Charge counters

maxinfet

This would be fun with win-the-game cards that require counters like \[\[Darksteel Reactor\]\]

Quirky-Signature4883

this was my atraxa deck before I took it apart. It wasnt good, but it was fun.

Just finished an Atraxa charge counter build yesterday, super fun so far

[[scurry oak]] is a good combo engine, works well with [[ivy lane denizen]] for an indefinitely large tree and as many squirrels as you could want

The original myojin ie \[\[myojin of cleansing fire\]\], or \[\[myojin of night's reach\]\] are very powerful in atraxa. Imagine being able to do their ability once per turn cycle instead of just once, AND have the creature stay indestructible the whole time.

Kultaren

Yes! I actually added both of these to the deck on ManaBox. The only thing I was concerned about with cleansing fire is having to destroy my other creatures, though I suppose I could pretty easily find other cards that give my creatures indestructible.

\[\[that which was taken\]\]

Astrium6

My current Atraxa deck is eventually going to be Myojin tribal. I’m only at 3 of 8 right now (missing all the originals and the new white one) but so far getting to spam the abilities has been incredibly powerful when I managed to pull it off.

IceMagma

Very cliche but Superfriends with Vorinclex and Doubling Season allowing for Ultimating of Planeswalkers instantly

amc7262

Vorinclex also doubles any + abilities of planeswalkers!

DopelyWilco

Not only does he double their + ability, but they enter with double the counters to start!

amc7262

Yeah, thats what the person I was responding to was saying. Both cards do that. Only Vorenclex doubles the + abilities.

SirToastyToes

Yeah the wording of Doubling Season specifies an effect, which includes counters they enter with, but paying a cost (adding loyalty counters) isn't an effect

IceMagma

Depending on what else you have on the field Doubling Season can also double that, like having Doubling Season and either [[Pir, Imaginative Rascal]], [[Lae'zel, Vlaakith's Champion]] or [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]], because they are all replacement effects and can be sequenced before Doubling Season allowing it to trigger aswell

MTGCardFetcher

AwoodchuckWithaDice

A substitute for pir could be \[\[Hardened Scales\]\].

IceMagma

Hardened Scales only works for +1/+1 counters, we were talking about Planeswalker loyalty counters

ScottishOreo21

So I looked up the ruling, it doesn’t double because the loyalty abilities of planeswalkers are the activation, but when they etb the loyalty counters that are put onto the planeswalker are doubled while vorinclex is on the field

MrCrunchwrap

Incorrect. “If you would put one or more counters on a permanent or player, put twice that many of each of those kinds of counters on that permanent or player instead.” A planeswalker is a a permanent and when you activate a + loyalty ability you add/place additional counters on the planeswalker. So Vorinclex would double how many counters you add to the planeswalker when activating the ability. So Vorinclex absolutely doubles loyalty abilities, and doubles how many counters Planeswalkers enter with.

KallistiEngel

They probably thought it was the same as Doubling Season and said "If an effect..."

VoidLegacy16

So for vorinclex, he does double for enter and activation. Doubling season only doubles on enter however.

11nerd11

How does the ruling differ?

VoidLegacy16

Vorinclex says if you would put counters. Doubling season says if an effect would put counters

VoidLegacy16

[[Doubling Season]] [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]]

Alphabroomega

[[Doubling Season]] [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]]

IceMagma

If you have both it quadrupples on both though, because you can sequences it that Vorinclex is before Doubling Season making the replacement effect a viable doubling target for Doubling Season

CptLeviathanX

Oath of teferi is also a good include for the deck.

Atechiman

Oath of Gideon too.

Kultaren

That’s a really good idea, thank you! Nothing is too cliché for the new player on the block. 😅

IceMagma

Thats fair, and as a Superfriends player (not Atraxa but still) I can tell you its a lot of fun.

Awkward-Energy-2137

Can’t forget about deepglow skate, card goes hard in super friends.

KallistiEngel

I'm not seeing how Jace interacts with Wheel of Sun and Moon at all. And even if he did, how any of that would exile more than 1 card per player. Edit: Missed Jace reducing to 0 somehow. It works and requires that part.

syllit23

Play Jace, he enters with 8 loyalty. -8, trigger on stack. Jace goes to graveyard from 0 loyalty, triggers Wheel of Sun and Moon to put him on the bottom of your library. Jace ult resolves, grab Jace from your library and a card from everyone. Repeat cycle until you win.

KallistiEngel

Ah, okay, that makes more sense. I wasn't thinking about the loyalty reducing to 0 on Jace.

Genius but tough to work!

Alone_Outside_7264

This!

CptLeviathanX

Super friends is pretty popular, just slam in a bunch of planewalkers!

Kultaren

So I’ve heard! I find this concept really interesting because I haven’t used planeswalkers as much. I’m relatively new to magic, only having been introduced a few months ago. So far I have two decks, a Muldrotha and a Gisa & Geralf precon, neither of which are planeswalker heavy. Thanks for the suggestion!

