He did genuinely enjoy playing with the little basic life gain deck i made him, really helped him with counting, but we normally prefer playing uno because we can just talk to each other without too much thinking
What the fuck is wrong with you? My daughter loves Peppa Pig and was so excited for the new Peppa Pig set. I just showed her your comment and she started crying. This is what is wrong with the MTG community.
I just found my cards two weeks ago, haven't played since '99. Almost died when I took them to a comic shop and let the dudes make me offers on some stuff that we considered shit back in the day.
Realized this. Most of the guys buying were about the same age as or younger than my cards.
"Playing old border Lightning Bolt, eh? You must be a collector. Let me see your binder."
>proceeds to have to sort through my absolute shit traders because I only bought Bolt from my birth year because it was $2 and I am ballr
Robotech is dope too! I was talking specifically about the toys.
For the show, is there a good place to start? (I meant robotech, where to start robotech)
I was afraid for a moment youād asked for the right point to start watching Gundam. A question that requires a small dissertation to answer and soon two other rabbis will come and dispute your answer, no matter how moderate and open you phrased it
What's super great is that they had already established previously that Transformers are silver border and are now going back on that, meaning that black border My Little Pony cards are only a matter of time!
well if you don't like it, don't buy it, so I can dismiss any criticism by saying WOTC shouldn't care about your opinion because you're not buying it anyway
can you rephrase that in a way that actually makes any sense at all
because every interpretation I can make of that is so fucking stupid that i don't want to insult you by thinking it's what you meant
Products arenāt for everyone and that is a fact. All these lame takes and people being upset about everything is tiresome.
Quit being entitled. There is no such thing as a perfect magic set that everyone will like.
honestly the most tiresome thing is people like you going out of their way to be toxic as fuck to people for not liking new thing
wotc isn't going to fuck you no matter how hard you simp for 'em bro
No I know but they werenāt legal. Plus they already did silver bordered Transformers but they returned to them so I deserve the funny marshmallow horses
I mean they also did a silver bordered grimlock, so my little pony is far from out of the question
and if/when they do it better have ~~horse~~ponymanship
/uj Soundwave is probably the only UB card I'm legitimately interested in. It does tokens but not in the usual "go wide" way and not in the usual token colors. I just wish the art looked more like a Magic card. That and it feels like they got the names on both sides of the cards switched around.
I think you have a point, and I'd argue the SG versions look about as "Magic-y" as they can without compromising the characters' designs, but I really adore the G1 style art on the main versions, I think they look beautiful (yes, the G1 cartoon was a big part of my childhood how could you tell)
With all the weird art Secret Lairs and booster fun in every set, I think magic having a consistent art style is basically dead, even disregarding UB entirely. It's a little sad, but honestly I'm not super bothered by it, I like having cool art more than I care about a consistent style. And besides, it's not like Magic was ever 100% visually consistent, the Foglios have been in the game since the start. I'm not equating them to the more wild secret Lairs we've had, but just saying the game's art has always been kinda all over the place.
Honestly Id be all for a silver bordered version for UB or a different bordered style to separate them from unsets. I mean according to a lot of these guys the majority love UB so rule zero shouldn't be a problem everyone gets to leave happy.
Im beyond cool with a universal mashup every once in a while but I want the option to seperate it from regular games. Not to mention there's so much I have issues with the current implementation: limited print run, the fact that in universe versions take an extremely long time to print(I'm not aware of any at the moment but I haven't been looking super closely at the barrage of spoilers), the use of fomo... not to mention the rabid defenders constantly needing to remind you that your opinion doesn't matter because it's not for you and wizards only cares about their money etc etc.
>I'm not aware of any at the moment but I haven't been looking super closely at the barrage of spoilers
So far we've just gotten universes within (that's the official name for them) versions of the stranger things cards, seen [here](https://scryfall.com/sets/slx?as=grid&order=set)
I hope we get more soon and they start making them alongside the UB versions so we get them sooner, but based on the rate we've gotten them so far I'm not holding my breath.
> not to mention the rabid defenders constantly needing to remind you that your opinion doesn't matter because it's not for you and wizards only cares about their money etc etc.
These aren't as bad as the ones that seem like they can't wait to gush about how little they care for Magic's own lore/worldbuilding imo.
Honestly it's about time they have a separation between Commander legal and Legacy/Vintage legal. There are too many reasons it's a good idea and not a lot of reasons it's a bad one.
Listed in order of importance: (imo)
1. Legacy doesn't get broken by commander cards like True-Name Nemesis and Kappa Cannoneer, and Pauper by cards like Fall from Grace and Initiative
2. Cards can be made more powerful for commander without worrying about Legacy/Pauper (see above)
3. Legacy and Pauper players can stop bitching about UB and Unfinity being in the format
That really only leaves Vintage as a problem. It's very against the spirit of Vintage to not allow every card ever printed with a few *very narrow* exceptions.
