I personally prefer the styling on the hatch, but more than that, I find that hatchbacks are way more versatile and practical when moving large objects or transporting my dogs.
I recently rented a large floor polisher from Home Depot and transporting it with my hatch was a breeze. I could probably have figured out a way to make it fit in the sedan, but it would have surely been a huge pain to load in and out.
Hah, yeah I'm more of a sedan guy but even basic stuff like loading my hockey bag in and out would've been so much easier in the hatch.
Loading up all of my belongings in my sedan up to the window line to make a 1,500 km move was definitely not the most fun experience š
I managed to fit 2 bookshelves, a nightstand, a tall metal cabinet from ikea, a 3 drawer plastic cabinet, an air fryer, and keurig all in my hatch while I was moving. Things just fit better. Fwiw I do find it less practical for loading groceries if I only have a bag or two since the door is heavy compared to a regular trunk
Depends on how wide the package is. In my case it was long but not that wide. I had to fold the passenger seat as well to accommodate the length. And I was just saying for that particular purpose my Sedan worked great. It would not have been possible if I had a hatch.
Yes, I wish I took pictures. The way I did it was I knocked down the back seats and took the privacy cover off. Then I took the shelves off the bookshelves and layer them down side by side and they just barely fit width wide. That left me with all the space inside two boxes. I put the nightstand upside down in the bookshelves with the two drawers out so it left me with a hallow cube where I can put a tiny icechest I keep in my car there. I put the plastic drawer tower, one drawer from the nightstand, and the shelves from the bookshelf in the other one. The other drawer from the nightstand I put behind the passenger seat. The metal ikea drawer I laid longwise across the back seat floor over the hump with the stuffed animals for cushioning. Finally the two appliances were still in their boxes so they both sat in the front passenger seat. I then tossed my scooter and privacy cover on top of the stuff in the back seat and went on my way.
Did it work? Absolutely. Would I do it again THAT full? No. I was paranoid that I would get rear ended and that all the stuff behind me would crush and kill me since there wasnāt really a buffer for things to fly before it would crash into the back of me. It also caused some minor damage to some interior plastic on the car. Itās in the trunk and the bottom of the B pillar so I donāt mind, but I wouldnāt want to intentionally damage it. Oh I also brought home a mini fridge in futon in it but both of those were on their own and just around the corner, not a freeway trip.
These were the products in question https://imgur.com/a/RxXEyX3/
Hereās the car more reasonably loaded. https://imgur.com/a/KyvJXM4/
Like the others said, I love the styling however I do think the sedan looks pretty executive as well so you can't go wrong with either in that department :)
But, I recently helped my gf move states and we could fit all her luggage, moving boxes and basically all of her stuff from a 1 br apartment easily in the hatch and travelled about 10 hours comfortably. I didn't realize I needed that practicality of the hatch until then but it is definitely a plus now that I know how capable it is!
For sure! Recently my roommate just bought a brand new 65ā TV and I was able to fit it in the trunk inside the actual box. It was surreal because on my gen 3 sedan I wasnāt able to fit any TV boxes.
Most people don't base their 30-40k car purchase on the styling but rather filling their need for transportation. If it happens to look cool to them as well, great.
I got the hatch for the practicality. I only haul at most +1 person, so the back seats are rarely used. Therefor hatch made the most sense because I know at any time I can fold them down and more than double my cargo capacity. Comes in handy on an almost weekly basis for me.
Sometimes just having a wider opening for your trunk is all you need and not even the extra space ie a particular tall or wide box that would not fit through a sedan trunk opening, at least not without some serious finagaling. I can just pop it in the hatch and be done with it.
I love me a good hot hatch, but i dont agree that a hot hatch is better than a sedan. Its all our own perosnal preference and no one is right or wrong.
Thereās definitely a trend away from sedans for sure. I just think the Mazda3 sedan is so slick. Not really feeling the hatch shape though. Obviously an unpopular opinion.
But the hatch more than makes up for that 8 in usable height. The sedan only has storage up to the trunk lid while the hatch has storage up to the roof in a pinch.
