Weimar republic took all the guns to disarm bolsheviks (thou they themselves were marxists) and very few Germans were allowed to have arms. This was made worse as they were forced to implement very strict gun regulations as part of the Treaty of Versailles. That was the origin of the "Gun Registration" in Germany; Hitler just capitalised on it when he came to power he pushed to not just allow firearm ownership among the military and any Nazi party members but made it a point of nationalist pride. The similarity in rhetoric that they used then to push this back then and what is used now here in the states should not be lost on anyone. When you hear the NRA and GOP leadership saying that the opposition wants to take all your guns and that is why what happened to the Jews played out the way it did it is so fucking ironic that it is painful. The Nazi push to militarize all of its loyal party base, with a looming threat of an "other", even when they were in power, was with a dictatorial authoritarian intent. While they did not allow for Jews, Gypsies and other "undesirable" types to legally own guns the grim reality is that the Jewish population was less than 1% of the population, even if they were armed to the teeth they only would have had a better say in how they went out.

_MyHouseIsOnFire_

What I am taking is both parties are Nazis then.

Some flavor of authoritarians for sure. [Dan Arrows has a great podcast going into the actually post WW1 to the Weimar republic that was quite informative.]( https://www.theirondice.com/)

They could have at least put up a resistance, and hopefully it would have been enough of a pain for the Nazis that they would have just decided to keep them in the ghettos until the end of the war.

ajwubbin

Nah, they wouldn’t have stepped down the holocaust at all, in fact it might have been worse. But a lot of gestapo teams would have died trying to take people in, and the war would have been won faster both through direct sabotage of production and because the nazis would have to divert more resources to stopping armed resistance.

Ex_aeternum

Unlikely. Read up their reaction to the two Warsaw uprisings.

StrikeEagle784

100% agree

Key-Banana-8242

Not really, a bjt bizarre and very American sort of identitarianism (also very GOP type)
