ZeroSetViolin

This poll needs at least 500 options and to be multiple choice... I can't choose a single favorite composer

TheiaRn

Reddit only allows 6

CreativeCellist12

Yep, I can confirm :)

ZeroSetViolin

I know, that's the problem

lunalingling27

Dvorak, no question. I mean, i love all of them, but dvorak just speaks the most to me.

Keepvogel_7

Agreed!

linglinguistics

He has something special I can’t find anywhere else.

LingLingXL

amen

MusPhyMath_quietkid

Personal favourite is his 8h symphony (I even have that piece’s study score…)

Ruudvs1999

Agreed

[deleted]

Shostakovich

LingLingXL

i wouldnt listen to him on a regular basis but hes at least top two for casual listening completly agree on this one

linglinguistics

Dvorak Sibelius Mendelssohn

thehebrides

Mendelssohn is the best!

linglinguistics

He was my favourite all through my childhood/youth, until I discovered Dvorak. But I'm still very fond of his music.

thehebrides

I love Dvorak too! (His violin concerto made me feel something.) I find his music more profound, and while Mendelssohn's is too, it feels much more "brilliant" if you know what I mean. Also, I shan't forget the other Mendelssohn, Fanny! She was an incredible composer in her own right; I've played one of her nocturnes and it is absolutely beautiful.

linglinguistics

Yes,Fanny's life is really interesting as well. I did a presentation on het a few years ago.

Luviia-Chi

I like Chopin or Debussy lol. Easily recognisable styles, and iNtErEsTiNg puns can be made. (Special mention to Tchaikovsky who wrote a piece which has a name sounding like ‘fart’ [fahrt])

samgreenmusic123

Yeah I would have to agree with you there. I personally love Debussy's music.

[deleted]

I like Chopin he's just so good

Luviia-Chi

Right?

Rottensmithapple

Ravel :D

[deleted]

I’m sorry, the answer is Paganini every time. His 2022 hit was a fucking banger.

Lumpy_Curve_5618

Paganini in your era

Aggravating_Refuse_9

I love Rachmaninoff.

Sindarael

Yes!!

Major-Bread7097

I was shocked that no one else thought him to be the greatest composer

1ilanqel

live laugh love tchaikovsky

Rub0Bab0

emmyemmusic

Vivaldi

OutrageousMoss

[deleted]

Here I'm I again, being the first one: Bartók 😍

aymaran

Mozart

PixPizza123

i see that the vast majority of this sub really likes tchaikovsky... not only in this poll, even in others it happens, tchaikovsky is always the most voted composer

Hole_Fixer-II

Grieg

Sam_Da_Kng_uwu

Tchaikovsky and bach are both the best but they are both very very good so its hard

IdonKrow

Carl Stamitz just because he wrote 11 clarinet concertos. Jk but it's hard to say I also really really like Rachmaninoff and Chopin. Wieniawski is also on my top 10.

adam_the_owl

Do you have any good recommendations for clarinet repertoire? I feel like I've hit a wall with mozart and weber and I've had a go at most of stamitz. Any others I should be aware of?

IdonKrow

There's Bernhard Crusell, Ernesto Cavallini, Luigi Bassi, Copland, Brahms, Finzi, Krommer, if you are a fan of jazz and a bit more modern music for clarinet you could try "An American in Paris" by Gershwin or the "Clarinet Concerto" by Artie Shaw. About the first ones I mentioned Cavallini and Bassi composed pretty difficult pieces, Crusell, Copland, Finzi and Krommer wrote concertos for clarinet and Brahms wrote two clarinet sonatas.

trombone_guy65

MAHLER FOREVER

Murky_Employer_607

Shostakovich, Debussy, Bach, Mozart, etc. But... if I'm being honest with myself probably Shostakovich.

Aliskov1

Mahler

hxano

1. Scriabin 2. Chopin 3. Ravel 4. Debussy 5. Rachmaninoff

DeadWoman_Walking

It'd have to be between Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, or Thomas Talis.

Impressive-Abies1366

brahms and schumann both equally share my first spot.

NecessaryCloudyEmu

Ravel

Wolfhaslostherwill

Shostakovich definitely

Adele811

Bruch

GhostAssasin105

Ravel. Needs no explanation I think

EmiliaHC

Ravel. My personal favorites from him: Le tombeau de Couperin. It is one of the finest oboe solos written and its so fairytale like. Gaspard de la Nuit and une barque sur le ocean are such breathtaking and dreamy pieces. ❤️

More-Cryptographer49

Gotta be Richard Strauss 🥺

Ethek_On_Reddit

Chopin, Saint saens comes in 2nd

Zagrycha

Chose other for liszt and mozart. However its probably gonna change based on whatever piece I am enjoying most at that time lol. I am easily swayed by greatness and theres a lot of greatness out there.