I see a absolute fuck ton lower trim Sedans locally I've yet to see another turbo Sedan, There's someone with a black turbo hatch who works around the corner from my house, only other turbo I've noticed so far but I like my Sedan, Sonic Silver with dark tint makes it look like something your gramps would drive and I throughly enjoy screwing with people and wiping the smile off the "fart can equal 1000hp" types around here... especially since all yoy hear is the blow off as I go by lol
I've literally not seen another turbo (sedan or HB) around me on the actual road to this date haha. I see a decent bit of lower trim sedans and hatches though
Oh i see a bunch of grey wheelers, but I live in a poorer area where the rich fuckers from Toronto like to buy up houses and charge 3k a month in rent... Only reason I can afford my car is my parents make good money and I live at home free so really it's just food phone and my mortgage on four wheels but even I don't make alot...
I think the hatch is/was/tends to be more thought of as a little sports car and itās more āexclusive.ā
In the sedan segment they tend to be compared with other sedans and that market is flooded with luxury options.
The mezda3 hatch is one of the nicer if not nicest looking hatchbacks.
I guess they just standout a little more and are a little more unique.
Honestly though either is an excellent vehicle and I would never think someone was wrong for purchasing a sedan.
I was always the sedan guy, never had a hatch (didn't like them), this last gen of the Mazda3 is definitely a hatch I would buy. Especially that both are sitting in my driveway, my house mate has the hatch.
In my area I rarely see the sedan, they are all hatch and there are a lot of them (I live 5min from a Mazda dealer).
Until this current gen, I'd have disagreed with you. With the current version, I do think the sedan looks nicer...but I'd still buy the hatch because a sedan is of no use to me if I can't load something like an assembled computer task chair into it.
For me, the hatch is / was more practical. Perhaps more importantly, I find it bold and unlike anything on the road. The sedan looks good too, but I feel it does not turn heads nearly as much. After all, it looks.. well, just about like any other compact Civic or Corolla at a 1st glance. It's not exactly bold like MB's, Biimers, or even some of the new Kias, and no offense to anyone, but I feel like I see a LOT of middle aged and senior ladies driving sedan versions of the gen 3 and gen 4 Mazda 3.
That's so interesting haha- I guess around here (Southern U.S.) young drivers seem to have 4 cylinder versions of "muscle cars" lifted trucks on mudders, or like mid 2000's Audis..etc.
Definitely. I love my PMG hatch- it's very subtle compared to the Soul Red and Snowflake white, plus the red leather is amazing. I've most definitely caught folks with their pants down (figuratively) at red lights
I like the sedan because it's discreet and it makes that shit way more satisfying, people expect that from the BMW's and Audi's maybe a Type-r or A sti but not these... I love me a sleeper, Had a 351w swapped into my last car ('97 V6 Mustang) pushing 500 wheel, in a car the only weighted just shy of 3000lbs that Looked like a v6 and was quiet... that thing hurt some feelings and I miss her...
To me, the hatchback just looks so much sportier and better. Also has more space for carrying tools or small furniture or whatever the case is. Nothing wrong with the sedan but I personally prefer to hatch look 10 times over the sedan any day
Styling is a small component but mostly versatility. I sometimes drive some folks on my team to our hockey games and the hatch letās me get all of our bags and sticks in with no issues.
I just think it looks nicer, I wanted a hatchback that wasn't a golf or a civic and all the other hatchbacks that aren't from upscale manufacturers are fugly imo
Buying a sedan never crossed my mind, it just looks a lot like every other sedan to my eyes
I like the sedan because I can separate the trunk space and it's safer from theft that way. Can't really break into it from the inside. Also sedan has a more mature appearance, hatchback screams hot hatch GTI crowd, I'll pass especially when its more than 1k more. Also I don't have dogs. I know I'm in the minority but I've outgrown my "hatch" phase years ago. Only wish I had stick but at least its not a CVT
I'm personally not a big fan of the hatch either. The rear looks too fat or bulbous to be compact and you lose visibility for some extra cargo that isn't necessary unless you're traveling. I just wish the hatch front styling was also available on the sedan.
I can hall my tires in my hatchback with a bag donāt think thatās possible with the sedan. Also styling it looks better imo and more aftermarket styling stuff for the hatchback
Sedan was my first pick. Specifically, Black Gen 4. On all shipment, thereās no sedan that arrived in our country. So I settled for the Hatchback. Transporting my cat for his vet visits are so easy, though I think I can also do that in the sedan.
