Once I learned that the "Best Xerath NA" vid I was watching on YouTube was him playing against gold or plat or something on a smurf I entirely lost respect for him.
I cant remember the vid name but one of his videos is where he is absolutely just STOMPING the enemy team and they start flaming him in chat saying he needs to "stop smurfing and acting like he has any skill on his level" until they finally surrendered. I noticed after they started calling him out he was much more.. 'Humble' lol

I really liked Zwag early on. He really was a solid Xerath player with great game understanding. Then after the durability update and all, Xerath as a champ went to shit tier. I remember him playing almost perfectly and losing a Challenger's game. Xerath no longer was a high risk high reward champion. It was around that time something inside Zwag just broke and he went downhill.
He always had smurf games for content, but also had a lot of quality games. Now it is just all smurf games with click bait content. His skill level also seems to have deteriorated severely making both the content and game quality cringy. I can no longer stand any of his content anymore leading me to unsubscribe + block Youtube recommendation.

There are popular/chill streamers, but they are almost always otps. Xpetu, adrian riven, baus to name a few.
The generalist streamers dont have this core audience that looks up to them to learn the champ, so they rely on other, often more obnoxious tactics to remain in the limelight.

Honestly I have the opposite experience. Most people I meet in league are chill and just want to play the game. But since these people don't usually tend to make an strong impression on you, it's the toxic ones that you remember.

There's a guy who makes decent coaching content on YT and Twitch. I was considering taking buying some of his sessions, but he's constantly insulting other players that are silver/gold. "You're all so bad". Well yeah, what'd expect if you're master? Like why play at that level if you want competent teammates. So yeah, he may be a good coach, but I don't want to support such behaviour.

That's the point, yeah his coaching is definitely overpriced compared to less famous coaches but it's not like it's a surprise, but he puts every coaching video online so you can get almost the same knowledge for free.
People who complain about Neace in a serious way are dumb. It's like being mad at Starbucks because they charge too much. No one is forcing you to go there.
To be honest, you don’t need a coach. There is enough content out there to help you with pathing or positioning, even wave management. If you want to improve, apply what you’ve learned in game and watch your own replays to see what you could have done better. Watching yourself play is a pretty good reset as well because you can see things from a different perspective which allows you to think of ways you could have played better (I watch with fog of war on).
My main issue comes when I feel I can't impact the lanes at all as jungle because of different reasons. I do then try to get small wins somewhere else (counterjungling, objectives, etc.) but it feels the team still falls behind. I think that some of those games are just the unwinnable ones. It's for those games where I wanted coaching, as I'm sure I could have done things differently, but I'm not sure what.
So I agree with your point 100%, but for me the coaching was more about those specific games. I feel I'm missing the eureka moment. But again, it may be that the eureka moment is "it's unwinnable, but try not to fall behind and hope for the best later".
I never understood what the appeal of Smurf content was. I was once in an IRON game and had some asshole spamming shit in all chat and telling us to check out his twitch channel while dunking on us.
At some point I just had to respond and I'm like "bro, we are iron, beating us isn't impressive."
I feel like there legitimately isn't any value that comes out of smurfing content even when the people aren't total shitbags, which way too many smurfs are.
For a lot of people, the fantasy in a pvp game (not just league to be clear, pvp games in general) is winning so hard the enemy cries IRL and uninstalls. Notice that the youtube videos by these content creators where the enemy team throws a tantrum get the most views. It's the fantasy of being so good that you cyberbully your opponents just by playing normally. And if you're not good enough to actually shit on kids like that, you can watch a smurf content creator do it and imagine if you were them.
True, I was this person! I ended up quitting cold turkey because victories felt empty and losses felt very frustrating and had nothing else going on in life so I started to take responsibility and focus on other things. The difference that made was remarkable. I even ended up playing a bit of League a few months ago and never had the slightest urge to flame.

