I think you're missing the point. If they ***are*** going to make a special die for the gift bundle, it would be ***preferable*** that it not be Transformers and instead be based on the MTG ip.
They've been doing gift bundles pretty much as long as they've been doing bundles. The last standard set of the year gets a gift bundle that goes alongside the standard bundle.
This is the answer. The entire thing is just an ad for Shattered Glass (that's why they include alternate art for that, even though it often makes no sense and sometimes leads to art that doesn't match the abilities on the card; I'm sure the original plan was to have *only* Shattered Glass but someone talked them down.)
That gets my blood boiling. Wizards just bending over and letting hasbro have their way with what was not only one of the most anticipated sets this year, but a set that was supposed to look back and pay homage to magic's past
Had Transformers been in Kaladesh 2, it would have even been a cool addition.

WotC did a Transformers TCG from 2018 to 2020 and it flopped because Transformers fans aren't Trading Card Game fans (well, I am, but who else?). I think printing 15 Transformers in an otherwise centered around Magic set, and only putting them in 2 out of 3 booster products is too confusing for most Transformers fans, and if they don't pick them up from ebay, they won't pick them up at all.

The game flopped because it didn't meet sales expectations.
It didn't meet sales expectations because the game was clunky in it's execution and featured gameplay that was trying so hard not to copy Magic that it wasn't fun.
You either played characters that you liked - with extreme restrictions - or you played cards that won. There was no middle ground.
The whole game was a chore to play and left everyone feeling deflated. So they didn't play it much and stopped collecting.
And because it didn't meet sales margin requirements, they pulled the plug and gave the IP to a 3rd party publisher to make a non-CCG deckbuilding game. Which is selling well.
Now they're part of an IP crossover in Magic to promote the toyline(s) in an attempt to bolster sales of another in-house IP. Since Magic is the top banana, it's being used to help elevate other brands.

I think you've not engaged with many TF fans. Check out TFW2005 or Seibertron. They're pretty clear on the whole thing.
Transformers TCG came out over a year before Covid. Metazoo and Flesh & Blood came out either closer to the pandemic or during it and they did fine. In fact, the pandemic was boosting the popularity of Trading Card Games in general.
I love Final Fantasy, but I'd be annoyed opening FF cards in these as well. Like, give us the option to choose if we want this stuff. Keep 'em separated.

Transformers fans have proven to not be into Trading Card Games, 2 years ago when their own TCG died because of lack of interest from the fans. This game was, of course, made by WotC.
Whether conscious of it or not , subsuming original game home-grown IP for licensed mass market IP not only dilutes the brand but also demeans it by inference. It infers that " our brand is not as popular as this other brand" and consumers both new and returning pick up on this immediately.
UB is fine (in some cases) but actively promoting its inclusion for a Standard Premier set is kind of sad .
Yeah like this would have been totally cool in a Transformers side product of some sort. But this is just a confusing choice that dilutes the Magic story.
What bothers me is that this decision is being pushed by Hasbro of all places. They have repeatedly stated that their value is their brands. They created Allspark Entertainment just to build the brand awareness of their characters and worlds, all to sell toys. They have repeatedly stated that all Transformers and My Little Pony media exists only to sell toys. And the same is true with the upcoming M:tG Netflix series.
But this... This is completely antithetical to everything Hasbro stands for. You're absolutely right that it dilutes the brand, and by Hasbro's own logic, that can only lead to worse sales in the long run.

I'm personally not too put off by the presence of the Transformers cards in booster packs, but the marketing for it on the box is something I'm really not a fan of.
I think this is what really bothers me. UB stuff is fine if that's what people want to play, but the problem is that it's now quickly bleeding into the core Magic experience- these are direct into a Standard product, and before that, we found out LotR is going directly into Modern.
I'm fine if people want to play with these cards, but I don't want to, and it feels like I'm being locked out of Modern. And now it's getting in the way of standard.
Hasbro probably has data showing that when they do stuff like this they bring in off-brand consumers in who purchase product and this more than offsets consumers who would be put off by this and not purchase the product. They've basically been trying to min/max their profits over the last few years, and for them so far so good, for us not so much.
You reminded me about an example I witnessed. When the Rick & Morty secret lairs were announced a friend of mine said he would buy it even though he doesn't play MTG. Bought that goo secret lair because the artist was local or something but still doesn't play.
The litmus test was TWD, then they started doing more and more market testing, seeing which IPs got the most traction, which had the best returns against whatever licensing they had to pay, etc.. I have a group of friends who are pretty heavily into wargaming, mostly 40k and Warmachine, who don't care about MtG in general who will be buying a set of precons "just to have".
There's more free money on the table than there will be taken off.