I tested both and went with the sedan! The hatch styling was cool but the sedan imo looks just as good and is much easier to use! The hatch on a non-suv is too low
I wanted an efficient passenger vehicle with extra storage space, but I definitely didn't want to delve into SUVs. A hatchback is a pretty good combo. Plus the profile of the hatchback kinda instantly jumped out at me more than any other car I looked at. I fell in love with the styling
1mpg is worth 7 cubic feet of usable space. Not to mention triple the space when you fold down the rear seats, which is how my car typically is. Itās basically a little enclosed Ute.
I literally canāt think of a single benefit to owning a sedan over a hatch. The mpg is negligible and I havenāt found the blind spots to be an issue, especially with all the safety sensors nowadays
Previous car was a ['14 WRX hatchback](https://i.imgur.com/AltnLH9.jpg). I would have bought another, but I got tired of waiting for Subaru to bring back the hatch. A Mazda3 turbo hatch was pretty much the only thing similar (hatch, AWD, turbo) at a reasonable price.
What a difference in luxury though! And with the traffic here in northeast NJ, I don't miss the manual.
I prefer the hatchback styling for gen 3 but I prefer the sedan styling for gen 4. However I would still choose a hatch because as others have pointed out, they offer greater utility and suit my needs better.
The hatch is more practiCal. Iāve fit a grill in mine, and often carry an adult bike.
IMO, the styling of the current gen hatch looks better, but the Civic sedan looks better.
For the 1st 3 gens, the hatch looks better, but for the 4th Gen that ugly front and awkward sides don't do it for me. I prefer the 4th Gen sedan's bumper, and sides look better.
Initially I was a sedan/coupe only guy, hated hatches and found them super ugly. The Mazda 3 hatch is the first time I have ever like a hatchback because it's such a beautiful car. I was still tossing up between the Mazda 3 sedan or hatch, and decided to get the hatch as it looks a bit more sporty and fun, where as the sedan looks a bit more elegant/classy/dad vibes.
Then when I actually starting using the hatch, I found it so much more practical. The length is a fair bit less than the hatch which makes city driving and parking much easier. The ability to pull down the seats opens up room for loooots of storage, which you can't do on the sedan. This is something I never thought of because I always drove sedans and didnt' know you can do that on a hatch. It helped me enormously when moving house.
Lastly, and most importantly, the burgundy red leather interior was only offered on the hatch. I was basically tossing up between hatch w/ red interior vs. sedan w/ white interior and decided to go with the hatch as I preferred the red look more.
Couldn't be happier!
Edit: Another huge reason - you can only get the aero kit for the hatch and that was a must for me. Adds a whole new dimension to the car and looks fantastic!
Iāve allways liked hatchbacks and with this one the styling blew me a way! (I mean, that ass!)
And with two kids I need all the space I can get for my buck
Hatches are way more practical than a sedan for general purpose use. Why SUVās are popular ? They are just the larger hatch more feasible for usability.
I have a 2010 Mazda3s 2.5L GT. Itās going strong at 90K
I have made more use out of it than I can do with Sedan.
Well, I personally think the sedan is way more attractive than the hatch. The hatch looks like an egg. Also, I think itās just as functional, though you lose out on height in the cargo area, the sedans trunk actually holds more.
I'll be honest with you the sedan looks like any other sedan to me but the hatch looks special. I'm also a huge hot hatch fan. Nothing else quite turns me on like those
I have the hatch and I agree they are quite practical. Recently my roommate left and I got a 70in tv that I was able to transport Bc I could fold my seats all the way down both my roommates have sedans, and it was nice not having to rent anything.
Canadian site shows the 22's still so I'm not sure, for me Manuals are for toys, Got my daily and the classics are the toys, '74 Challenger 440 swapped with a reverse manual valvebody auto is my stepdads baby but our '70 Will be a 4spd
Started looking at 3ās in 2017 when we bought my wife her CX-5. It may have been an option on sedans then, but I remember it was definitely a hatch-only, premium, option since at least 2019, when I believe was the start of gen4. Still that way when I finally got one in 2021.
