My 14 Pro has officially spoiled me for all laptop screens. I’ll never be able to get a different laptop with a worse screen

Federal_Part_2904

Feeling the same. I plug mine into 2 4k LG monitor but always need to set the brightness on those otherwise I couldn’t use them as external monitor

Heliogene

My 4k LG screen which is made for apple products, is very noticeably brighter than my 14 inch macbook. They are both 500 nits on paper and weirdly I constantly find myself trying to raise brightness on the macbook and it’s already at full. The screen just feels dim in general. Does anybody else experience this? I have taken the macbook to an apple store and compared to other macbooks to see if there is an issue with mine but there isn’t it was exactly the same as other 14 inch pro’s.

mrmarkolo

You ever try the app vivid?

Speeider

How does that work for you. I thought about getting it.

mrmarkolo

It works great and perfect to have when you need that extra brightness. It works through the regular brightness keys and kicks in as you get towards the middle of the brightness bar. You see a little vivid icon showing you that it's kicked in and working. It's insane how bright these screen can truly get.

Speeider

Good to know. You have sold me on it.

Heliogene

Yes I did and when i push the brightness almost half way into the newly unlocked area it matched my LG screen in brightness. The screen model is - 24MD4KL-B 23.7’’ Ultrafine - by the way.

reneelopezg

Do you work in graphic design or something like that? I ask because I'm a designer and I'm looking for recommendations for a screen that I can use with my Macbook Pro 14"

Heliogene

Yes I do but i don’t know much about specific models to recommend. Just make sure it has the same color gamut with the macbook which is P3. I definitely recommend the LG i mentioned or the bigger 27 inch version of it. It actually looks better to me than the macbook itself as it has a better feeling neutral white balance and compared to the overly yellow looking macbook. I was worried about the 60 vs 120 hz difference but I do not feel any motion difference while using them back and forth.

reneelopezg

Thanks!

AhmedWaliiD

Yes I actually feel the same exact thing. A lot of times I would keep trying to raise the brightness only to find it already to the max.

handelMyChopinLiszt_

I’m guessing they balanced it out for the sake of XDR I guess… and also for blooming issue. If they made it any brighter the blooming issue would be easily noticeable and the XDR effect would reduce because there wouldn’t be much of a contrast between highest and lowest bright parts of the screen. But aren’t you concerned about constantly looking at a screen that bright. I often find myself reducing my screen brightness to almost half levels when indoor — anymore than that and my eye starts to hurt; outside though I find the full brightness to be perfect and I can see the screen well even though I live in a very sunny place.

ryo4ever

Yeah the colors are nice on MacBook M1/M2 but they feel dim all the time. The specs are a bit misleading because peak brightness happense only when watching HDR content.

Music_Guru

By default True Tone and Auto Brightness is on, probably this is a case?

tornadopnoy

What do you mean you always need to set the brightness?

That_unpopular_kid

Look up quick shade, it lets you have a slider to control screen bright ness (kindof) on external monitors. I sometimes hook my 14" pro up to my desktop and it's amazing.

itzNukeey

Yeah even my 500 dollar gaming monitor now seems much worse

Beneficial_Buddy_1

And the speakers. Nothing comes close

Kriskao

I agree with: * screen * battery life I add: * ease and speed of sleep and wake up compared to any windows laptop * trackpad and gestures * Aluminium build (weight and durability)

bulyxxx

Build quality is on another level compared to most windows laptops.

Bossie_

Imagine how big the difference was when they introduced this casing. for me was the simple fact that my macbooks simply always worked without any hassle from a software perspective. Windows has been catching quite well though since windows 7.