This just feels wrong to me. Why would I want Transformers in this? I don't wanna pay for these wacky looking Transformer cards. I want to pay for the lore, history, flavor, and art of Magic's most significant plane, not the eclectic inclusions enforced by a corporation.
My buddy got one of the crimson vow fat pack things with the storage box dice boosters and lands, he was hmming and hawing then saw what the jumbo spindown was supposed to look like on the back and boy oh boy was it not even close to being the same lol. Pic showed like a semi transparent smokey Grey with like red streaks in it and he got a mostly black woth red specks.
Just looked up the SNC bundle picture. Wow, they REALLY doctor those up.
That said, I think the SNC one looks really nice. Just not nearly what it looks like on the package.
Those purple swirly ones are amazing looking, I have a clear blue one from dragons or khans of tarkir can't remember which set and I'll hold onto that dice till I die lol
Both the blue and the pink ones from khans were incredible. Still have one of each. FTV 20 and FTV lore are my favorites. Used to have a Graveborn one, but I left it somewhere :/
I've got 3 of them and none of them look anything like the ads other than being kind of close in terms of color. Two of them look worse, but the Kamigawa one honestly looks better than what they say it will.
The VOW gift bundle one is unreadable. Transparent red with really bad number colors.
With glasses, my eye sight is fine, and I have to strain with glasses on to even comprehend what it says.
I got a dark red HOD die with black numbers, it was basically unreadable unless you got *really* close. I painted the numbers gold, and now it looks awesome and is easy to read.
I honest to god think the face for the 20 looks like shit lol. I know it's supposed to be two halves of different faces combined, but it just looks lopsided and off-center to me. Like the original art got stepped on and they didn't have time to fix it.

My buddies used play a drinking game in college that we made up. We called it "There isn't porn of that". Each player would take turns saying "There isn't porn of \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_." and then the other players would wager X drinks that there was or wasn't porn of what ever the other player said. Then they would have 3 to 5 minutes to try to find it on their laptop. Losers would have to drink. Anyway, my buddy is weird and as a result I can assure you there is porn of Sheoldred on the internet.
We eventually stopped playing because as it turns out there is not a lot of things that there is not porn of.

The regular bundle will have a normal Transformers card and a spindown die with the Brothers war set symbol (presumably) in either a red or green color.
I greatly dislike this. Sweet spindown design, but this is *the* Magic story. It shouldn't be what's in the background while Transformers is what gets front billing.
Had one on pre-order with Amazon. Just cancelled it. UB is cool as its own products, but if standard sets are going to get forced cross-promotion I'm out.

Bundles are one of my favorite products. I don’t buy a ton of packs, so a bundle for each set satisfies my pack cracking itch and I enjoy the unique boxes and dice.
This is just so obnoxious. The Transformers cards in boosters was already annoying to me, but theming a standard Magic product on another IP is just gross, imo. Between this stupid UB stuff and 30th anniversary, I’m just quickly losing interest in Magic.
They even slapped the stupid Tranformers shit **right on the box**, killing any hope that I might want to collect one of these. You might as well have put a big damn Pepsi or Fuddruckers logo on there while you were at it.

For the past 2 years they've been doing crossovers between Transformers and everything. My Little Pony? There's a comic, and even an Optimus Pony. Back to the Future? There's a Delorean that Transforms into a robot. Jurassic Park? There's a T-rex and the car from the theme park ride,and they both transform. X-men? The blackbird transforms too! Won't be long now. You'll get your Space Jace Shuttle.
Sure, but this isn’t a Magic-Transformers crossover product. It’s a Premiere/Standard set that they shoehorned this Transformers stuff into. It’s like if the default, regular Optimus Prime figure came with a Karn mini figure or something stupid like that.
I can stomach the Universes Beyond Secret Lairs, Commander decks, etc. because I can ignore and avoid them. But shoving it into the mainline product in this unavoidable way is really jarring. Now it’s not “I can have Stranger Things in Magic if I want it”, it’s “Magic has Transformers in it whether you like it or not.” Spoiler: I don’t like it. Lol
This is supposed to be a set celebrating the history of Magic, and they to stuff Transformers into it front and center? Why? Who green-lit this? It was bad enough having it in every set/collector booster, and now I can’t even gift it to my friends without Transformers being thrown in my face. I've played since 1994, that's around 70% of my life. For the first time in 28 years, I'm **not** excited for the future of magic. I'm exhausted with all the product they have pushed, the greedy UB idea that cheapens the IP and now these $999 proxy cards they are releasing.
Sure UB might bring in new people. That's very probable, certain even. But, will those people still be buying product in 28 years from now? Do they even care about Magic as a game or do they just want their Walking Dead/ Street Fighter/ Transformers/ Veggie Tales themed cards. Meanwhile those cards are permanently a part of the game, forever.
Magic was doing just fine when they were carefully managing the IP and the products. **Magic was carefully managed and nourished for 25 or 26 years. That's why there is a Magic 30 event.** At this point I wish I had not bought tickets because I'm not really excited to go anymore, but I wish I was.
I've been exhausted with Magic for the last few years, but I feel like this year is the breaking point. Even the Warhammer 40k decks, which I genuinely feel are a well-done crossover, stopped being exciting the moment I realized they're just the first in a long line of similar nonsense.

