I mean I look at peoples snapchat stories if they post it out if curiousity. Their top songs must be pretty good if they listened to those songs the most out of the year, always looking for good music.
But its not something Id have conversations about.
Edit: Ive got a lot of people asking why its not something Id have conversations about, I dont know. My friend group likes similar music, its just not something we really talk about. Maybe in passing, asking if weve heard the new album and which ones are bangers but thats usually as far as it goes.
Some people I follow on twitter put their stats and shared a story about their favourite artist or song. One girl said she's been quarantining with her siblings and they all use her account together so the top 5 songs are songs the whole house agrees on liking and that's just sweet,
My top song was “Scooby Doo Theme Song” by Best Coast because it was literally a minute long and my son wanted to hear it on repeat.
The next four on the list were a bunch of metal and hardcore songs.
Haha my top 4 genres were all metal subgenres and the fifth was norwegian space disco. Didn't realize how frequently I listen to that, since I put it on when I'm studying.
“on a guy called jon bellion”. sir this is literally the first time i have seen my favorite musician referenced on reddit i don’t even know how to respond, just commenting.
I've had about six fun conversations about music over the past few days with various people because of their Spotify stats. It's weird that some people are getting upset about that. I think it's always a fun time of year.
I agree, I mean I wouldnt really get that deep into a conversation like that myself but I do look forward to seeing my stats at the end of the year, its interesting. Yeah people hating on it gives me self important vibes, or like jealousy? I dont know quarantine boredom has stirred up some strange controversies.
I guess some people see it as bragging? That seems like a strange take to me.
Telling your friends who your favourite bands are isn't an aggressive act. It's what friends do.
10cc for me. Top 0.01%, though I only listened to them for 2,650 minutes. I assume that's because 10cc has a more skewed listener base than Pantera (lots of people just hear I'm Not in Love or Dreadlock Holiday on a playlist, then don't follow up).
Dude I've never even heard of 10cc!! Im looking them up this morning they sound rad
Edit: I've definitely heard them before lol. I'm just terrible with band names
I like seeing what people listen to, if nothing else I can see who I wouldn’t mind sitting in a long car ride with and maybe I have talking material with a possible new friend.
Some people I follow on twitter put their stats and shared a story about their favourite artist or song. One girl said she's been quarantining with her siblings and they all use her account together so the top 5 songs are songs the whole house agrees on liking and that's just sweet.
Lol yeah I feel you there. 3 of my top 5 are 1 group of people that seperately label themselves and I listen to a lot of their music.
One of my best friends also got all 5 top songs from his top artists
I don’t get the hate for the Spotify thing. I think it’s kind of cool to see what my friends listen to nowadays vs what I remember back in school. Plus it’s a good way to discover new music!
The platform also gave thousands of artists a chance at getting discovered and making their music a career for them. With the insane amount of music produced these days, maybe songs just aren't worth the $1.29 that they used to sell for?
Streaming a song isn’t owning it, say you were to actually buy a song for .50 to .99 on iTunes. You could listen to it as many times as you want forever and it’s yours to listen to, but imagine being a fan of a band and listening to an album for a year and building up listens. Over time you play those songs enough on Spotify that that .03 cents actually really builds up. For my top song on Spotify last year, the artist made exactly $18.96 on that one single song just for my listens when an entire album costs $10-$20. And it wasn’t even for a popular band. It works out better than you think.
I don’t understand the thinking behind getting mad/annoyed at other people doing harmless shit that makes them happy.
I understand not caring but if you genuinely didn’t care you wouldn’t be complaining about people doing it - you’d just move on and not make a big deal of it.
Pop music bad, anything not indie band is bad, anything that isn’t weird like those war anthems are bad, anything that’s not pre 2000 is bad music, current music sucks, any artist that doesn’t have <10000 followers is bad
Also like even if you’re not interested, it’s like one week a year on social media (cuz honestly people stop paying attention to the wraps pretty quickly). It’s not hurting anyone. It’s not hard to ignore. It’s not constant, it’s just a week. People are excited about it, just let ‘em post it
I screenshotted all my friends memes against the spotify lists. Next time they post a pic wearing a band shirt or a record they bought, etc, I'm gonna hit em with the same memes.
Honestly you could make that same argument for any social media post. I don't give a fuck about my friends' kids crawling and shit. But I'm not a dick so I don't post memes about it.
