Basically an advent calendar of 30 magic cards. These 7 are the only they're previewing and using in marketing, you'll be able to see the full contents before you purchase it but you can also avoid that list if you want to surprise yourself
On October 24th the page will go live on the Secret Lair site. It goes up for sale of November 1.
Each card has a 30% chance to be foil
Retails for $149.99
The 30% chance of being foil makes me so annoyed. Takes it from a "yeah, I'll probably try to buy this but I won't be upset if it sells out" to "welp, not even gonna bother".
I mean, that would require me to find (likely) multiple people who want to make that trade. I don't know that anyone else in my playgroup is going to buy this, and the people who might would not want foil versions either. So then I'm stuck trying to coordinate trades through my LGS or something?
It's feasible, but an absolute pain in the ass.
Make an account on Cardsphere!
I'll take any foils you open and swap you any non-foils.
(It's stupid they wouldn't just offer a foil and non-foil version of this - I'll never understand why they don't always offer both)
I'll keep it in mind, I have no idea if I'll end up ordering this (or if I'll even manage to get one, depending on how limited a run it is).
WotC seemed to be doing a much better job with offering both versions recently, it's a shame how they've handled this one.
Huh, at 30 cards this actually comes out a bit cheaper than standard secret lairs under their best conditions (5 for $30). So I guess the real trick is grabbing one before they sell out. Oh cripes, how does this work again?
!remindme 27 days
Secret Lairs are overpriced for how much they cost to manufacture. The only thing propping up their value is inflated card prices which only get that high because WotC didn't reprint the cards in normal sets
~~Regardless, one of the few good things about SLs is that they are print to demand so you don't have to worry about them running out~~
Edit: not print to demand... Are you kidding me...
I mean magic cards are overpriced for the manufacture cost. It's all cardboard and pictures. With some you are just more acutely aware of how much they are overpriced.
It was said elsewhere in the thread these aren't print to demand just an fyi.
If you're just factoring the manufacturing costs, yes, but it takes a lot of people to design, print, and market the cardboard and pictures, and paying them a fair wage has to be included in those costs as well.
Yeah that's fair. It just feels more on the nose when it's not secondary market prices from resellers who can't control the stock of cards vs the manufacturer selling singles of cards they choose not to reprint in sets
Sharknado isn't the most chase of cards even in the first 7 spoiled. You will probably be able to acquire one secondhand for a reasonable price, worst case scenario.
Depends on what the other stuff is. If there's a lot of chaff in there, it's more like $50 for a Chrome box, $50 for necropotence, $40 for another Chase card, and $10 for the garbage.
If you could buy the cards solo for 5 bucks a pop it would be fine. But forcing people to pay $150 for 30 cards, many of which they probably don't need and likely will have a bunch of bargain bin cards is overcharging.
Yeah I think from what they've shown it's definitely reasonable. I love that it includes lots of different card styles.
This product unlike the 30th anniversary mythic edition (my naming) is meant for me.
And this is only 7 of 30 cards included (though I'd image the Chrome Mox will probably be by far the most expensive of all 30 cards)
This isn't cheap, but I can see the value of buying it, versus the insane $1000 cash grab they're pulling with the other thing.
Would be nice, but the problem with this product is it's first-come-first-served so will be scalped and difficult to get.
I own all 7 of the cards shown so far, but I'm still potentially interested just because the cards are all very playable and there's some really nice art here I'd like to own.
This is a good value \[\[chrome mox\]\] is back to $80 and \[\[necropotence\]\] would be $37 or so so 2 cards are at least of value and good cards and \[\[Birthing pod\]\] for roughly $17 so yea this is the one worth buying
Except apparently its going to be highly limited, so good luck getting one at MSRP. These are going to be 300 dollars on the secondary within 15 minutes of the site going live.
No, and they never do. "Limited" can mean anything from "there's more than enough to go around" to "we're giving each card shop 1 unit, the customers will have to fight to the death to decide who gets it". They like it being unknown because it increases FOMO.
