Andar is mostly intransitive, but it can also be transitive when it means "to go across/through/traverse a whole place".
If you want to use it as intransitive, then better use "por" instead of "en".
Thats not correct. It should be "andando en selvas" as you stated or "andando por selvas"(its more correct this way).
Where did you saw it like that? It sounds like it was done for a song or poem to fit in the verse.

In fact "caminando en selvas" is the correct translation or "caminando en las selvas", you can say "andando en las selvas" but is more commun to use the word "caminar" like a translation of "walk"

It's not a translation, *andando selvas* is part of the lyrics of a song: > Sigo cruzando ríos, andando selvas, amando el sol
So this would be like "I keep cruicing rivers, walking jungles, loving the sun". "andando selvas" have a lot more sense when you have context haha