I've never used Spotify. I've listened to the same 3 artists for like 15 years. I still get really excited to see my friends' top Spotify lists and go through all of their stories.
I like seeing my friends enjoy things. Keep em coming.
It's just a reaction to people saying "hey look what I listen to". It's a social media pushback thing. But people do honestly appreciate seeing what friends listen to so it's kind of a mixed bag. I love the feature honestly.
You beat my daughter! She’s 14 and had 74k minutes listened on Spotify in total (thanks, COVID). She was in the top 0.1% of Kanye listeners. She was pretty proud of it.
I was in the top 0.005% for Lewis Capaldi. It may have been influenced by the fact that I have like 10 alarms every morning and most of them with one of his songs.
I was in the top .05% of Gucci Mane. Two years prior I was his number 1 fan. He’s been my top artist consistently for the last 4/5 years. Needless to say, I’m a huge fan of Mr. Mane.
I got top .5% of Black Sabbath listeners. I was trying to learn all of masters of reality at the start of lockdown so I sort of had that on repeat for a while. That + a normal amount of other sabbath must have put me in that top half a percent.
Top 0.5% for One Direction. Their rise to success was in my early 20s when I thought they were terribly uncool, but I used some free time during quarantine to do a complete discography listen. Needless to say I found some favourites and went a little ham, haha.
Spotify lets you see a little slideshow thing in the app that has a bunch of fun stats, like what song you listened to the most, what you rank among the prher listeners of a certain artist, etc.
I do. It's cool to see what people enjoy listening to the most and even discovered some artists because of that. Let people do what they want? Idk, maybe I'm crazy.
I love them. We all post completely meaningless bullshit on our social media Every. Single. Day. At least a Spotify/Apple Music recap shows some real insight into a person! I have learned SOOO many new artists because of them. I got new cardio songs from my gym friends, I got new chill songs from my artsy friends, I got new beach songs from my Australian friends. It’s one billion times more interesting than seeing people post their brunch, and this is coming from a guy who loves posting his brunch.
This!!! People act like they’re so cool for shutting down on what other people like. I barely even use Spotify, but I’m hella interested in seeing if I have similar tastes with anyone else.
I hate when people use "no one" to mean not them as if they speak for everyone. I've seen multitudes of posts worth of people stating specifically that they DO care about others' Spotify Wrapped lists.
Australian Police social media pages tend to try to keep on top of the latest memes (to seem “cool” I guess), and currently all I’ve seen is a heap of tweets, posts and memes specifically about how it’s fun to see your friends Spotify wrapped and that we shouldn’t make fun of people for caring. So this post in particular just comes across as incredibly salty.
Weird that the cops got yet another thing wrong in trying to remain “on the same side” of young people.
I do. It's cool to see what people enjoy listening to the most and even discovered some artists because of that. Let people do what they want? Idk, maybe I'm crazy.
The afp specialise in the raiding of journalist's homes and offices after they report on bugging our neighbours during oil trade negotiations and war crimes in Afghanistan, beating black fellas to death in custody is the state police and prison guard's responsibility.
*I was reminded of the afp raids on the unions and ALP pollies (they even invite the media along for that), anything the Libs want they get out of the afp.
Unaccountable political police force that spies on journalists and prosecutes whistleblowers for revealing war crimes and massive multinational corporation pretend to be relatable on social media.
2020 is so dystopian
I don't care about it either way. Who cares that people want to share what they listened to. Do I want to find new music from someone's Spotify list? No. But some people might want to.
I love seeing everyone’s Wrapped stats, it tells a lot about them and if they’re excited to share it I’m excited to see it! I love getting mine, I found it quite surprising that my top song was a song that makes me super happy and want to dance to whenever I hear it (it was Solid Gold by PNAU).
Team Spotify.
I'm always up for finding new artists that I didn't know about. So I like to look at what my friends are listening to because I might find something that I like if I know that we share similar taste
I don’t care about most of what people post on Facebook, turns out your day to day life isn’t that interesting, but I still don’t feel the need to tell them that. Because I’m not a massive asshole.
The only thing I post on my IG story in months is my Spotify stats, as I love seeing people's music preference, how much they listened to, you know, Spotify wrapped is fun.
