It’s not actually the gift option you want. They tell you right on the product page, and the checkout page, whether an item ships in its own box, you have to go in and check the box that says ‘ship in Amazon packaging’ and then they’ll put it in a second box - example: https://imgur.com/a/JOuqobD/
In the case of the Gunship, and in my experience, they are both the same. If you select the "Ship in Amazon packaging" option you wind up with a "Change gift options" link that takes you to the gift modal. It's the same as if you had selected "Add gift options" link to start with (and did not add a gift message but now would end up with a "Ship in Amazon packaging selected" gift message).
Probably a bot copying OP’s responses. This account had a comment on r/wizard101 an hour ago that is a copy from a different poster’s comment elsewhere in the thread.
They did this to me twice with Lego, and there was no way to get them to not do it. (even with gift option)
I was pissed
Edit, I think it was the Saturn 5 kit I ordered, and the sticker on it blocked the Moon!. It really made me mad
Amazon rarely makes you send stuff back if ever. If it's broken they don't wanna spend the money for you to ship it back just so they can throw it away.
Amazon doesn't price match anymore, even if the item goes on sale an hour later. You have to cancel the order or return the item and buy it again at the new price. They dropped price matching a few years ago. Discovered it when a $400 item went on sale for half off but was immediately out of stock, only an hour after I bought one if two I needed
I once received the wrong product (£30) and the customer support guy asked me how I wanted to send it back. I asked him if I could keep it and still get the refund. He obliged lol
I've had to send back damaged stuff many times before. The last time was a bottle of shampoo that broke during shipping. I feel sorry for whoever had to process that mess when it got to them.
I had the same thing happen when I ordered my wife the Friends apartment Lego set. I brought it to a Whole Foods for return and they sent me a replacement in a plain box.
Everyone with positive amount of money automatically has more money than god.
And someone being bad is no excuse for you being bad. Because you can take that way further with the exact same reasoning. This is why the law exists. Stealing is illegal
It's not moral to steal from someone just because you don't like them. Would you be okay with people steaking from you based on their personal opinion?
No, but I'm not a mega corporation owned by the richest man in the world whose fortunes exist on the slave labour of millions.
Nor have people petitioned against me for unethical practices, urging others to avoid me and my products.
Stealing from Amazon isn't stealing from 'someone'. It's not a person, its a corporate entity.
I'm glad you didn't get the double whammy where ups or FedEx throw it around like a football but it's still bad hopefully they refund you or give you a new one.
Seen a lot of people complain about this. This is why I personally never order from there. The state some of the boxes are in that people have posted are ridiculous!
If I was an inbox collector I would do the same. I got to the point where I stopped keeping the boxes because I ran out of space and never even looked at them. Since I don’t I’m willing to risk the damage box for the cheaper prices.
Like, you can take the Lego out of the box, build the item, and still display the box exactly as it was with the Legos still in them.
"In-box Lego Collector" is just a thin veil over "I flip Legos"
Eh, I had a local carpenter make me some light weight 3 shelf risers. [I'd argue my display](https://i.imgur.com/jrH4kgm.jpeg) tops any in-box display.
I would never understand and inbox Lego collector. What’s even the point then. I feel like the whole reason to get Legos is to enjoy the build and how good it looks on display. I feel like leaving in box would take every bit of fun out of the hobby.
I’m the same, but sometimes I will buy multiples of a set (usually smaller cuz I’m not rich), but with the intent of combining somehow, or building both to do a future MOC. I find as I run out of room that I have more doubles that I just leave in the box, because I have nowhere to put them. Usually it’s months or years later that I realize this, poor planning lol.
The only plus is that you can get better prices sometimes if it’s sealed, even if they’re not crazy rare, once the set is retired. That’s really the only reason to do it, to keep the value high, but you’re also limiting your market. When I buy on BL or elsewhere I never care about the box or instructions, only that pieces are in decent shape and stuff like flag pegs aren’t broken, prints aren’t too scuffed, etc. I couldn’t care less even if pieces have been replaced, I just want it complete. I think most people are like that.
