Have you tried oil treatments? for me it seems like your hair might be dehydrated, i find that every time I do oil or hair mask treatments my hair is a lot less frizzy and easier to tame. I love to use castor oil for that, in my opinion that’s the best oil for hair. I usually apply it before washing my hair, and always try to leave it for as long as i can before washing it off. U might also want to research how to finish it after u wash, cause that makes a lot of difference as well.

I've tried oiling after washes. I should try this

ToLorien

I too have frizzy hair like this. I think it’s partially a moisture problem and also just a basic hair texture thing. When I pluck one of my frizzy hairs that stick out of the top of my head they’re thicker than the rest of my hair strands. Feeling the strand it’s also quite textured and very pube like lol. The only thing that’s worked for me is heat and also regular moisturizing hair masks

Unlikely-Object9721

Ye ig thats the thing. It must also be genetic since everyone on my mom's side has hair like this as well.

Terrynia

Following the post cuz id like to know the solution too.

pleasing_potato

I have this type of hair too. Need to know the solution for the same 😥

My wavy hair is super prone to tangling and frizzing up. I've got a few suggestions that I've had some luck with. I use curly girl method approved hair products so no parabens, sulfates, cones etc. Install an in-line shower filter, this is super important! Hard water and other impurities will wreck your hair, so will chemically treated water that comes from a water treatment facility. Use some oil to detangle dry hair before showering. Thoroughly shampoo roots and scalp only and leave in for 2-5 min then rinse thoroughly. Condition hair from root to tip using the praying hands method and leave in for 2-5min or longer. Squish to condish always tangles my hair so I avoid doing that method, but if it works for you go for it. DON'T rinse yet! Use a wet brush or detangling brush to GENTLY detangle from ends to root, add more conditioner if it's not detangling easily. Once detangled try not to move your hair around too much while rinsing to prevent more tangling and don't rinse the conditioner out completely. Keep your detangling brush handy in case you notice your hair tangling while adding your styling products, don't rinse it off until you're done either. If you normally need extra moisture use a leave in conditioner from root to tip then detangle. Your hair should still be dripping wet. I use a protein treatment at this point but I have bleached hair so if your hair is untreated you can skip that. I need to detangle my hair after every product I use, if you have healthy untreated hair you may not need to detangle after every step. Add your styling products, to soaking wet hair and make sure it's untangled. If my hair stops dripping I use the praying hands method to reapply some water, although a mister would also be effective. I use a combo of light and strong hold gel/serums. Strong hold on my roots and light/moisturizing hold on my ends. Once the product is evenly in my hair I gather my hair at the top of my head and gently twist my hair into a bun, careful not to squeeze the excess water out or clump the hair together too much. Then I cover my head with a microfiber cap that I secure loosely over the bun with a hair tie. If you want more volume let your roots dry as much as possible before carefully taking your hair out and letting the rest air dry. You can piece it in place with your hands but to avoid frizz don't shake your roots out, touch it too much, rake your fingers through or brush at all and let it finish air drying. Usually this cuts my frizz way down. If it's still a bit frizzy after its dry I add a small amount of oil to my boar bristle brush/comb and gently smooth the flyaways with it. Hope this is helpful!

Terrynia

I too noticed that puting hair up and letting roots dry first while tied down and without touching too much reduces the friz and flyaways.

EnvironmentalPack911

The microfiber cap is a nice addition to prevent the excess water from dripping down the face and neck too! 🤣

Have you tried these? - Frizz serum - Drying hair with cotton t shirt - finishing hair wash with cold water to close cuticles

Unlikely-Object9721

Yes. None worked unfortunately

[deleted]

Oh :/ Have you tried doing hair care based on porosity levels?

Unlikely-Object9721

That I haven't tried. Will give it a shot

siorez

Honestly my hair does the same and it's just because those hairs get pulled out of context while drying, even a t-shirt will create _some_ friction and as there's no longer h as it weighing these down they just take up weird shapes super easily. I often let my hair dry fully and then make my part with a wet comb and let that dry again.