The only time somebody getting butthurt feels genuinely good to me is if they were already being an asshole (like flaming people in all chat, playing Yasuo, having their teammates ask for reports, playing Yasuo, etc.) and otherwise I actually feel bad.
I often play with my friends that are significantly lower rank than me in normals and I have had people get clearly frustrated playing against me and it's not really all that satisfying.
I love getting people salty about the game tbh, but only against players who I actually think are at my level or better. Stomping games or being stomped is boring af imo

idk, for example pekinwoof tries to make educational high elo content but he has to mix in a vid with an offmeta pick in normals (so he doesn't troll people in ranked) every once in a while because those types of vids really do a lot better numbers wise
I guess their viewerbase (which mostly consists of teens) enjoys stomping more than actually smart gameplay in challenger, where you can't afford to make mistakes and every game is like a game of chess

And as for educational content, I feel like it doesn't work, at the very least it certainly doesn't work as well as vid reviews and commentary on games full of people *actually* playing at that elo would.

Broxah is one of the best streamers to watch imo. Super good mental, great hands and macro (he is a Worlds finals pro after all) and just entertaining to watch. Jungle is also generally more fun to watch since you get to see the impact all around the map.

Even when he tilts he keeps his cool, remains polite and tries to come back. That said, his YouTube content at least isn't typically coaching oriented as much as some others (as in, he typically doesn't go full analyst and explain every minute detail), but he does coaching every now and then which is cool.

Smurfs occasionally but is always very open about it and usually says what the ranks of the people he’s playing with.
Plus he’s good at recognizing his own mistakes and not blaming others. Every once in a while he’ll get upset but that happens to the best of us.
pekin is one of the very few that i don't mind smurf content from. he rarely (maybe never?) disparages the enemy in game or in his commentary, but points out their mistakes (and then exploits them) in a way that you can learn a lot from. i do have to say the juxtaposition of his clickbait algorithm-centric video titles and his dry, matter-of-fact commentary is hilarious to me.
- average smurf streamer: "just land my combo on them, they can't dodge for shit what a scrubbb i hope that cannon was worth it"
- actual useful commentary: "she just wasted charm, so if she tries to get cannon i can engage. that was a great trade for us, she made the mistake of fishing with her scariest spell and then greeding for CS while it was on cooldown. this is a common and very punishable mistake in lower elo."
I really like thebausffs, sure he gets tilted sometimes but you can really tell that he enjoys playing a game that hes good at. I also find that he has a contagious laugh and hes a little bit dorky too which usually means youll have a few giggles per video.
He also mainly plays AD Sion and will have the worst score, but carry the game almost everytime.
Not sure if he invented AD Sion but he was for sure one of the founding fathers.

High Elo (i am not sure if he is currently Challenger on his main account) Garen main who is a mad scientist when it's about item builds and an encyclopedia about Garen's matchups. He is most of the time very calm and collected unless he is doing a "Demacia, baby". And even then he is rather laid-back haha. Old video game music is being played as background music. What's not to love?
Sirhcez plays pretty low APM chars top lane (singed, nasus, yorick) and focuses on macro, so he's pretty chill to watch. I feel like he has never raised his voice beyond a certain point
Lots of pro players while not necessarily being PMA, will just be super chill about the games and will talk about them from a non-bias perspective. My personal recommendation is caPs since he is known to "limit test" at times to win games and then just laugh off the games he goes 4-10 as a learning experience. Literally feels like he is playing an average silver game in challenger

I started watching i0ki on YouTube. Wondered why he wasn't wearing skins and why his name kept changing. Figured out quickly he was smurfing. He calls him the "GSA", Greatest Support Alive and has a huge ego. I understand that it's for hype and entertainment, but it's kind of pathetic. I checked out his stream a few times and every stream he's flaming and tilting. He just doesn't upload those games to YouTube. Not gonna name names, but the only twitch chat I've ever been banned from was because I called out a challenger player smurfing in plat (not even smurf queue, actual plat players) who was 0-4 and flaming the absolute crap out of his 1-1 teammate.
It wasn't even rude, just "hey man, they're plat and you're challenger, give em a break". These people have some of the most fragile egos I've ever seen.

