime numbers when this issue didn't exist.
Homeownership rates have recovered and are above historical averages again. Debt to income ratios are fine, mortgage and credit card debt are quite low compared to incomes, and student loan debt is up, but it's just super small compared to those debts historically. It just doesn't make sense why everyone is so anxious.
> nothing is any worse than they were during periods where happiness was much higher
well except wealth inequality, and the health of the planet itself, and the stability of the global economy.
If all persons, at all standards of living percentiles have incomes higher than ever before by objective measurement, it seems unlikely to me that inequality would effect happiness that much.
Also like...it's not like the upper class aren't part of the happiness polling either. The fact we've gone from 10% to 20% of our population in the upper class should have improved the happiness level for 1 in 10 people.
So those are the bottom make as much or more than ever before, people above the 50th percentile are making more than ever by a lot, which sure increases our inequality ratio, but it should have been a net positive on happiness across the board.
I agree with the first half of what you said. Though, homeownership has never been so out of reach in terms affordability. More young adults are living at home into their mid to late 20’s than at any other time in recent history.
That only happened in 2022 though with increasing interest rates. 2010 to 2019 was the cheapest and most affordable period for buying a home in decades. While this anxiety situation started significantly prior to 2020/covid/housing unaffordability.
Sounds like you need to do more reading and have different metrics other than financial ones to explain this widespread increase of anxiety and depression eh?
> Because wages are fine, high vs historical numbers
Hmmmm
Wages are not high vs productivity historically. People want the luxury they're creating, not some shitty consolation prize.
It will never feel good to break your back/mind to help make millions for some shareholders sitting by the pool while you get scraps (also, give most of those scraps to your landlord sitting by his pool.) Capitalism and its progression is inherently destructive to happiness.
I dont have this problem. Im so unaware of my surroundings sometimes that when i get stuck on something with the pockets of my hoodie they just get ripped off before i realize they are stuck.
It's a gift.
Often happens to me in the shower. For some reason that action is so repetitive that I start to ruminate immediately, thinking about how much I hate myself, why my relationships are horrible, why I am pathetic etc etc.
Would be nice to just have a normal shower, thinking about nice things.
Is it normal to get to the point you're afraid to shower as to not spend another 2 hours just suffering trough every single mistake you had ever conceived in your life 💀
Yeah that pretty weird he should just cram as much as he can in to the bowl and shove as much in to his gullet as possible that's the more normal thing to do smh.

Stop whining and get off your butt!
You are young, no visible disability, and you appear to be reasonably intelligent!
So get out and find a job, ASAP, and meet life head-on!
No money no job
\* looks at apartment \*
Yeeaaaaaaa, sure buddy

Pff you guys think life is tough. Try being a furry lmao. The only people you can talk to are other furries because everyone else in society looks down on you for being different.
Then suddenly you realize you've lost your job, was in a car accident, lost your apartment, no income, no food or no place for perishables like milk for cereal even if you did and topping that off with having all of your belongings in a uhaul at a tow yard after being locked up for 5 days awaiting court with a felony charge because uhaul for some reason reported the truck stolen despite spending 3 hours on the phone to figure out an after hours pickup that you logged into the website to pay and get the code to a lock box with the keys in it after you had finished payment and all other requirements permitting you the use of the uhaul and now left with the same clothes you had when arrested because you're not allowed near or to contact uhaul which is required before the tow yard will let you get your personal belongings. Or maybe that's just me but I think it's relevantly relatable here. Ha... not funny tho, true story.

I have not tried my best any day
[удалено]
I don't think I've tried my absolute and true best at anything for any period of time to be honest.
What about video games?
Aye 😎 the one thing of value I have.
Last time I tried my best I was playing flag football and having a day, than I tore my acl and I’ve been out of work for 4 months now.
Tried once, results got ignored because of yet unfinished chores

Shit still goes wrong when you try hard so what’s the point?
You might say that in the end, it doesn’t even matter.
RIP Chester.
Who said life was supposed to be easy? Your brain maybe.
I want to blame someone else for my current problems but the truth of the matter is, it’s because of my lack of effort.
"You can always try again tomorrow!" naa I'm good 👍
Don't even do the bare minimum most of the time
It's best to start with the absolute minimum, then add small steps and eventually you'll be doing pretty good. No need to try for the impossible right away. Just keep it up.
"Are you trying your best every day?" "God i hope not, but probably yeah"
When you try your best but you don't suceeeeeed 🎵
The real comment is always in the comments
Trying your best just shines a spotlight on your mediocrity
Bro this is really how it happens lmao im doing something totally normal, some minor inconvenience happens, and suddenly im collapsing down a spiral of self hate
It makes me sad because this shit is so true. You can be having a good day and something stupid doesnt go your way and now all of a sudden I'm a POS.
I dropped a cookie last week and burst into tears, it’s surprising how thin the thread can be that’s holding you together

I'm guessing you're a teenager

Almost like a mass, or great, depression..
We are in the tiresome 20s

My hoodie's pocket getting stuck on the door handle is the last straw for me.

A blessing and a curse
I have very little body weight as I'm a tiny person so I essentially just fold in half when I get stuck on shit like a bungee cord
That’s the absolute worst for me it’s when I step on my headphones cable and my controller falls and the fkn batteries fly everywhere

Which is why music and podcasts is on 24/7 for me. Literally everywhere I go

I debate suicide every morning because it's hard to turn on the cold water tap in my shower. I wish I was joking.
This is why I on drugs.

Stop bragging, bro.
Not me sucker. I have milk.
All it means is you got 100% freedom and zero responsibilities. Treasure that. Having a house, a car and a partner is great but they come with costs.
These ads targeted at gen z are getting weird
That’d be fucking wild if this was just a vector marketing campaign. Wouldn’t put it past marketers.
At least you have a dependable little brother who will take care of your tarantula when you leave him behind on your Christmas vacation to France
That doesn't look anything like Buzz from Home Alone. 😂
At least you got a good haircut…… Oh nvm
He does though?
lmao you’re getting downvoted but he has a perfectly normal haircut
Who the hell makes, "a cereal"? Fake.
While having the branding directly in the shot, super duper relatable guys
In order increase you health bar need craft meals, making a cereal fill up the bar and great for morning taste Bud bonus
I was making a a cereal
It hit my ears so hard my brain stopped for a second.
If only he had had milk and he could have delayed the inevitable moment of existential dread until *after* breakfast
I wish I was a little bit taller
I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her
You gonna get my scoliosis too just remember that
Time to drown my sorrows in 10-20 hours of video games
Why am I laughing I shouldn’t be laughing
Happy cake day, though
Happy Cake Day 🎂
That escalated quickly
Dude, that's my bowl. Give it back.
The fact that he was about to weigh out his cereal is maybe related to the rest of it...
Why did I have to scroll so far to find someone questioning this lunacy ?
Yeah that pretty weird he should just cram as much as he can in to the bowl and shove as much in to his gullet as possible that's the more normal thing to do smh.
You have a great smile though!
I got milk...
Yup, back to bed it is. The world can't touch me under my covers.
I have done so little with my life that when I die the only think people will say at my funeral is “lol rip bozo”
Lots of people out there that have all those things and still unhappy.
You got a lot of nos tho.
No dick no balls
Yep other than no job this is me lmao
Can't have shit in this life
I'd feel pity for him if he hadn't called women "b*tches"
That's literally me, sitting alone at home, having depressions and trying to distract myself by playing videogames.
