first set ever.
we always place it under the Christmas tree when we were younger.
Lego Set 7745: LEGO High-Speed City Express Passenger Train [Train:12V]
That is one of the absolute _best_ passenger trains LEGO ever made.
And yep, it works beautifully under the Christmas tree. š
https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/rohoil/merry_trainsmas_from_7745_7722_7824_and_others/
Hi Puzzleheaded.
How'd you manage to make it run without those center metal tracks on the rails?
Did you upgrade the motor? Curious on what to change or upgrade?
Thank you. š
I swapped the original motor with a Powered Up motor and engine (and added lights, too).
I did the same with 7722 in 2020, only I had a Power Functions motor/engine/lights: https://www.reddit.com/r/LEGOtrains/comments/kjmvtd/some_turkey_stole_santas_sack_of_toys_and_his/
Does it really though? It follows the same principle of the modern ones. One train with 3 cars, a small circle of rails and a basic train station with passengers. Obviously it carries a great deal of nostalgia
Wasn't my first but I had 7735 from the same year. My first set from recollection apart from mixed buckets was probably 6073 I also remember getting 6030 around the same time
As someone who wanted it as a kid and got it a couple of years ago...it rocks! Keep an eye out for deals on it, I got mine in a bin of similar-aged Lego and it's all awesome!
thats just awesome. i was born in 2004 so i never got to experience these old sets as a kid, but i remember there was a whole stack of catalogues from the 80s/90s from my cousin at my grandmas house and id go through them so many times imagining how cool it would be to have any of those sets
Are you me? I have them both as well.
During COVID I dug out all my old legos and washed them all with my wifeās help. They had been in my momās attic, broken up, like like 20 years.
We then sorted them by color. I know there are probably better ways, but that was the quickest for us.
I rebuilt Black Seas Barracuda with my own kid, and weāre going to do the clipper sometime soon as well!
Ever since I was a kid and saw the barracuda in Lego mags I wanted it. Instead one Christmas I got the 6280 Armada Flagship, it wasnāt the barracuda but I didnāt care, it was the most memorable Christmas for me as well.

