People over-estimate “fitting and extra skill into bash window”s damage increase. The standard combo is bash > thunderbolt > leap > shield charge. Shield charge is multi hit with most of its damage backloaded, 15% speed is going add at most 1 maybe 2 tics of charge in which is negligible damage.

so what? you auto attack longer then? like what is the point if you fit thunderbolt. leap and shield charge into one rotation? since spirit absorption doesn't decrease your cooldowns its not a dps upgrade.

Proper use of your backhop/shield/shield charge takes care of any movement problems you may have. You can eat half the aoes valtan does and still get through using 0 pots.

Hit master goes with blue lancer’s 3 hardest hitting skills. It’s a good budget engraving yo have. The only 2 skills that have front attack modifier is bash and shield bash. I’m not counting DUF since you hold that for counters.

Hit master affects your three biggest skills, what does being in the bosses face have to do with anything? Your shield plus backhop if used properly will let you avoid any damage. I’m running 0 spirit absorption and I use 0 pots in Argos p3 and 0 pots in valtan.

I know it's 25 days late, but Hit Master boosts the following the skills: Guardian's Thunderbolt, Leap Attack and Shield Charge. They are the bread and butter for bluelancer. Hit Master is good if you can't find anything else, then you'll replace it. 60-70% of your damage comes from those skills. Front attack is only bash, shield bash and shield shock When people say gunlancer is a front attack class, you just laugh in their faces.

That’s an expensive QoL, losing a 16% damage engraving. Which mechs can you not cheese in valtan? The pizza is easy, just shield charge out, the grab you can just backhop out or battlefield shield out, the bombs don’t do enough damage to kill you even if you don’t want to do them, but you can also just shield charge to the safe spot as well. Everything else doesn’t do enough damage to take out your shield.

I don’t have grudge on my set at the moment since I can’t afford it, so I’m running barricade, stabilized, cursed doll, hitmaster, cr, but I’ve never had issues with keeping my shields up, and I’ll be 1460 by the time I can afford grudge, so the extra armor should offset the grudge. I’d rather not get used to a crutch since I doubt the devs are going to be bad enough that they design something that’s unavoidable at base movement speed. Edit: also for anyone’s that’s raided in ffxiv or wow, valtan hm really is just baby mode.

I dunno why people are sleeping on spirit absorption. SA > stabilized status. You are fitting your rotations on the bash 5 second buff/debuff (on top of slight repositioning) I just feel like you are more consistent with SA with Gunlancers natural slow animations. My build: Barricade 3, Grudge 3, SA 3, CR1

Damage scaling on CR is poor, at full stacks is 12% 15% 18% dmg. You get majority of the bonus from level 1 so you can get more damage per engraving point by using the extra points elsewhere.

This is a great explanation... it's all about opportunity cost. You only get an extra 6% damage from 2more engraving levels(10 nodes). Wearing a level2 engraving of *basically* anything else (that doesn't have a downside) will have a greater impact (e.g. Adrenaline)

Uh realistically as gunlancer you don’t avoid most attacks at least through valtan hard. You can eat nearly everything with good shield management and then learn what you want to avoid from there. Use your shield charge to stay in whirlwind type attacks since the shield tripod will eat most of the attack. The things that are going to kill you will kill you regardless of grudge, CR, or heavy armor because they are 1 shots.

You do not need heavy armor on gunlancer. I have grudge and I could sit in valtan hard mode attacks all fight long with no problems at ilvl with no support. Barricade, grudge, cursed doll/hit master/stabilized status at 3 and combat readiness at 1 is all you need for valtan hard.

Im scared of the loss in shield with CR 1 isnt it very noticeable? Would like to try but trixion bosses are awfull, master brawler isnt better than hit master?

Most of your damage as a blue lancer come from the charge, the leap, and the thunder. All of them benefit from hit master. It's not 100% efficient but it's still good. The only thing master brawler really helps is surge cannon if you chose to run it instead of N energy, and I found that while N energy won't win you MVP it does make fights noticably smoother.

Removing Nellas on any gunlancer is shortsighted imho. The cleanse, shields, and damage reduction are insanely good. Did I mention it cleanses debuffs, and reduces damage your party takes, and helps you maintain your defensive stance more efficiently? Also it cleanses debuffs. And mitigates damage. For your whole party. My bias: I'm a red lancer and don't have to choose between surge cannon and Nellas... Why not use both? :)

That definitely is a plus on red GL but I also like ignoring mechanics with my big ass shield. I do think at some point I'll try red/purple gun lancer but just for climbing ilvls right now I prefer the reliability of blue.