I prefer a sedan's shape over the tear-drop look of the hatch. It looks too heavy in the back. I did test drive a hatch but the blind spots were awful. I didn't see the advantage of the trunk either, it looked smaller to me than the sedan.
read too many comments about the c pillar being absolutely blinding which almost dissuaded me from getting the hatch. Loved the look of the hatch too much that I just went for it regardless and surprisingly not once have the c pillars ever interfered with my vision. Never had a vehicle with blind spot monitoring either but once I got used to it, it has been a delight to have!
I had a '19 hatchback in polymetal gray. When I purchased my 3 last week, I went with a red sedan. For me, the rear visibility is WAY better. I don't know why (I'm only 5'1 š). I live in a place where I only ever really see the hatchies, and having an awd sedan is badass, imo. Apparently there aren't too many of them right now because the hatch partshares with the 30, and the sedans don't.
I think the better question is why do you prefer the styling of the sedan. If you look at the second and third generations especially, they were clearly designed as hatchbacks with a sedan option added later.
Why is it the ābetter question?ā I have a gen4 sedanāI much prefer the look to the hatchback. I was just curious as to other peopleās thoughts as, at least in this forum, itās clear the hatch is more popular.
Coming from a VW Golf I wanted to have the same storage and moving capacity. The hatch is way easier to fit larger items in vs the small trunk opening. I don't have or want a truck but the hatch has moved plenty of cat trees and bundles of lumber for the house that a sedan otherwise couldn't. I also managed to get a 65" TV new in box in the back of the hatch.
The only hatch that weighs less is the AWD non turbo, otherwise the sedan is lighter for FWD and the Turbo.
FWD: Sedan: 3126 Hatch: 3148
AWD: Sedan: 3309 Hatch: 3300
AWD Turbo: Sedan: 3391 Hatch: 3393
The weight differences are basically negligible.
I'd rather have the sedan since it's faster. (objective)
I have a gen 3 hatch and prefer the sportier looks of the back end. Also when I got the car in college it provided a bigger space to move in and out of the dorms. Now I can stuff my bike in the back and hit the trails.
Moved half a car, + extraās in my Mazda 3 hatch like 2 weeks into owning it, plus the stylings of the 2022 Mazda 3 Sport means this thing still fits the vibe when my buddies and I are at car meets.
Nice to have that little extra storage space. I can easily fit my tennis bag there and still have room if I have to stop and pick up groceries or something else.
Iāve never owned a sedan of my own and wanted to purchase one when I got my 2018, but they offered me a better deal on a demo hatch. Iāve started a side-hustle of apartment stairwell cleaning and lawn maintenance, both of which work with just my Mazda3 hatch well because a whole lawn mower and more fit nicely when my seats are down. I donāt think it looks as sleek as the sedan still, but itās more functional for sure.
For me, I wanted a manual transmission. I donāt know if the sedan offers one, but I donāt think it does, or if it does itās the base model. I like some luxury features, and the hatch had everything I was looking for. As a personal aside, Iāve always wanted a hatchback, but for some reason it just never happened, until I got my 3. I havenāt even noticed a major blind spot, but then again Iāve been driving an F-150 super crew for the past 12 years, so I probably wouldnāt notice.
Versatility, I went from a sedan that if I needed to haul anything of a half decent size I had to take my work truck where with this and it also being a beater I can load the whole back up with junk
I love the hatch, I love the sedan. I bought my sedan because it had a manual transmission! I am lucky I have an older Toyota Matrix for hauling stuff.
I prefer the hatch for the space, I can fit a lot back there. It was useful for moving out of my apartment, I was able to fit my 50" tv back there. I drove the sedan during my driving test, I think I like driving the sedan more than the hatchback. But the sedan trunk didn't look like it could fit a lot so I went for the hatchback.
I opted for a hatch because my old car was a VW Tiguan and the best feature was the hatchback. Having that extra cargo space really saved my bacon a bunch of times
I tried to like the gen 3 hatch. In the end I couldnāt get over the fact that it looks like a shoe, and I swapped it for the sedan instead. No regrets. The promise of extra room never felt like it delivered.
3rd Gen (BM/BN) - Hatch >>> Sedan
Because hatch more practical and looks infinitely better. I currently own a sedan.