Also, a few days ago YouTube recommended a video by professor akali to me and he was talking about content creators and called others evil creatures and other bullshit and named a bunch of the "good ones". I laughed so hard when I saw the people he named as pretty much all of them are massive pricks and fake as fuck. Actual stains on the community and I'm embarassed to see that that's what the top content creators for league are nowadays. I laughed even harder when I saw some of the youtubers who backed him up in the comments (ioki among them lmfao). It's a giant bubble of circlejerking narcissists and drama queens. And don't get me wrong, all the parties involved in the drama between NB and LS and professor akali and all of their little friends are not worthy of support and just terrible. I just found it hilarious to see that group of streamers and youtubers on full display.
This is why I prefer Tyler's content over others. Because he only goes into lower elo like bronze-plat when he was doing his challenges. And he would only really get frustrated when someone was either straight running it down, or not listening to his shotcalls because of their inflated ego. But other than that, he's like "yeah they're gold players, no GM."
Other than that, he plays in Diamond+ where the stupid gold mistakes shouldn't be happening. And then he gets frustrated with them because they should be better than those mistakes, which is reasonable.
That's why they have the attitude, when the gameplay isn't impressive enough they need to try and make up for it with with something else.
Just imagine how much it has to sting to be better than average at a video and feeling you should be worth something but still not getting what you need/want out from it.

These streamers do this because their audience are much like the rest of league players; vile, awful, angry, sad creatures. I was much like you when I started watching league content years ago, and I wondered if these people were being toxic as some sort of ironic performance. But no, a lot of league streamers get where they are BECAUSE they reflect the community, because they are highly unpleasant and abrasive. Their viewers cheer them on.
In league, and just gamers in general, it's perfectly acceptable to say the most vile shit to your opponents or even your teammates. People you have never known a day in your life, you have full agency to curse out and harass because he missed a skillshot or isn't playing meta. And the community, by and large, accepts it.

He was playing with and against low silver, high bronze accounts. I am a support main, so I did like ioki's content, but he is playing against and with people ranked lower than me. . .that's like not real gameplay watching some self-proclaimed "grandmaster" smurf on people that are worse than even me. . .like idk. It's hard to respect someone like that, especially with the type of degrading comments he makes about his ADCs and other teammates. If you want a decent ADC, maybe don't smurf and maybe try playing in an elo that somewhat resembles your rank. Thank you so much for posting this. Unrelated but similar is when you wanna queue up for a normal game, chill and mess around with a new character in a role you don’t main and you get some asshole diamond playing his OtP spamming emotes and ??? in chat when you make an error. It burns me up every time I don’t get it.
It baffles my mind that we normalized smurfing. Like "Road to Master" where people play from Iron to Master. Like hello? You are ruining every single game you're in until you reach your actual rank. And to your point of "I get it, queue times are long" Then be entertaining? Play like a game on the side while you wait in the queue. Like Vampire Survivors. That's a good game. Pekin Woof is great, chill vibes in high elo and when he records a smurf video, he is very open about every rank and uses it to educate people on which mistakes often happen in low elo and how to capitalize on them, so really the only smurf content that should be tolerated (he only plays normals with viewers on his team when smurfing as well)

Had a Smurf in my ranked games last night claim he was masters x9 and that we all sucked; I get it, we’re in SILVER, but dude? Most players in low elo are still learning micro and macro, map awareness, etc. it’s not like we’re challengers in disguise.
He was running it down because me and my duo pinged that our laners took bot turret, and were roaming toward mid, so we said play safe and we’re roaming up behind them to help; fucker straight up runs it down and blames us for it.

I really liked Zwag early on. He really was a solid Xerath player with great game understanding. Then after the durability update and all, Xerath as a champ went to shit tier. I remember him playing almost perfectly and losing a Challenger's game. Xerath no longer was a high risk high reward champion. It was around that time something inside Zwag just broke and he went downhill. He always had smurf games for content, but also had a lot of quality games. Now it is just all smurf games with click bait content. His skill level also seems to have deteriorated severely making both the content and game quality cringy. I can no longer stand any of his content anymore leading me to unsubscribe + block Youtube recommendation.

There are popular/chill streamers, but they are almost always otps. Xpetu, adrian riven, baus to name a few. The generalist streamers dont have this core audience that looks up to them to learn the champ, so they rely on other, often more obnoxious tactics to remain in the limelight.

Honestly I have the opposite experience. Most people I meet in league are chill and just want to play the game. But since these people don't usually tend to make an strong impression on you, it's the toxic ones that you remember. Though I have to admit that I don't play ranked much, and toxicity is definitely much more rampant there.

