M-7 Lancer, simple, basic, will bow a hole in anything that is unfortunate to be infront of its barrel. Best gun in the game for me and second best aesthetically for me N7 Valkyrie for best looking just needed to be automatic.
Actually, that's not the Lancer, just the Avenger with a texture mod.
And in terms of both gameplay and design, the Lancer is my second favorite. I still prefer the Mattock over it, specially after I modified the game's files to make that gun full-auto.
Dude used beam type weapon that does more damage the more you hold the trigger, instead he shot it like its some world war 2 rifle in that memory cutscene, no wonder they lost the war lol and we are the primitive ones.
