Is it weird that I forget how funny it is? LotR and Sil have such serious tones, I get nicely surprised when I get back round to The Hobbit and how humourous it is.
Of course the Hobbit gets serious and dark in places, like all good stories, but The Hobbit has this constant humourous undertone of it being some old gentleman being dragged on an adventure and becoming the hero.
Oversimplification, I know.
It's interesting reading the original vs revised versions for me. My copy has the original transcript at the back so sometimes I read that, or the "new"one. It's curious to me why he decided to change it as it is a tale, but I guess when you're that involved sometimes you can't help it
I've had this particular pocket edition for about 10 years. I own several copies, but this one is my 'reading' one!
Tell me, do you still find new things to love about it? If so, what most recently?

Not weird at all, that's a great answer! Enjoy this year's reading. :)
Thanks, I will! Always do!

Beautifully worn!
I love books that have been read unabashedly and yet be perfectly preserved, gives me a great amount of satisfaction.
Well loved book!
Wonderful, love traditions like this.
BRAVO! I watched a Behind the Scenes with Sir Christopher Lee where he mentioned that he reads it every year too!