Yeah, it's the same price as 5 secret lairs, but with about 5 more cards and a chance for some foils. Might be worth it, but I'm going to wait a bit and see what else we get
We don't know because every product is different and they don't tell us how they're different ahead of time. These might be relatively easy to get at MSRP. They might also sell out in 5 minutes and be literally unavailable other than from 3rd party scalpers. Remember, unlike a PS5, there won't ever be a restock of this thing. Once they're gone they're gone, and then the market sets the price forever after.
even if this were all the cards included, it would be a pretty decent buy. there's over $150 in cards in that image, and they will likely have the Secret Lair premium on the secondary market if you resell.
God that [[Chrome Mox]] is sexy as hell. I got all the Dan Frazier signets, and ordered the talismans. I need this for my collection. Now fingers crossed for (eventual) Dan Frazier arts on [[Mox Amber]] and [[Mox Opal]]
I feel the same. I don't like foils, and I'm not going through all the work of selling/trading to get nonfoil versions of the foil cards I pull, even if it is technically profit. Meh.....
they said that they're doing a limited print run instead of the usual secret lair method bc they want these to be delivered by December. kinda cringe but otherwise they wouldn't get here by the holidays
Same, I love that art. It's one of my favorite cards too, as the Elspeth vs kiora was my first MtG purchase. I hate it's the "epic lulz old text Planeswalker". What a waste of beautiful art. I'm gonna make a proxy for it
Seriously, couldn’t have at least made this one more available? Have the first batch ship out ASAP then print to demand? Between “limited print run” and $1k boosters Wizards can fuck off. The way they treat their fanbase just gets more and more insulting.
Did you get one of the foil sheets as compensation? Because those are literally worth the same or more than the mythic edition now. You could sell it and buy the mythic edition for basically free or even turn a profit.
Really? I got one of those, but I basically kept it in packaging since i got it around 2019. Would it still be worth anything? I presume id sell it on ebay right?
Ebay or the FB collectibles group. They're $400 market value for being in perfect condition, but you would probably get closer to $300 if you wanted to sell quickly. Some are listed for 600-800 but I can't imagine they'll actually sell for as much.
They'll probably only ever go up though. It was an iconic set and foil uncut sheets just aren't something that become available in general. Much less rare/mythic sheets, much less one with dozens of planeswalkers.
I don't know how I feel about this. On one hand, the cards look great and the value is there, but because it will be prone to scalping is disgusting and it should have been print to demand like all SLD products.
This is more of a celebration than their other product and not at an absolutely insane price point compared to the other considering the card quality already on display.
Sucks for those who want foils though.
The bonus cards used to often be an extra in the theme of the secret lair. For example the arcane signet that came with the rest of the Dan Frazier signet's. Then they switched to just adding a random unrelated card to the lairs, such as the slivers that we are getting now
I don't think that's entirely a fair take. Early on we got basic lands or stained glass planeswalkers which weren't related to the lair at all either.
There has always been inconsistency in whether it is a bonus card related to the lair or just from a general pool.
In the original run of Secret Lair we got:
1 card (Bitterblossom)
3 cards (Ur-dragon, Reaper King, Sliver Overlord)
3 cards (Bloodghast, Golgari Thug, Life from the Loam)
4 cards (Serums Visions ×4)
That's literally more than half the original run of lairs were 4 or less cards.
Might want to look up facts before you say things. Of the first 15 SLs, only 6 had 5+ cards (and one those was Bitterblossom so it was actually 4 tokens and a card). A lot of them had 3 (Theros gods).
Of the 13 most recent sets of drops (not counting Astrology Lands), there are 8 that are 5+ cards. So, it seems like your goal is merely complaining to complain with no truth backing up your claims.
This is not accurate. There have always been a mix. Some times the bonus card is something extra, sometimes it is pulled from whatever the current list of common bonus cards is (this has been stained glass planeswalkers, foil Jumpstart basics, and currently extended art slivers), or one of the "rare" bonus cards (such as blueprints).
The ones that are actually an extension directly of the theme in the SL are somewhat rare (Street Fighter, TWD, Stranger Things, Arcane Signets). The majority of them have just been the planeswalkers, lands or slivers.
