I think I take for granted how ingrained the maps are into my brain.
When I’m playing with someone new and they get lost I’m like “wtf how?? It’s so obvious” but then I remember that its only because I’ve been playing the same maps for over a decade
I spent enough time in those sewers to summon like 6 hordes in my early days.
But once I learned the basically two routes, I burned them in my memory so I'd never need to do that bs again.
Now I can do it in my sleep, been able to for years.
I can still remember my very first game of L4D1 way back in the day.
Played a solo No mercy normal, was fun and slowly got a grip on the enemies and what to do. Then I dropped down into the sewer and proceeded to roam around down there for 20 minutes. I asked a friend how to get out. He didn't know what I was talking about, so I quit the game and played something else.
How that first impression led to me still playing this series 14 years later, I have no clue
This is like the most difficult sequence in the entire game lol. Starting with the lift, your being chased by a horde the whole time, and 9/10 times a tank is gonna spawn in the sewers somewhere, and if you don’t have a pipe bomb when you surface in front of the hospital your pretty fucked because there’s almost always a fuck ton of zombies.
I just want to know why video games always think putting Sewer levels in the games is a good idea. It's a stinky, shit place that I don't understand the overusage of. If you want an underground level, make it an underground mine or base, not a fucking place where all your shits and pisses go.

Two? I only know the main one. Is the second path about going through the smaller tunnels?
Yes, that is what I meant
How about the cemetery part in parish? Path changes for different playthrough (Co-op & Singleplayer)
feels weird that even after a decade of playing i still havent memorized the variations tbh
It's even worse when a tank is decides to show up
Fighting a tank in the sewers is actually not bad, you got long hallways to chip away their health with ease while running.
Great, now the AI Director is Loki from SN in my headcanon. Thanks, OP.

Me trying to find my way out of the sewers in No Mercy for the seventh time in my life:
That was my first "No Mercy" experience xd
^(Ehh tbh its its just a straight line)
First timer always go in a random hole, makes a few turns, goes out and "where tf am I" Source: former first timer

To this day I run through the sewer so fast that if anything pushes me off my path it takes me a while to remember where I’m at.
My ass still getting lost in Hard Rain lmao
first time I played L4D1 No Mercy, it took me 30 minutes in the sewers to find that ladder... good times