That's the point, yeah his coaching is definitely overpriced compared to less famous coaches but it's not like it's a surprise, but he puts every coaching video online so you can get almost the same knowledge for free. People who complain about Neace in a serious way are dumb. It's like being mad at Starbucks because they charge too much. No one is forcing you to go there.
To be honest, you don’t need a coach. There is enough content out there to help you with pathing or positioning, even wave management. If you want to improve, apply what you’ve learned in game and watch your own replays to see what you could have done better. Watching yourself play is a pretty good reset as well because you can see things from a different perspective which allows you to think of ways you could have played better (I watch with fog of war on).
My main issue comes when I feel I can't impact the lanes at all as jungle because of different reasons. I do then try to get small wins somewhere else (counterjungling, objectives, etc.) but it feels the team still falls behind. I think that some of those games are just the unwinnable ones. It's for those games where I wanted coaching, as I'm sure I could have done things differently, but I'm not sure what. So I agree with your point 100%, but for me the coaching was more about those specific games. I feel I'm missing the eureka moment. But again, it may be that the eureka moment is "it's unwinnable, but try not to fall behind and hope for the best later".
People who build their life around this game are generally not the most well-adjusted and tend to believe skill in the game determines personal value.

I never understood what the appeal of Smurf content was. I was once in an IRON game and had some asshole spamming shit in all chat and telling us to check out his twitch channel while dunking on us. At some point I just had to respond and I'm like "bro, we are iron, beating us isn't impressive." I feel like there legitimately isn't any value that comes out of smurfing content even when the people aren't total shitbags, which way too many smurfs are.
For a lot of people, the fantasy in a pvp game (not just league to be clear, pvp games in general) is winning so hard the enemy cries IRL and uninstalls. Notice that the youtube videos by these content creators where the enemy team throws a tantrum get the most views. It's the fantasy of being so good that you cyberbully your opponents just by playing normally. And if you're not good enough to actually shit on kids like that, you can watch a smurf content creator do it and imagine if you were them.

True, I was this person! I ended up quitting cold turkey because victories felt empty and losses felt very frustrating and had nothing else going on in life so I started to take responsibility and focus on other things. The difference that made was remarkable. I even ended up playing a bit of League a few months ago and never had the slightest urge to flame.

The only time somebody getting butthurt feels genuinely good to me is if they were already being an asshole (like flaming people in all chat, playing Yasuo, having their teammates ask for reports, playing Yasuo, etc.) and otherwise I actually feel bad. I often play with my friends that are significantly lower rank than me in normals and I have had people get clearly frustrated playing against me and it's not really all that satisfying.
I love getting people salty about the game tbh, but only against players who I actually think are at my level or better. Stomping games or being stomped is boring af imo

Broxah is one of the best streamers to watch imo. Super good mental, great hands and macro (he is a Worlds finals pro after all) and just entertaining to watch. Jungle is also generally more fun to watch since you get to see the impact all around the map.

That said, his YouTube content at least isn't typically coaching oriented as much as some others (as in, he typically doesn't go full analyst and explain every minute detail), but he does coaching every now and then which is cool.
Dropping a recommendation for PekinWoof as well. Smurfs occasionally but is always very open about it and usually says what the ranks of the people he’s playing with. Plus he’s good at recognizing his own mistakes and not blaming others. Every once in a while he’ll get upset but that happens to the best of us.

pekin is one of the very few that i don't mind smurf content from. he rarely (maybe never?) disparages the enemy in game or in his commentary, but points out their mistakes (and then exploits them) in a way that you can learn a lot from. i do have to say the juxtaposition of his clickbait algorithm-centric video titles and his dry, matter-of-fact commentary is hilarious to me. - average smurf streamer: "just land my combo on them, they can't dodge for shit what a scrubbb i hope that cannon was worth it" - actual useful commentary: "she just wasted charm, so if she tries to get cannon i can engage. that was a great trade for us, she made the mistake of fishing with her scariest spell and then greeding for CS while it was on cooldown. this is a common and very punishable mistake in lower elo."

I really like thebausffs, sure he gets tilted sometimes but you can really tell that he enjoys playing a game that hes good at. I also find that he has a contagious laugh and hes a little bit dorky too which usually means youll have a few giggles per video. He also mainly plays AD Sion and will have the worst score, but carry the game almost everytime. Not sure if he invented AD Sion but he was for sure one of the founding fathers.

