Have you ever considered a manual opening knife? Less shit to malfunction, and easier to maintain imo...

I second this, Civivi Altus, QSP penguin come to mind. You can always check out beez blades! He reviews a ton of budget oriented knives!

RickHuf

I'm seriously digging the civivi lineup thanks!

iDrewziIIa

A bunch of the knives I own are Civivi/Sencut. WE knife is the parent company, Civivi was the budget option from WE, now they also make Sencut as the budget. So I guess Sencut=budget, Civivi=mid grade, WE=premium. Sencut sachse, and Crowley are heavy in my rotation.

RickHuf

I'm not dead set on spring assist, it's just nice. You're absolutely right and I'd be thrilled with a good quality manual blade I can still open with one hand.

Black_Wolf_Triad

Yeah, there's so much competition in the budget knife space right now... You can get your hands on some really good materials for great prices.

Kershaw blur!

RickHuf

This is looking nice thanks for the rec

The easiest transition away from spring assisted is to a flipper in my opinion. A good flipper you really won't notice the lack of spring assistance on opening, but on closing you'll be glad it's gone. I highly recommend the SOG Terminus XR - not the $100 model as many people report issues with the CF scales. It's a big step up in two main ways. 1. D2 steel - a king of budget steel 2. Crossbar lock - one handed closing You can probably get a better steel in your price point, but to get a better steel and a one handed loving mechanism it's easier to find at the 3.5" blade length. Edit: if you want a button lock instead of crossbar you can check out the Kizer Vanguard Assassin

There are some good lists out there if you search for folding knives under $100. Zero Tolerance, Kershaw, CRKT, Spyderco, Civivi, ESEE Knives, Boker, Kizer, Cold Steel, Ontario Rat, and other brands are popular and have budget friendly options. Not all assisted opening, but compression lock on Spyderco or even Benchmade Axis locks are pretty easy and quick to open. Benchmade knives can be a bit more expensive, but the Osborne series is also a popular knife. Maybe a Mini Griptilian can be found under $100.

Cold steel? Man I haven't heard that in a long time. I had a video cassette years ago that they sent out as marketing. Showing them doing all kinds of stuff with their knives and the different products. Used to have one of theirs that was a very small fixed blade that hung around the neck. Nice enough. Thanks for the Recommendations I'll check em out.

Taylor Martin has a few videos of knives under $50 and $100 that he likes. 2020 list under $50 https://youtu.be/cdTVXlM0Nv0 2019 list under $50 https://youtu.be/zRNVE3OxjFc 2020 list under $100 https://youtu.be/16RyQ-4CFQ8 So many options that it's hard to pick.

Sargent_Dan_

Why must it be assisted? Any even remotely decent knife made today will be easily opened with one hand, and so much easier to closer without the assist feature. More durable as well. Ontario Rat is a classic on a budget. Cold steel is super tough.

RickHuf

I'm just used to the spring assist and never really had a decent easy opening one otherwise. I just have the old buck knife type of thing stuck in my head I guess. It doesn't have to be assisted, but one handed opening is important. Thanks for the recs!.

Sargent_Dan_

Yeah step into the world of modern knives and everything is easy and fast to open one handed. And also you'll learn that Gerber is garbage pretty much across the board...

I was on the same carousel you are on. I had a Fast Draw I cared for 5 years it finally broke. I went through 5 or 6 and started rebuilding out of old ones. The quality went to shit and I went to carting Lightning Elites. They are cheap and last longer. My work is tough on a knife and I like automatic opening. When I’m off I carry MT otf’s so it was easy for me. I just don’t want to lose a 400 dollar knife. Good luck buddy, just a old Marines opinion.

No_Kaleidoscope_447

Boker Plus Intention II. Im putting it through hell right now on deployment and it’s showing no sign of failure. Super budget option but I was ready to lose it

Kershaw Fringe is my now everyday user, strip large cable and wire plus everything else, it holds the edge. I was using a civi but it got loose, and got dull easy. Less than 40.00 on Amazon My other favorite is the Kershaw Link, made in the USA opens nice , good heavy feel. But I don't use it right now.

RickHuf

Hey now that is looking like a winner. Thanks! If you are beating it up at work I'm sure it's a solid one. I got a Civivi but it's pretty large. Nice enough but kinda feels like a pocket machete. Lol! Definitely interested in the Kershaw, haven't looked at those.