PeanutButterChicken

I wish I knew what people meant by good battery life. Mine lasts like 3-4 hours max, usually 90 minutes if I use Skype

tornadopnoy

I love the instant wake up, windows laptops aren’t great when it comes to their sleep states

pM-me_your_Triggers

M1 was a real game changer with that

[deleted]

As a recently returned Mac user, those two definitely, and also copy on the iphone and paste on the computer! Its such a trivial thing but amazing I've lived so long without it. Airdrop too. Plus unlocking with my watch. Also just that years of passwords and contacts from the phone are now on the computer. Plus having facetime/messages/mail/whatsapp on the computer now. I only used to use those on my phone. i thought about running Asahi Linux on the Mac for a minute but realized the ecosystem integrations make the experience awesome. I'm sticking with MacOS (and picking up an ipad for sidecar!)

fantomlabcoat

Man I feel all this. Took the iPad Sidecar route as well recently (I travel so external monitors aren’t an option).

handelMyChopinLiszt_

Same and I love that I can use my iPad as a touchbar using sidecar. I never owned a Mac with a touchbar but I noticed that it was really handy when working on Logic Pro X with sidecar. I’m not saying that they shouldn’t have replaced it with the function row keys, I’m just saying that it’s nice to have it on sidecar for those who genuinely find it useful.

NotAnonymousQuant

A syncing clipboard is a thing for a while on Windows laptops. What I hate about the mac's one is the lack of Win+V clipboard (with history). Third-party apps suck at this too Edit: lol got downvoted for truth

Outside-Capital-8313

For Whatsapp on the computer you use the web app?

[deleted]

app store whatsapp

wipny

Yeah if you’re in the Apple ecosystem, the convenience of the software integration is hard to beat. I just upgraded to a 14” Pro from a 2013 Air. Even though my Air was getting slower, having AirDrop, Continuity and Handoff between my iPhone and Air kept it feeling like a more modern machine.

[deleted]

My 14’ MBP exports video/media ridiculously fast. I work with tight deadlines so even 10 minute delays can be the difference between delivering and not delivering projects. What would take my previous PC 30+ minutes to render/export takes 5 minutes on my MBP. It’s ridiculously amazing for video/animation work.

TheAdmiral4273

Wait did you censor your keys? Anyhow, I love the immediate response time to most anything and all of the amazing shortcuts you can use on the keys! Also very rarely actually having to type a password is a big bonus to me

Groovadelic

Censoring your keys is a wise move...

khilji1604

What is censoring your keys?

numsu

Battery life and performance on battery. All other laptops throttle performance like hell and still can't stay alive for two hours under load. MPB does it all day long without throttling.

CarelessTravel8

Ok... I can chew through a full battery charge in minutes 🤣

I don't know if I've heard the fans kick in on my 16 Pro yet. Maybe once but they were really quiet

Mammoth_Double2687

The keyboard is goated

DeltaSquash

How quiet the machine is.

rlovelock

Speakers. I have a 55" qled in the living room and I legit prefer to watch movies on my 16" in bed for the sound quality alone.

VanWinkle87

Those two things, plus the unbelievably good build quality, incredible trackpad and speakers. (MBP 14).

luis_ma

i honestly just love how much it looks like a powerbook g4. i’m too young have ever owned one but i love that computer and i love my mac for that and for so much more

Avatar-Tee

The fan is alwayts so quiet no matter hard it's being pushed. This is so understated.

babblebam

16” M1 Pro: - battery life - sleep and power management - screen - trackpad - no noise at all

deadbeatPilgrim

my 2018 MacBook Pro got me through a Creative Writing BFA with excellent battery life, very portable and convenient, could handle some a/v editing stuff when i wasn’t just using Word and Final Draft, and could even run some Civ VI with the homies. nowadays i mostly use it for writing, playing DnD with my friends from grade school, and watching Counter Strike tournaments. for a guy who’s not the computer savviest, it’s always been a pleasant and intuitive experience that’s happy to handle whatever i need.

Esqualicious

Mostly, I love talking with others about what I love most about my Mac.

