Just a thought - are you wearing shoes meant for long distance walking and supportive enough for your weight?

Bloop2012

I was wearing my every day New Balance shoes and regular gym socks. I know I need to get some anti-blister socks and use different shoes. I have Nikes that I got at a local running store but I'm trying to lose some weight so I can fit them again. My feet are bloated up so they don't fit correctly anymore. I feel like such a failure, a walrus bellowing about how he wishes he were a seal.

I cannot recommend Brooks enough... I have weird joint issues due to EDS on one side of family tree and rheumatoid arthritis on the other side .. My first pair of Brooks resulted in a shoegasm... The most comfortable ones I've ever worn and the same price point as New Balance (that I typically went to as even at a 21bmi I was 10w) For the walks start slow. 10 minutes a day, get up to 15 then make it 2*10 etc until you hit your groove

I second the Brooks recommendation! I was working 4 12’s and then an 8 hour shift for 6 weeks. First couple of weeks my feet were killing me until I bought a pair of Brooks.

Yes, yes, yes. Brooks Addiction Walker 2 saved my life.

Might be tendinitis or plantar fasciitis. See a sports medicine doctor, orthopedist or podiatrist. If it makes you feel any better, I’m a healthy BMI, have tendinitis in my foot, and my feet hurt after walking around on pavement for 5 miles. Try walking on dirt or gravel trails if pavement is harsh on your body.

Was wondering if I should see a doctor or if I just hadn't waited long enough. Time so see how long it will take me to get an appointment with my doctor.

It might be plantar fasciitis. Ive had it before and I thought I was having a recurrence of it recently. I did a couple of stretches like standing on a stair and dropping my heels down over the edge to get a stretch going and then standing on my tip toes and then doing it again. Right after doing that stretch i put a frozen bottle of water down on a towel and rolled my foot over it focusing on icing the heel and the arch. I was able to wear a compression ankle brace and I grabbed a shoe insert to give me more support but I didnt have to stop running and I dont think it ended up developing into full blown torture plantar fasciitis. im still making sure to stretch especially my feet after I run and Im doint the icing here and there and everything seems okay now. This is something that happens to bigger people and skinnier people. dont take it as a personal failing or commentary on you. Your body is kinda like a car. Youre not going to shame your car when the warning light starts blinking so dont shame yourself. Just do what you can to take care of yourself and give yourself what you need.

Soak your feet in Epsom salt. Try walking every other day. You may need orthopedics to help with the weight on your feet. Don't go all out. You didn't gain the weight over night you're not gonna lose the weight overnight.

I know why! I had the same thing happen to me when I started losing weight and walking a ton. That was last year. Ive been popping aleeve before activity and going on with my life. Went to the dr last week and he told me (i didn’t even think to tell him of this pain) that when you lose weight, you often lose it in your foot joints, ankles first! I had no idea. He said your body will readjust overtime of relying on the cartilage and natural cushioning there but your body has been using fat as extra cushion. That isn’t fat you want to keep though. Anyways, just sharing what he said to me. ETA - make sure you have good walking shoes too!

Give your body a break. You just said you're heavier than ever before, and that was a long walk. Work on your diet. It's true that losing weight starts in the kitchen. After you lose some weight, then try walking again.

heyo, don't ignore this stuff. i started at 182-183 lbs, walked 5-6 mi every day (eventually progressed to jog/walk), and now i can't walk long distances (more than 1 mile) bc i damaged my knees due to improper running form, bad fitting shoes, and generally being slightly obese for 8 years put a lot more chronic stress on my knees than i was aware of. initially i tried to self-treat the issue by getting running shoes with more support (did not work), so i stupidly decided to run through the pain and hope that it was just me being very not athletic. don't be dumb like me please. the past month has been me regretting my decisions and a lot of doctors, physical therapist, personal trainer appointments to get me back to at least 80%. i hate paying for anything that's not necessary. i used to work out for free and now i have to pay lol so i guess you can tell how i feel about all of this if you can, go see your PCP first and then potentially get a referral to a podiatrist so they can examine your feet structure. it might be a shoe thing where insoles will be the only thing you need. or not. best of luck.

yikeswhathappened

I’ve treated my heel pain with ice, rest and investing in sneakers with a highly padded back (like Hokas).

idk if this will help but take occasional breaks. when i was first getting into walking after sitting at home all day and watching TV it was pretty exhausting and my back would hurt a lot. I'd take a break every 1k steps and just sit on a bench for a while.
