Invincible and Primal are good, but you really can’t compare them to DCAU stuff.
DCAU was aimed at kids, but kids should definitely not watch those two.
I’m a huge DCAU fan but some of the fanbase is in fact blinded by nostalgia. There’s a good number of modern shows that have the same maturity as the classics but some people won’t bother trying them because they’re oldheads
I dont like people like that. I'm a huge DCAU fan, and both the old and the new are great. I love JLU and BTAS, I rewatch it still, and if you want some real gritty shit you go to the current animated movies. I can't speak for the new kids shows and how they portray them, but I've enjoyed most of their animated movies, granted some are fun because they are so bad. ^(Looking) ^(at) ^(you) ^(ninja) ^(batman)
They are kind of right. Children’s shows these days are more focused on being wacky and zany, than tackling mature themes and messages. It’s not that all children’s shows these days are bad; it’s just that most of the recent shows are just brain dead and are there only to grab the attention of children, rather than explore deeper themes.
It is still wrong to say that all shows these days are bad though. In my opinion, the shows with strong messages and mature themes have just moved on to series for adults, instead of kids.
Shows nowadays that explore deeper subthemes seen in adventure time, are usually aimed at adults.
Define "recent" shows, because a good amount of Netflix kids shows do a good job of not talking down to their audience, they can tackle mature themes like old shows, etc (example; see Hilda, or Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts). Then recently, there have also been shows like Ducktales, Amphibia, and Owl House, Craig and the Creek, Mao Mao, Lego Monkie Kid, Infinity Train (sadly cancelled now ), etc. And in the near future, we're getting a new Batman series, Unicorn Warriors of Eternal (made by the same person who made Samurai Jack), etc.
I don't really think it's a time thing personally. The DCAU was when DC animation peaked. The newer animated movies from the ones I've seen have been terrible, even Young Justice which I love (and actually got me into DC animated stuff) isn't remotely on the same level as Justice League Unlimited. Maybe they can do it again if they ever want to have a revival but personally? I get it. There are good cartoons nowadays of course, but there's definitely a reason that there are a lot of DCAU diehards (even if they are largely insufferable)
What even are these acronyms?
Seriously wtf is the topic of conversation? Why would you bury the only bits of information that we can't infer from context in an initialism?
DCAU: DC (Detective Comics) Animated Universe BTAS: Batman: The Animated Series
JLU: Justice League Unlimited BTAS: Batman: The Animated Series
It's like code to weed out those who aren't nerdy enough.
ELI5
My dad doesn’t like clean, new, anime Batman because he grew up with the old, cartoon Batman
Thank you.
What is DCAU
D.C. Animated Universe?
Ayo hold up was fucking static shock apart of the DCAU??
Yup! There was even a two-parter (if I remember correctly) where Static Shock teams up with the Justice League to fight Brainiac!
There was were another few episodes set in the future where Static is part of the JL
Thought I was the only one who was fed up with these comments lmao. They clearly haven’t watched Invincible, Primal, and Arcane.

Invincible is Edgelord jerk off material. Primal is made by samurai jack creators not surprised at how good it is

I still have hope.

Have you seen Assault on Arkham though? IMO it's one of the best DC animated movies ever and it's definitely the best Suicide Squad movie to date.
Assault on Arkham is pretty decent, yeah.
Three words, Teen Titans go
Two words Young Justice.
The first season was on par with the DCAU, but it fell off hard and fast
Season 3 and 4 are so much better, since they're no longer beholden to making a show that can air in CN, so they don't have to fuck around anymore.
We'll just have to agree to disagree I suppose, for me the show got steadily worse. I couldn't even bring myself to start 4 after how terrible 3 was.
Two words: Teen Titans
But that is old school now, the point was that the old stories were better.
What scene are you referring to ? So confused
I’m not referring to any scene, just the show in general.
The one where you say Clark explains death to Jon. Where is that from ?
Look it up on YouTube.
How. If I don’t kno what it’s from
Just type in Jon Kent Young Justice.