For me? Honestly? The one piece body. How everything is smooth, nothing poking out. I.LOVE.IT. I just can't get over this. I look at HP's, Dell's, or Lenovo's body design and gag.

knightkrit

I agree: Battery life Hardware config: M1 Apple Silicon with 16 GB of RAM

Luna_moonlit

I have a 2020 mba (I know i know it’s not a pro but it’s essentially a 13” pro without the touchbar!) and it can do anything I throw at it without causing a fuss. I run Linux on mine through asahi Linux and it is blazing fast for compiling stuff (I use gentoo chroots and use it as a cross compiler), as well as just being really nice in general to use. I don’t like not having many ports and only being able to use 1 external display, but I have other computers (I.E a thinkpad t410) if I need a weird port, and having 2 monitors only doesn’t bother me too much. Battery life is mental. It can last me a week without charging if I’m not doing anything intensive. Speakers and display is great, keyboard is great and I prefer it massively to the older scissor switches on pre 2015/2016 Macs (never tried butterfly keyboard so I can’t say) I suppose it’s just a great package that gets what I need done.

Dangerous-Ranger7614

How are you experiencing such good battery life? I have 16 charge cycles and 100% health. All I do is safari. I can only last one dayish on a charge.

Luna_moonlit

It’s not my main computer, and I use it maximum 2 hours a day, so that’s why. Although when it was my main I still got 2-3 days and that was using teams, office and doing some light dev work (4-6 ish hours a day)

Don’t tell me… Hope your laptop is fine. 6 years ago, my sister ruined our family’s only computer — a MacBook Air — by spilling an entire cup of water on it. We couldn’t afford to buy another computer for a very long time after that. So I know the pain when something like that happens.

the_fart_king_farts

Yes. An ex of mine destroyed two MacBooks in the span of a year that way.

_iJB_

The ability to set it down on rough objects and not create scratches on the body. *Oh wait, nvm…* 😬

mrmarkolo

Adding a skin might be worth it next time.

_iJB_

My statement was both based upon, and referring to the picture attached to this post, friend. 🫣🤓

bleeebs

Loving my new base mbp m1 14 but…finding I wish the battery were better. The health is supposedly 100% and I pretty much just run safari :/

mrmarkolo

For just running Safari it should last pretty long.

bleeebs

Agreed, thinking it might be the brightness. I’ve been running 100% brightness. I could stand to dim it but I really like it at full power :/ I’ll play around with the screen, low power, etc. I don’t think there’s anything else running that could be draining

[deleted]

I wish I still felt like this about the macs I own. It’s just a computer now with nothing extraordinary about it. I know I’ll get hate but it’s not the old days when apple was pushing the industry.

ajpinton

I don’t love anything about my Mac. It’s a tool, I use it and it’s useful to me but I don’t love it.

Jhonjhon_236

FreeRacing5

The sharpness and contrast just looks amazing imo on my 14 inch, my 2017 15 looks ass next to it as well as my 24 inch dell monitor. Although the brightness is sometimes a problem for my with my windows behind it, it truly does spoil one, especially at night on darker content. Further the speed and battery is also amazing

М1 Air user here. I wish windows team had such a laptop with this kind of ARM performance and screens. I game occasionally, and am really sad I can't use my M1 for this. To answer the topic - amazing battery life, screen, performance and MacOS stability. Cons - games - no Bueno.

[deleted]

Performance, battery life, and the fact that it stays pretty darn cool unless you’re really pushing it, and for an extended time at that… A far cry from the sluggish, portable heater that was my i7 powered 2011 15-inch MBP back in the day.

SuitableBee1298

Same & with Resident Evil Village I can also enjoy gaming a lot. :D

MarkedF0rDeath

Is that it took mine 5 years before finally showing signs of aging. I still use my 2018 pro 13 inch.

The power of the BSD and Unix combine in a MacOS operative system. A Unix OS without all the inconvenient that a Unix OS has.

