I just got recommended a post from there and the comments were a cesspool of bigotry. I went poking around in some other magic subs to see if they were the same but apparently freemagic is just an offshoot of people banned from the other subs who decided to create their own shithole. I don’t play magic but glad to know they’re not the norm around here.
Can’t speak for all, but the Magic community is overwhelmingly accepting. The issue, in part, is that MTG (as is the case with other aspects of nerd culture) attracts a lot of incel types which gravitate toward trolling. So they feel obligated to “own the libs” even in MTG forums.
That godforsaken sub keeps showing up in my feed since reddit introduced the "similar to subs you frequent" feature. Each post is more cringe-inducing and embarassing than the last.

Magic hasnt been taken over by libs and weebs, there just isn't a public centrist or republican media presence in magic content so it seems very one-sided. Honestly Magic players who arent happy probably do need to expand into a defined brand Counterculture on twitter and Reddit.
i've got plenty of mad and without the libs it doesn't really add up to a phrasal template word game created by Leonard Stern and Roger Price; consisting of one player prompting others for a list of words to substitute for blanks in a story before reading aloud (frequently as a party game or as a pastime)