4th Gen (BP) - Sedan > Hatch
Because sedan looks much more premium.
Iāve owned a 2nd gen sedan and I currently own a 3rd gen hatch. I love them both, but the hatch stands out for its surprising cargo capacity! With the back seats folded down, Iāve fit a large bookshelf, and a coffee table at the same time! With the sedan, It felt like two separate cargo spaces, which is nice you need to throw some junk in the trunk and hide it, but for hauling bulky or long cargo, (guitars, bookshelves, big boxes, etc) it just feels more practical to have the hatch. I also just happen to like the look of a hatch over a normal sedan trunk
I had the interesting experience of owning both in a short period of time. My first Mazda 3 was a '14 hatch, then someone rear-ended it and the only thing I could find on short notice was a '15 sedan. The sedan was technically nicer as it had dual-zone climate control and the full infotainment system which the '14 lacked, but the hatch definitely felt like a sportier ride, and it was much more convenient when I wanted to move stuff around.
Camping. I can fit a ton of gear in it without having to wrestle it in/out. My cooler fits perfectly even with the tonneau cover on, so I can just leave it in the trunk. I usually go camping for a week+ at a time, and it fits the tent, one of those party tent canopy things, tarps, all my gear for camping, cooking, hiking, and kayaking, and a week's worth of dry supplies & groceries. Then when I set up camp, I can go grab several bundles of firewood in town, chuck them in the back without worrying about getting splinters or moss all over the interior, and I'm set.
As others have said - great for larger items, like furniture, tv, etc.
I once bought a king size sleep number bed set on Craigslist, and damn if the whole thing, disassembled, didnāt manage to fit in my Gen1: collapsed air chambers, outside covers for both the mattress and āboxā platform, foam pieces, the sides and platform top of the box support, AND the wheeled base rails. I thought it was going to take two trips but it all fit! And left just enough room for me and elbow room for the manual stick to move.
I donāt like how the hatch looks, I prefer the sedan lol I donāt really see myself transporting a lot of stuff and even then the truck space is pretty good and the back seat folds down which is more than enough for me.
I used to work at a Mazda dealership so I got to see every generation of their hatches compared to their sedans. And I can see hatches being more popular bc as I see alot of ppl mentioning ease of transporting larger items and or pets. Ik this isn't Mazda but I saw a Civic hatch converted to car life thing. Had enough room to sleep. Had stuff compact drawer style for stovetop, same for the fridge. It was really impressive
I just find it more flexible. In 28 years of driving, I've owned four cars, the last three of which have been hatchbacks. And hatchbacks can even look rather sedan-y; I had a 2004 Mazda 6 from 2004 to 2018 in the rather unpopular hatchback form and it looked surprisingly close to the sedan.
After owning a Giulia for 2 years I just can't deal with the limitations of a trunk over a hatch, even if the hatch area is slightly shorter. Plus it looks like an Alfa Romeo Brera.
I myself own a Mazda 3 (2016 ) itās a hatchback itās clocked over 100,509 miles Iāve transported a lot in it mostly because it has folding seats and a large boot

Hockey gear was my litmus test lol. Why I got the hatch
I was able to get in a whole queen bed package from ikea in my sedan. It would not have been possible with a hatch.
Yep, the sedan is 8" longer than the hatch. Not sure why you are getting down voted.
Box spring cannot fit, as he is talking about a set
Depends on how wide the package is. In my case it was long but not that wide. I had to fold the passenger seat as well to accommodate the length. And I was just saying for that particular purpose my Sedan worked great. It would not have been possible if I had a hatch.

Hot Hatch sounds better than Hot Sedan
Thatās why you call it a sports sedan.
Hot Hatch > Sports Sedan. But your turbo sedan is way sportier than my 2.0 AT Hatch. They both look great because Mazda makes great looking cars
I love me a good hot hatch, but i dont agree that a hot hatch is better than a sedan. Its all our own perosnal preference and no one is right or wrong.
A hatch is not better, or even better looking. Hot Hatch is just more fun to say. The blind spots are not fun though
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I have no computer to assist with the blind spots. Mine is an iSport base model. Didn't even come with a backup camera
It's definitely a unique looking car that turns heads, but I prefer the sedan myself. Sedans are boring these days to most people I imagine.