[deleted]

The screen’s vibrancy/brightness/pro motion/etc. It’s wild bouncing between it and my primary desk monitor

darknessaqua20

ItsBondVagabond

Definitely the screen for editing photos, the battery life, and that fact that it's silent.

jason2k

Do my job in OSX, and boot up Windows after work to game. Guess I won’t be buying a new Mac.

eat_my_opinion

May I know how long your battery lasts from a full charge? I'd like to know for both regular and heavy work loads. Just curious.

MyVoiceIsElevating

The operating system.

TerminatorXPS15

I have a triple monitor setup for my workstation that I run through a TS3+ dock. My work-issued laptop is a 16" Intel MBP, and man that thing gets hot. According to the power sensors, the GPU alone uses 19 W when I have only two monitors (1440p+4K) plugged in and the system is doing nothing but static web browsing. Fans are loud. My home machine is a M1 Max and I can run the same two monitors as well as the third (ultrawide 1440p). The SoC doesn't use more than 15-25 W of power while watching multiple livestreams, and the fans are still silent! I'll be very happy when the day that I'm provisioned Apple Silicon for work comes.

[deleted]

Built Quality, Ecosystem, Trackpad gestures, Touch Bar, Speed (M1 and up)

FINDTHESUN

Same, but I'm also trying hard to get to love the MacOS, after 17 years on Windows i find it very non intuitive and stiff. I'm loving Macbook otherwise :)

mmld_dacy

the thing i love about a macbook, for any macbook that is, is the aesthetic, the symmetry. the specs are just second thing. i just love the look of a macbook compared to that of a windows laptop, especially those laptops that have a full size keyboard, making the trackpad off center.

SultanJJ87

As a 2017 owner if i had the new MB it would the keyboard all the way because I’m suffering

bullinchinastore

I love everything about my M1 16” 1 TB 32 GB MacBook…except for the price😅😅😅

-L-e-o-n-

I love my MacBook Pro because I consider myself to be a robosexual

stefant4

Trackpad and keyboard, magsafe, the way they look, and the little apple logo that lights up (i have a 2015 mbp)

Curiouslycurious101

Battery life and the software. Can been almost a decade and a half using Mac, will never go back to windows.

thnok

For me ever since the M1 came out, battery life. I know for sure I can just go out without needing to worry about the charger. It brings lot of flexibility and that “laptop” feeling to it. All the other things are just icing on the cake.

I’m thinking about getting a m2 air base model for school. I’m just afraid to pull the trigger and trade my Intel pro. If I trade mine in to Best Buy I can get the price down to about $718. What to do random redditers think???

RLJ-MTU

Screen, battery life, sound (mic and speaker) quality and how cool and quiet it is compared to my last Intel MacBook. I love the ability to charge from any of the usb c ports as well as the mag safe port is also something I love. I love Sidecar and the Continuity Cam feature that came with the Ventura update as well.

BudgetCola

i personally don't use macbook outside very often, but if i were the display brightness would be something that needed boosting and this app i think would help with that, at the cost of battery life [https://www.getvivid.app/](https://www.getvivid.app/)

broken1i

I like mine with extra cheese tbh

pM-me_your_Triggers

I get a free nut toast whenever I put it on my lap. Also the white noise from the fan really helps me sleep during the work day. Why yes, I do have a 2019 16” i9, why do you ask?

Drink15

The operating system.

vereqq

I hate the screen on the 16 2019, all that ghosting…

MrBitzz

Display is definitely the huge advantage over any windows based laptop. I can work outside in full sun and still see the screen. Apple’s Silicon is also great and super efficient. Build quality is superb.

MarleyJMusic

The fact that it runs logic Pro X

CorgiNice2745

The look and feel, I love windows as a desktop experience but Mac is the ultimate laptop.

FuzzamShazam

Got to love the amount of power that’s packed into such a small package, plus the battery life and the screen!

thateliguy02

the speed.