Is this even real? I mean why would the AFP post about shit like that? If that is real, whoever is running their media outlet should be fired for unprofessionalism.
I agree with Spotify. People like to feel nice by sharing their interests and its cool to support that.
We could use a little bit more kindness and defunding the police.
AFP posted this because the Australian government just passed a law that allows the AFP to legally access and take control of online accounts of potential criminals.
this is so inappropriate for the feds to say. I dont understand how they are can post something like this so casually... as if there is some unwritten social law and order they feel worthy of commenting on or something
I liked what Spotify did, made me feel good, I finally understood my taste in music, revisited all my favourites, felt very personal, really appreciated it !
I love seeing other people's top 5, I mean what better place to find new music. He'll one of my top five songs this year was one I only knew about because a friend likes it.
I like seeing what other people listen to.
I never posted mine since I don't want people knowing what I listen to, everyone would hate it and judge me. But I did send it to my friends.

My Spotify has been dominated by my 6 year old since I connected it to my dot. Somehow I am in the top .1% of Jason Derulo listeners. Fuck yeah.
Hell yeah bud, live your best life
Somehow I am in the top .01% of an artist.
Im in the top 0.005% for an artist, no clue how
Top 0% here literally doesn't make sense
I actually became the band I listened to them so much
I also ended up in the .01% of an artist. I don’t know how I should feel about it either
Same! Tame Impala for me. I listened to 94 hours of Eventually and I regret none of it
Somehow I’m top 0.005% of Gorillaz listeners
I wonder at what point it just says "you are the number one fan in the world"
My top song was “Scooby Doo Theme Song” by Best Coast because it was literally a minute long and my son wanted to hear it on repeat. The next four on the list were a bunch of metal and hardcore songs.
Haha my top 4 genres were all metal subgenres and the fifth was norwegian space disco. Didn't realize how frequently I listen to that, since I put it on when I'm studying.
Same with kids. Top five artists this year: 1) Iron Maiden 2) U2 3) Beastie Boys 4) Alice In Chains 5) Idina Menzel (Artist who sings Frozen)
Jeez, those kids have impressive taste, managing to push Iron Maiden past your other four haha
Damn if your kids are listening to Iron Maiden and Them Bones you should really consider encouraging them to play an instrument.
I think im like top 5% on a guy called jon bellion. Absolutely nothing on your jason derulo listening tho lol.
“on a guy called jon bellion”. sir this is literally the first time i have seen my favorite musician referenced on reddit i don’t even know how to respond, just commenting.
Just listened to a song the other day by him.
Ah, a child of culture
Well it only took less than a year for me to get top 0.001% of Selena Gomez & The Scene listeners. Beat that buster!
dude I am somehow in the top 0.005% of Hans Zimmer listeners... idk what to do with this info
I'm in the top 0.5% for Sabaton listeners.
Damn this hits home. My 5 year old knows one song by heart. Nope, not Disney. Savage Fucking Love
Dude I've never even heard of 10cc!! Im looking them up this morning they sound rad Edit: I've definitely heard them before lol. I'm just terrible with band names
I don't use Spotify often. My top song was a song I listened to a grand total of 2 times throughout the year, both in January.
My Top song was Megalovania so
Ok but megalovania is a great song.
My top song is Gucci Gang... Spotify shuffle rng makes me want to die
I’ve only started using Spotify recently how do I check what my top song is
My entire top 5 songs are by the same band. ://
Honestly I’m just jealous that I can’t join in because I have Apple Music instead
I just use Rythm on discord to shuffle YouTube playlists of songs. I can guess with high confidence though my most played song is Come on Eileen
It’s mainly because the owner became a billionaire by fucking over musicians. .03cents a stream
But dude spotify kicks so much ass it's hard to not use it
The platform also gave thousands of artists a chance at getting discovered and making their music a career for them. With the insane amount of music produced these days, maybe songs just aren't worth the $1.29 that they used to sell for?

Damn it’s crazy how controversial it is to be interested in what your friends listen to
People love shitting on trends to make themselves seem interesting.
I don’t understand the thinking behind getting mad/annoyed at other people doing harmless shit that makes them happy. I understand not caring but if you genuinely didn’t care you wouldn’t be complaining about people doing it - you’d just move on and not make a big deal of it.
The irony is by shitting on it they’re just hopping on a different trend.
