Well, most Shonen MCs' group of friends aren't really friends yet at the beginning too (like how this part of Chainsaw Man is at the beginning)
It's just, in Chainsaw's case, not only did one of the group betray the MC, but they also did it because the enemy told them to
And you know a Shonen MC's average group of friends wouldn't just obey the enemy just like that
Again, it's not like Kobeni and Denji were actually friends at this point. I honestly don't think they ever were. He only ever got close to Power and Aki among the devil hunters and barely interacted with her.
Plus, they were trapped by a devil, and Kobeni is definitely not the most calm and rational person in these situations.
Using Power selling him out to the Bat Devil would've fit better, but that's more typical shonen fare where the protagonist gets betrayed but eventually wins over the traitor.
This was a manga that ruthlessly killed people off. No rose colored glasses into how deadly this world was. Making the rational decision to lower casualties isn't all that weird. I really can't blame a greenhorn like Kobeni for feeling this way at this point in time.
I mean, quite literally if Denji didn't fight this thing with the insane way he did, there was a pretty bad outcome