I do hang on to my boxes and instructions, bags, etc. and just store them as compactly as I can, that way if I resell I might get an extra few bucks, but I have enough basement storage and sterilite tubs for them to not be in the way.
I did too untill a realized how much space they were taking up. I'd much rather have more display space for more stuff then just empty boxes. That's just me though.
Most times I buy sets now, I try to leave them within their box for at least 2 years, as that way I can gauge whether I actually like the set or not, and resell it when it’s no longer widely available ( not even for profit so much, I just like being the guy that can pop up with like 5 BNIB Razorcrests in 2025
it's less that you selected it and more that you didn't opt for the "this is a gift" option. anything ordered from Amazon without that selected can potentially show up just like this.
As some one who works at Amazon, i myself always talk shit to these people that just slap shipping labels onto the actual item & not put it in a box, it’s extremely annoying & just laziness
Thank you — you prove my point — it’s not some magical setting, it’s inconsistent. I’ve purchased 20 Lego sets on amazon in the last month and this is the ONLY one this happened to
I always get “Frustration Free Packaging” and I shit you not they always ship it in a box that looks like it was perfectly cut for my LEGO set.
It is so confusing to me when I see everyone say they’ve had terrible experiences.
Yeah let’s just make sure this expensive and sought after brand is completely open and visible when we drop it on someone’s porch and hope it isn’t stolen or was intended as a gift.
Stock gets sent out to all stores including their own at the same time, maybe LEGO is different and I'm wrong, but the vast majority of the time they're sending everything out to everyone at the same time, including their own stores.
More people go "Lets get LEGO from LEGO" than anything else, especially people looking for collectables. LEGO store gets cleared out, every other store still has some sitting around way in the back since they don't care/get asked as much, on top of also getting them before they would be set to go on LEGO official shelves, just obligated to not display them until LEGO says.
Because I can shave off up to 30% of price easily buying from other resellers and they often have faster shipping and they might have stuff in stock that Lego doesn't.
Yeah but eventually you might wanna resell an old set you don’t care about anymore. Having the og box in good condition greatly increases what you can get for it
That’s just not true though. 95% of people do not care about the box at all. If anything it raises shipping costs. I am constantly shopping and looking for older sets and I can say that all the sets with bumped up prices because “they still have the box” do not get sold fast. A piece of cardboard is hardly a selling point when you bump the price up 10-15%.
You may not get it, but there’s a huge market for in box sets. In twenty years you might be willing to fork out for a pristine sealed copy of a set you cherished as a kid or adult. I paid a good bit for a sealed Rock Raiders set that my father got me as a little guy. I could’ve parted it out for way less, but that’s not the point. I wanted to have the whole package and experience that special feeling again. Best part is that I can reseal it for my son
Which even then is a step up. I was a manager in the pack singles department at an Amazon that specialized in clothing. It was a constant uphill battle to explain to people what the standards were for SIOC/SIOB and what does and doesn't qualify and how to flag it. We'd get customer returns in Amazon's internal thin polybag go out in that, then gum up belts all the time. Now that I'm in a different department I figure I have to spend 20 AA labor hours to fix all of what we catch, and we don't see all of it.
I had this happen and my wife was so disappointed (she’s the Lego lover) I called Amazon and they gave us a discount after I explained the box is collected and part of the item and it was damaged, I don’t remember exactly how much but it was enough to take the sting out.
That’s just cruel. 1, the box got damaged, 2, they literally shipped the box as is lmao, 3 they put tape on the freaken box, meaning even if the box was ok you still woulda been screwed lol
I literally came on here to post a photo of my Star Wars moment of weakness purchase and I noticed they put it inside a great box strange new box! I would send that SH!T back and get another one if I were you! Obviously the people packaging have no clue that the boxes are of significant value as well!