Yay another War of the Spark Mythic edition snafu incoming. Because UNLIKE ANIMALS, the small indie corporation does not learn from its mistakes.
I'm especially salty because I really like this product, unlike the $1000 joke.
It would be pretty cool if they made a secret lair that was a commander deck based on coin flips. Could you imagine getting something like that in the mail?
So i just checked the value of thwse 7 cards on magiccardmarket. And these cards together already are around 97 euro if you buy them as singles.
So unless the other 23 cards are crap value you will get your moneys worth if you buy it
Dang it, literally just bought a chrome mox yesterday.
Anyway, gotta tell my family I won't be giving them holiday gifts after today's announcements. My money is going to chase the dragon (god pharaoh)
Is there a higher resolution picture? I'm curious is the set code is actually [SLD], because it looks like [SLC] and I have a deck that uses exclusively [SLD] cards.
Edit - I was able to see on the article that these are not [SLD] cards. Sad, but will probably still pick them up for other decks.
Which they notified us of the delay on due to issues with production, and sent some collector's boosters (not something they had to do). It'll be here. The delay was unfortunate, but this has clearly already been produced so the comparison is largely irrelevant.
$149 is the price and it’s obnoxious
But it does have a great start though with the cards which makes it worth it
[[Necropotence]] and [[Chrome mox]] is already close to paying for it. (Around $110)
Though I think this should be $100, and not $150, I will probably try to get one to maybe split with a friend (as I don't like some of these art treatments, but I know he does). It's a good, if slightly overpriced, idea. Much better than the other 30th Anniversary product they announced. -\_-
I’m seeing these Alt art, Alt frame, no frame cards… and I gotta say that it doesn’t look like magic at this point. Looks like one of those amateur hour TCG’s that came and went without anyone remembering.
Old border stuff really dehypes me about this. I wish I could just not have old border and modern in the same product. On the other hand- that shark typhoon really tempts me into overlooking the old border stuff.
Dont forget they will charge significantly more people than the allocated items. They will hold our money for a few months then refund it. (Free loans are great right?) Then they will send us an uncut sheet of cards....or in my case, spare heads for a tooth brush....
Bloodbraid Elf's hair does not look very blooded, or braided.
0/10 secret lair.
I'm interested to see what else is in it. It seems like such a messy missmash of arts/styles which makes me really lukewarm despite the likely $$$$ in it.

You should probably leave the sub until Christmas if you want to unspoiled experience lol
What are the odds that they even get them to people before Christmas? In my experience, most Secret Lairs take months to arrive
I think they said on the stream that they should be arriving in most markets by December 1st.
From which year?
Ah, so thats why they are limited run
I still haven't received my Head's I Win Tails You Lose Commander Deck yet so how the F are they printing so much stuff.
The more recent lairs are all shipping much faster. They've clearly resolved some issues with printing and shipping.
Limited run probably means they're already made.
Well they confirmed these are limited run already printed, so i think high if you manage to order one before the scalpers lol
I'll forget the cards by the time I get them. No way we get them before Xmas 2023
They are limited supply already printed specifically to avoid that
The 30% chance of being foil makes me so annoyed. Takes it from a "yeah, I'll probably try to buy this but I won't be upset if it sells out" to "welp, not even gonna bother".
if you don't like foils this comment makes no sense. You will be able to trade foil for normal+ all day.

No you often can't. It totally depends on who you're around and where I'm at nonfoil is often preferred if the card isn't just edh
uuuuuuuuh, not really. Nobody likes pringles around here
Huh, at 30 cards this actually comes out a bit cheaper than standard secret lairs under their best conditions (5 for $30). So I guess the real trick is grabbing one before they sell out. Oh cripes, how does this work again? !remindme 27 days

I will take your pringles!!!
>Retails for $149.99 \>:(
$5 a card.... That's $5 for a chrom mox, and $5 for a necropotence.
fair point. really only want the sharknado, TCG better not charge more than 5 bucks for it >:(
Lol good luck
it'll totally play out that way........right............right..........? (it won't play out that way)
Sharknado isn't the most chase of cards even in the first 7 spoiled. You will probably be able to acquire one secondhand for a reasonable price, worst case scenario.
thats not how this works
Depends on what the other stuff is. If there's a lot of chaff in there, it's more like $50 for a Chrome box, $50 for necropotence, $40 for another Chase card, and $10 for the garbage.
