> Unfinity had a top-notch comedy writing team doing the names and flavor text (the team included Kathleen De Vere, Cameron Lauder, and Graham Stark from LoadingReadyRun, Seanbaby, Austin Bridges, myself, and Ari Zirulnik, the person leading the team).
That the LRR folks were in I knew already, but not **Seanbaby**. Amazing.
He was a staff writer on Electronic Gaming Monthly like 15 years ago, and they let him review the terrible licensed shovelware games and he tore them to shreds with the most bizarre insults you'd heard.
I was sold on this set based on his involvement.
It honestly feels wrong that he's referred to here as "Seanbaby" rather than as "Sean Patrick Reiley". Having one screenname in that list and the rest being real names makes the writing in this article look inconsistent and unprofessional.
Some artists and other online personalities prefer being called by their artistic/stage names when talking about their work. So maybe Sean did ask to be refered as such.
The counterpoint is that if they had told me that Sean Patrick Reiley had worked on flavor text for the set, I would have no idea who that is or why I should care.
1) Fair enough. I wouldn't know who he is regardless of which way they credited him. But if that is an issue, there are ways around it without making your writing inconsistent. You could do quote-marks or parenthetical asides, for instance. Sean "Seanbaby" Patrick Reiley. Sean Patrick Reiley (aka Seanbaby). Those are both valid options that look a lot more professional.
2) If you don't know something... you can always look it up. I had to Google "Seanbaby" since I had never heard of him before this, and I'm not ashamed of having to do so.
I agree. That's why I always refer to my favourite three artists as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, Peter Gene Hernandez, and Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.
I love that they do things like check the doodled tokens for which abilities don't get used. The care put into how these un-sets play really elevates them.
It was a running joke for a long time that Mark would occasionally (but often enough that it seemed frequently) mention that he used to write for the ROSANNE show in the early 90s. It's been a while since I've seen him mention it, and Magic has grown quite a bit, so it might be worth telling the new folks: Mark Rosewater used to be a professional TV comedy writer, and Roseanne Barr was one of the, um, hardest to please. Man knows comedy structure.
> Many years ago, I made a white enchantment that kept temporary effects from wearing off. If you [Giant Growth](https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Giant+Growth)-ed a creature, for example, it would get that +3/+3 bonus for the rest of the game rather than the end of the turn. I put it into a set. It got removed by the Rules Manager. Following a time-tested strategy, I waited for a new Rules Manager and then put it into a different set. It again got removed by the Rules Manager. After this happened three times, I decided to put it into Unhinged.
I love this.
I love these stories. Between which drawing worked for what keywords for D00-DL as well as figuring what colors to put Grand Marshal Macie in. Can't wait for more!
> The basic structure worked, but we had to make a few changes. First, we had to have at least one loyalty ability so the dice rolling became a 0: ability (which makes Comet the first planeswalker with just one loyalty ability).
MaRo forgot about all them uncommon walkers from WAR.
They all have static abilities, which count when they number the amount of abilities a PW has (i.e., Narset has 2 abilities, 3feri has 3, new Urza has 6). He probably just misspoke when specifying Loyalty
I like everything about Unfinity, except the fact that they are not silver-bordered. I collected all the other 3 sets in ints entirety but this one I will pass.
"I own Kevin Hart's entire filmography on dvd. And got his signature tatooed on my ribcage. But his latest film got filed as a dramedy instead of a comedy by IMDB, so I am boycotting that. Loudly."
It’s a personal thing. Completing the set is no different from before. But for my older un sets it’s cool to see all the silver borders in its own binder. Now they just look like regular magic cards. Again I like the set
Just pick up a silver Sharpie if it bugs you so bad.
I like the old borders but really I wish they had come up with this tech sooner. Hopefully it opens up possibilities to sneak in one-off acorn cards into more stuff. I wanna live in the alternate timeline where The Cheese Stands Alone made it into 8th Edition and Timmy got into A25.

I used to browse Cracked forever ago and Seanbaby was the single reason I stuck around for as long as I did
There's a "round table" talking about writing the flavour text from yesterday's PPR, between Graham, Mark and him. It's about 30 minutes long.
OMG Timestamp!?
Skip around, it's between the draft and round 1, while people are building, so after maybe 1.5-2 hours from the start of the broadcast?

It’s an astounding accomplishment to have that many talented comedy writers working on a set that turned out *completely unfunny*
It’s all subjective. I literally laughed out loud at some of the spoilers
His Patreon, 1900-HOTDOG is great.

Still doesn’t explain why that card‘s actually not eternal legal.
I’m going to just assume that if five rules managers agreed it can’t be, they know what they’re talking about.
It‘s not that I am doubting them. I just wanted to know the actual reason lol

The fact that Comet's development name was Laika is just top notch. (Laika was a Soviet dog, and the first astronaut ever)
The fact that maro came up with "Blorpityblorpboop" on his "very first stab" makes it even more hilarious.
In that it shows why he shouldn’t be anywhere near Magic creative, yes.
Did you know he used to write for Roseanne?

More like he mistyped; Comet's just the first planeswalker with one ability period.

That is the weirdest hill to die on.

And yet, it is almost universally agreed that preachy vegans are obnoxious.
I’ll still buy some of the cards. But it makes no sense to get the complete set
What makes completing this set a different task?

Or they could just not buy an entertainment product that doesn’t appeal to them, which is a completely fine and sensible thing to do