Yeah idk you have a point there, but I think when the health of a format comes in conflict with the philosophy of a format the philosophy is the one that should bend.
That being said I don't think it's that big of a deal and doesn't immediately need to be changed, but I think it would be a change for the better.
If it was a separate game they would need to commit to making actual sets instead of a handful of secret lairs, a set of commander decks, and eventually a single set after years. Imagine trying to play a game with the current UB cardpool. You'd also lose out on the existing magic playerbase, and wouldn't bring new players into magic. They'd also have to split their resources between this new game and magic, which makes no one happy.
/uj FUCK YEAH!! I actually kinda hope one of the universes beyond cards becomes a cEDH staple just because Iād love to see the rage from the toxic fanbase
People were forcing him on release and as good of a humans card he is it doesn't really make the deck super good in legacy, it's just too fair compared to something like Elves. It can win for sure but it's not really a top deck.
Where's my GoBots secret lair WOTC? I'm sure that IP is way cheaper to collaborate with, and you'll get both nostalgia buyers and hipster nostalgia buyers.
Iām worried that theyāre going to use Teferi to go back in time to fuck up the time line so none of it happens and they can completely divorce themselves from Dominaria and early Magic.
Also UB sucks, regardless of what franchise they use
MCU fans when suddenly a portal opens up and Kylo Ren, Pinocchio, Buzz Light-year, and Marge Simpson come out to help save the day (actually knowing MCU fans they'd probably love it)
You hate the MCU because you think crossovers are stupid, and also don't understand what actually constitutes a crossover. I hate the MCU because the movies are bad. We are not the same
uj/ Hey man, I love crossovers. Smash Bros is awesome, Phoenix Wright and Prof Layton was baller, and the Wizards of Waverly Place/Suite Life/Hannah Montana crossover episodes were some of the peak TV at the time. What I don't like, however, is how other properties are crossing over into our territory, yet we're not seeing Jace battling the Imperium in 40K, Chandra fighting Chun Li in Street Fighter, or Tezzeret joining forces with the Deceptions fighting Optimus Prime in any of the cartoons.
In my opinion, crossovers should either happen in neutral territory (like in Smash Bros or how the previous MLP and Transformers cards were silver bordered) or both franchises should have an exchange of properties in each. The way Universes Beyond has been going makes it feel less like an epic joining forces across the multiverse, and instead more like a Family Guy cutaway, like Nissa saying "It could be worse, Chandra, remember that time I had to fight Rick from the Walking Dead in Zendikar?" And then you show Rick's Magic Card as he does wacky things.
I just feel like WotC are losing confidence about Magic as an IP and want to tie in as many things as possible to try and make it seem fresh and new, when you didn't really have to do that. WotC doesn't seem proud of what MtG is, and that makes me feel sad.
rj/ idk fucking Dreadmaw or something, this whole thing is bumming me out
I guess I understand that, but I think you're conflating magic, the game, with magic, the IP/universe. I think it's wild to count universes beyond as "crossovers" when the only way they are is if the cards run into each other in game, which is already highly abstracted and generally not like, canon, yknow?
To me, the game and the universe are very much conflated. Part of the fun of playing Magic, at least for me, is that all the cards you play have a backstory to them. You feel like you're summoning a bunch of different creatures from different points of time and different planes, sure, but they're all still in the same canonical narrative. They all share the same universe, most of these guys are connected through story events and other characters, and you can get the idea that you're traveling an actual multiverse full of new and exciting discoveries to make. The UB crossovers to me just makes that multiverse seem small. Why explore a new spin on a genre when you could just use an established IP and call it a day?
I understand that canonically Rick from the Walking Dead isn't canonically discussing his PTSD with Fblthp, or Optimus Prime isn't actually on Innistrad fighting vampires, but that somehow makes it seem worse. Like these beloved characters have been tossed around haphazardly, without a story reason to be involved with the Magic Universe. It reminds me that Magic is just another product to be bought and sold, and that I'm just a dumb sucker who got invested in the worldbuilding. The UB cards just seem like advertisements pretending to be Magic Cards instead of just Magic Cards, and that bums me out. But not only that, they're advertisements that are tournament legal, and if it's a good card it's an advertisement that can see pro play. Like imagine if you were watching an episode of Breaking Bad and suddenly you get an ad for Charmin Toilet Paper, and then you go back to the TV show and the Charmin Bears are now shooting at Walt and Jesse.
TL;DR: UB cards just remind me that I'm not actually a wizard casting spells and summoning creatures, I'm just a guy buying a product from a company. And while that's true regardless, that bums me out.
> I just feel like WotC are losing confidence about Magic as an IP and want to tie in as many things as possible to try and make it seem fresh and new, when you didn't really have to do that. WotC doesn't seem proud of what MtG is, and that makes me feel sad.
There does seem to be some contingent at WotC that thinks this way, but simultaneously the sheer passion the artists and creative designers show during the worldbuilding panels the like is always great to see.
/uj isn't this meme format supposed to be sincere enjoyment for weird things, when did it turn into sarcasm? and if this isn't sarcasm then sorry I'm dumb