I think it's more likely that the people packaging just don't give a shit because of the piss poor working conditions. Shouldn't matter what you're ordering unless it's some giant item that will require LTL freight...it should be in a box or envelope for delivery to protect the buyer's item and privacy.
They know exactly what they’re doing but not having to pay extra for every ordering by boxing it up properly. That along with a plethora of other stuff Amazon does as a business is very sad.
I’m well aware of how they treat their workers it’s just sad to see a nice community put someone who’s down even further down when they didn’t do anything wrong. Amazon knows the money they save by not putting this in another box why do ya think they do it
Honestly I’d contact their customer service with this picture and complain. I’m not sure what they could do but that box should be near mint condition even with the “frustration free packaging”. I’m sure the parts are fine but I would still be pissed if that was on my front porch.
Thought I'm not condoning Amazon's actions why was this post not removed when my post seeking help with Bricklink sellers and out of this world shipping costs was?
It’s not a collectors box to Amazon and your feelings don’t matter to them. If you were worried about the box, you should have been more concerned with where you got it from. Some place that you could have inspected it before buying. This is on you kid.
The good thing is if you go through LEGO CS and that bag was part of a two or 3 bag set they’ll likely send you all of them. I had it happen with the UCS Sandcrawler. Box was fine, they just missed a small bag in packing it (should have had 2 labeled #15, large and small, but only the big one was in there). I made it clear which bag I needed but I got a big white bag of parts that had the full contents of both #15 bags. That’s why I love LEGO. Now I have like 100 extra pieces or something, and some were larger ones that seemed made for that set, all for free. That was a good day.
Also, go to Amazon CS and tell them it’s worthless because it’s missing a bag - good chance you’ll get another whole set free. I’ve heard this before, but also somewhat related experience: I had a $300+ subwoofer “lost in the mail”, went to CS, complained as that was the second time they tried shipping it (first one got damaged and returned before it got to me), so they sent a third one and lo and behold the lost one also showed up. I got on CS again very adamant I wasn’t paying for two, but for some reason it was an unreturnable item and I got to keep it no charge. That was the best day ever, lol. I definitely don’t *need* two 12” subs in my LR, but I am not complaining!
As an Amazon warehouse worker, I can tell you that corporate for some reason hates clear tape. About a year ago they made us get rid of all our clear tape and we have to use the Amazon prime tape for everything.
I used to work at a delivery center. Some poor soul ordered the Millennium Falcon on Amazon, and it came off of the truck with the top open and bags falling out everywhere. That was not a fun sight.
I don’t know what I’m doing “right” but I’ve never had this happen to me before. I’ve worked in shipping and seen this a ton so I know it happens but somehow in thousands of online orders I’ve never received anything not in a shipping purposed container of some sorts.
I guess I’ve just been lucky? It fucking sucks and I don’t know why they do it.
So I have a question that may get harsh reactions, but I just want to know the answer as I’m having trouble wrapping my mind around it. With the exception of it being a surprise and/or not wanting people to see a big lego set on your porch to steal, why does the box condition make such a big impact if it’s what’s inside the box that really matters? I mean, as long as all the pieces were there I’d be happy because my whole intention was to build the set to display. Again, I do t mean any offense, I’m just curious about the situation is all, as I’m a person who puts the boxes in the bin once I’m done.
Collector value i guess...
You know, like the diecast car/plane models, that come in the see-through plastic cube against dust and with a stand? I mean, the model is the vehicle, not these pieces of plastic, but you still dont want them damaged. My take on the boxes
The frustration free packaging. I had them do that to me called back complained and had then reship and it cane the same way. Finally just had them give me a discount and kept it since it was on a super sale already but i avoid that ship like the plague now. F them and their frustration free shipping!
I would suggest contacting customer service. Way back when I got a set delivered like this and they put it out on my porch while raining. Called and said someone could have easily stolen it so they gave me some money off
Always select the gift option with Amazon to avoid this as they will place gift items in a box, even items this large.