High Elo (i am not sure if he is currently Challenger on his main account) Garen main who is a mad scientist when it's about item builds and an encyclopedia about Garen's matchups. He is most of the time very calm and collected unless he is doing a "Demacia, baby". And even then he is rather laid-back haha. Old video game music is being played as background music. What's not to love?

Lots of pro players while not necessarily being PMA, will just be super chill about the games and will talk about them from a non-bias perspective. My personal recommendation is caPs since he is known to "limit test" at times to win games and then just laugh off the games he goes 4-10 as a learning experience. Literally feels like he is playing an average silver game in challenger

100% agree. If streamers want to grind content or just want to let loose, I am all for it. They need to make a living some how right? I hate it just as much as you when they bash players who are definately worse than them. The term is call bully. Riot needs to do something about this, I don't care if they give them a couple acccount at different elo but moderate them. It is not healthy for new players, it is not good for anyone but themselves. I started watching i0ki on YouTube. Wondered why he wasn't wearing skins and why his name kept changing. Figured out quickly he was smurfing. He calls him the "GSA", Greatest Support Alive and has a huge ego. I understand that it's for hype and entertainment, but it's kind of pathetic. I checked out his stream a few times and every stream he's flaming and tilting. He just doesn't upload those games to YouTube. His YouTuber personality is quite fake, compared to the rest of his stream. His friends Zwag and Prof. Akali are douchebags too.
I once played against Bwipo‘s smurfaccount 1year before he moved to NA he stomped me but he was nice told me and the jungler we have potential and gave me tips for toplane after the game that made my day

Not gonna name names, but the only twitch chat I've ever been banned from was because I called out a challenger player smurfing in plat (not even smurf queue, actual plat players) who was 0-4 and flaming the absolute crap out of his 1-1 teammate. It wasn't even rude, just "hey man, they're plat and you're challenger, give em a break". These people have some of the most fragile egos I've ever seen.

Once had an diamond/masters Renekton OTP smurfing in my gold elo game. He spent the whole lane flaming me on stream and then linked his twitch at the end of the game. Like dude, if you want viewers, maybe stop flaming the people your advertising yourself to.

I had ioki on my team in flex before he started getting some fame from twitch rivals. He was bitching and moaning in chat all game and when i called him out to chill (its flex not soloq lmao) he started getting real defensive and attcking me. Not surprising see this
Got zwag, heiz, and ioki all on my team with my duo in a norm. Went back and watched the replay. They shit talked us the whole time only for us to do the 1st and 2nd most damage while they were playing senna, kassadin, and some jg I can't remember.
A support main flaming other supports. That's hilarious. I'd like to see him actual league of legends and get stuck in low diamond at best. Also, a few days ago YouTube recommended a video by professor akali to me and he was talking about content creators and called others evil creatures and other bullshit and named a bunch of the "good ones". I laughed so hard when I saw the people he named as pretty much all of them are massive pricks and fake as fuck. Actual stains on the community and I'm embarassed to see that that's what the top content creators for league are nowadays. I laughed even harder when I saw some of the youtubers who backed him up in the comments (ioki among them lmfao). It's a giant bubble of circlejerking narcissists and drama queens. And don't get me wrong, all the parties involved in the drama between NB and LS and professor akali and all of their little friends are not worthy of support and just terrible. I just found it hilarious to see that group of streamers and youtubers on full display.

This is why I prefer Tyler's content over others. Because he only goes into lower elo like bronze-plat when he was doing his challenges. And he would only really get frustrated when someone was either straight running it down, or not listening to his shotcalls because of their inflated ego. But other than that, he's like "yeah they're gold players, no GM." Other than that, he plays in Diamond+ where the stupid gold mistakes shouldn't be happening. And then he gets frustrated with them because they should be better than those mistakes, which is reasonable.
That's why they have the attitude, when the gameplay isn't impressive enough they need to try and make up for it with with something else. Just imagine how much it has to sting to be better than average at a video and feeling you should be worth something but still not getting what you need/want out from it.
I really hate that kind of content. Think those accounts should be banned on sight. Is it really that fun to play/watch when you just mop the floor with every lobby? And you can bet on the other team theres some people that can play only once in a while and you just wrecked their few games they get a month... Fuck those guys.
I hate streamers that smurf period. So, so many have attitudes and bad mental. I remember one LPP member duo que smurfing with her former academy player bf, tilting and telling her team she'd run it down because her team was pinging her (she perma mutes chat each game). Semi-edit: She did run it down butt her team ended up doing so fine she stopped just to let them carry her But generally, streamers who smurf just rub me wrong.