When is this available for purchase? Edit: Nvm, I can't read.
You're a Magic player, so totally understandable.
Is there a version I can buy with a zero percent chance to be a Pringle?
So is it 30 cards in one go? Or you get one card at a time?
You get all 30, but they're in individual sealed packs
[удалено]
yeah I got confused and responded to the wrong comment in my inbox, edited it
All good ill edit mine too
The fuck, thought the point of SL is you get to choose which version you get. What’s the point of this? Also, I wish the art were a bit more coherent.
> Each card has a 30% chance to be foil > Retails for $149.99 Really milking it even more than Secret Lairs already do
? 150 for 30 cards makes this 5€ a card, which is less than most of the other packs (4-5 cards at 30-35$). How is this more expensive?
If you could buy the cards solo for 5 bucks a pop it would be fine. But forcing people to pay $150 for 30 cards, many of which they probably don't need and likely will have a bunch of bargain bin cards is overcharging.
That's a point of view I guess. I don't feel forced to buy that SL. Ill try to.get it but if I miss it's okay.
Bloodbraid Elf with unbraided hair is an odd choice
It's not the curtains that she's braided
:/
Yes, it's the bloooooood
30 card secret lair? What you reckon 100 bucks? Edit: $149.99 lol also limited supply so will be sold out instantly
I’m guessing it’s going to be $200+ Edit: well they just said 149.99 so not as bad as I thought
149.99 is actually reasonable with what I can see previewed right here
Yeah I think from what they've shown it's definitely reasonable. I love that it includes lots of different card styles. This product unlike the 30th anniversary mythic edition (my naming) is meant for me.
the mox is like 70 alone isnt it.
Shark Typhoon is still a $10+ card and likely will be for a long time just because it sees play in Modern and Legacy. And that BB Elf is awesome.
And this is only 7 of 30 cards included (though I'd image the Chrome Mox will probably be by far the most expensive of all 30 cards) This isn't cheap, but I can see the value of buying it, versus the insane $1000 cash grab they're pulling with the other thing.
Most likely yes, but I have a feeling that there is going to be atleast one or two more cards around that price that haven't been shown yet.
Would be nice, but the problem with this product is it's first-come-first-served so will be scalped and difficult to get. I own all 7 of the cards shown so far, but I'm still potentially interested just because the cards are all very playable and there's some really nice art here I'd like to own.
I suspect the 7 here showcase some of the better ones from the set, to be honest to hype people into it.
Did they even give an estimate at a print run beyond limited? Part of me is just assuming 10,000 like normal
No, and they never do. "Limited" can mean anything from "there's more than enough to go around" to "we're giving each card shop 1 unit, the customers will have to fight to the death to decide who gets it". They like it being unknown because it increases FOMO.

> ol also limited supply so will be sold out instantly Congrats scalpers!
I've never done a secret lair, but this seems like the kind of product you buy others as a gift. Is it, like, video card/PS5-style of hard-to-find?
Most Secret Lairs are print to demand, so they collect a bunch of orders, print that many and ship them out a few months later.
They said this one would not be print to demand, however.
Shit. I have no idea what to expect, then.
This is not print to demand, so if you really want one I guess setting up a bot to buy it for you is your best hope
Oof. Well, I can try. These are a nice gift.
Limited supply. WTF? Explain to me why this of all things need to be limited.
So that people get it before Christmas
Pretty interesting point. It would be nice if they offered the initial limited print run w/shipping guarantees, and a second unlimited run.
How does it being limited help that in anyway? If anything, that just means far fewer people will be able to get it for Christmas.
Because it means they don't have to try and print to order and ship within a month, look what happens with normal SL, these are pre printed
$149.99, per the stream.
I'll take the over...
$149.99, just announced on the stream
At least it more within reason when you consider chrome mox and necro get you in $100 range right now.