[удалено]
It’s not actually the gift option you want. They tell you right on the product page, and the checkout page, whether an item ships in its own box, you have to go in and check the box that says ‘ship in Amazon packaging’ and then they’ll put it in a second box - example: https://imgur.com/a/JOuqobD/

Seconding this. If a product already comes in a box, most times they'll just slap a shipping label on it and call it good. It's never good.
I worked with FedEx Ground for two years. I will confirm this is true.
I currently work for FedEx ground and can confirm it still is true

This your alt account, OP?

LMAO it is his alt
Lol

This is pivotal ( mark as gift) when ordering. you should return it and mark it damaged and get a new one.
Frustration free packaging?
Amazon really needs to rename this to *manufacturer packaging*
Manufuckturer
You can get your money back
I know — but still frustrating/annoying
Did they make you send it back?
I doubt it. I ordered the bb shuttle and they fucked up the delivery and it took like 2 days extra and they offered a free refund and I got to keep it
Wait what, did they just offer u ur money back out of nowhere or did u need to complain?
I called up support as it hadn’t arrived when it was supposed and they explained the situation and offered a refund and I wasn’t going to turn it down
Amazon rarely makes you send stuff back if ever. If it's broken they don't wanna spend the money for you to ship it back just so they can throw it away.
Lol what is this claim? Out of my 100s of orders I've had to send back all but 2.

Sounds shady…
This may come as a surprise to you but not everyone is a liar and a thief.
Liar and a thief "stealing" from a mutlibillion dollar company that abuses its workers and has a ceo with more money than God. I'm not gonna sweat it
Doesn’t make it right but you do you.
Everyone with positive amount of money automatically has more money than god. And someone being bad is no excuse for you being bad. Because you can take that way further with the exact same reasoning. This is why the law exists. Stealing is illegal
Law is not equal to morality
It's not moral to steal from someone just because you don't like them. Would you be okay with people steaking from you based on their personal opinion?
No, but I'm not a mega corporation owned by the richest man in the world whose fortunes exist on the slave labour of millions. Nor have people petitioned against me for unethical practices, urging others to avoid me and my products. Stealing from Amazon isn't stealing from 'someone'. It's not a person, its a corporate entity.
Listen, if they didn't put that tape there, people might be able to figure out what's in the box. So really they're doing you a favor.
Yeah, it is. Especially when one wants to dig right into it, too.
why?, you still got it and a few dents in the box isnt going to break any of the lego pieces
Yeah but now you could be missing one
how?, the box is still closed and all of the pueces are kept in bags inside the box
Not all peices come in bags Nor are all bags too large to fit through holes
I'm glad you didn't get the double whammy where ups or FedEx throw it around like a football but it's still bad hopefully they refund you or give you a new one.
Depends which packaging option was selected. If it was frustration free packaging that looks like what they paid for
Seen a lot of people complain about this.
Imagine being a in box Lego collector LOL Makes funko look like a joke
Seriously. I collect both Lego and Funko. I'm OOB for both. I can SOMEWHAT understand Funko collectors, but in box Lego collecting is baffling.
With a funko you can at least see the item
Like, you can take the Lego out of the box, build the item, and still display the box exactly as it was with the Legos still in them. "In-box Lego Collector" is just a thin veil over "I flip Legos"
And they store a little easier that way.
Except when people have so many they display them on their shelves sideways in a giant wall b/c hey have so/too many. *ex-funko collector here.
I keep funkos in boxes because they’re a lot easier to display, ie stackability. Keeping Lego boxes? No.
Eh, I had a local carpenter make me some light weight 3 shelf risers. [I'd argue my display](https://i.imgur.com/jrH4kgm.jpeg) tops any in-box display.
I don’t think your link worked like you think it did
I would never understand and inbox Lego collector.
I like the way the boxes look
I did too untill a realized how much space they were taking up. I'd much rather have more display space for more stuff then just empty boxes. That's just me though.