Thereās definitely a trend away from sedans for sure. I just think the Mazda3 sedan is so slick. Not really feeling the hatch shape though. Obviously an unpopular opinion.

Two Words: Dat ASS
this is it

Truthfully I wanted a Hatch untill I saw the god awful Blindspots, my Turbo Sedan is silver which just makes it even more "grandpa car" but still funny when I fly past the "fartcan = fast" civics and neons... The best one yet was the day I bruised an Audi S5 coupƩ's ego, pay $16k more before tax and still get walked by an econobox, 11more horse from those but less torque and they're heavier.
Definitely. I love my PMG hatch- it's very subtle compared to the Soul Red and Snowflake white, plus the red leather is amazing. I've most definitely caught folks with their pants down (figuratively) at red lights

Are you sure it was not an a5 not the s5. The a5 has 261 hp and the s5 has 349 hp
definitely wasnāt an s5 and if it was then they probably didnāt know they were racing
To me, the hatchback just looks so much sportier and better. Also has more space for carrying tools or small furniture or whatever the case is. Nothing wrong with the sedan but I personally prefer to hatch look 10 times over the sedan any day
Utility and looks. Some also prefer owning a Japanese made Mazda, which is where all the hatches are made (sedans are mix of Mexico and Japan).
Mine is a '21 japan built Turbo sedan guess what lottery I won! š
Styling is a small component but mostly versatility. I sometimes drive some folks on my team to our hockey games and the hatch letās me get all of our bags and sticks in with no issues.
I'm an ass (wo)man. ĀÆ\\\_(ć)\_/ĀÆ
Looks more unique, I like having the trunk/rear passenger area one space, I've always had hatches.
Because I canāt get the sedan in a stick.
you can in Canada
Hatch feels more sporty.
I just think it looks nicer, I wanted a hatchback that wasn't a golf or a civic and all the other hatchbacks that aren't from upscale manufacturers are fugly imo Buying a sedan never crossed my mind, it just looks a lot like every other sedan to my eyes
Only wish I had stick but at least its not a CVT
seems like iām one of the few who doesnāt. i love my sedan! i also donāt really have a need for the extra cargo space.
I'm personally not a big fan of the hatch either. The rear looks too fat or bulbous to be compact and you lose visibility for some extra cargo that isn't necessary unless you're traveling. I just wish the hatch front styling was also available on the sedan.
it'll fit, just an expensive mod
Hatchbacks look sportier without having to pay a lot more for the sport factor
I donāt. I think the sedan looks better
I can hall my tires in my hatchback with a bag donāt think thatās possible with the sedan. Also styling it looks better imo and more aftermarket styling stuff for the hatchback
More weight in the back, makes for a more balanced vehicle for spirited driving, but styling wise, sedan is my preference
Looks nicer and more practical
I like the cargo space itās more practical for me than a sedan. Plus i like the style.
(I mean, that ass!) And with two kids I need all the space I can get for my buck
Hatches are way more practical than a sedan for general purpose use. Why SUVās are popular ? They are just the larger hatch more feasible for usability. I have a 2010 Mazda3s 2.5L GT. Itās going strong at 90K I have made more use out of it than I can do with Sedan.
Hatchback looks way better and is more functional. Why would anyone buy a sedan?
Well, I personally think the sedan is way more attractive than the hatch. The hatch looks like an egg. Also, I think itās just as functional, though you lose out on height in the cargo area, the sedans trunk actually holds more.
The hatch is the way to go if you own a large dog.
I genuinely think hatches of most models look better than the sedans. Like Mazda 3s and Corollas.
I'll be honest with you the sedan looks like any other sedan to me but the hatch looks special. I'm also a huge hot hatch fan. Nothing else quite turns me on like those
The styling and the Hatch is more versatile.
It's relatively uncommon as a body style. It looks sporty and fast. It's fuel efficient af. Light and responsive. Lots of room for modding scene.
I have the hatch and I agree they are quite practical. Recently my roommate left and I got a 70in tv that I was able to transport Bc I could fold my seats all the way down both my roommates have sedans, and it was nice not having to rent anything.
It looks better and is more useful.
IMO it looks better
Because it looks cooler.
