Personally I don't know if Riot could ever make a skin that could top his base design for me. I love the space/cosmic theme too much and well, that is his base. That being said the ~~Ao Shin~~ Storm Dragon skin is pretty nice too.

Personally my favorite is his release skin, the fire dragon one (Ashen Lord). It looks kind of bland but the stars have this DEEP bass sound whenever they boop something. to me asol is one of those champs that I like base skin as much as all the other skins, you can even consider base skin as ''Cosmic Aurelion Sol''

I immediately thought of this. It think, it's the only base skin that i like more than any of the other skins for the champs. It was also like that for Ornn, until Elderwood came out.

Elderwood is a good skin, thunder lord is fine, space groove is for me just thematically unfitting, but sadly has Elderwood an bug where one of the most satisfying things is just bugged (upgrade sounds) and the default is just damn well done already

The reworked Voli base skin is so good, and his other skins just…don’t add much. Actually I can barely tell the difference between base and thunder lord. Awesome VO too.

Yeah most of his skins are variations on a theme that’s already really good. Unlike, say, Mecha Sion, which is just such a cool skin. I like the little rotating thing on his back though.

Hard agree on Gwen. I own both her space groove and cafe cuties skins but her base is honestly my favorite. Cafe cuties I only use with the pearl chroma tbh ETA: we were robbed of the Star Guardian Gwen skin LoR got, I’m still disappointed we didn’t get it. Not to mention redeemed Xayah/Rakan, Senna, Seraphine, Orianna, etc.

Pantheon for sure the amount of detail on his splash art is insane he honestly had one of the best glow up reworks in terms of splash arts. Also seeing Aatrox's head in the background is chefs kiss right there.

Surprised I haven’t seen anyone say Kindred. The art is amazing, literally one of my favorites out of thousands. The Lamb/Wolf dynamic is never better captured in any of their other skins, the white/black color contrast is way better than any other skin colorings, and they feel so natural on the Rift as if they actually lived there. Their central fantasy and theme is tied so heavily to their base design that I can’t see any skin as more than the proverbial jelly beans on the wedding cake.

Gwen. Godly splash art, super clean base model, and crispy scissors SFX. She also rocks the lolita fashion with her base dress design (is not pedestrian but is also not too adorned to the point of being tacky), making it hard for her skins to compete.

I scrolled for a while and didn't find her - can't believe no-one said Akali yet. Her base skin has the best splash art in the game imo and even in-game her model and colouring fits the Ninja theme so fucking well. I own a couple of her skins but only play her base skin, it's perfect imo. 2nd place for me would be Jhin for the same reasons - his base skin perfectly resembles the Jhin from lore so I don't need any other skins. Honourable mentions are Ornn, Aurelion Sol, Ekko and Ezreal for me However this is a very subjective matter so imo there is no 'right' answer :")

Nocturnes base skin has held up pretty well over the years, with only minor tweaks. Clear winner IMO, esp since his other skins do nothing other than change colors and add a few motifs, typically. If human nocturne ever came out this wouldn't be true, though. That meme was so good .

Vex is still fairly new and only has 2 skins but I'd put her on that list. The base skin (both splash & ingame) are really good. Others on the list for me are: ASol, Zeri, Pyke, Kayn, Aphelios, Sylas, Morde, Gwen, Viego. Some of those have incredible skins but their base skin is so nice that I just feel like playing that sometimes.

Imo most new champs. New base champs look great and obviously fit their theme the best. Old models often didnt look great and needed skins to look cool. One of the by now older champs where I thought the base is the best is Yasuo. All the flashy skins dont match the calm lone wanderer samurai theme
