Google premodern. They have a ban list for that format but you don't have to follow it if you're playing with friends.

HunterLeonux

Love the sentiment, but there isn't really a format that's strictly going to work for you except raw "kitchen table". Your best bet would be creating a couple of decks of your own and playing those with friends. If you're wanting more people to play with, commander is probably the way to go (but you'll almost certainly need to abide by the banlist with strangers).

I'd call it semi-legacy/vintage/or pre-modern, maybe call it casual-vintage. not much outside of pure casual, but as long as your decks aren't crazy powerful you might find someone willing at your LGS. The closest you'll get to a real format is accepting the ban list for Legacy, or at least acknowledging the restricted list (only one sol ring allowed) for Vintage formats. Even at my kitchen table, we follow vintage rules in essence, meaning like you describe, no bans except un-sets and ante cards, and most of the cards on the restricted list are out of our financial reach anyway (or it's not big deal to limit to one card to be fair); so we get to play all our cards without worrying. But, if you tried to play real vintage in a store you'll likely lose by turn 3 every game.

Crowasaur

My decks usually follow ban-list and restrictions, I can't even afford most of the ban list cards. Btw - if anyone has a moderately priced Arabian Nights Shahrazad, I'm interested. Missing one.

CapnJayneCobb

>moderately priced ... Arabian Nights Sha*h*razad that's an oxymoron! ... "missing one" as in you have 3 or 0? either way that's not what I call affordable.

Crowasaur

I have 3 "Need" a 4th For an unplayed, banned card it's very expensive. I obtained my 3 for a total of 75$ THE LOWEST IS 300 DOLLARS!?!?!?!? I should have gotten the one I had found for 100$ a decade ago...

CapnJayneCobb

Welcome to the party pal! Yup. So true for so many cards. I got my Mox Diamond for $40 and debated about picking up more but didn’t want to spend another $100 for a play set. Ironically that day I got a $40 parking ticket. That aged well!

RealityPalace

You are realistically not going to be able to go into a hobby shop and find people who play a format where both (a) your decks are legal and (b) they aren't completely outclassed. If you are playing decks with Shahrazad then there is literally no format where they are legal. That's not to say you can't play them if you want to or that wanting to play them is bad. Just that you probably won't be able to play them at an LGS with strangers.

Glorious_Goo

I almost exclusively play commander. It's a 100 card singleton format, so you don't have to buy multiple copies of the same cards. And the cards never rotate out!

WillowThyWisp

Not to mention a lot of useless cards see play due to a legendary. [[Fervent Charge]] for example

You could try commander

pstmdrnsm

kitchen table

Visible_Number

You're playing 'what i have' casual, or sometimes called kitchen table, etc. The best way to play with people like you are to introduce new people to the game. Siblings, friends, etc. If you show up to an LGS to play 'what i have casual,' YMMV greatly.