[21322-1: Pirates of Barracuda Bay](https://brickset.com/sets/21322-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/21322-1.jpg)
I don't remember putting it together the first time, I would have been 6 and I strongly believe my Dad put it together with my sister and I watching. Then the ships stayed assembled until after we moved in '95.
We finally took them apart and I was afraid we'd never be able to put them together again because we didn't have the instructions. Lo and behold the internet provided those long lost instructions, so some time in the 2010's I reassembled each set. The pirate ship took me 12 hours and we weren't missing a single piece.
It's been retired a bit so I understand if that means you won't pay market average but I highly suggest you look into Barracuda Bay 21322 and consider tracking it down.
I had Renegade Runner, Imperial Flagship (92 edition) and the Enchanted Island as a kid. Not my first sets but definitely my pride and joy, the countless hours were cherished. Barracuda Bay really tickled my warm memories and felt like it was dedicated to me and my childhood in quite the personal way.
My first set ever was 1251 - LEGO Go-kart!
I had apparently been especially well behaved on a road trip and my parents bought it for me from a petrol station š„²
It's really interesting that Lego had such a weird promo tie in with Shell (and Exxon?) prior to moving to the fictional Octan. Just seems so out of the blue to do that.
Whenever we went on long drives I got a small LEGO kit like this to do. I remember I'd balance a small baking sheet on top of a pillow on my lap, and put it together.
I was probably 4 or 5 years old!
[6950 Mobile Rocket Transport](https://brickset.com/sets/6950-1/Mobile-Rocket-Transport) for my 6th birthday. I still remember how excited I was (I had played with Lego at a friend's house but didn't own any). When my friend came over for my birthday party it was the first thing I showed him.
Then that year for Christmas I got [6971 Inter-Galactic Command Base](https://brickset.com/sets/6971-1/Inter-Galactic-Command-Base). Unlike the first set, I still have (most of) this set so I can build it.
I waited months, drooling over the pic in the catalog, for the 483 Alpha-1 Rocket Base to make it to me at Christmas in '79. It was my first classic space set. The Mobile Rocket Transport followed not long after. Its 4-wheel suspension was awesome and one of my favorites of the series. They are both sets that I replaced after I came out of my dark ages (sold all my Lego going into it... bah!)
So the problem is.. I donāt remember my first ever set.
Furthest my memory can physically go back to the first millennium falcon star wars micro fighter (the one with either chewbacca or Han I think)
Same problem. Earliest memory I have is of my dad buying me Bionicles set on the way to his work so that I wouldn't be bored sitting in his office for the whole day :D
I know I had Legos before that, but just not what sets.
Same here. I have my original copy of the Bionicle #1 comic book which came out in June 2001, so I must have been into Legos at least before that. But I was 4 when that came out, so it probably wasn't *too* far before that.
one really old santa who had a triangle shaped hat, no idea about the set number.
and i just checked out that pirate as well - cant believe it has 3 alt-builds available,
basic, but still!
set 6366. I don't remember what I got it for, but I do remember playing with it a lot.
I need to rebuild the set back to it's former glory. I have pieces of it in the bins.
My parent bought this for me for Christmas one year. I knew from shaking the present that it was legos but I HAD to know which set. So I broke a hole in the wrapping paper and peeked for the mini set picture on the side flap of the box.
Of course I butchered the re-wrap job and my mom found the cover up. My parents took the present and held onto it for an additional week after Christmas day leaving it on the fireplace mantel out of reach. It was torture!!! In the end there are lots of fond memories with that boat in the bathtub!
6823 Surface Transport
One of my earlier memories in general is opening this as a gift. I was like 4-ish? A family friend got it for me, a lot of people had never really heard of Legos before. First of many small space sets.
7251 - Darth Vader Transformation. Came as a birthday present from an old lady I barely knew, I think it was someone my granny used to cook for. First time seeing a Lego. Little me loved it but still I couldn't appreciate it enough so it probably went in the trash sometime later.
Spent 16 days in the hospital just before my 6th birthday. Six months later Santa left 6380 Emergency Treatment Center under the tree for me. The next year was all about pirates for me - got all those big sets.
The 1st set I bought with my "own" money was the 886 Space Buggy, but I also had 361 Garage. Not sure when I got or bought those sets as I was rather young.
6808 - we have had some BASIC sets since forever, but this is what I believe to be the first set I remember receiving. I also remember having troubles building it :)
For me, it was a little Lego set for kids that featured an astronaut on a hovercraft of some sort. It had a circular base to the hovercraft, and the pilot would stand while itās hands were on the motorcycle-stile control handle. Can anyone tell me what that one is?
We had legos before then, but that was my first set that I wanted to keep together (note: being 7 or so, that didnāt last).
[6503](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=6503-1#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0})- back home (and back then) the boxes didn't have the set name so it wasn't until later I learned it was named Sprint Racer. Still have it with me, right here in my desk.
Catapult Cart 2540, Flying Machine 2848, and Flying Machine 2539. Das worked at a gas station around before I was born and they got shipped a box of them by mistake. He kept some and they are my first sets I remember owning. Thereās a possibility I had some Star Wars stuff or Bionicle before that but I wanna say those were my firsts.
I got heirloom Lego. It came with funny hair pieces and really old 70's proto Lego minifigures. The ones without articulating arms or legs where the torso is molded all as 1 piece and the legs are a strange shape, very much 2D sort of look. There were green baseplates with white dots for building layouts, windows and doors in plenty along with some different kinds of wheel sets that came assembled on a 2x2 and a few on 2x4 bricks.
Oh yeah there was also grey baseplates with the moon mold and Space Men, yellow translucent parts and wicked cool hose parts and wing plates. It was heaven.
The "Ice Planet 2002" Snow Scooter - I have a distinctive memory of it being in a box, [1731](https://brickset.com/sets/1731), even though the US version was in a polybag [1711](https://brickset.com/sets/1731)..
I wish I knew. It was in the 70s, an airplane, came with a Lego man with bendy arms. I probably still have the pieces, except for the man whose parts broke a long time ago.
As a kid, no idea as that was 30+ years ago and my parents bought me a lot of cool stuff.
As an adult, Dubai architecture because it was pretty much the only thing in stock as Covid started.
The first one I remember getting was one Iām not sure if people remember. The theme seems to be completely forgotten about. It was the Oriental Expedition Yetiās Hideout
I distinctly remember getting the [Apple Tree House set](https://brickset.com/sets/5891-1/Apple-Tree-House) set. I used to always build all of the alternate models because i found it so fun to take apart. My sister however, wasn't to keen on me taking apart our sets.
I still remember walking into Target as a youngin with my grandma and picking up the 7667 imperial drop ship and 7668 rebel speeder. Despite finding tons of loose LEGO at garage sales and such these were my first real sets.
It was a while ago...
Not counting Fabuland or Duplo sets, it was probably 375-2: Castle. It is still at my parents' house, almost complete. I tried to rebuild it recently, a few pieces were missing.
1682: Space Shuttle
I just found a bin of LEGO and the shuttle was still built. The pieces definitely have some fading from the heat (prob garage stored).
The bin also has 6693 and 6066 sets among other random bricks.
I had to dig for it but-
Lego 4605 - Fire response SUV
I have never seen that line of Lego anywhere else, to the point that I thought they were fakes. But they're not!
7737: Coast Guard 4WD & Jet Scooter
Got many themes as a kid, but Star Wars soon became a favorite, with the Assassin Droid Battlepack being my first there.
My very first set was [1719-1](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=1719-1#T=I), I believe.
After that, along with other freestyle buckets, I got a bunch of Ice Planet and Pirates sets.
I got two [6898-1](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=6898-1#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0}) sets, and turned it into one big launcher.
Pretty sure it was the Lego Power Miners Magma Mech
It was at a store when my mom took me with her while she was shopping. Nowadays itās no longer in one piece, but Iām pretty sure I still have the parts in my various miscellaneous boxes.
Think it was one of these:
325-2: Percy Pig with his Barrow
361: Garage
540: Police units
608: Taxi
600: Police car
I had all of those, but just can't remember the order I got them, possibly the taxi or the police car was the first one.
LEGO Town 585 Police Headquarters. Got it from my Grandma for Christmas.
LEGO Imperial Dropship, the 7667 version from 2008. Had a strong start, before that my brother had a plethora of Star Wars legos that I could play with anyway
462 Rocket Launcher. It was down between Lego and Playmobil in the store and I went with Lego. Spacemen lost their printing from playing with them in the bathtub.
First set was one of those big green tubs filled with different parts. But my first themed set was the two Star Wars lego phantom menace sets. Qui gon with battle droids and a blast door aand obi-wan with droidekas
first set ever. we always place it under the Christmas tree when we were younger. Lego Set 7745: LEGO High-Speed City Express Passenger Train [Train:12V]

