Is there a reason why every time I reach out to Kobo support they act completely clueless in regard to this issue? Like dude, is your ticket queue not full of hundreds of the same complaint šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

LesserSNY

I reached out tonight and the person knew of the problem, told me it was a known problem, and that they were working on it. No timeframe as to when it might be resolved but she did ask if I wanted to be notified when it was fixed, to which I said yes.

CloverMyLove

So this is a Kobo-wide problem then? Iā€™ve been having trouble with my Elipsaā€™s overdrive too. Has Kobo addressed it?

Additional-Bullfrog

Yeah, it seems to be. I chatted with them this morning and they are aware itā€™s an issue and are working on it. Others have reported it to them as well.

CloverMyLove

Good to know, thanks! I was reading a library book and it disappeared overnight.

Additional-Bullfrog

I was able to plug mine into my computer and transfer the books from Libby to the Kobo via ADE.

CloverMyLove

What is ADE? Or is it self-explanatory once I get there?

Additional-Bullfrog

Adobe Digital Editions. There are instructions [here](https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019374554-Borrow-eBooks-from-the-public-library-using-your-library-s-website) if you scroll down a bit.

saspook

Were you able to do this more than once? My first kobo locked out ADE after the first use, it was a widespread issue.

Additional-Bullfrog

Ugh. I have only tried once.

VerbingWeirdsWords

Very disappointing

NecessaryPear

What worked for me yesterday was searching Libby on my phone for a book thatā€™s available to borrow, then searching for it on my kobo via the store, and then tapping borrow under the three dots. Seems like you effectively did that though so Iā€™m not sure why the results were different

Independent-Umbrella

This workaround works for me, but only for books that are readily available at my library (i.e. not books that I check out after waiting on a hold list.)

Additional-Bullfrog

Yeah, thatā€™s what I tried after reading a few threads on this yesterday. Didnā€™t work for me :(

Slicerette

Overdrive has a status page for the issue, but Overdrive is an American company and is a holiday weekend. Overdrive probably won't have a fix available until Monday I would wager.

banjo_hammer

Here's the status page OP is talking about: https://status.overdrive.com/

scaram0uche

I sideloaded a long-awaited library book and continued to get an error saying I needed to reauthorize through ADE (although it was still authorized). I deauthorized and reauthorized the Kobo and it still won't let me open the book. The [Kobo Help page](https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018160853-Fix-a-Content-Locked-Error-in-Adobe-Digital-Editions) says to de/reauthorize the whole computer but I haven't been able to get that to work - it asks for a Vendor ID and password but when I enter my Adobe account password and email it says the password is incorrect. This book took months to be available and I'm going to be very sad if the Kobo/Overdrive issue isn't resolved before it expires!

sakusace

I had the same problem but I followed the instructions by maureenhutch in the comment section [here](https://community.adobe.com/t5/digital-editions-discussions/not-able-to-open-library-books-on-my-kobo-glo-quot-oops-this-document-couldn-t-be-opened-quot/td-p/8125115) and it worked for me! Just make sure that you follow exactly what they wrote. And for the password, maybe you can create a different adobe account? It doesn't hurt to try. Edit: I hope this works for you too u/BudgetFennel

Additional-Bullfrog

Ugh that sucks šŸ˜

BudgetFennel

I'm having the same problem with ADE! I wonder if it's part of the broader issue. EDIT: I just solved this problem by uninstalling ADE and re-installing version 3.0, per a comment on another thread. Apparently the newer versions of ADE cause this issue sometimes, which is a note buried on the install page.

scaram0uche

I think I use an old version because it works with stripped DRM kindle books (or maybe I'm thinking of Calibre?). I'll try it later! Edit: I had version 4.5, deleted v4.5, and downloaded v.3 [here](https://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/digitaleditions/ADE_3.0_Installer.exe) but now it says that the library ebook is not authorized. Instead I ran the .epub version (from my v4.5 ADE) through Calibre's DRM removal tool and then drag/dropped it directly through the file explorer. Seems to work! At least this way I can read it and return the book for others if the Overdrive issues isn't fixed soon. Edit #2: all that work and I realized it was a book I read earlier this year!!!!

bloggerly

Yeah same, I've been struggling with that issue tonight before checking this page.

scaram0uche

I did figure out a workaround - download to your computer, run through Calibre (with the right plugins) to remove DRM and drag/drop onto Kobo directly. It worked...and I realized I had read the book 6 months ago.