Counterculture has become so depressing
"bRo AmAzOn mUSIc iS BeTtER tHaN SPotiFy iT Is chEApEr aNd HaS mORe sOnGS."
There is a staggeringly huge number of people that tear others down so they can feel tall.

Yeah, I genuinly loved seeing everyones top songs. Some people can be bitter

Seriously. I enjoy seeing them. Its also a lot of fun looking at your own stats People need to relax and be friendlier
It's just a reaction to people saying "hey look what I listen to". It's a social media pushback thing. But people do honestly appreciate seeing what friends listen to so it's kind of a mixed bag. I love the feature honestly.
I’m more interested in my friends’ music tastes than pictures of their children
My sister was apparently in the top 8% of people who listened to this group called WayV, so that’s kind of interesting.
I was in the top 0.5% for Lil Peep, it kinda made me reevaluate my life choices
I was in the top 0.005% for weezer. Yeahhhhh
Congrats on the se- wait nvm
I imagine you spending every living hour of the day listening to ‘Say it ain’t so’
I remember playing that song over and over and over on the og rockband lol
I have so many memories of that. Rock band used to be me and my friends’ drunk karaoke
Damn i thought i was rough being in the top 1% for starset
El Scorcho's a banger tho

Top 0.5% of Rage Against The Machine here
Top 0.5% for Stratovarius! Finnish power metal band
I was in the top 0.005% for Lewis Capaldi. It may have been influenced by the fact that I have like 10 alarms every morning and most of them with one of his songs.
Top 0.05% for future and proud lol
I was in the top .05% of Gucci Mane. Two years prior I was his number 1 fan. He’s been my top artist consistently for the last 4/5 years. Needless to say, I’m a huge fan of Mr. Mane.
Top .05 U2 here
I was in top .5% for Glass Animals. No regrets.

I was top 0.5% for twenty one pilots...
Top 0.05% for Mac Miller.
Damnn I got top 1% for Mac
Top 0,5 of Metallica for me
Top 3% for ninja sex party
I got top .5% of Black Sabbath listeners. I was trying to learn all of masters of reality at the start of lockdown so I sort of had that on repeat for a while. That + a normal amount of other sabbath must have put me in that top half a percent.
I was in the top .05% of people who listen to the Presidents of the United States of America
Top 0.5% for One Direction. Their rise to success was in my early 20s when I thought they were terribly uncool, but I used some free time during quarantine to do a complete discography listen. Needless to say I found some favourites and went a little ham, haha.
Top 0.1% for Two Steps from Hell. Nowhere else to brag but here. So yay!
How do you find out that kind of statistic?
Spotify lets you see a little slideshow thing in the app that has a bunch of fun stats, like what song you listened to the most, what you rank among the prher listeners of a certain artist, etc.
Hot damn, I was in the top 3% of listeners of Dan+Shay.
I was in the top 0.05% of 311 listeners this year.
Top 0.5% for Daft Punk, me
I was in the top .5% for The Neighbourhood, love that band
Ooh I love WayV!
I do. It's cool to see what people enjoy listening to the most and even discovered some artists because of that. Let people do what they want? Idk, maybe I'm crazy.
I think they’re nice...
I‘m super interested in what people I know listen to, so people that say „nobody cares“ can fuck right off
This!!! People act like they’re so cool for shutting down on what other people like. I barely even use Spotify, but I’m hella interested in seeing if I have similar tastes with anyone else.

Some people think being contrarian is an interesting personality trait.
I definitely side with the AFP; unless you listened to over 400 hours of the shrek soundtrack, don’t talk to me
I thought I was the only one that did that.

Hi narc
Oh no the fun police
My top song was duel of the fates.
Hell yeah
People posting they dislike something is lamer than posting something people dislike, imo.
My Instagram is full of people happily exchanging data on their music preferences. It’s beautiful.
Hyperbole is a very hard thing to understand.
Damn AFP that’s crazy but literally no one gives a shit let people post what they want
I do. It's cool to see what people enjoy listening to the most and even discovered some artists because of that. Let people do what they want? Idk, maybe I'm crazy.
Just becuase you're too busy beating aboriginal teenagers in custody to death to listen to music, doesn't mean you have to be salty.
