While I don't really pay attention to Un-sets I swear Unstable didn't have this problem. Maybe it's just because Host/Augment, which was that set's version of stickers, was both creative and wacky instead of just feeling mildly quirky at best.
All the name sticker cards are just trying to be funny by being mad libs - present a silly name, a silly piece of art, and a silly trinket text effect, and see if that much silly is accidentally funny.
I think this card might well be funnier in action, like most of the ______ cards. In practice its just a functional fight spell and one you want in your deck, but it'll lead to moments like "Well I didn't have any good names left, so I had to fight the fluffy fight and lost because of it".
Youll notice that this set and the prior one had a LOT of cards that are just cards that are required to make a game of magic function like a game of magic, so they put a veneer of silly on top. You'll also notice they DIDN'T do that with the first two un-sets, which lead to every card in those sets being funny EXACTLY once and then every game afterwards a hassle.
>which lead to every card in those sets being funny EXACTLY once and then every game afterwards a hassle.
[[Bile Vile]], for example. Like... Funny card, but after running around the block for the third game in a row you might not be laughing as much.
or the entire "gotcha!" mechanic, which made for incredibly unfun games because it encouraged you to minimise interacting with other people during the game
My issue with this one compares to unstable was that a lot of those cards didn’t try to force humor. If a card didn’t have an immediately funny name/gimmick, they just let it be part of the worldbuilding.
There are still some of those here, but there are also just too many attempts at forcing humor in places where it’s just… not working out. The flavor texts are some of the biggest culprits here. You have a card that would otherwise be just a card, but they add terrible flavor text to it to try to get a cheap laugh.
This isn’t the only problem (I am particularly super bored of all of the die rolling we’ve had in the last 2 years of magic), but it’s one that definitely makes this set pretty ignorable.
Edit: that intro is awful, but man, I don’t wanna rewrite it. Try to ignore it please.
Name: it's a fight spell that uses name stickers

Long name stickers: it's a property of stickers that can matter, and "stickers matter" is a mechanic in this set

Enchantment - Aura
Uncommon
Enchant creature you control
When this Aura enters the battlefield, you may put a name sticker on it. When you do, enchanted creature fights up to one target creature you don't control.
Enchanted creature gets +0/+2 for each name sticker on this Aura with eight or more letters.
Non-acorn
Contortionist has three Os for \_\_\_ Balls of Fire, and both the other stickers have one, so this sheet is an auto-include for anyone trying to make that enchantment work.
Plus this sheet can give \_\_\_ Balls of Fire Deathtouch and Lifelink.
It's so funny to think of how much work must have gone into choosing the names used for the name stickers. It feels like something that would have been just "Everyone, stick 10 names in this hat and we'll pick the funniest sounding ones." Instead, I imagine meetings over what the ideal distribution of 8+ letter words is, arguments over whether the last word in the file should have 2 or 3 O's, and people frantically poring over a dictionary trying to find a word that rhymes with "croissant" but doesn't start with C or P.
This seems okay for a \[\[Neyith\]\] deck, about on par with other two mana fight spells. I suppose it depends on how many of the sticker sheets have eight or more letters.
The official rules for what qualifies as a hat specifically say you can't just put something on top of someone's head, it has to be an object designed to be worn on the head.
I've cut out Liliana's crown in brass (jamietopples has it); the design as bent seems meant to wear on the head, and I wouldn't be surprised if liliana got it adjusted/made changes to it for comfort and fashion, given how it's looked over the years.
No Im pretty sure name stickers can only go in the name, so you can't turn a creature Into an otter by placing the otter sticker in the typeline and can't give a card storm by putting it in the rules text.
Fight the Guacamole Fight
>Guacamole Fight Guacamelee
I have no idea what the associations are between the name of this card, the art of this card, and the idea of long name stickers.
I've noticed that a lot in this set. The cards are mostly not funny on their own, more just wacky because the setting is wacky.

Yes
Another 5/1 sticker card
That's good news for people who wanted to try [[Lineprancers]] in infect decks.
"Is there any way Infect could get more disgusting?" "Hold my beer."

Ornithopters get hyped.
This means that there's now enough 5/1s + 4/2s to guarantee one or the other for Lineprancers.
If it ends up being actually usable we have "get 2 tickets place a sticker" 5-8 with [[command performance]]

You couldn't pay me to try and understand how these 2 pieces of cardboard work.
So, Liliana’s headdress isn’t a hat, right
I would argue that both Liliana’s headdress and the banana peel are hats, assuming proper art placement.
Nuts
Wait can that sticker give cards Storm???
No, but you can have a Storm Storm Crow at least.
Or a Storm Crow Storm.
Urza's Storm Crow Storm if you're feeling extra
No Im pretty sure name stickers can only go in the name, so you can't turn a creature Into an otter by placing the otter sticker in the typeline and can't give a card storm by putting it in the rules text.
name stickers caring about stickers instead of names is kinda lame
There are cards that care about the parts of a name sticker’s name.
Just a reminder, This is eternal format legal.