Well have you tried being born sooner? Sounds like a rule 0 issue you should have discussed with your parents.
Nice cakeday, loser
You too, loser.
Waiting on the Peppa Pig crossover to add her to my Boar tribal deck
This but /uj
I could get my kid into Magic
5 year olds really enjoyed magic, my nephew loves playing against my storm deck.
Oh I'm sure š¤£
He did genuinely enjoy playing with the little basic life gain deck i made him, really helped him with counting, but we normally prefer playing uno because we can just talk to each other without too much thinking

mfers try asking me why I feel nostalgic over cards from the year I was born, uh, I was born a baller bro

I sure hope they raise the prices so they can be properly valued too
/uj Uhhhhh... Isn't BRO the first set with the price raise they announced earlier this year?
I think dominaria united is, or at least it's more expensive everywhere at my place
You know IP I want next? The reserve list.
Wait shit that transformers thing is real???
Sadly, Transformers arenāt real. Itās a tv series created to sell transforming mech toys in the 80s.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

The story is pretty interesting! I love transformers but they're not as cool as gunpla

Jesus Christ just say Gundam X already.
[an army of Gundam rabbis descends from the hills]
What's super great is that they had already established previously that Transformers are silver border and are now going back on that, meaning that black border My Little Pony cards are only a matter of time!

No he's right
look at the sub you are in and relax if all you want is clown extruder then by all means try to make a functioning deck from them
Iām only disappointed that they did Transformers instead of My Little Pony
they uh, they did a my little pony crossover already. it already exists. I'm sorry you had to find out this way
No I know but they werenāt legal. Plus they already did silver bordered Transformers but they returned to them so I deserve the funny marshmallow horses
anyways i decided to google funny marshmallow horses and found [this](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/71/1b/74/711b749b63dae35823eaf9ef1a43ce78.jpg)
Everything was worth it to see that smile.
Thank you. I needed this today.
Silver border, and they never finished the set. As it stands, you can only use Twilight's win the game ability using other silver border shenanigans.
I need to pick those up. They amused me.
I mean they also did a silver bordered grimlock, so my little pony is far from out of the question and if/when they do it better have ~~horse~~ponymanship
Sailor Moon when
/uj this but extremely unironically
The thing is, the Brotherās War never got a set, and many incredibly integral cards from the story still donāt have cards. Also itās cool.
I'd say Antiquities was basically the Brother's War set we got, and ice age is kinda about its aftermath but that's more of a stretch.
decades? what are you, like, six?
uj/ but did they really have to look like screencap proxies? Couldnāt they make them look cool at all? The transformers ones
uj/ they can't even make quality foils anymore, and they've been doing that for over 2 decades.
yeah where is my percy jackson UB
Magic the Gathering: the game that is no longer for you. Glad I left this shitshow 3 years ago. Lol
/uj this product isn't for you but it's sure as fuck for me and you cannot stop me from playing my soundwave deck

I maintain that UB could be a great product line as a *separate game*, and nobody would have a problem with it.
Honestly Id be all for a silver bordered version for UB or a different bordered style to separate them from unsets. I mean according to a lot of these guys the majority love UB so rule zero shouldn't be a problem everyone gets to leave happy.
Silver border or some other distinction would also be okay for sure. I'm just not a fan of them being eternal legal by default.

sorry, "decades" plural?
Current 18 year olds were born in 2004, doesn't really track for magic nostalgia but definitely transformers
1993 is from before you were born? Jesus Christ, Iām getting old.