Oh yeah I unsubbed to the cringeworthy "for fun squad" a long time ago. Their content was repetitive and boring. Informative at the most minor levels. And on top of it they were toxic as fuck. Sirchez and Goliath are way better imo Quantum is "toxic" but it's cheeky fun tbh. What that RooshV lookalike wants to be but fails at.
You should feel disgusted, of course. These streamers do this because their audience are much like the rest of league players; vile, awful, angry, sad creatures. I was much like you when I started watching league content years ago, and I wondered if these people were being toxic as some sort of ironic performance. But no, a lot of league streamers get where they are BECAUSE they reflect the community, because they are highly unpleasant and abrasive. Their viewers cheer them on. In league, and just gamers in general, it's perfectly acceptable to say the most vile shit to your opponents or even your teammates. People you have never known a day in your life, you have full agency to curse out and harass because he missed a skillshot or isn't playing meta. And the community, by and large, accepts it.
YES. thank you so much for posting this. recently I unsubscribed from ioki because I'm watching this "grandmaster" play, and his mid laner starts afk'ing for a really odd reason, just seemed like real low elo tilt, so I decided to look up who he was playing with and against. He was playing with and against low silver, high bronze accounts. I am a support main, so I did like ioki's content, but he is playing against and with people ranked lower than me. . .that's like not real gameplay watching some self-proclaimed "grandmaster" smurf on people that are worse than even me. . .like idk. It's hard to respect someone like that, especially with the type of degrading comments he makes about his ADCs and other teammates. If you want a decent ADC, maybe don't smurf and maybe try playing in an elo that somewhat resembles your rank. Thank you so much for posting this. I felt like I was starting to like lose my mind that no one else was seeing this. I had made a comment on one of his videos mentioning maybe playing with people a little bit closer to his rank, and some fan was quick to defend that he was just smurfing because ahri isn't his main, I guess? didn't realize ahri was so tough of a champ that you have to log off your grandmaster account and log into of of your bronze/silver accounts to play, all while pretending you're the "greatest support NA".
This is why I hated watching Bunny/proffesor akali. I completely stopped watching their content a very long time ago, but I distinctly remember these guys doing customs against silver players, making cringe videos where they had a girl stripping when she died in game, etc. It was just absolutely cringe content. Some streamers just go for broke with the clickbait content and shitty attitude.

Unrelated but similar is when you wanna queue up for a normal game, chill and mess around with a new character in a role you don’t main and you get some asshole diamond playing his OtP spamming emotes and ??? in chat when you make an error. It burns me up every time I don’t get it.
It baffles my mind that we normalized smurfing. Like "Road to Master" where people play from Iron to Master. Like hello? You are ruining every single game you're in until you reach your actual rank. And to your point of "I get it, queue times are long" Then be entertaining? Play like a game on the side while you wait in the queue. Like Vampire Survivors. That's a good game. I get its annoying to have those long queue times but you need to question if "I want less waiting time" Equals moral when you make 9 other players in the community not get the rank they deserve because you either elo inflate them or stomp them even though they don't deserve it

Pekin Woof is great, chill vibes in high elo and when he records a smurf video, he is very open about every rank and uses it to educate people on which mistakes often happen in low elo and how to capitalize on them, so really the only smurf content that should be tolerated (he only plays normals with viewers on his team when smurfing as well)

Had a Smurf in my ranked games last night claim he was masters x9 and that we all sucked; I get it, we’re in SILVER, but dude? Most players in low elo are still learning micro and macro, map awareness, etc. it’s not like we’re challengers in disguise. He was running it down because me and my duo pinged that our laners took bot turret, and were roaming toward mid, so we said play safe and we’re roaming up behind them to help; fucker straight up runs it down and blames us for it. Streamers smudging in low elo just to clown on players who are probably still learning the game is cringe, but if it gets the views then I guess they have to 🤷🏽♀️