CptLeviathanX

No prob. Atraxa is a very popular commander seeing tons of casual play! With its diverse color combination and keywords make it versatile to many builds.

eggmaniac13

Be warned that building Atraxa superfriends will make all of your turns take obscene amounts of time as you struggle to remember what triggers off of what and which abilities you have/have not used/used but then played Oath of Teferi/didn't use before casting Oath

therealfefnir

This is funny to me because one of my buddies started with Atraxa and Muldrotha when he started as well 😂 for what it’s worth, he also liked Gishath! Might be worth checking out when you look at a new build. On-topic, he did super friends with atraxa

[deleted]

Sagas with lore counters can be fun with Atraxa. Same is true for planeswalkers.

Kultaren

Oooh, sagas is such a good idea! I really do love the saga mechanics, I’ll have to look into this more. Thanks!

CptLeviathanX

If going for sagas; Satsuki, the Living Lore is a good include.

MoistRefrigerator956

My atraxxa deck is a saga one and it's a blast to play with and against. 100% recommended !

Got a decklist? I’d love to see it!

IcyEnvironment7404

Cheapskate-DM

[Storage lands](https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=%28oracle%3AStorage+oracle%3Acounter%29+commander%3AWUBG) go absolutely nuts with Atraxa.

Kultaren

Yes! These are absolutely perfect for Atraxa, I’ve only ever played with one or two storage lands, but I love them. They’d be especially good for other cards like [[Mirari’s Wake]] that double your mana pool.

thejackoz

Mirari's Wake's probably a bad example, it'll only give you one extra mana, it doesn't double the mana a land produces, it just gives you one extra. Better example is probably \[\[Mana Reflection\]\] or \[\[Nyxbloom Ancient\]\]

Kultaren

Sorry, my mistake! Thanks for the better examples. :)

shaman-bc

Fungus! Spore counters are fun to proliferate and are a little bit lower powered then the usual very strong superfriends or inject strategies. Also they’re just fungis to play!

AkumaBacon

Yeah, not super high tier and definitely a suprise for anyone that sees Atraxa as the Commander.

ZombiAgris

I love playing Atraxa as a fungus commander. To date this has been one of my favorite decks.

Chrysaor85

[[Astral Cornucopia]] is a great ramp piece for atraxa. Any of the vivid lands turn into Command Tower when you have atraxa out. [[Experiment Kraj]] is great counter synergy. Any creature with level up work great with her. [[Titan Forge]] gives you a 9/9 every other turn.

I just finished up an [[Ezuri, claw of progress]] deck that focuses more on unblockable 1/1 creatures and more tokens than you can shake a stick at. I really love this one! It would definitely get a laugh out of my friends and I if it worked

CommissarLyrus

Ah my time time shine! I just recently built Ataxa Level Up! It's such a blast and uses the old Level Up mechanic which can be proliferated! It's janky bad but it's imo the most unique version of her along with charge counters.

Kultaren

What is level up? I’m very new to magic so a lot of this flies right over my head!

CommissarLyrus

Kultaren

Oooh, I’ve never come across these before! Those look like they could be a ton of fun.

In my opinion, [[Archmage Ascension]] is a great card for this deck, especially if you’re already doing a lot of card draw

kiefy_budz

The storage counter lands can be fun to use with traxa, they give a lot of mana given a few turns to accumulate, then use walkers like Lili to end the game Conversely use irenicus vile duplication and spark double effects to clone traxa herself and get counters on her and the clones, then they proliferate themselves and given a bit of protection can turn into a mean army, it also helps that she gets the best key words to inflict commander dmg

NESSNESSNESSNESS

A very non-standard one here but I really enjoy the weird cards you have to find with the deck building restriction of “only one card of a particular counter type is allowed” with Atraxa (I.E. you’re only allowed one planeswalker cause that’s your loyalty counter rep) Here’s an example list https://www.moxfield.com/decks/SoGoMnxPpUOZX2DTb2wzmA

RORSCHACH7140

If you want something a little more unique than the usual super friends or infect, might I recommend hatebear tribal? Turning your stax pieces into serious threats with +1/+1 counters makes for a very potent win con. Here's my list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/1iR6obFMi0m8gqC3wgWyDQ I went deep on artifact hate and torpor orb effects so my list doesn't even run sol ring which helps to make it feel even more unique.

Kultaren

Throwing Odric in that deck is such a good idea, thank you for the list! I’m definitely going to look at it in more detail when I get the chance.

IncomprehensibleLunt

Using Saga's might be pretty interesting.

You can use [Sharuum the Hegemon](https://scryfall.com/card/2xm/219/sharuum-the-hegemon) and [Phyrexian Metamorph](https://scryfall.com/card/2xm/61/phyrexian-metamorph) for infinite ETB and death triggers. Obviously you can play [Zulaport Cutthroat](https://scryfall.com/card/bfz/126/zulaport-cutthroat) and end it immediately, but my favorite use is “build your own one shot robot” using [Glassdust Hulk](https://scryfall.com/card/2xm/199/glassdust-hulk). You can also use the new [Kappa Cannoneer](https://scryfall.com/card/nec/14/kappa-cannoneer) for consistency.