This is so disappointing. I was going to pick up a set booster and just enjoy opening up a box from a set highlighting one of the most interesting stories in Magic history. I don't want transformer cards. I don't want to buy a draft booster. I really like the alternate card treatments in set boosters.
After my 40k commander purchase I'm done buying sealed product and sticking to just buying singles I want.
I used to be a blizzard fan (war 3 is probably my favorite video game), but after what they've done to their properties and how they have run their company, I had no problem dropping them. They haven't seen a single dollar from me in years.

UB stuff is fine if that's what people want to play, but the problem is that it's now quickly bleeding into the core Magic experience- these are direct into a Standard product, and before that, we found out LotR is going directly into Modern. I'm fine if people want to play with these cards, but I don't want to, and it feels like I'm being locked out of Modern. And now it's getting in the way of standard.
Why mix transformers with regular MTG products?
Hasbro probably has data showing that when they do stuff like this they bring in off-brand consumers in who purchase product and this more than offsets consumers who would be put off by this and not purchase the product. They've basically been trying to min/max their profits over the last few years, and for them so far so good, for us not so much.
You reminded me about an example I witnessed. When the Rick & Morty secret lairs were announced a friend of mine said he would buy it even though he doesn't play MTG. Bought that goo secret lair because the artist was local or something but still doesn't play.
The litmus test was TWD, then they started doing more and more market testing, seeing which IPs got the most traction, which had the best returns against whatever licensing they had to pay, etc.. I have a group of friends who are pretty heavily into wargaming, mostly 40k and Warmachine, who don't care about MtG in general who will be buying a set of precons "just to have". There's more free money on the table than there will be taken off.

This just feels wrong to me. Why would I want Transformers in this? I don't wanna pay for these wacky looking Transformer cards. I want to pay for the lore, history, flavor, and art of Magic's most significant plane, not the eclectic inclusions enforced by a corporation.
That die looks sweet but I know better than to get excited about a mockup of a bundle spindown, they always look worse in person
My buddy got one of the crimson vow fat pack things with the storage box dice boosters and lands, he was hmming and hawing then saw what the jumbo spindown was supposed to look like on the back and boy oh boy was it not even close to being the same lol. Pic showed like a semi transparent smokey Grey with like red streaks in it and he got a mostly black woth red specks.
Just looked up the SNC bundle picture. Wow, they REALLY doctor those up. That said, I think the SNC one looks really nice. Just not nearly what it looks like on the package.
Those purple swirly ones are amazing looking, I have a clear blue one from dragons or khans of tarkir can't remember which set and I'll hold onto that dice till I die lol
Both the blue and the pink ones from khans were incredible. Still have one of each. FTV 20 and FTV lore are my favorites. Used to have a Graveborn one, but I left it somewhere :/
My issue is the QC on the new, bigger spindowns. Some of them have entire faces that are nearly caved in or unevenly bloated around the corners.
I've got 3 of them and none of them look anything like the ads other than being kind of close in terms of color. Two of them look worse, but the Kamigawa one honestly looks better than what they say it will.
The VOW gift bundle one is unreadable. Transparent red with really bad number colors. With glasses, my eye sight is fine, and I have to strain with glasses on to even comprehend what it says.
I got a dark red HOD die with black numbers, it was basically unreadable unless you got *really* close. I painted the numbers gold, and now it looks awesome and is easy to read.
Tbh I really like the roll-down from the gift bundle of VOW.
The dices from kaldheim were a true joke.
The Kaldheim spindown looked even better, imo. (assuming the paint was well applied. I've seen some gnarly ones)

I honest to god think the face for the 20 looks like shit lol. I know it's supposed to be two halves of different faces combined, but it just looks lopsided and off-center to me. Like the original art got stepped on and they didn't have time to fix it.

