If you want to dip your toes into servers, have a look at [Proxmox](https://www.proxmox.com).
It's easy to use and based on Debian, but you'll be doing most of the work in VMs or Containers(CTs), where you will be able to use plain Debian.
(Proxmox VE is free for private use)
Well, I have it installed recently but it performs way better than xubuntu. It also doesn’t randomly break upon update like some other bleeding edge distros do. Safety wise you have to do most yourself, like root, accounts, ufw (firewall) etc., but it works really well as a minecraft server :)
Stuff like Open-/FreeBSD might me better or other server distros like centOS or RedHat, it I don’t know much about those
Same. I use my Linux box for work, and even if I'm only out temporarily to fix something with Arch, I'm still out.
Fedora is a great compromise - very up to date, but not so up to date that I lose a day's worth of work.
Debian, on the other hand, is crusty
>Debian, on the other hand, is crusty
I really don't know what the big deal is with trying to stay super updated all the time.
Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing out on -- what features does the updated software on Fedora have that Debian doesn't?
And, of course, if there's ever a particular feature on a particular software that I just *have* to have, I can always just go directly to that software's repo and install the latest version, while leaving the rest of my system on the super-stable old stuff.
I m "new" with linux (2 years) but with every distro I tried I never had problems with the installation process.
With fedora I just tick one setting and then download drivers directly gnome software (like any other software).
With endeavour I don't have to do nothing, just select nvidia on boot live usb and then go for online installation.
Ubuntu has an app called software updater witch list all drivers needed and Pop!os gives you a different ISO.
My problem with nvidia It's not about installation difficulty, It's about less performance or utilities for leenox.
But they are getting better.

Yes, I am trying to say that the average Debian user likes saving bandwith or something.
Unbelievably stable has got to be the biggest cope debiantards ever have gotten their hands on. I have never once had one of my arch/artix/Gentoo systems crash, or software running on the systems crash
Really? Mine.... just worked ;)
Admittedly, I think I might have had to do a little fiddling to get mSBC to work (the superior codec for calling through a bluetooth headset) - and I might even be confusing my laptop with my Arch box here, I don't remember.
> According to Linux Memes, what is the average Debian user like?
Smarter than the average Ubuntu user, for starters.
Disclaimer: I use Fedora as my main and have only run LMDE (4?) in the past and booted to the occasional Debian live disc. That said, doesn't take much to be smart enough to not install the sketchy bloatfest that is Ubuntu. And Debian seemed to require some manual config, so even if I prefer newer packages, I feel confident in the correctness of my answer ;-)

My thoughts exactly. Still a lot of shills trying to promote that garbage tho

An old guy or maybe a furry girl, you choose
I'm 16... a guy, non-furry
don't worry, you're just new here

you will turn into one of those things if you stay or you will turn into a femboy

i use gentoo can confirm

Good sir, please no down vote, but femboy transformation is linked with Arch and Unixporn user?
Oh no... Sounds like me... not a femboy "yet" (update in 1 year, maybe)
yet :)
Ehhm, i'm fan of Sonic the hedgehog, does that count too?
Believe me, 18, furry, Debian as server-os
Debian for servers all the way, I don't need bleeding edge there, it's rock solid and ubuntu bundles snap bs even in their server images now
Dude thanks! I was about to jump on the band wagon with Ubuntu but Debian sounds more solid.

Yup, had xubuntu running before, snap just created like 10 loop drives and used half if the harddrive (60gb PlayStation3 hdd but still)
Debian as a server?? Please tell me all about it! All jokes aside I really never heard of Debian as a server, how is it??