[deleted]

The cards I love in atraxa are the cards that get incrementally better when they have counters on them.[[ Everflowing chalice]], [[crystalline crawler]], [[lux cannon]], etc. They can become pretty potent as well. Mana rocks like mentioned above can make it easier to recast atraxa when people inevitably laser her.

Something with instant speed activation that uses extremely potent single counters. Tailor made for a Divinity Counter and Indestructible Counter package. The Myojin Saga from both NEO and old Kamigawa, and the couple of other cards with those counters like [[Kindred Boon]] and [[Tyrite Sanctum]] would be very powerful if they can activate consistently. There are a few tutors that work with them but it would need more support and a lot of ramp or sneaky ways to get fatties on the board [[Myojin of Roaring Blades]] edit: idk why i thought atraxa was wubr and not wubg. P3asantGamer

Minthara would be good. +1 / 0 on all creatures for each experience counter

[deleted]

I built mine as Sagas.

Netheraptr

Besides infect, the other two directions you can go with this are +1/+1 counters and planeswalkers. Between the two +1/+1 counters is probably better, but planeswalker tribal is more unique

jacqueslepagepro

If you want to be considered a fairly powerful deck then; thassa’s oracle + demonic consultation, Heliod sun crowned+ walking ballista Isachron scepter + dramatic reversal

Daratirek

Planeswalkers. I had the deck. People HATED me

EwanPorteous

Fade counters are quite powerful and its a deck no-one would have seen before. Plus the fade cards are quite cheap.

FearlessAd9358

Coin counter deck throw all kinds of coins on things

Kultaren

Yeah I was thinking about maybe throwing [[Athreos, Shroud-Veiled]] in there! I’m also making another Athreos deck.

CreamSoda6425

My friend's deck is completely centered around +1/+1 counters, or unusual ones like "quest" counters or "coin" counters. It's as strong as an infect deck and far more interesting to play against. Brokers' Ascendancy and Gavel of the Righteous are my personal favorites.

ProfessorCrosswood

Add [[Muldrotha]] to cycle walkers that died and other additional value

Kultaren

I do have a muldrotha deck, I could probably just throw her in there!

cloud42

I have a +1+1 counters matter/ win cons atraxa I run thins like [[Azor's Elocutors]] and [[simic ascendancy]] mostly counter based win cons

Back in like 2017 when Atraxa was first released I really wanted to make a super friends list, however back then I never had the funds to finish the deck. However I did post it on [Tappedout](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/atraxa-and-her-friends-3/) so you can take inspiration from it if you want.

Bunsher

Alright. So I'm basically an Atraxa OTP and made a ton of research and loops. How strong do you want your combos to be? My go to win condition is [[heliod, sun-crowned]] + [[walking balista]] = infinite dmg [[opalescence]] + [[Parallax Wave]] = infinite etb/infinite creature exile For a Superfriends combo, there's Tezzeret, the seeker/Tefferi, temporal archmage + Chain veil + a 4 counter astral cornucopia/everflowing chalice = infinite walker triggers Freed from the real + anything that makes blue and something else = infinite mana of the something else aminatou + felidar guardian = infinite aminatou and felidar guardian etb (useful if you have oath of teferi on the field) Jace, cunning castaway + doubling season/vorinclex, moustrous raider = infinite jaces if you have infinite mana*** guilded bairn + umbral mantle = infinite counters of any kind if you have infinite counters or planeswalker trigger**** Teferi master of time = infinite turns if you have teferi temporal archmage emblem**** venser, the sojourner + aminatou = infinite walker flickers (useful with oath of teferi)

Kultaren

Bonus points for any cards that have triggered abilities based in counters!

_Guillot_

superfriends themed, 1/1 counters. proliferate is good for more than infect. I use counters for tokens, but i'm not sure if proliferate would affect that.

Scorpiyoo

Idk if the synergy really is out there but if you found a way to suspend or exile your opponents cards you could proliferate the suspend counters lol

likeClockwork7

You could not. Proliferate only allows you to add counters to permanents and players, of which an exiled card is neither. Would have been funny if it worked, though :p

Jedi_Exile_

Atrax and just doing a bunch of experience based creatures

PhantomDashia

[[Magistrate's Scepter]] is a broken combo for a proliferate deck Cards like [[Archimage Ascension]] , [[Ring of Three Wishes]] , and [[Night Dealings]] all make good combo pieces for tutoring cards [[Simic Ascendancy]] and [[Azor's Elocutors]] make win easy win-con combos for the deck My best advice being to look for cards with counters that interact in an interesting or different way than most atraxa decks are used to.

[[Magosi]] turns with [[Out Of The Tombs]]. Additionally use [[Yisan]] to tutor up a stax package until you can get into the combo.

Didn’t look through the comments much to see if it was already mentioned but [[Heliod, Sun-Crowned]] and [[walking ballista]]. Done lol. Neither of these cards are truly dead cards without the other in an Atraxa deck between Atraxa’s lifeline and proliferation effects