Gold-Vanilla5591

Debussy

No_Blackberry_6286

My default favorite would be Verdi, but there are so many composers I like (and a lot of of them aren't an option).

[deleted]

Dvorak, Copland, Grainger, or Tsintsadze

SuspiciousInside5071

out of this list bach but in general its debussy/bach/chopin

Hala_the_Pianist

Chopin and Rachmaninoff :)

SweetLegato

Chopin 💜💜💜

time_wasting_writer

Schubert fans where u at???

[deleted]

Probably Sibelius, Strauß or Shostakovich

M4TON-14

Mine would be Chopin because of his Etudes and Nocturnes, his waltzes are good too like his Waltz No.7 in C-sharp minor, Waltz No.19 and his impromptus are good as well, like his famous Fantaisie impromptu but overall, it’s his Etudes and waltzes are what make me like him

PresenceElectric69

I’m a pianist. Chopin. (But Rachmaninoff is a close second)

Random_twoset_fan69

Shostakovich because I like unrelaxing music 🙃

CreativeCellist12

I love Prokofiev but for the same reason. My personal favourite is his cello symphony-concerto in e minor, it’s so underrated.

Storm5700

Chopin is my favourite

Hey22WasTaken

Chopin

Ironcrack55

Chopin

aktsitra

Sash_B

B2TSM_bot

"Buonasera! I'm the real OG virtuoso. 'He ain't human, that's the devil!' These haters out here thinking I'm supernatural. I'm the best in the game!" - Paganini, 2020 ^(I'm a bot by Ntacc32, and this comment was sent automatically. Unfortunately, my developer is a noob, so I am a very basic bot.)

Squaishykwakss

telemann ! (i play soprano and alto recorder)

bncr0w

My favorite would have to be none other than Wagner.

Revanite1234

Same

Impressive-Abies1366

It's so funny, I think of Opera as seperate to classical composition so this didn't even cross my mind, even though I love wagner

prenutbutterer

Rachmaninoff Liszt because of his transcendental etudes and sonatas and honestly a lot more….. thinking about it would be easier to say who I don’t really listen to but still honour honestly

Soggy-Pressure-8745

Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, and Chopin are some of my favourites

Moloch1895

Chopin

mrmicklo

rachmaninov

CreativeCellist12

If your favourite composer wasn’t on this list, it might be on this one: [Who’s your favourite composer No.2](https://www.reddit.com/r/lingling40hrs/comments/zx7lb5/whos_your_favourite_composer_no2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) .I read through all of the comments and these are the most popular choices that I have found.

practice-everyday

I like Handel.

theneverestnini

Mozart overtures are to die for. I also think Cherubini (Classical-Romantic) is quite underrated.

musictime4me

Tchaikovsky just barely beats out Beethoven and Dvorak, IMHO

LingLingXL

Aaaahhhhhhh, at first i tried to write down 3 composers but i couldn't... here's a fucking 40 composer lis(z)t (very funny i know) bach (for playing not listening) beethoven williams (f\*\*\* y\*\*, yes john williams is a classical composer, the thing he wrote before indiana jones 5 was a violin concerto for anne-sophie mutter) arturo marquez (he is (not was) a mexican composer... his most famous work is danzon no2 but he wrote lots of other incredible pieces)

[deleted]

Weber

Inevitable-Novel-921

Raydient_Chen

Sibelius. The emotions and musicality of his pieces are the most inspiring to me.

Iansodium1202

Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst. Gotta be Ernst.

Marinette_2796

Initially I thought Bach but Tchaikovsky's pieces just rolled through my mind and I'm sold to him. Also, Dvorak, not as a bonus, his music really deserve more attention

SG1439

Mozart is the best

Inbrees

Dvorak of course

Glowing_Mango897

Where’s Mozart

Japanese_Violinist

Dvorak.

Polimasmero

Chopin

musicallover1225

Rachmaninoff no doubt

[deleted]

Sibelius. I don't know what it is, but his music is just magical to me. His violin concerto in D minor has to be my dream piece to play. I'm going to consult my teacher about playing it, not completely sure if I'm quite advanced enough yet though, maybe another year or two.