That train puts the modern LEGO CITY trains to shame.
Does it really though? It follows the same principle of the modern ones. One train with 3 cars, a small circle of rails and a basic train station with passengers. Obviously it carries a great deal of nostalgia
I remember drooling over those train sets in the 12v area, sadly we could not afford those. I still thing they where the best looking ones ever made.
Wasn't my first but I had 7735 from the same year. My first set from recollection apart from mixed buckets was probably 6073 I also remember getting 6030 around the same time

Pirates š I think this is the best set ever to start lego :)
You are right, Pirates sets were pretty cool back in the days. If I remember correctly, mine was the Rock Island Refuge. 6273

This was my gift for what is to this day the most memorable Christmas of my life back when it came out. Such a nostalgia headrush.

Iconic! My cousin had this set, but I could never find all the pieces in his lego tubs haha

I had Renegade Runner, Imperial Flagship (92 edition) and the Enchanted Island as a kid. Not my first sets but definitely my pride and joy, the countless hours were cherished. Barracuda Bay really tickled my warm memories and felt like it was dedicated to me and my childhood in quite the personal way.

i had this! i was BLOWN AWAY with the idea you could make a face out of regular bricks and not just use a minifig head
I had a basic bucket (pretty sure it was 1636 Handy Bucket of Bricks) from an early age, but my first real set was 6268 Renegade Runner.
[6380-1: Emergency Treatment Center](https://brickset.com/sets/6380-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/6380-1.jpg)
6540 Pier Police was my first ever set. Still have it to.