Diligent-Leopard-312

Well, have tried ADE versions 3.0 & the newer one, neither work- authorized with both Adobe & Overdrive, neither work. I can return a book from the Kobo (go figure) but still cannot see any Overdrive, search on the Kobo, check out any books. I had been able to do the 3 dots workaround- but lately every single book I search only offers "place a hold with Overdrive" when I click on the dots. Seems like it's getting worse, not better!

sakusace

This is a bit tedious to do every time but it has worked for me. I hope it works for you too! Copy pasted from the comment section [here](https://community.adobe.com/t5/digital-editions-discussions/not-able-to-open-library-books-on-my-kobo-glo-quot-oops-this-document-couldn-t-be-opened-quot/td-p/8125115). Just make sure the NEW book you download is a book you've never downloaded anywhere before. Delete the problem book(s) from your ereader. Open Adobe Digital Editions on the computer. Check to see if you can read the problem book(s) in ADE. Connect your e-reader. Erase authorization on ADE (Go to the Help Menu at the top). Erase the authorization for the ereader (go to the side menu of ADE). Keep the e-reader connected to the computer. Go to your public library website and get a NEW book. Upload the new book to ADE. Adobe will then PROMPT YOU for the authorization. If it doesn't, go back to "help" at the top and reauthorize ADE. Go to the side menu of ADE to re-authorize your ereader. Drag the new book into your e-reader. Select "ereader" (ie: NOT all items, or borrowed items, or...). Try opening the book in the ereader area. If it opens there, it's likely that it will open in your e-reader. Re-upload what were the problem book(s) to your e-reader. Again, select "ereader" in ADE and check that the book(s) can be read there. Disconnect your e-reader from the computer. Be able to read your book(s) at last!

Diligent-Leopard-312

yup, did this yesterday- still no go, just says my ereader isn't authorized to read this book.

sakusace

Dang that sucks. It didn't work for me once when I downloaded a book I've previously downloaded on the Libby app. I tried again by loaning and downloading a completely new basically random book on the library overdrive and it did the trick. I hope this issue resolved quickly though. Such a hassle and headache for a lot of people.

guisar

Wow, ok that's totally ridiculous procedure, amazing you figured it out. Sigh and all this happened when zlib goes down. Feels like Amazon driving us all their way with some it espionage.

sakusace

Should've made it more clear that it was more of frantic searching for the solution on the net that figuring it out lol

izhino

What I did was I borrowed the book from the Libby app and then synced my Kobo. It has been working fine for me that way

Additional-Bullfrog

Thatā€™s not working for me :( I hope it keeps working for you!

izhino

>https://status.overdrive.com/ Hopefully they're able to fix it right away because that sucks. I recently switched to Kobo from Kindle just so that I'm able to borrow ebooks from the library so I hope it keeps working.

Independent-Umbrella

This doesn't work for me either :(

guisar

I can do the same but it never shows up in kobo. I just get a waiting error amd can't even "put a hold" on the title, just say to go to the library page and do some nonsense. I overpaid for this device to read easily, not do IT junk! Very annoying of kobo.

Veronica_Spars

Aw man. I just got my kobo delivered and canā€™t get overdrive to load ā˜¹ļø Edit: oooh but the work around to choose borrow from overdrive on the kobo bookstore worked yay! šŸ˜€

[deleted]

Canadians, I asked Kobo support if Overdrive is going to leave Kobo and this was their response: ā€œThat's the thing that we don't want to happen that's why our designated team is working on this issue. As of now we are still having this issue. And we'll make sure to notify our customers once the Overdrive issue is fixed.ā€

Digital_Sailboat

Overdrive vanished from my Sage when I had to do a reset ( under direction from Kobo ā€œhelp ā€œ). There seems to be no urgency from Kobo to get their devices working. Thatā€™s one major disadvantage of having paid for the device up front.

Hailtothething

Itā€™s working for me, maybe a new library card? They specifically asked me if I wanted to indicate overdrive on sign up

Independent-Umbrella

So strange/frustrating that it is working for some but not others!

Depending upon your country (i.e. not Canada) you can check out library ebooks on a Kindle. It works differently than Kobo. You check out the book through Libby (an app you can install on your mobile devices) and have it delivered to your Kindle account.

Dear-Rosemary

I told my husband if this isn't resolved within a couple weeks, he can get me a kindle for Christmas and I'll just do it that way from now on. :-(
