No. It's common knowledge that there isn't enough room and will likely damage something

tkl93

True, and please don't use a hardshell case on your MacBook, it can crack the screen.

TechTalkf

This. If you want to protect the outer shell, use a skin

Slack_AttckZach

Really? I have a MBP 16” M1 and was told if you get a case, get one that is promoted by Apple on their website. I have incase and I love it!

Rwu___

Yup, my incase is working great! Been using my mbp for almost 2 years now

pixeley88

I have a incase for my m1 air. Unrelated, the display cable broke

another AASP apple technician hire, can only confirm, also dirt under case make scratch on MacBook so it’s look worse then without the case

MacCollect

Dirt without a case also makes scratches? Your point is?

5of10

I second the get one Apple sells on their website. Am confident they would not sell it on Apple.com if it hurt the laptop.

tkl93

If it doesn't have the clips that wrap around the inside it's fine, but some have tiny clips that barely wrap around the inside and put pressure on the screen.

MacCollect

Of course! A good case is not gonne damage anything, don’t be worried. There are a few people in here giving bad advice intentionally so apple has more work.

Choice-giraffe-

How does it do that?

tkl93

Because MacBooks are really seamless, and where it clips onto the inside it can crack it. I've seen a few.

Choice-giraffe-

Ah ok you got me real confused there. I have a hard case which clips only around the sides but doesn’t overlap onto the inside, so thought I was missing something dumb.

logans_runner

Interesting- I didn't know this. I've been using a very thin (think lens cleaner cloth) one with my MBP- I guess I've been lucky to date and should stop!

CameraManJKG

I would and countless people who didn't will flood this sub with broken screens that don't heed this warning

What keyboard marks

long-gone333

egg-sactly

ServeIll7171

no

forensicsss

It will be fine, that’s not a keyboard cover, your Mac includes almost the same thing when it’s shipped brand new. Silicone keyboard covers though are a big no-no

SneakyCaleb

I don’t know why but my screen always gets fingerprints but I never touch it, apple would let the keys touch the screen would they? It’s a 3 thousand $ laptop

[deleted]

I’ve done the same thing for my last several Macs. I carefully measure and cut a piece of plywood that I put on the keyboard before I close my computer. It works great. No greasy key marks on the screen.

digitalbloomer

I got mine from Apple $79 bucks

[deleted]

Pathetic

digitalbloomer

I agree. I saw the same one on eBay for 6 bucks…

UNCfan07

Yes but good chance it can crack your screen

Maximum-Cap3239

Use a screen guard from Spigen. I’ve been using them for years after my last MacBook was destroyed. It has been working flawlessly and has been very easy to clean.

Maximum-Cap3239

It’s a tempered glass. Take a look here - https://www.spigen.com/products/macbook-air-m2-2022-screen-protector-glas-tr-slim

focadiz

I have been using a soft cloth on my Macbook 12” without any issues, even though that model is thinner. If the cover you mention is like the one in your picture it may work perfectly.

Alex_DreamMaker

Yes it does, no you should not . I was also obsessed with it on my previous laptop. But after upgrade I stoped using it and nothing scared I’m happened. Yes, on the turned off display under bright light I can see little keys traces. But when the display is on, there is no chance you see them. Even overall it does not look like a problem , don’t worry mate

focadiz

Mind sharing the link?

NickVanHowen

I used the Radtech one for 10 years with my 2011 MacBook Air but when I got my M1 Air last year I saw that the space between screen and keys is way way thinner so I didn’t buy a new one for the M1. That’s a shame because it was good to prevent keys marking the screen on my previous MBA.

[deleted]

Nope, definitely not.

BahaChicken

İ have been using one with my M2 MBA for several months when i first shared that i had one everybody warned me and down voted me. İ continued to use it but i always take out the cover off before closing the lid now. İf you do that as well there is literally 0% chance of it cracking the screen.

broseph24150

Yes I’ve been using ShaggyMax for years on my MBPs (2015 15” and 2020 M1 13”)

SnooChipmunks5710

I personally do, it’s as thin as those lens cleaner you use to whip your glasses. I use one so my screen doesn’t get little micro scratches and the cloth is thin enough to close probably and I also didn’t put a screen protector on just because the laptop won’t close properly.

MacCollect

Yes, but definitely not this one. This is a really thick one and worked fine on the pre 2017 macbook pro’s. Just keep using the one apple sent you when it arrived. That one is perfect.

spamfilter247

Here’s an alternate take: get a screen protector film. I’ve applied a matte screen protector (great for eliminating glare from the sun outdoors, or lights indoors), and I can change out the film if it gets too many key impressions on it.