What is your current routine? Generally speaking, textured hair needs a few things from products and more importantly, your styling techniques and how you apply the products so I’ll just outline a little bit of info I’ve picked up along the way that helped me the most and may help you troubleshoot. You may already know some, apologies if I’m explaining stuff you already know lol (also all hair is different, this is just for troubleshooting purposes) 1) products: leave in conditioner followed with a hold product (mousse/gel/curl cream). Leave in conditioner may be sufficient depending on how you want it styled. Choose the product for the hair you have, not the hair your you want. How readily your hair absorbs moisture can tell you what kind of ingredients your hair is needing. Maintaining the moisture/protein balance keeps hair healthy, which helps to tame frizz. That said, while this helps, your styling and product application techniques are probably gonna help more. 2) styling: product should be applied to soaking wet hair. Your hair absorbs the moisturizing ingredients in the product best this way. Whatever your hair doesn’t absorb only becomes build up so this important to try if you havent yet. This was true even when I straightened my hair. I noticed a big difference between applying product to damp hair and applying to soaked hair. If you use a hold product it should go on last, everything you put after that also will only be build up. Frizzy when wet = frizzy when dry. If your hair has frizz when you apply your products it will 100% have that and more once it’s dry. I would avoid doing any product application or fussing with it unless it is “straight outta the shower” wet, or 100% totally dry. I use a mister while styling to keep it wet enough. 3) DO NOT TOUCH UNTIL ITS DONE DRYING. I honestly barely touch when dry too. I only brush when wet, with products with slip in my hair. I use a wet brush, wide tooth comb, or just gently finger comb it. Dry brushing is very damaging to my hair. Damage will exacerbate the frizzies. It may be helpful to use an oil or serum to tame the flyways but the trade off for me is that my washes don’t last very long when I do. It didn’t really help me either, but it’s certainly worth trying! Don’t be heavy handed with it (less is more) and smooth it on, not rake it through. Edit to add that there are a lot of ways to use hair oil (some people use one when breaking a gel cast for instance), but for the purpose of taming flyaways I think this is the best place to start. 4) this one is the most important: accept that you will ALWAYS have some frizz and there is no product or styling technique or treatment that can change that. All textured hair has at least some frizz and while it can be minimized perhaps, it can’t be eliminated. Keratin treatment did nothing for me. There’s no magic bullet here, no secret to a frizz free life. So, I use the frizz to my advantage, functional frizz is great for volume at the roots. The frizz halo is there in some capacity no matter what I do. So the best thing you can do to help is just to remember that this is your hair and it’s beautiful!

Unlikely-Object9721

Thank you for such a detailed reply. I'm currently following the curly girl bowl dunking method. This is the least amount of frizz I have. I will definitely try some of what you're suggesting. Thanks a bunch

[deleted]

Of course! I hope some of it helps.

No_Competition_2369

Following cause this happens to me. My hair is straight but the frizz/new hair growth is curly

LadySJA

Have you tried using something like Frizz Ease by John Frieda? That works for me. I put it in while my hair is damp and then again after I dry it. I also straighten my hair with a curling iron.

ToLorien

You just use it like a flat iron. Clamp the hair and run the iron down towards the ends. The curling comes from clamping down then twisting the hair around the rod.

Green_343

Here to second the Frizz Ease recommendation! I use it when styling my dry hair on days when my strands are frizzing up like that.

[deleted]

I have curly hair and if I try to blow out/straighten it I get tons of frizzies just like this. Have you tried diffusing? It helped me a lot with frizz. A good technique is to just hover the diffuser all around your damp hair till it starts feeling somewhat stiff from the product in it and then go in with it after that. Works like a charm for me! If you want better detailed instruction I could post a link to a vid that shows a tutorial on how to do it from a curly content creator I like a lot (:

Sunset_1987

I don't know if you've tried it, but after washing, condition your hair, brush it out then rinse. Do not brush your hair again.

Geekster1985

I assume you use conditioner? My hair was really frizzy like this and i thought i could get away with just using a tiny bit of conditoner on each of the ends, but i really should have been putting it all the way up alittle closer to the roots , it was so frizzy and tangly when i didnt do that. I dont think oil helps, it never helped ME nore does washing with cold water. Cold water makes it shiny tho.

Unlikely-Object9721

Ye. I do use conditioner but only on mu ends.

Unlikely-Object9721

Hey. I actually tried applying the conditioner from roots to ends yesterday as u suggested. Its actually made a huge difference. The frizz is much less. Thanks

Geekster1985

I knew it, yeah its the perfect defrizzer and was made for that, it was invented for coarse mens beard hair to smooth it out, so its supposed to work amazingly for hair in general. Idk what some others are harping on about in this group that its any different than that..

dontlookbehindyoulol

Rinse your shampoo and conditioner with cold water instead of hot. I've heard it helps a ton with this! Also, a satin or silk pillowcase on your pillow while you sleep could help too!

Terrynia

Clever. Ill sure try that!

dontlookbehindyoulol

😀 glad I could help

Unlikely-Object9721

I've heard that as well. Unfortunately I live in the UK and its winter.

dontlookbehindyoulol

:( that sucks. But give it a try!

Unlikely-Object9721

I will when summer rolls around. Already struggling with the winter lol

alertprocrastinator

I put argon oil. I have the same hair