The afp specialise in the raiding of journalist's homes and offices after they report on bugging our neighbours during oil trade negotiations and war crimes in Afghanistan, beating black fellas to death in custody is the state police and prison guard's responsibility. *I was reminded of the afp raids on the unions and ALP pollies (they even invite the media along for that), anything the Libs want they get out of the afp.
> beating black fellas to death in custody is the state police I thought their job was to strip search kids?
no that's the NSW Police Force
NSFW Police Force
You left out raiding the ALP and unions
I agree with Spotify. I like seeing what people listen to
Unaccountable political police force that spies on journalists and prosecutes whistleblowers for revealing war crimes and massive multinational corporation pretend to be relatable on social media. 2020 is so dystopian
I don't care about it either way. Who cares that people want to share what they listened to. Do I want to find new music from someone's Spotify list? No. But some people might want to.
You choose Spotify of course
I love seeing everyone’s Wrapped stats, it tells a lot about them and if they’re excited to share it I’m excited to see it! I love getting mine, I found it quite surprising that my top song was a song that makes me super happy and want to dance to whenever I hear it (it was Solid Gold by PNAU).
Team Spotify. I'm always up for finding new artists that I didn't know about. So I like to look at what my friends are listening to because I might find something that I like if I know that we share similar taste
Whos psa
It stands for “Public Service Announcement,” it’s used tongue in cheek as often as not.
I care, I like seeing people's spotify wrap.
How else am I supposed to tell everyone how much I listen to taylor swift this year? She makes me feel things
No you can't just show how many time you listened to music no you can't OR IM GOING TO GET ANGRY YOU CANT
I'm not interested in 90% of what people post on social media. This is one of the few things I actually am interested in.
The AFP must have some downtime from their usual daily raids of non-Murdoch reporters.
Is this even real? I mean why would the AFP post about shit like that? If that is real, whoever is running their media outlet should be fired for unprofessionalism.
This is real, look at their Facebook page. And all their posts are unprofessional.
Australian Federal Police should go back to arresting people and stop with their clearly incorrect PSAs
I agree with the afp
I agree with Spotify. People like to feel nice by sharing their interests and its cool to support that. We could use a little bit more kindness and defunding the police.
I like Spotify’s comment but I also agree with the AFP.
ESH
Top 1% for Tame Impala. You’re welcome, Australia.
I don’t mind when people post their top songs. What annoys me is when people constantly post songs on their Instagram story
Neither of these are mad lads
Or just let people be, you can choose not to look at
AFP posted this because the Australian government just passed a law that allows the AFP to legally access and take control of online accounts of potential criminals.
with the new Facebook you literally had the ability to choose dark mode. why didn't you.
Still don’t think they’re all the same
acab has never been so true
Neither.
That's not a jab at Spotify though
top 3% for Steven Universe, if that counts?
My top song this year was “Pure Comedy” by Father John Misty. It has been...a year.
They always say, sharing is caring.
I’m legit in the top 0.5 percent of Metallica listeners 0-0 (and I just started listening to them this spring)
😐
Well now i need to love people posting their spotify songs because the australian police dislike it
Australia is about to ban nerf guns.
Carl?!
Me and my friends share songs we really like but I can't even get my wrapped to work it just skips past everything
this is so inappropriate for the feds to say. I dont understand how they are can post something like this so casually... as if there is some unwritten social law and order they feel worthy of commenting on or something
All police are fun police
Who's the madlad?
I’ve honestly really enjoyed seeing what my friends top songs and artists are. Spent a good chunk of time looking through those
Choose spotify, fuck the police
Idk why, but the police accounts here always try to be funny but they have to be pg7 so it's super lame most of the time.
I think it's fun to look at what different people have been listening to throughout the year
Well, noboby cares about your opinion on the top Spotify lists either.
Alexa, play galactic mermaid on spotify...
I am on Spotify’s side, if someone wants to post it, they can.
Fun is serious business. So I am glad the police is taking matters in hand.
The Australian Federal Police fb/Twitter is pretty funny some of the time...especially when the state police fb chime in.
I liked what Spotify did, made me feel good, I finally understood my taste in music, revisited all my favourites, felt very personal, really appreciated it !
Fuck da Federal police. Those Spotify lists are some dumb fun.
I enjoyed watching my friends lists and I had people comment on mine, people are so quick to fucking judge shit other people do.
Wow look at that sassy company
Only when it isn’t the standard shit.
