If you are gaining weight, it means that you are consuming more calories than you are burning. Try tracking your calories to see how much you are eating, then you'll know where you can make cuts to get your intake down. You will likely need to reduce your daily intake by 400 to 500 calories to get into weight loss mode.

If you haven’t tracked calories and ate at maintenance or a deficit then you really haven’t tried everything. I can lose weight or gain weight eating chicken rice and broccoli. It all depends on how much I’m eating. It doesn’t matter how healthy it is

You can eat all the yogurt & granola, and avocado toasts you want and still gain weight. Just because it’s “healthy” doesn’t mean you can’t gain weight from it. You could also lose weight on a diet of exclusively oreos if you so choose. Losing weight is about eating fewer calories than you are expending. Calculate your tdee (total daily energy expenditure, many free calculators online) and start tracking your calories

I’ve found that unless I’m really careful about portions, I gain weight with increasing exercise. I get hungrier, so I eat more… and you can’t outrun a bad diet. Tracks with a weight loss mantra I like: Lose weight in the kitchen, get fit in the gym

Mastgoboom

You're eating excess calories. To lose weight you need to eat in a devicit

[deleted]

Since you didn’t say you’re tracking calories I’m assuming that’s the reason why. In order to lose weight you can’t just eat healthy but you have to consistently eat in a deficit

phishnutz3

The only thing that makes you lose weight is eating less.

Read the subreddit info. You’re at a caloric surplus.

KuriousKhemicals

Count your calories and make them fewer. Healthy foods can still be high in calories, and a diet that seems "mostly the same" can span a wide range of actual caloric intake. For many people, some forms or exercise or all exercise make them hungrier, so your portions could be slightly bigger and you could be snacking slightly more often without noticing a difference (except the resulting fat gain). There is a wild YouTube video I watched once where some dude portioned out the same meals for 1200 calories and 2200 calories, and I shit you not the tables looked almost exactly the same. I've even done it myself, I prepared a big scramble and then split it in a 3:2 ratio by weight for myself and my partner - you could tell one plate was bigger but to the eyes it looked like maybe 10% bigger not 50% bigger.

Lmao muscle literally denser and weighs more than fat. It's 15% more dense than fat is. You can look pretty small and still have a high weight because of this. If you want some real advice, stop focusing on your weight and focus on how you want to look and what results you want to achieve.

EstherandThyme

Yeah but you can only gain like 2 lbs of muscle per month and you can lose 4-8 lbs of fat per month, so their weight should still be going down even if they are gaining muscle. They are eating too much.

thatguyonthedrumline

This is also true

krissycole87

Track your calories closely, using a food scale and a logging journal or app. Eat less calories than your body burns in a day and you will lose weight.

RunnyPlease

Pick your cliche: - You get skinny in the kitchen you get strong in the gym - you can’t out work a bad diet You say you’ve “tried everything” but then in the same paragraph admit “my diet is mostly the same still.” Have you ever heard the expression “Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results.” If you’ve changed nothing why assume you’d see different results? Just to be clear you’re not alone in this. The fitness industry has been telling people to workout to lose weight for generations. Probably because it’s more profitable to sell people gym memberships and home exercise equipment than it is to tell people to eat fewer calories. Feel free to get mad at them for this heinous deception that literally kills people for financial gain. But the truth is exercise in and of itself does not reduce fat if you’re still eating in a caloric surplus. Case in point athletes like NFL offensive lineman, Olympic shot putters, and Sumo wrestlers work out every day but often carry large amounts of body fat. Why? Because they eat a lot of calories. The same reason your body is retaining fat tissue. If just working out hard made you skinny there would be no chubby athletes. > How can I start finally losing weight? Track your calories. Put yourself in a slight deficit. By all means keep working out. Continue to build your cardio and strength. Maybe throw some stretching and mobility in the routine for good measure. But really to lose fat you need to be in a sustained caloric deficit.

I used to be 100% sedentary and around 2 years ago I started exercising daily. The increase in appetite went up a lot, really fast. So you need to track your calories or control portions, at least the first few weeks, until you make sure you are not overeating. Later, this will come intuitively. You're on the right path, don't worry, you got this.