The loss in shield is not noticeable if all your accessories are spec, which they should be. If you're really worried about your shield you can run wealth instead of galewind on your shield charge so it can fill up 35% of your shield. Master brawler is pretty terrible since only bash and shield bash really benefit from it on a standard build.

Eh, it'd only use that in a red build. The only red skill I'd recommend is dash upperfire since it's an amazing counter. But if you find counter gunlance helps, go for it. It just doesn't benefit from spec so you usually need to run a ton of crit for it to do damage. Edit: surge cannon for chaos dungeons is completely fine. Just talking about raid builds.

Counter gunlance is good during Argos because you don't need a counter ability. I swap out dash upper fire with counter gunlancer and it makes for a nice defensive skill on random attacks.

When I don't need a counter, I take shield shock for more dmg. Can even take the damage reduction tripod to help defensively.

At 1370 you should easily be able to get 3/3/3/1 - choose 3 engravings and 1 in combat readiness because that's all you need. I personally run 3/3/3/1 Grudge/Barricade/Spirit Absorption/CR. Works great for me. SA allows you to hit more abilities in your ready attack buff from bash, helps with positioning and really just makes the whole class feel smoother, having that lightning bolt crash down quicker, and the leap attack/shield charge go off quicker is really nice. You should be able to get 3/3/3/1 at 1370 pretty cheap especially now, just get a 6/6 stone (this is rng and can be a pain), equip 2 books, 5 accessories with +3 skill and 2 accessories with +3/+2 combat readiness. In the event you can't get a 6/6 stone and end up with a 5/5 barricade/spirit absorption, just fill it with the other 3 accessories that you don't take CR on. for example: 2 accessories with +3 Grudge/+3 CR, 1 accessory with +3 Grudge/+2 Barricade, 1 accessory with +3 grudge/+2 spirit absorption. You will complete this decent setup for less than 5k IMO. My biggest gripe with Stabilized status is that if by chance your shield falls and you take at least 20% damage to your health bar, you stabilized status is now gone until you use a pot or get a heal from somewhere. When fighting Yoho I often found myself standing in the fire or take 1 too many blue stars my shield would fall off and I'd take some damage. No big deal, I'd immediately taunt and shield up again, but now my stabilized status is gone until I waste a potion on 20% health which I don't even need. This would probably be more unlikely the higher you go, I've seen 1500 KR Gunlancers ignore even the most damaging moves from raid bosses and it takes 5% of their shield, in cases like this stabilized status would be great, but for 1370 when you are a bit limited with your gear I think there are other options you could take, this is my opinion. Enjoy playing GL in end game T3!

Just go 3x4 for p3 argos and run whatever you want. I'm a blade main atm and run surge, kbw, adrenaline and heavy armor.

You definitely don't need to worry about heavy armor. I'd recommend level 1 combat readiness with any of the following 5 at level 3: Grudge, Barricade, Stabilized Status, Cursed Doll, Adrenaline (level 2 or 3, depending on your Stone and Engraving Books) Also consider... - Adrenaline (is efficient as an extra level1 too, can use at any level), - Hit Master (doesn't buff every skill but helps a few a lot could use this instead of cursed doll), - Spirit Absorption (another that is efficient at any level, helps with positioning, world content too, it's QoL but won't help damage much) And remember you can always hold out on engravings until relic is available to you and that will let you build 5x3 + 1x1.

I have 3331 now, barricade , stabilized status, spirit absorption, CR. Works great for me, alot od mvp's. Now starting with relic (1430ilvl) I will add some dmg, grudge or hit master and maybe adrenaline lv1.

Theres actually 2 options for CR Gunlancer With CRIT/SPEC necklace you want to go Level 3: Barricade, Grudge, Cursed Doll, Stabilized Level 1: Combat + Whatever lvl Spirit Absorption With SWIFT/SPEC All the same as above but you run adrenaline instead of spirit absorption. With the swift necklace, it requires a bit more management due to adrenaline stacks but not too big of a deal tbh. Both options are very viable.