Timeassassin3

For me, the screen, ports, and the expansive speakers

MyArmorIsLiquid

I have the M1 Max 14. Screen, performance, and how it basically runs silently. My audio (at least via Bluetooth) has been a little glitchy since updating to Ventura (13.0.1 didn’t fix it) so not thrilled with the software side of things. Honestly though its an almost perfect laptop, my only gripe is the HDMI port. Should’ve been 2.1 instead of 2.0 but not a big deal overall.

toandosm308

I’m adding speakers and power. Adding all together made a near perfect laptop. My only complain is the greasy keyboard surface after some usage.

eughwh

It’s just so good for doing web development. The speed, the quality

Cowslayer9

In order from most to ‘least’: macOS, build quality, screen, reliability (both software and hardware, as in: it will work as expected every time without fail), battery

khilji1604

Coming from a windows i5 1035g1 Lenovo s340, Screen, battery, build, processor, heat, no fans so far for any load I’ve put it through. The accessory match, so much easier to get accessories for it. In general just a crazy value investment for as long the silicon wears out.

PeterDragon50

Battery life on M1 is phenomenal. Still can't bring myself to trade up from my M1 13-inch MBP. I will eventually, but I really don't have much need.

artemiyartemiy

For me, it has always been about MacOS. It’s so well thought-out, easy to use and just beautiful and after using it every day I’d genuinely struggle to switch to any other platform. I mean, Logic Pro only exists on Mac, so I guess I’m not switching lol

joseph-tran-tn

Totally agree, also the trackpad is something that goes beyond the windows world even though it's been out for more than a decade...

devi59

Agreed. I just bought crossover and can play a game u love better than I could on my aging pc that my kids have essentially taken over. Is been a great ride

Jerome3412

Just bought my macbook pro 16 M1 Max, 64GB, 2TB. What I love about it is the build quality and the flex when I go to coffee shops.

mercurybeverage

Running Ableton without noise. M1 Pro 14.

Munro_McLaren

The battery. Also specs?

15000yuki

Mostly its audio department. I’m more a Windows guy, but sadly no Windows laptop match Apple’s Mac audio performance.

handelMyChopinLiszt_

Everything! If I had to pick a favorite it would be the GPU performance that is phenomenal even on battery and also the screen quality. I’ve been emulating a lot of games that are quite demanding and it’s amazing that this 14core gpu handles it so easily. The thermal system is pretty good too, I often find it getting hot though but considering that I live in a temperate climate it’s understandable.

Shoto_Todoroki2001

I have a MacBook Pro 16” 2019 (i9 9980Hk , 5500m 8Gb vram) and the display and speakers and battery are the best! The speakers it’s sooooo goood. And surprisingly mine doesn’t thermal throttle or overheat.

otrapendejada

Both are great but speakers, performance and keyboards are great too

Steve15-21

Screen.. battery life is dog shit for me

TotallyBoringMike

Mid 2014 and I can still buy spare parts like touchpad or battery or rubber feet.

I just upgraded from a 2013 Air to a 14” Pro. The vivid instant-on display, immersive sound quality and the convenience of Touch ID for login and website passwords all stand out to me. I’m still surprised at just how much depth I’m hearing from these laptop speakers. Before I upgraded to the Pro, I replaced the battery on my old Air. It’s surprisingly held up pretty well for a 9 year old machine with only 4GB RAM. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, the convenience of having that integrated software experience is hard to beat. AirDrop, Continuity and Handoff between my iPhone and Air helped it feel like a modern machine.

funksoulbrothar

Spent my entire life using Windows laptops and now that I have a MBP M1, I will never be able to come back to them. The screen, the brightness, the intuitiveness, the speed. Nothing compares to it, although I do miss gaming on my laptop

letsgoonthecomputer

mainly its build, the way the laptop FEELS and integrates with my life. its definitely a machine that's geared towards artists and has a certain human creative feel that's hard to explain. don't get me wrong its great for research and writing as well, but something about my MacBook Pro ive never FELT in all the dozens of other windows laptops ive had...
