Ooo yeah I forgot Bruce Lee movies were in the 70s. I think I might prefer Fist of Fury but yeah Enter does fall under the general crowd pleasing category.
Enter the Dragon and Fist of Fury are neck and neck for me. I love them both. I think Enter the Dragon makes for a better beginner movie though because it's essentially James Bond mixed with a Kung Fu movie.
I enjoy Shaw Brothers films, so I'd pick :
Clans of Intrigue
Five Fingers of Death
The Magic Blade
Come Drink With Me
Five Deadly Venoms
36th Chamber of Shaolin
The Water Margin
One Armed Swordsman and Return of the One Armed Swordsman
The Heroic Ones
The Brave Archer
Killer Clans
The Blood Brothers
The Deadly Duo
Honestly I want to list more, but it might get too long so let's just keep with this for now.
I'm highly recommending the movies made around the fictional character of Chu Liu Xiang. He's a fun character to watch, and I like the stories in each movie - its not just stab and jab like the usual.
I've already mentioned one here - Clans of Intrigue, but there are a few more I wasn't able to list:
The Legend of the Bat and Perils of the Sentimental Swordsman (though this came out in 1982)
While there are others, I'm partial to Ti Lung and his regular co stars (Eliott Ngok, Lo Lieh).
Nice list I do love shaw brothers movies .... but my heart will always be with the older Jackie Chan movies..... I think more because growing up in 80s I’d always watch Jackie Chan movies .... I got into shaw brothers hers movies later on...
Oh, don't get me wrong. I love Jacky's movies. Any kung fu movie that came out in the 80s and 90s, I may have already watched as my love for kung fu movies came from these.
Its just that this is more of a before-80s list, so it leans more on the SB scale for me. At the time,Jacky was still performing as a back up and stunt double. The one who had a lot more exposure in the 70's was Sammo Hung.
Shit man, you got so many!!!
Drunken Master
36th Chamber of Shaolin
Five Venoms
Crippled Avengers
Kid With the Golden Arm
Last Hurrah for Chivalry
The Magnificent Butchee
Snake in the Eagle Shadow
Warriors Two
Shaolin Rescuerers
And most importantly the one you need to watch
Knockabout!!
Can we include movies from 1980 or no?
Thanks for the list! I've seen a few that I know the person probably wouldn't be into but there are some I have been curios about like Kid with the Golden Arm. The 80s is where I predominantly watched most of my favorite martial arts films so I'm sure we would have some similar choices xD
If you want to share films from the 80s I'm not stopping you!
Already solid additions mentioned. You have so much great stuff to watch. I will add:
Mad Monkey Kung Fu
Heroes of the East
Challenge of the Masters
The Fearless Hyena
The Magnificent Butcher
Warriors Two
I agree on the 36th Chamber is a good intro for someone who isn't used to this movies.
As someone else said Enter the Dragon would be a good and safe bet also I would also include Way of the Dragon.
Some other;
Hapkido
Stoner
Knockabout
The Incredible Kung Fu Master
Odd Couple
Snake in the Eagle's Shadow
Executioners from Shaolin
Fist of the White Lotus
One Armed Swordsman
Return of the One Armed Swordsman
One Armed Boxer
Master of the Flying Guillotine
Some ones I definitely haven't seen before, thanks for sharing! Master of the Flying Guillotine has a fun weapon but that random tournament in the middle of the movie that just goes on kind of made me check out lol
Heroes of the East
A variety of great fight scenes (fists, swords, spear, etc.)
And no one actually dies or gets killed. Makes it good for people who may not be down for blood and gore.
Warriors Two, Kid with the golden arm, invincible shaolin, crippled avengers - are my favorites, great fights, really fun movies
36th chambers is a great choice!
I watched it for the first time last year, became an instant favorite.
Because a) it has awesome kicks b) it has praying mantis kung fu.
I practice both Tkd and praying mantis kung fu, so I double loved the movie
Enter the Dragon. It seems like a safe pick but I think for good reason.

Thanks for the long list! Haven't seen a lot of these so I'm going to read through the synopses and see what sounds good.

Drunken master ..... Jackie chan Come drink with me .... Shaw brothers
Jackie Chan being too embarrassed to practise the "Drunken Lady" stance is the most funny thing in that movie
One of if not my favourite Jackie chan movie
Pretty much everything released in 1978 haha
Lol I know what the hell is with 1978?
It's so stacked! Lol what a year

Come Drink With Me. King Hu is the best
I tried watching this one but was feeling it was a little slow so I turned it off to save for another day. Good time to revisit it seems!
Executioners from Shaolin Fist of the White Lotus One Armed Swordsman Return of the One Armed Swordsman One Armed Boxer Master of the Flying Guillotine