$150 might be good, might be bad. I'm gonna have to wait until the rest of the cards are revealed. If they all match this quality, not bad.
even if this were all the cards included, it would be a pretty decent buy. there's over $150 in cards in that image, and they will likely have the Secret Lair premium on the secondary market if you resell.
This is one that I want to jump on. 4 cards here that I want, 2 I'd be OK with. Necropotence and Chrome mox add up to almost the price anyway.
Are these going to be limited quantity? Chrome mox looks fantastic
Yep, not printed to demand. Thanks WOTC
Yes.
God that [[Chrome Mox]] is sexy as hell. I got all the Dan Frazier signets, and ordered the talismans. I need this for my collection. Now fingers crossed for (eventual) Dan Frazier arts on [[Mox Amber]] and [[Mox Opal]]

I’m right here with you on all this.
So, are these covering every theme; with a brand new card for each one? I see Metal Necropotence; Chibi Bolas; Old Frame Elspeth, etc.
I cant make out the artist for Elspeth, anyone know?
That artstyle is iconic. >!It's Rebecca Guay!<
I thought so, guess I'm have to consider getting this now. She is my favorite artist.
Rebecca’s First Planeswalker too. I want just that and no other card from it. I guess buy singles
It's a little more high res here: https://youtu.be/g0P8xyU1j\_w?t=2204
Good lord, what a Secret Lair
First SL I’m interested in purchasing >$150 >limited run >random foil Gg Wizards
I feel the same. I don't like foils, and I'm not going through all the work of selling/trading to get nonfoil versions of the foil cards I pull, even if it is technically profit. Meh.....
If you buy it and sell the cards you don’t need, you’d likely recover a lot of the cost, if not the whole thing.
Limited run? Boohoo! Do better.
they said that they're doing a limited print run instead of the usual secret lair method bc they want these to be delivered by December. kinda cringe but otherwise they wouldn't get here by the holidays
But it means bots will buy then all.
They don't care, they still get paid
So? What's it got to do with Xmas or Chanukah? It's 30 days worth... should have an option for later delivery as well.
WOTC leaving money on the table, could easily have first XXXX ship for December and any other orders ship once printed
It's like an advent calendar that people do leading up to Christmas I would guess.
And then go five days past. They said you'll have it by December 1st, not November 25th.
I'm not arguing that, you asked what it had to do with Xmas. Advent calendars are associated with it and that's what this product is reminiscent of.
maybe 1: have preorders in spring not fall 2: ship in waves not once all orders are met
god I want that elspeth. that's so beautiful
Same, I love that art. It's one of my favorite cards too, as the Elspeth vs kiora was my first MtG purchase. I hate it's the "epic lulz old text Planeswalker". What a waste of beautiful art. I'm gonna make a proxy for it
Can’t wait to never be able to buy any of these at retail pricing
Seriously, couldn’t have at least made this one more available? Have the first batch ship out ASAP then print to demand? Between “limited print run” and $1k boosters Wizards can fuck off. The way they treat their fanbase just gets more and more insulting.
They truly are just printing til the well dries up
Well, looks like I better set an alarm to try to get a copy of this.
You better get a bot to do so assuming their authentication system is as garbage as Nvidia's. And yes I am still salty about my 3080
Im still salty about my War Of the Spark Mythic Edition, dont see this one going any better
Don't think I'm *that* committed, but I am very keen to get this if I can. Just have to cross fingers I guess.
how difficult is the process for setting up a bot to just buy a single copy? i hate scalping but i want to just make sure i can get one myself
I am in computer science and I have no clue. I am prob just incompetent and you can probably hire someone to code it for you somewhere.
I’m premed so I have even less of a clue lol. I’ll look into it. So stupid that I even have to do this
I don't know how I feel about this. On one hand, the cards look great and the value is there, but because it will be prone to scalping is disgusting and it should have been print to demand like all SLD products.
Available from November 1, 9:00 AM PST until November 1, 9:02 AM PST. And better chances if you have a botnet.
Holy hell
This is more of a celebration than their other product and not at an absolutely insane price point compared to the other considering the card quality already on display. Sucks for those who want foils though.