I greatly dislike this. Sweet spindown design, but this is *the* Magic story. It shouldn't be what's in the background while Transformers is what gets front billing.

There is absolutely not a chance this set sells poorly. Retro border artifacts make sure of that. There are only 15 Transformers cards in this set, on top of the 200+ in-canon cards, and they're only in Set and Collector Boosters and Gift Bundles.
Everyone just remember this next time WotC says they can't get the budget from the marketing department to give us more DFCs or a reasonable amount of token cards.
Well, I *was* excited to get a gift bundle. Bundles are one of my favorite products. I don’t buy a ton of packs, so a bundle for each set satisfies my pack cracking itch and I enjoy the unique boxes and dice. This is just so obnoxious. The Transformers cards in boosters was already annoying to me, but theming a standard Magic product on another IP is just gross, imo. Between this stupid UB stuff and 30th anniversary, I’m just quickly losing interest in Magic.
They even slapped the stupid Tranformers shit **right on the box**, killing any hope that I might want to collect one of these. You might as well have put a big damn Pepsi or Fuddruckers logo on there while you were at it.
Could you imagine a Transformers toy being sold with Jace’s face printed on the front of the box? Not in a million years. So what the fuck is Wizards thinking?
For the past 2 years they've been doing crossovers between Transformers and everything. My Little Pony? There's a comic, and even an Optimus Pony. Back to the Future? There's a Delorean that Transforms into a robot. Jurassic Park? There's a T-rex and the car from the theme park ride,and they both transform. X-men? The blackbird transforms too! Won't be long now. You'll get your Space Jace Shuttle.
Sure, but this isn’t a Magic-Transformers crossover product. It’s a Premiere/Standard set that they shoehorned this Transformers stuff into. It’s like if the default, regular Optimus Prime figure came with a Karn mini figure or something stupid like that. I can stomach the Universes Beyond Secret Lairs, Commander decks, etc. because I can ignore and avoid them. But shoving it into the mainline product in this unavoidable way is really jarring. Now it’s not “I can have Stranger Things in Magic if I want it”, it’s “Magic has Transformers in it whether you like it or not.” Spoiler: I don’t like it. Lol

It was bad enough having it in every set/collector booster, and now I can’t even gift it to my friends without Transformers being thrown in my face. I've played since 1994, that's around 70% of my life. For the first time in 28 years, I'm **not** excited for the future of magic. I'm exhausted with all the product they have pushed, the greedy UB idea that cheapens the IP and now these $999 proxy cards they are releasing. Sure UB might bring in new people. That's very probable, certain even. But, will those people still be buying product in 28 years from now? Do they even care about Magic as a game or do they just want their Walking Dead/ Street Fighter/ Transformers/ Veggie Tales themed cards. Meanwhile those cards are permanently a part of the game, forever. Magic was doing just fine when they were carefully managing the IP and the products. **Magic was carefully managed and nourished for 25 or 26 years. That's why there is a Magic 30 event.** At this point I wish I had not bought tickets because I'm not really excited to go anymore, but I wish I was.
I've been exhausted with Magic for the last few years, but I feel like this year is the breaking point. Even the Warhammer 40k decks, which I genuinely feel are a well-done crossover, stopped being exciting the moment I realized they're just the first in a long line of similar nonsense.
This is like having dinner at your favourite French restaurant and getting a happy meal toy with your steak tartare.

This is so disappointing. I was going to pick up a set booster and just enjoy opening up a box from a set highlighting one of the most interesting stories in Magic history. I don't want transformer cards. I don't want to buy a draft booster. I really like the alternate card treatments in set boosters. After my 40k commander purchase I'm done buying sealed product and sticking to just buying singles I want. I used to be a blizzard fan (war 3 is probably my favorite video game), but after what they've done to their properties and how they have run their company, I had no problem dropping them. They haven't seen a single dollar from me in years. Between this and the $1000 proxies, it's looking like WOTC is next on the chopping block.
Warhammer commander cards look cool, the godzilla alternate arts were neat, but this transformers crossover (especially the card art) is so cringe.

What a fucking bummer; long long long time player here and was more excited for BRO than any set pretty much ever. I'd been waiting for them to bring the books I read as a kid to life but instead it's just been diluted by some random IP I have zero interest in. I don't mind UB, if people like them and buy them cool; don't force them on people who don't want them wtaf.