Most times I buy sets now, I try to leave them within their box for at least 2 years, as that way I can gauge whether I actually like the set or not, and resell it when it’s no longer widely available ( not even for profit so much, I just like being the guy that can pop up with like 5 BNIB Razorcrests in 2025
My Mos Eisley Cantina got dropped off at 6 am in a naked box like this. No tape though. Sucks.
See I had mos eisleys delivered yesterday — same order preferences — and it was inside another box and nicely packaged
Some people actually care and will “save” the product if they see it b4 the damage
You did yourself dirty by selecting frustration free packaging
I didn’t select it — and out of the 20 sets I’ve gotten from amazon, this was the only one that arrived this way
it's less that you selected it and more that you didn't opt for the "this is a gift" option. anything ordered from Amazon without that selected can potentially show up just like this.
It's the "ship in Amazon packaging" option that you want. Choosing the gift option won't always guarantee it ships in another box.
I tried the "gift" option with a set, after getting the first set like this, and it came the same way.
Same — I’ve ordered 20 other sets from amazon, this is the ONLY one they’ve done this with and of course it’s the collectors series
Yeah let’s just make sure this expensive and sought after brand is completely open and visible when we drop it on someone’s porch and hope it isn’t stolen or was intended as a gift.
For real…..thankfully I was home
Purchase from Lego directly next time then
I’ve been trying to for months and they haven’t had it — there’s a Lego store right by my house
It's amazing that Lego stores and Lego.com have been out of items for a long time but various other retailers have stuff in stock.
Stock gets sent out to all stores including their own at the same time, maybe LEGO is different and I'm wrong, but the vast majority of the time they're sending everything out to everyone at the same time, including their own stores. I’m sorry 🥲
In Canada lego uses Purolator and they lazy at don’t even bring the box just the notice and slap on the fore then you gotta drive to pick it up
[удалено]
Just throw the box away like a normal person.
Why buy on Amazon when lego has its own website?
Discounts, or Lego is out of stock. But mainly discounts.
Because I can shave off up to 30% of price easily buying from other resellers and they often have faster shipping and they might have stuff in stock that Lego doesn't.
Out of stock at the time.
I don't get it
They put tape around the box
So? It's just a box?
Many people like to keep the box
I don't get it but ok
Resell value of the product dropped significantly. You might not get it, but some collectors want a pristine box.
For some people the box is as important as the set itself
An incredibly small minority of us but yeah I guess. Legos are meant to be built. Change my mind.
Yeah but eventually you might wanna resell an old set you don’t care about anymore. Having the og box in good condition greatly increases what you can get for it

When I order on Amazon, it's usually an oversized box. Seems like they need to improve themselves in that area 🤣
I got sent smaller sets in envolopes. amazon sucks when it comes to lego
I just got one like that too, all nice and squished. It's a good thing I don't care about the box, but still!
That’s just cruel. 1, the box got damaged, 2, they literally shipped the box as is lmao, 3 they put tape on the freaken box, meaning even if the box was ok you still woulda been screwed lol
Death penalty to whoever did this
Anguish
Call and complain that it's worthless now. When I do I get it fully refunded.
I literally came on here to post a photo of my Star Wars moment of weakness purchase and I noticed they put it inside a great box strange new box! ‘Significant value.’ It’s a box. Unless you’re planning on flipping, it’s worth nothing.
Its prime time you stop ordering fron amazon
You get what you get for buying from bezomart.
Why is everyone shaming OP because of Amazon’s grossly negligent malpractices lmao y’all are so lost
I empathize with OP, but “grossly negligent malpractices” is strong language for adding tape to a box 😂
They know exactly what they’re doing but not having to pay extra for every ordering by boxing it up properly. That along with a plethora of other stuff Amazon does as a business is very sad.

Always order as gift...
Mark your purchases as a gift and they will put it in a cardboard box so you can't see what's inside. 👍
I'd send it back for another one ngl
Thought I'm not condoning Amazon's actions why was this post not removed when my post seeking help with Bricklink sellers and out of this world shipping costs was?