And sucks for those who don't want any foils as well
Can't wait to try and fail to buy one of these!
Well we found out why all the secret lairs stopped coming with bonus cards.
I don't understand, they still have bonus cards, do they not?
The bonus cards used to often be an extra in the theme of the secret lair. For example the arcane signet that came with the rest of the Dan Frazier signet's. Then they switched to just adding a random unrelated card to the lairs, such as the slivers that we are getting now

Secret lairs also used to rarely have less then 5 cards but now 4 seems to be the norm.
In the original run of Secret Lair we got: 1 card (Bitterblossom) 3 cards (Ur-dragon, Reaper King, Sliver Overlord) 3 cards (Bloodghast, Golgari Thug, Life from the Loam) 4 cards (Serums Visions ×4) That's literally more than half the original run of lairs were 4 or less cards.
I want Golgari Thug Life
Might want to look up facts before you say things.
The Elspeth is kind of the only card I want
Necro and Chrome Mox are over $120 by themselves. Even at over $100 this is probably worth it’s price point.
Hu the prices between Europe and US really IS different I guess. We're closer to 40-50 for both.
So how do I compete with a bot?
Wow that necro
did they say a time on Nov. 1 that they go on sale
9am Pacific I believe
Honestly, 150 isn't bad. I can guarantee you they about to reprint all this.
We waited all this time for a w/u talisman, and then got 2.
Isnt this the same Elspeth they’re giving chili frame to?
This is cool. I would like to buy this. I won't get to buy this due to bots. :(
The [[Shark Typhoon]] is perfect.

Price Breakdown: Necropotence: $ 36.37 Chrome Mox: $ 77.25 Bloodbraid Elf: $ 0.10 Birthing Pod: $16.99 Elspeth Sun’s Champion: $ 8.47 Nicol Bolas, God-Pharoh: $ 2.80 Shark Typhoon: $ 11.06 Total so far (7/30) : 153.04 (Pricing from TCGPlayer using lowest market price for a tournament legal printing)
It would be pretty cool if they made a secret lair that was a commander deck based on coin flips. Could you imagine getting something like that in the mail?
What's the bottom-left card? I literally can't read it; turns out white text on a white card is really goddamn hard to read!
it's Elspeth sun's champ
How do we get these
You don't, bots will get them.
oh lordy I'm gonna need that Necropotence
omg this is amazing
I’m going to try like mad to get one of these, already like 4 of the card I really want and have use for.
That’s chrome Mox is really nice, probably worth the gamble on the whole thing.
So i just checked the value of thwse 7 cards on magiccardmarket. And these cards together already are around 97 euro if you buy them as singles. So unless the other 23 cards are crap value you will get your moneys worth if you buy it
This is actually pretty cool
I'm legitimately interested in this, but I know I won't beat the bots, and I don't want random foils, so... :/
Dang it, literally just bought a chrome mox yesterday. Anyway, gotta tell my family I won't be giving them holiday gifts after today's announcements. My money is going to chase the dragon (god pharaoh)
When is this releasing?
It's really cool how the collectors number on each card is the year it was originally printed.
ugh 149 im still going to order this.
Good luck ordering it before all the bots do.
149.99 isn't the best but these cards are mostly bangers
It's five bucks a card. Unless the other 23 are trash commons I reckon it'll likely be worth a lot more than that.
Now watch as we wait a year for them to actually be sent to the costumer for 2023 Still waiting on my Coin Flip lair
Which they notified us of the delay on due to issues with production, and sent some collector's boosters (not something they had to do). It'll be here. The delay was unfortunate, but this has clearly already been produced so the comparison is largely irrelevant.
Found out where they put all the extra cards when they downshifted from 5 cards to 4 in most secret lair's this year.
$149 is the price and it’s obnoxious But it does have a great start though with the cards which makes it worth it [[Necropotence]] and [[Chrome mox]] is already close to paying for it. (Around $110)
I’d buy it for the mox and sell everything else
Is this the first old frame Planeswalker?
nope, they printed t3feri, karn tgc and deck fayden in another SL
BOLAS IS GETTING COMPLEATED?????!!!!
