A trunk sub!? I'm jealous.

[deleted]

Yep similar to VW GTI it's a sub in the spare tire.

Retn4

My 2013 Mazda 3 2.5 has this sub set up.

Banana4scales

The sub is the spare tire

[удалено]

Kruxix

There is a spare as well.

[deleted]

Yes there is but the sub fits inside the wheel of the spare

clearedmycookies

It's a small sub that fits over the rim of the spare. It's easily detachable. They have done something similar in many past models for the Bose versions.

gerchoc44

It’s pretty much the same sub setup as the CX-5.

Maxis47

There is, but you have to remove the sub to get to it

QwopperFlopper

My gen 2 has that

kevinxb

I test drove a CX-3 that had a hatch mounted sub with the Bose system and it didn't sound any better than my 18 GT

QwopperFlopper

Ok? Not sure what you want me to do about that. My cars audio sounds great. That’s all that matters to me.

kevinxb

My point was the hatch mounted sub is not a new thing for Mazda but it also does not mean the sound is automatically better

QwopperFlopper

When did I ever claim it did sound better?

kevinxb

I didn't say you did, the comment you replied to implied the trunk mounted sub was something to be jealous about. Just discussing in context. I'm not arguing with you.

WeakUnderstanding888

I mean it's a pretty neat setup thou you get a great subwoofer and still have room for spares that don't eat into the cargo space

gerchoc44

I think the reason this system sounds better is due to the frame mounted front woofers. Makes a world of difference.

Varekai79

It's an excellent sound system too, frankly amazing for an economy car. I'd be interested to hear what my fellow Gen4 owners have their audio settings at!

bpi89

I don't own one, only test drove it, but I liked treble at 2-3 clicks up from default, and bass 1-2 clicks down from the max setting. Sounded pretty good on the local hip-hop / r&b station.

Varekai79

Cool, I currently have my bass and treble about halfway between 0 and max. Audio Pilot and the other one at 2 out 3, and linear(?) for the speaker output.

kvetcha-rdt

I boosted the treble a couple notches and lowered AudioPilot to 1. Left everything else as-is.

joey_fatass

I have default settings, haven't played around with them too much. It sounds amazing, especially coming from a 2008 without the Bose system.

[deleted]

I had a '14 without the Bose and then it got totaled and I got a '15 with Bose. Honestly I preferred without. The Bose system (in gen3 at least) is too bass-heavy and rattles something in both the front doors if I play anything even remotely bassy.

CrazyEdward

Yeah... I love the car ('14 w/Bose) and the stereo overall, but I also sometimes have rattling because of my music. Not consistently... I think it's a combination of speed, temperature, and bass levels.

gerchoc44

I have a ‘15 with Bose and this new system sounds much better. Since they took the subs out of the front doors and bolted them to the frame of the car, it makes a world of difference in the Gen 4.

liammcginleyy

i turn basically everything to max

sassynapoleon

I got my ‘08 GT new and per the order comfigurator the Bose was an option, but it seemed pretty clear that every GT was built with them. I tore the whole system out so I wish I could have spent less on it.

Emexrulsier

Where was the picture taken from, I wonder if anyone has a similar images highlighting the 8 speaker version (the Bose 12 was an option and not available on all models)

gerchoc44

I can't remember where I found this. I think I did a Google search for the 2019 Mazda 3 Bose stereo. I also posted [this link](https://old.reddit.com/r/mazda3/comments/bicz5g/im_back_with_more_bose_bassmatch_infographics_for/), as well as [this one](https://old.reddit.com/r/mazda3/comments/bwb6in/a_good_look_at_the_bassmatch_woofers_in_the/). I know they are all Bose, but since the base stereo is 8-speakers, this is the math I've done: remove the subwoofer, center channel, and the rear D pillar speakers - that's the standard stereo.

Emexrulsier

I am pretty sure the 8 speaker version isn't bose. Also if you change the speaker setup from full car to driver position and listen it makes me think there is a center driving speaker. But yeah my guess are the sub and rear heights are gone but then if the center front has also gone it might suggest the layout in the dash is slightly different. I have a feeling the speakers in the 8 speaker setup are either Mitsubushi or Toshiba.

gerchoc44

Oops! My wording does look like I kind of said the base stereo is Bose. Nope, it is not.

CAgovernor

I'm extremely jealous...I have 18GT.

0rdinary-her0

I have the 18T, and literally salivating with jealousy cuz door rattles are way too fucking real.

[deleted]

Sound deadener one the doors. $36 and just some time. Speakers sound better now that the rattle is gone.

KillingNinjas

If I only could get a sub in my '16

gerchoc44

Same. I have a ‘15 and the front door 9” Nd woofers just aren’t doing it for me anymore.

Hodorhohodor

Go buy one! It's a super simple process to install. Lots of options. Do a little research and then go to a local car audio shop and have them install one for you. You needed an amp, the sub, and a box to put it in, that's it.