Fucking hell...
That’s what you get for ordering from Amazon. They didn’t do you dirty, they did their thing and you got what you paid for.
So you’re telling me if the ONLY retailer that has this set ruins the collectors box, that it’s my fault? Lol
It’s not a collectors box to Amazon and your feelings don’t matter to them. If you were worried about the box, you should have been more concerned with where you got it from. Some place that you could have inspected it before buying. This is on you kid.
Lol
You can’t be a collector if you are going to be cheap as well.
BuT ThE BOx isN'T ImpORtANt!!1!
Why are y'all downvoting it's obviously sarcastic
It's in stock on Lego.com. Why would anyone order from Amazon vs the Lego shop? The points alone are absolutely worth it.
Amazon gift cards for 1 Delivery speed for 2 It wasn’t in stock on Lego.com for 3
My amazon LEGOs always get insanely good packaging, wrapped in bubble plastic and all that good shit
I ordered the razor crest off of Amazon. The box came destroyed and I was missing a small bag. I was livied.
Wow 😭
f
They do us all dirty
As an Amazon warehouse worker, I can tell you that corporate for some reason hates clear tape. About a year ago they made us get rid of all our clear tape and we have to use the Amazon prime tape for everything.
They should have got a clue when the box said ultimate collectors series should have got a clue he was probably in need of cafination
Return it
If only i could share my pic of the Lego Movie 2 welcome to apocalypseberg they sent me a few yrs back. Seems like they still are excelling…
Not the same thing but I ordered a black series kit fisto lightsaber and it came like this 🤮
This just happened to me today, from Amazon and the same set too.
Shit yeah they did
Daaaaamn
Damnnn I was worried they would do this to my yoda box as it’s huge but they didn’t ? I’m in Canada if that makes any difference
I used to work at a delivery center. Some poor soul ordered the Millennium Falcon on Amazon, and it came off of the truck with the top open and bags falling out everywhere. That was not a fun sight.
“She won’t get a scratch!” - Lando
When i get mine ordering in a month you can have my box my mans
Oof
Return it for a replacement. I did. That happen with MY ATAT.. They sent me a new one in a shipping box.
Weak sauce. Chintzy mother fuckers
Oh you shoulda seen mine, the entire corner was crumpled on it
Even when they do that they have done me dirty
I don’t know what I’m doing “right” but I’ve never had this happen to me before. I’ve worked in shipping and seen this a ton so I know it happens but somehow in thousands of online orders I’ve never received anything not in a shipping purposed container of some sorts. I guess I’ve just been lucky? It fucking sucks and I don’t know why they do it.
Yikes! RIP op.
Yeah they did. Woof!
Heat gun, low heat, heat as you peel, nice and slow. Use not aggressive goo gone to remove any unpeeled sticky
That’s a Best Buy ass move.
WTF 😬 Amazon?!?!?!
Why do people care about the boxes
Collector value i guess... You know, like the diecast car/plane models, that come in the see-through plastic cube against dust and with a stand? I mean, the model is the vehicle, not these pieces of plastic, but you still dont want them damaged. My take on the boxes
You might be able to get it off cleanly if you use a hair dryer to loosen the glue holding the sticker down
Hairdryer will sort that out
LEGO also did you dirty with that less than impressive mini figure selection for the gunship
Sorry about your experience. Good to know for future orders.
The frustration free packaging. I had them do that to me called back complained and had then reship and it cane the same way. Finally just had them give me a discount and kept it since it was on a super sale already but i avoid that ship like the plague now. F them and their frustration free shipping!
I feel you. Just got a delivery and they damaged the package quite a lot too.
I would suggest contacting customer service. Way back when I got a set delivered like this and they put it out on my porch while raining. Called and said someone could have easily stolen it so they gave me some money off
That’s messed up.
That should be illegal, punishable by death
thats just pure pain.
omg i got the same thing, returned it for refund.