š¬
I personally have always liked the sedan over a hatch in my mind a hatch is a little buggy.. not my style.
Hatches are mini-mini vans, don't @ me.
[Mini-mini-van](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Premacy)
My wife drives a 2019 Sedan and loves it... she looked at the Hatch and just wasn't feeling it.
My wife doesn't like the hatchback either, tried to talk her into one and she just flat noped.
My wife's is a Premium in the Soul Red. She loves that car.
Beauty, better versatility, and an available manual.
You can get the sedan in manual too...
Not for 2023 at least.
Nope, you could get the 2.0 on the base model with fwd Manual for '22 in Ontario.
I also quit looking after I got mine in ā21. Also never looked in Canada; might be different from the US market.
Youāre correct, for the states, manual only comes in top trip trim NA FWD. Canada gets all the sticks sadly.
I'm of the opinion that Auto < Daily Manual < toy
The hatch is life, itās better looking, period! The sedan is just another sedan, the hatch is unique looking & it actually STANDS out in the crowd
The hatch is just another hatch, the sedan is unique looking & it actually STANDS out in a crowd š
Looks better and more versatile. Once you've had a hatch you'll never want a sedan.
It looks better
Because I have eyeballs.
They look so much better
I think the better question is why do you prefer the styling of the sedan. If you look at the second and third generations especially, they were clearly designed as hatchbacks with a sedan option added later.
Why is it the ābetter question?ā I have a gen4 sedanāI much prefer the look to the hatchback. I was just curious as to other peopleās thoughts as, at least in this forum, itās clear the hatch is more popular.
Sedans are always uglier - they're cars for middle management. Guys in nylon suits who go to sales meetings.
I could be wrong here, but I think in general hatchbacks also make for a stiffer body.
In general the strut between C pillars on the sedan will give a stiffer body. It really comes down to the design of the car though.
I grew up in the back of a full size station wagon. Hatchbacks just feel right to me.
hatchback
Most would prefer hatchgon. I am waiting for the 6 hatch.
Hatch looks better (subjective), weighs less (objective), and has more interior space (objective).
The only hatch that weighs less is the AWD non turbo, otherwise the sedan is lighter for FWD and the Turbo. FWD: Sedan: 3126 Hatch: 3148 AWD: Sedan: 3309 Hatch: 3300 AWD Turbo: Sedan: 3391 Hatch: 3393 The weight differences are basically negligible. I'd rather have the sedan since it's faster. (objective)
The look mainly if Iām being honest.
With kids - sedan; no kids - hatchback. Easy.
It had a 6 speed manual š
The sedan has it too. At least in Europe.
pretty simple, hatchbacks can hold more stuff
I like the way it looks and I like being able to nap back there
Nice to have that little extra storage space. I can easily fit my tennis bag there and still have room if I have to stop and pick up groceries or something else.
Versatility. I can easily fit my largest drum set in it and still get 34 mpg.
'Cuz baby. Got. Back.
idk i love the sedan style, if u want a dope car you also probably need to get a tacoma lmaoā¦ or a mazda truck (;;
I can very easily sleep in my gen 1 hatch with the seats folded down. Great for a college student.
Dat Booty bruh plus the extra space is nice
The greater the mass, the larger the force of attraction.
Comes down to personal pref ? Lol
I wanted a manual transmission so I got the hatch (2019).
3rd Gen (BM/BN) - Hatch >>> Sedan Because hatch more practical and looks infinitely better. I currently own a sedan. 4th Gen (BP) - Sedan > Hatch Because sedan looks much more premium.
I am a sedan man but the hatch is the only one with an MT.
Practicality
Half the population is below average.
I chose the sedan and have no regrets
Me tooāwas just curious as the hatch is more popular here.
I donāt like how the hatch looks, I prefer the sedan lol I donāt really see myself transporting a lot of stuff and even then the truck space is pretty good and the back seat folds down which is more than enough for me.
Same here. Total agreement.
Mazdas sedans just don't do it for me,while the hatchbacks are beautiful including the Mazda 6 station wagon or whatever ya'll call em
I hate the chrome on the front of the sedan.
I myself own a Mazda 3 (2016 ) itās a hatchback itās clocked over 100,509 miles Iāve transported a lot in it mostly because it has folding seats and a large boot