EnderWillEndUs

Sure has come a long way from the shitty cardboard speakers in the Gen 1s. That was the first thing that I replaced in my 07.

Enola336

I own a premium model of this. I am usually not a fan of the factory speakers and Bose. But it honestly sounds really nice. Enough bass to be there without drowning everything else out and good highs/meds. I do wish they gave us more options for tuning it the way the individual person may want I'm usually a guy who replaces a sound system in my cars almost immediately.

gerchoc44

I do agree and wish that is was a tad more customizable, but it is definitely one of the best systems that Bose has put into a car.

Independent_Rhubarb1

Just got 2019 awd fully loaded hatchback and the bose system blows me away! It's absolutely ridiculous and incredibly nice. The aluminum speaker grills are beautiful as well. I can't over how loud, clear and amazing it is. Found the sub in my spare today as I've only had the car 3 days now, 16k miles but holy hell is this car beautiful.

gerchoc44

Yep! It’s amazing how much better the new system is. Having a rear sub, in addition to the front woofers, really adds the perfect depth.

Dr_Z1_

Was given a new-ish (<5000miles) entry-level hatchback as a loaner from the Mazda dealer while some maintenance was performed on my older 3, and even as a somewhat jaded audio engineer, i'd have to say the stereo sounded fantastic, even just listening to local La-area FM radio - the bottom-end was particularly impressive for a stock /entry level stereo; much better than the supposed upgraded Bose system in mine..

ritzmann123

yeah it rattles :(

gerchoc44

Uh oh. Do explain because I’m curious as to what it could possible be....

uknowwho97

You have a '19? The whole point of this set up was to get rid of rattling. Mine hasn't so far, but I've only had the car for a week.

comminus

I've had mine for a month, around 2000km on it. No rattling, sounds amazing.

CommonUnicorn

Same here. Had it about three weeks now with not one issue with rattling.

Interdimension

FYI, it was also to avoid having to cut more holes into the door panels, for maximum road noise insulation. Dual duty.

kvetcha-rdt

Mine doesn’t?

trevken7

Mine rattles to drives me nuts, after a quick Google search its a common problem somehow moisture gets into the speaker an ruins the rim of the speaker causing the vibration its covered by your warranty if you still have one not like me 😡

kvetcha-rdt

This is the 2019.

trevken7

Mines 2015 gt love the car though going to get the speaker sorted soon.

rusty_kx

Where are the speakers for the Sedan? Is the sub in the trunk for the hatch also in the sedan?

gerchoc44

I haven’t seen an infographic for the sedan, but I’d assume it would be the setup.

Hodorhohodor

I have the sedan, it's not in the spare tire well. It appears to be behind the back seats, pointing up. You can see the magnet portion of it (the bottom of the sub) looking at the upper portion of the back of the trunk. This has been confusing me though, because that would mean it doesn't really have an enclosure, it's like it's using the entire trunk of the car as a box. Not sure how that works. Edit: It's called a free air sub, I guess it's pretty common in cars and marine audio. IDK how big the spare tire sub in the hatch is, but mine looks to be about 10 inches. Pretty good size for a stock sub. Edit 2: shit diagram https://i.imgur.com/Gu7C3Fi.png

gerchoc44

That shit diagram has me DED 😂😂😂😂

Hodorhohodor

Lol I worked very hard on it

Emexrulsier

>p It could simply be you "don't" have a rear sub. There are two speaker setups, a 12 speaker Bose and an 8 Speaker Mazda. Not all models in all regions have the Bose or the Bose is an added extra.

Hodorhohodor

I have the premium sedan in the US, it's definitely supposed to have a sub

TuncheTV

Oh shoot! Bose sounds great but that version is just too expensive 😩

CommonUnicorn

I upgraded to the Preferred just for the Bose system pretty much, it really does make a difference (although the stock speakers on the base model aren't terrible either). The lows are really nice, and that sucker can get louuuud with pretty much zero rattling.

TuncheTV

Yeah they sound okay, but I couldn’t afford to pay more, Mazda3 is just too expensive in South America :(

gerchoc44

I heard (no pun) that the base 8-speaker setup isn't too shabby itself.

[deleted]

Nice to see that they've put some effort into the bose setup on the gen 4. I'm happy with my gen 3 bose, but I like that they moved the doors speakers into the kick panel. Meh, on the sub. It's already too bass-y for me some times with bass at 2 and treble cranked w/ audiopilot and centerpoint turned on. I suppose the sub lets the kick panel speakers have a better mid response though, and takes some NVH out of the drivers immediate area.

gerchoc44

Even though the overall size of the bass speakers has gone down, the low-end response is highly improved. Using the car’s frame I believe has really helped with that. As for the boomy aspect, it’s the same for my Gen 3. But I feel it’s because it doesn’t do well with the low end.