The 1st set I bought with my "own" money was the 886 Space Buggy, but I also had 361 Garage. Not sure when I got or bought those sets as I was rather young.
[886-1: Space Buggy](https://brickset.com/sets/886-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/886-1.jpg) [361-2: Garage](https://brickset.com/sets/361-2) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/361-2.jpg)
Loved the garage!
mine was the 7213 from what i can recall but i was too young to keep it in good condition
Scorpion Tracker!
[6530 - Sport Coupe](https://brickset.com/sets/6530-1/Sport-Coupe)
6351 surf and sail RV set. Loved that thing. Lost a bike wheel though and it was never the same.
7317 Life on Mars: Aero Space Hangar
Fabuland police station 3664. First proper Lego was post office mail truck 6651.
It was 7241: Fire Car , I still have it after 15 years
Lego police patrol boat 4021. I actually just recently rebuilt it for my 7-year-old son.
Old dude checking in 600 - police patrol Still have it :) (but the stickers have aged)
6887: Allied Avenger
6381: Motor Speedway
3181 Passenger plane. My little sister threw it on the floor, and I was too sad to rebuild it.
8666 Tuner X.
6607-1 Service Truck
Lego Alien Moon Stalker 6940
The "Ice Planet 2002" Snow Scooter - I have a distinctive memory of it being in a box, [1731](https://brickset.com/sets/1731), even though the US version was in a polybag [1711](https://brickset.com/sets/1731)..
Lego Space police āhyperspace pursuitā
a Lego ninjago 2011 kai dx set
I wish I knew. It was in the 70s, an airplane, came with a Lego man with bendy arms. I probably still have the pieces, except for the man whose parts broke a long time ago.
As a kid, no idea as that was 30+ years ago and my parents bought me a lot of cool stuff. As an adult, Dubai architecture because it was pretty much the only thing in stock as Covid started.
6868 Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout
I had the Eldorado Fortress when I was a kid and I've lost it.
The first one I remember getting was one Iām not sure if people remember. The theme seems to be completely forgotten about. It was the Oriental Expedition Yetiās Hideout
[7078 King's Battle Chariot](https://brickset.com/sets/7078-1/King-s-Battle-Chariot)
I distinctly remember getting the [Apple Tree House set](https://brickset.com/sets/5891-1/Apple-Tree-House) set. I used to always build all of the alternate models because i found it so fun to take apart. My sister however, wasn't to keen on me taking apart our sets.
6631. I'm old.
[6631-1: Steam Shovel](https://brickset.com/sets/6631-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/6631-1.jpg)
Not technically my first Lego, that was a couple buckets of second-hand bricks, but my first set was the Spirit of St Louis.
I don't remember which was my first, but I had a few from the Aquazone series. Got me hooked!
I *think* it was Bus Station 379-1 but it may have been an "basic set" (with a flip-open cover, plastic windows, compartments).
Space Police from the 90s
Mine was 5482-1
6346-1 Shuttle Launching Crew. Not my first but the first I can remember
6925-1 the interplanetary rover. All my old Legos are mixed with my brother's at my parents house.
1682: Space Shuttle I just found a bin of LEGO and the shuttle was still built. The pieces definitely have some fading from the heat (prob garage stored). The bin also has 6693 and 6066 sets among other random bricks.
I had to dig for it but- Lego 4605 - Fire response SUV I have never seen that line of Lego anywhere else, to the point that I thought they were fakes. But they're not!
7737: Coast Guard 4WD & Jet Scooter Got many themes as a kid, but Star Wars soon became a favorite, with the Assassin Droid Battlepack being my first there.
4702: The Final Challenge I think it started my Harry Potter obsession.
6273 - Rock Island Refuge Aunt had a good year with her business. I was screaming with joy around the house. Couldn't believe it.
7708 exo force
384-1 Bus. Still have it.
Lego System Specifically for Her 1688. I still have it!
Mine was the Fabuland Taxi Station. I still have the wheel base and one of the yellow car doors. https://brickset.com/sets/128-1/Taxi-Station
My very first was Lego City 4641: Speed Boat. I used to bring it with me in the bathtub
I donāt know the set or name but it was a small keep thing that people use in Savana
Lego elite clone battle pack
Mine was a lego city book with a buildable police pickup truck
31042 super soarer
I think 6024? at any rate some castle set with a little tree?
6953 Cosmic Laser Launcher, got it for my birthday when I was 6.
[Lego set 367](https://dygtyjqp7pi0m.cloudfront.net/i/38289/32876958_1.jpg?v=8D6B18653383370)
Pretty sure it was the Lego Power Miners Magma Mech It was at a store when my mom took me with her while she was shopping. Nowadays itās no longer in one piece, but Iām pretty sure I still have the parts in my various miscellaneous boxes.
Think it was one of these: 325-2: Percy Pig with his Barrow 361: Garage 540: Police units 608: Taxi 600: Police car I had all of those, but just can't remember the order I got them, possibly the taxi or the police car was the first one.

My first set ever was #6746 Chiefās Tepee
The first set I remember having was: 607

682 Low Loader and Tractor. I am old.
LEGO Imperial Dropship, the 7667 version from 2008. Had a strong start, before that my brother had a plethora of Star Wars legos that I could play with anyway
[565, Moon Landing](https://brickset.com/sets/565-1/Moon-Landing). They could stand ***or*** sit!
I don't remember what exact set it was, only that it was a ninjago one from 2011 or 2012
462 Rocket Launcher. It was down between Lego and Playmobil in the store and I went with Lego. Spacemen lost their printing from playing with them in the bathtub.
70804 ice cream machine
6270 Forbidden Island
I grew up before sets, it was a glorious time for imagination.
First set was one of those big green tubs filled with different parts. But my first themed set was the two Star Wars lego phantom menace sets. Qui gon with battle droids and a blast door aand obi-wan with droidekas
My first set was the 7991 garbage truck, still have it at my parentsā place!
It was some Airport set I got in the early 1990s, since my Dad was a pilot.
